What a beautiful piece of Earth. Nature is king here. The beachfront and walking/hiking/biking is phenomenal around the entire island. There is a double wide sidewalk that goes a long way down the coast and it provides excellent views and places to hike or bike Plenty of hotel options to stay at. Many of them are dog friendly but be sure to check. During peak season it can get $$$ Driftwood beach and the pier are two of my favorite places on the island. The ruins are also a neat place to hike. I have posted separate reviews for all the places I've really enjoyed in the island. The food on the island is a mix of delicious and let downs. Be sure to check out some of the restaurants that are not right in the town village part. The locals tend to avoid them and after my last couple of visits I will too. There are a lot of repeating flavor profiles on the island of seafood obviously Overall this place is pretty amazing and worth checking out. read more

Highly recommended. Coastal Georgia presents 11 major barrier islands. Jekyll provides the easiest access (least impediments) to ocean views and the beach of all the islands to which you can drive. The entire island is a Georgia State Park. There's an $8 fee for a daily pass. A monthly pass is also available for around $55 per vehicle per year. Residential and commercial owners pay an annual fee to lease the land on which their homes or businesses are built but they cannot own any of the land since all land is owned by the State. The park offers a wide variety of activities from beachcombing, golf, bike riding, golf cart tours, Sea Turtle exhibitions, mini golf, arts and crafts festivals all year long, and quiet getaways at any one of several resorts. Even in the high season spanning late May through mid August (before the children go back to school), this island is not so busy with visitors as to be off-putting. It's a very pleasant get away from it all location and quite accessible from Atlanta, Savannah, or Jacksonville by car, or you can fly into the local Brunswick airport. There's even a small airport on the island. The nice thing about Jekyll is you may enjoy it any time of year. It's never very cold or unpleasant on the island all year long. Go and enjoy. read more

The worst beaches. The water is brown and even opaque and muddy near the shore. You have to pay to enter the island with a Car. There is hardly anything to do and all of the food and minimal experiences are mediocre and overpriced. read more

The lights are a mix of schlock and the the beautiful Oaks. Really you can do better. And the pumpkin carriage? Can you get more trite?

Love this place! We started coming down in 2002 and boy has it seen some changes! Gone are the 60's motels and you now have a choice of hotels to chose from! Westin, a few Hilton choices, Home to Suites and Hampton Inn and Marriott Courtyard /Residence Inn. Not to mention the original Jekyll Club Resort or their newer Ocean Club. Wow. Amazing day on the bike trails today. So beautiful, with absolutely perfect weather. The bike trails circle the island in about a 11.5 mile radius. We turned around and backtracked and rode a little over 20 miles. There is a little bit of everything on the trails. Beach, marsh, historical areas, beautiful homes, hotels, ruins and tombstones. So much to do, I can't wait to go back. Entry to the island is 6.00. Parking is plentiful. Go and spend the day on the trails. Just a short drive from Jax. read more

Wow! Gorgeous and natural beach! It's very serene and there are few buildings and few people. Bring bug spray for the beach gnats and sand fleas. They were swarming everywhere! I grew up in FL so it's nice to see a beach that is still in its natural state. read more

This is my second trip to Jekyll Island, and my second time riding bikes there. My first trip included a nice long bike ride on the trails on the backside of the island, over board walks, through the marsh, trees, and such -- on this trip, we stayed on the trails that follow the ocean. They each have their perks: the trails on the backside are particularly scenic and occasionally shaded, while the trails on the front side have a view of the ocean as well as a much-needed ocean breeze. Bikes are rented by the hour, for a day, for a 24-hour period (not the same as a day), for 3 days, and for 5 days. You are required to take a lock if you'll have the bike overnight -- the "lock" is a chain-link section with a padlock and key. All bikes appeared to come with a basket on the front. You are also given a light that clips onto the handlebar. In Arizona I ride a mountain bike -- a very nice one. If you also ride a nice two-wheeled such machine, allow me to knock your expectations down SEVERAL notches. The bikes you'll rent and ride here are your very, very basic bike. My hands kept squeezing for the brakes -- noooooope...gotta pedal backwards if you want to stop. My right hand kept trying to switch to one of my other 26 gears -- noooooope...one gear only! My rear end starting thinking, "Hey! What's goin' on here?!" You guessed it, no full suspension. But the bikes were in great condition and they appear to be very well maintained. But did I love it? Absolutely! It was great fun with my BFF and her little son. And I burned nearly 700 calories...with a great view. read more

I almost didn't want to post this review. As Jekyll island was the the perfect escape during these difficult times. No fast food restaurants or ugly strip malls. Just nature at its best with some incredible historical sites, beautiful beaches, and great walking/biking trails. The holiday decorations in the historic district were stunning. The old live oaks were draped with thousands of white lights. The Christmas tree, which is a permanent fixture on the grounds of the Jekyll Island Club Resort, was blanketed by colorful lights. We traversed most of the island by bike and rarely saw a soul. We walked the empty soft sanded beaches, admired the amazing stars at night and slept soundly with the sound of waves crashing in the distance. Lighted holiday scenes were also situated beyond the district and had well marked signs to designate the route to see the various displays. As with many coastal towns, I would not want to visit during the height of the season. But this pre-Christmas getaway was food for the soul. read more

