While I didn't realize this at the time, turns out I was actually well equipped with the tools to fight this case on my own- I just needed a little coaching in regards to the legal system and as cheesy as it sounds, simply needed to hear that someone believed me. My story was one that I am sure countless women can relate to- I was facing an opponent whom had been emotionally/ mentally abusive to the point where I was suffering from rather severe PTSD, which strongly impacted my ability to accurately explain the nightmare I was dealing with. On top of this, I felt pretty powerless and completely failed by a system that I always had been told would protect me.
