We were able to get up close and personal to the airport and see and hear the planes take off right over our heads-very cool! We did ask for a map twice after reading that there are twenty miles of bike paths and they explained that the "bike paths" are sidewalks throughout the island. While that may be the case, it would have been nice to have a paper guide or app to show us the different options. You could ride on the beach, in parks through neighborhoods, etc. but it would have been nice to have an idea of which way to go depending on what we wanted to see. Overall, I highly recommend biking as a beautiful way to see the island!

On a weekend or holiday, definitely get there early or they will run out of bikes! Note that if you ride on the beach, bike must be THOROUGHLY cleaned upon return or you will incur a fee. Rental included a helmet and bike lock. We cleaned our helmets and bike handles with rubbing alcohol, and all was good. Bikes functioned well, and we did 10 miles before dark. Stopped for dinner, locked up the bikes, ate, and rode home. Made for a great day! If you didn't/couldn't bring your own bike, riding around Jekyll is worth the money. I first rode the full island perimeter with friends in the late 80s, and I never forgot it! I was 8yo and did a 20-mi ride (I was so proud of myself), and the experience captured my heart. Do it! Get some exercise and bike the island up close and personal! Make sure to hit the trails on the interior of the southern part of the island! One mile biked is equivalent to about about 400-440 steps in terms of exercise, but walking the whole island takes forever. Bike it to scope things out, and then go walk your favorite parts later.

Many of them are dog friendly but be sure to check. During peak season it can get $$$ Driftwood beach and the pier are two of my favorite places on the island. The ruins are also a neat place to hike. I have posted separate reviews for all the places I've really enjoyed in the island. The food on the island is a mix of delicious and let downs. Be sure to check out some of the restaurants that are not right in the town village part. The locals tend to avoid them and after my last couple of visits I will too. Rented 2 six seater carts at the end of June 2026 for 4 days. I was told they would be deliverd…read morebetween 2 and 4. One arrived at 6PM and the other at 8PM. One was dirty and the other one was perfect. The dirty cart only had seat belts in the front seat. Without seat belts in the other 2 seats, we couldn't use the cart safetly. We also discovered that the cart without seat belts had non working headlights. I spoke to a local police officer and he said that legally the cart rental company can rent anything they want, even if it's not safe. The responsibility for having safety features is totally on the driver. So, Kustom Karts can rent all the junk they want :), which is clearly exactly what they do! The cart was too dangerous to use so we made the best of it and just used the safe one. I asked the owner to refund some of the money we spent to rent the dangerous cart and she refused. We frequent St. Simon's for family vacations so next time we will rent from someone else. If you rent from Kustom Karts, be aware that they will stress all of the safety rules to you when you reserve the carts, but they clearly don't follow through by renting safe carts across the board. Too many other companys to rent from so we will scratch this one from our list of preferred places to spend our money.

I am not a rider so I stayed behind but they said they had fun. My youngest daughter's horse was hungry on the way back and kept stopping to eat (I thought it was funny, she did not) but it was dinner time. From the time I took my first picture of them riding out u til they came back was only about 45mins so if you are being dropped off or have someone waiting be aware it might not be a whole hour. Everyone was super nice and the horses were so gentle, and relaxed. The girls said it was beautiful out on driftwood beach and I'm glad they got to experience that.

I booked this originally for the 4:30 ride on Valentine's weekend but it got rained out so I…read morerescheduled for 3/13/21. We arrived early just to make sure we didn't have to rush and weren't late. The tour was set for sunset but was running late so sunset was basically over by the time we got the the beach and we had to ride back in the dark. We had also signed up for the photo package and when we got back we're told the camera died and no photos were gotten. The ride was beautiful otherwise, but I felt cheated having to ride back in the dark and couldn't see anything. My horse was good too, listened well, kept out of the bushes. Her name was spirit. My husband wrote booker and his horse ran him into every tree and bush it could find. If you do this, book a private ride. It's more expensive, but probably a much better experience. Also, note they don't follow any COVID protocol. No masks, and they cram everyone in the shack to watch the video regardless of how big the group is.
