Initially, he assumed they were mosquito bites from being outside, but it eventually became clear that his room was infested with bed bugs. Let me say that the maintenance staff member, Aaron, was responsive and helpful throughout. He first arranged a mattress replacement and, when the problem persisted, scheduled an exterminator. Unfortunately, even after two additional treatments--including one with a stronger formula--the infestation continued. After the third treatment failed, we reached out to Aaron late on a Saturday evening (July 19), and he immediately found a single-occupancy unit for my son and arranged transportation to move him out that same night. His effort and concern were greatly appreciated--he was the only part of this experience that we felt was reliable. We cannot thank him enough. That said, the ordeal caused significant stress and unexpected costs. We had to discard and replace bedding multiple times, buy vacuum-seal bags for transporting clothing, and pay for professional laundry services to avoid bringing the infestation home. This is not the type of situation--or expense--we expected when paying for student housing. Even before we realized the last treatment had failed, I reached out to WISH's main number to ask to speak to WISH leadership to request some form of refund or compensation, which I felt was entirely reasonable given the circumstances. I was told the only recourse was to send an email to arrivals@internsdc.com , which I did on July 18. I've sent multiple follow-ups and made several phone calls since then, and I have yet to receive any response. When I called again today, I was told the notes in the system simply stated that the room was inspected before and after my son's stay and that no bed bugs were found--implying, absurdly, that he somehow brought on the infestation himself. Given the timeline and the repeated failed treatments (and mattress replacement), this suggestion seems not only unfounded--but offensive. I was advised that "an email will be sent" to someone in charge but, this has been done before and after a month of silence, it seems clear that no one at WISH intends to follow up or acknowledge any culpability on their part at all. Perhaps the strategy has been to ignore us until we just go away. I would stop short of advising people not to utilize WISH at all--my son did have a positive experience in D.C. overall--but I would strongly caution to expect that if any issues arise, you may find it extremely difficult to get a timely or adequate response from anyone in authority.

The house director Daniel cares deeply about the residents in the house and is always trying to find new ways to make the house even better. Resident feedback and suggestions are taken seriously and usually they are incorporated when possible. Since the house closed the kitchen and switched to catered meals the food quality has improved exponentially! I really enjoyed my meals from here as I thought the catering team did a great job! While the pandemic did prevent in person events from occurring for quite some time, the house has had some great events recently now that restrictions have been lifted. If you want a great living experience and the opportunity to meet people from all over the world who work in a variety of fields and are very accomplished in those fields then this is the place for you. The house is very much a community and thrives off engagement amongst the residents. If you're anti-social and not interested in learning from others then I'd recommend you look elsewhere

But nowhere, not even at Swarthmore have I ever had the experience I had dealing with the whorediot staff the GW Summer Housing and their decrepit crack shack that can somehow still be called a "Housing Structure". My story is too long to include here, so I'll add a link later to a youtube video of me reading it. Thank you GW Summer Housing! Thank you for giving us a shit room. Thank you for waiting two days to send someone to investigate water damage. Thank you for not giving us any information and being evasive on the phone. Thank you for leaving us with a ruined stove/oven for three days. Thank you for giving us what you characterized as an optional temporary move for three days. Thank you for then telling our program coordinator and not us that the optional and highly inconvenient move was actually a mandatory optional and highly inconvenient move. Thanks for then revoking our access to our dorm at 8:00pm without telling us or our program director. And thank you, for having the amazing ability to return our swipe access. For a whole hour. That must have been a big strain. You all should take a vacation day.

My friend and I booked a room at the West End which was in their second tier of accommodations (they have three tiers) for $2900 each for 8 weeks. The room was in filthy condition with rust everywhere and paint peeling off the wall. The appliances were not working and the windows overlooked an alley with two large dumpsters. Realizing that this was no way to spend a summer, we paid an additional (discounted) rate of $135 each to upgrade to City Hall which is their top tier housing which they assured me was "luxurious". For the first four weeks, the air conditioning did not work. There were five instances where we were woken up in the middle of the night (between 1am and 4am) by the malfunctioning fire alarm and forced to evacuate. Throughout my stay, only one of three elevators was regularly operating. While many folks in the housing office were nice and even somewhat sympathetic to our concerns, they were unwilling to offer any sort of refund other than $75 for our troubles (remember that we were paying over $3000 each). I will say that the location is quite good (only a 10 minute metro ride from Capitol Hill and walking distance from the White House and Georgetown). Nonetheless, I would say that GWU housing is worth about 50% of what they charge at the moment. We were paying on average $3000 a month for a cramped apartment with malfunctioning air conditioning and fire alarm systems. The fact is, you'd do much better looking at non-student centered housing in DC as you will find higher quality accommodations for a lower price.

