I showed him a picture of what i wanted, specifically asking if it was possible with my current hair length and type. He said yes and then just gave me a bowl cut which only lasted about two minutes. After that he backpedaled and called another employee to help explain that i dont have the right length or hair type for the desired style in the photo... even though I specifically asked before he started cutting??? I now look like a three year old and my week is ruined. First time i trust a barber and this is what i get. No hate to the employees who seemed nice enough, I just seriously believe they did not know what they were doing. As a cosmetologist myself, I'm very particular about who I let do my hair and picky on issues like shop organization and cleanliness. Flipper's has good style, great cuts, even better prices, and good and non-forced conversation with Johnny and rest of staff. Loved the little fur baby shop dog the most too! I asked for a highly textured faux hawk/mullet style (Mullhawk) with a sunburst style skin fade and Johnny exceeded expectations and really gave extra care into learning what I was after in my style before he even started. But it doesn't end there. , turns out I didn't have cash or my debit card with me, only a credit card (that's all I ever carry). I pulled out my phone to call my wife, hoping to catch her before she left work. Home is over an hour round trip from the shop. Kev stopped me and told me to just come back the next day. Now remember, I was a first time customer, Kev had no idea who I was or anything about me, but he offered to let me come back the next day to settle the bill. I came back the following morning and left him a rather hefty tip, which he earned every single cent of by being professional, friendly and understanding of an embarrassing situation. I grew up in Clifton Park and my Grandfather went to this shop, and now my Dad, and I have too, basically for as long as I can remember. The original barbers from my youth have retired but I believe one of their kids bought the place and is running it now. The shop used to be across the parking lot before they renovated the strip mall, but its the same shop and some of the guys are connected to the last generation of barbers. They even have the same furniture, waiting chairs, barber chairs (though without the ash trays), and I think a few other things. I got my hair cut here right before my brother's wedding some years ago and they made me look the best I've looked since high school (which is about when I left Clifton Park). You do not have to believe me, they always have someone sitting in each of their chairs, all the barbers are great BTW. First time I was in this place after the next generation took over I believe I had my hair cut by the owner. Don't quote me on it but I think he's Joe's son, if I got that wrong I'll revise this review. Last time (just this Christmas) it was Jordan. Anyway, everyone is great. Jordan could cut from my written notes, and asked me at the end if I wanted the fade to start higher up. I asked my wife and we agreed that was what we wanted and he moved it up. Either way looked great but moving it up was just what I needed. I think he asked because my hair is starting to get light up their () but it was a great move to ask me for feedback on the cut at an abstract level, so I could just guide the process while he does the real work. If I lived here I know these guys would remember anyway. They know my Dad's haircut because he does come here regularly. This is the kind of barber shop they are. A week before my wedding, he disappeared completely. Gregory's was opening the week after I left my job upstairs. I had watched the place being set up for weeks, and always meant to visit to check the place out. I needed a quality cut, but time was short with all the running around with family just before the wedding. I decided to take a short trip to Delmar and see what Gregory's would offer. Gregory's is a true barber shop. The place is clean, professional and caters to the needs of the men who visit. There is no choking on chemical fumes while someone is getting their hair permed, and no staring at empty walls while you wait for service. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and greats you warmly every time. Most of all, Gregory's offers the best hair cuts I have ever had. Each member of the team takes their time to give the best cut possible. I have visited regularly for six years and have never walked away unsatisfied. Straight razor finish to each haircut is a great touch, makes you wonder how a haircut ever felt complete before. I am terrible at planning my time in advance so I am rarely able to take advantage of advance appointments, but the staff is always honest about the expected wait time and does their best to get to their customers as swiftly as possible. There are a few televisions and magazines that are generally worth reading to pass the few moments wait, so it has never been an issue. The few times I have been able to schedule in advance have always been extra pleasant, I highly recommend it if you're better at planning than I am. They now have locations in Clifton Park and a few location opening in Guilderland, so if you have not had the best barber experience. Parents coming in with young children were greeted immediately and made to feel welcome. I have had many haircuts in the Clifton Park / Saratoga area, however, when I met Anthony about ten years ago, I knew I found a gem! Anthony is a great barber; hands down, one of the best in the area. If you're in need of a cut, and near the Clifton Park area, drop by to see Anthony and his crew, you won't be disappointed.