About 20-30 mins off of I95, plus a toll. Fun break for the family. 2 - 18 holes of fun mini golf with cool obstacles. A few playgrounds for the kiddos to burn off some energy and a cute little place to grab pizza, ice cream and drinks. Have a little more time? Affordable 9-hole golf course, 2,200 yards total (said to be the hardest course on the island)! Great bike rentals, Italian, covered bikes and segways for exploring. Real golf on Jekyll Island is excellent too, if you're planning a stay. Gas station next to the mini golf, for a convenient fill up. read more

This is a review of the BIKE RENTAL company, not the trails themselves! BIKE RENTAL: My family and I went in to check out the 4-wheels "double surrey" device. This is a two-row, four-pedlar car/bike thing. It looks like it might be hard to pedal, but it's way easy, and huge fun! Even with just my wife, my 13 year old, and me pedaling, and the 9 and 10 year old just acting as ballast, it was not hard. The gentleman who works there, checking out bikes, generally tried to talk us OUT of renting the thing at all. He told us "oh, it's really hard to drive!" Then he said "You can't stop pedaling or the chains will fly off! And we won't come get you!" And then he said "are you sure you want to try this?" It was beyond off-putting. It was weird. The lady at the mini-golf hut, where I paid for the bike rental, was really nice. But had we been of softer resolve, we would have missed out on this excellent activity! There is now a NEW bike rental place that is set up in the parking lot of the Days Inn. They have the same surreys and bikes as this place, but are way nicer and easier to deal with. Prices are within a buck or two, so call it a wash. Go there. BIKE TRAILS: The trails around Jekyll are great. I highly recommend you bring or rent a bike and enjoy. If you take the trail behind the DQ (to the left as you face it), you'll go over a small foot-bridge and then see a huge alligator on the left. He's been there the last two years, so I think he hangs out there. Don't miss him! read more

We LOVED our bike riding adventure-From the time we picked out our bikes until we returned them!! I wish I could remember the gentlemans name- he was super friendly and encouraging! I wanted to try the three wheeled tandem with my daughter. After knocking over a bike inside the garage and riding over a curb while practicing, I know he thought we would be returning it within a few minutes! But we didn't! When I came back 4 hours later he checked me for bruises and scrapes and high fived me when he saw how well we did!! The bike was hard to get used to, I felt like we were tipping over sometimes when we weren't. But It was a great time with my daughter working with her biking around the island. My husband and 2 sons rented regular bikes and one of the chains came off toward the end of our trip but we fixed it easily!! The island is beautiful. The paths are so nice and take you everywhere!! We even saw 2 deer in the wooded areas! It was a great adventure and not too expensive! If we come back we would rent bikes for our whole stay since its easy to go anywhere on bikes!! read more

I had the best time cycling around these trails on my rusty, rented bike. Yes, the bike was old and rickety, but who cares? The trail is gorgeous and meanders alongside the ocean, under old mossy trees, through the town, and over the marshes. It was really the perfect morning! We even stopped for big gulp of margaritas along the way, which was perfect and made us forget about how sore our butts were. ;-) read more

Doris and Malachi were really amazing! They were pleasant and really tried to help organize our family chaos. We started out our day with my kids trying to figure out whether not they really wanted to go but in the end we rented four separate bikes. We had all sorts of varieties to choose from. We began just renting for an hour and ended up staying for four. The island is amazing and the people were very polite and considerate. We plan to do it every time we come back! read more

This was our first trip to Jekyll Island. It was a neat island. All the places to eat are local and we were never disappointed in where we ate. We went to the Georgia Sea Turtle Center and learned a lot about sea turtles and how they care for injured sea turtles which was fun. We rented bikes four 4 hours another day and rode all over the island and road through the historical area. We also road our bicycles on the wooded trails and the trail up near the beach. We enjoyed that so much. Another fun adventure was spending the day at Driftwood Beach. The driftwood was cool to look at and climb around on. So glad we decided to make this our vacation this year. read more

Awesome trails, especially in the woods. Wish there was a little more signage to help tourists on the trails/driving into the island. Specifically, the bike rentals need to advertise at the bridge getting onto the island there are bike rentals-and add an arrow or say-Days Inn! We rented a bike from here to ride down the trails. It was a great experience. The only problem I personally had was that to brake you need to pedal backwards. I am not most adept of riders and this was a problem for me. My husband didnt have any problems with that so that was just me. read more

The 4 seater that we rented to ride lost its peddle 6 times before we made it back. We had to cut our trip short due to it in order to get back in town. When we returned after only being gone 40 min and stated the peddle came off numerous his response was ok I'll fix it! That was all! Not I'm sorry would you like a partial refund or would you like another bike to ride nothing. He was so rude! Never again thru them! read more