Literally right next to the metro where you can get everywhere basically, a bunch of food places and stores, etc. The front desk staff is really friendly and was helpful on day one when I was extremely stressed. I like the layout of my apartment, the four elevators so you don't have to wait too long, the view from the window, and even the nice touches the staff threw in like a roll of paper towels and dish soap. I've never had that before and it's cool. Even my garage spot is pretty great, it is a few garage floors down but it's right by the elevator so I like that. Minor things not worth taking a star off, but move-in was a little weird as I was told I could park in the loading dock but then I was told onsite that I had to park in the future resident space. A little miscommunication there but no big deal. the finish on the appliances is really easy to chip- I had a scrape on the fridge moving in. There's also not a ton of storage space, and it's a little Tetris playing to get everything to fit especially if you are coming from a place with much more storage, although the walk in closet does help with that.

We've experienced countless…read moreissues with this apartment complex, and we are finally moving out in May -- counting down the days. What happened today was the final straw and made me sit down to write this review. Let's start with the front desk staff: rude, unwelcoming, and consistently unhelpful. They never greet you, and if you ask for anything, it's like you're inconveniencing them. Here are just a few of the problems we've dealt with: * Guest Parking: We've noticed guest cars parked without passes multiple times. There was even a night we couldn't get a spot. We reported it, and they claimed they'd handle it -- of course, nothing was ever done. * Second Parking Spot: We asked several times for an additional parking spot. They kept saying there weren't any available, even though half the garage sits empty and no one parked next to my boyfriend for months. Instead, they suggested we rent a space at their "sister building" across the street -- for $200/month. They described this as "gracious" and "cost-effective." How is $200 a month for a spot not even in the building either of those things? * Loading Dock Reservation: My boyfriend emailed to reserve the loading dock for our move-out. He had to follow up after they initially ignored him. When they finally responded with available times, he replied with our preferred time -- and got no confirmation. So I went to the front desk to make sure we were set. The man working there was extremely rude and abrasive. He aggressively grabbed the binder and snapped, "Why is he saying I didn't respond? I responded." I calmly explained I just wanted to confirm our reservation. He was dismissive and disrespectful, and tossed the binder aside. Other issues worth mentioning: * Ring Camera: We installed a Ring camera and were told to take it down -- despite there being nothing in the lease prohibiting it. They said they would send a community-wide notice about removing cameras. That never happened. Makes you wonder -- why are they so concerned about cameras? Are they entering apartments when residents aren't home? * HVAC Issues: Our heat was out of control in the winter. Even with the HVAC on, our unit reached 75° and we had to sleep with the window open to stay comfortable. There are plenty of other places to live -- do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. *EDIT* The only reason this review is one star and not zero is because of the maintenance staff. They are the one bright spot in this place -- extremely friendly, quick to respond, and genuinely good at their jobs. I have nothing but positive things to say about them.

So far, the building is very quiet and safe, I would also like to mention that I loved the easy access to transportation; there is a bus stop in front of the building complex, and the metro is not far from here as well.

For the first six months, it was relatively quiet, peaceful and seemed well-managed - the apartments are spacious and fairly affordable with a 1.5 year lease, and I have never had issues with pests. However, things took a turn last Winter and since then, I have experienced ongoing noise issues with neighbors, violent behavior and harassment in the parking lot, marijuana smoke setting off fire alarms and seeping into my unit through the vents, and generally inconsiderate behavior from some neighbors. Management has always been kind and responsive, but they brush a lot of things off unless you speak to them directly and in-person. I'm not confident they have the staffing or policies in place to truly impact some of the more concerning issues I've experienced that continually affect my ability to work and exist peacefully. Definitely approach with caution. I hope to see improvement soon, but likely will not be renewing my lease.

(It boggles the mind that the building had to jump through hoops to upgrade their windows because it was in a historic district -- you'd think the Neighborhood Association would appreciate anything it could do to improve its appearance -- but I digress!) So it's ugly on the outside, but inside the individual units are well-designed -- lots of light and closet space. It was also built before the (1972?) change in the building code, so not only do the solid concrete floors & walls make the apartments sound-proof, they are practically fire-proof as well. (I should know -- there was a fire in the unit next to mine and the fire inspector told me that unless the fire spread to the hallway, there was little chance of a fire spreading from one unit to another.) The staff at the 24-hour front desk is friendly and the new building manager is great. He's very solution-oriented. He also used to work in university campus housing so he's more than capable of handling middle-of-the-night emergencies, tiffs between neighbors, as well as the random incidents with drunks and cranks. And the best thing (depending on how you look at it) is it's VERY pet-friendly. You could keep a pack of St. Bernard's in your apartment if you were so inclined.

I stayed here from late June to early July 2019. I have stayed at several college campuses including UCLA and University of Michigan so I know the drill when it comes to college dorms. The dorms are outdated and require a PHYSICAL key (NOT a swipe card or code) to get into your room. The dorm itself was quite rundown and while I was there, the AC broke (it was the summer and extremely hot). Also another thing to note: this building is infested with mosquitoes and biting flies (as of early July 2019 which was when I was there). My roommates and I NEVER opened a single window, yet we'd wake up covered in mosquito bites. Then there were the biting flies, the maintenance people left the door do the downstairs rec room open and let in MANY biting flies. These bites are twice as big as mosquito bites (very swollen) and are itchy and actually painful. These dorms have definitely seen better days. It would definitely do GW good to renovate this building or to tear it down and rebuild it! This is the WORST dorm I have stayed in.
