My son stayed at a WISH townhouse on Constitution Ave this summer. About a week into his stay, he noticed what looked like bite marks on his legs and feet. Initially, he assumed they were mosquito bites from being outside, but it eventually became clear that his room was infested with bed bugs. Let me say that the maintenance staff member, Aaron, was responsive and helpful throughout. He first arranged a mattress replacement and, when the problem persisted, scheduled an exterminator. Unfortunately, even after two additional treatments--including one with a stronger formula--the infestation continued. After the third treatment failed, we reached out to Aaron late on a Saturday evening (July 19), and he immediately found a single-occupancy unit for my son and arranged transportation to move him out that same night. His effort and concern were greatly appreciated--he was the only part of this experience that we felt was reliable. We cannot thank him enough. That said, the ordeal caused significant stress and unexpected costs. We had to discard and replace bedding multiple times, buy vacuum-seal bags for transporting clothing, and pay for professional laundry services to avoid bringing the infestation home. This is not the type of situation--or expense--we expected when paying for student housing. Even before we realized the last treatment had failed, I reached out to WISH's main number to ask to speak to WISH leadership to request some form of refund or compensation, which I felt was entirely reasonable given the circumstances. I was told the only recourse was to send an email to arrivals@internsdc.com , which I did on July 18. I've sent multiple follow-ups and made several phone calls since then, and I have yet to receive any response. When I called again today, I was told the notes in the system simply stated that the room was inspected before and after my son's stay and that no bed bugs were found--implying, absurdly, that he somehow brought on the infestation himself. Given the timeline and the repeated failed treatments (and mattress replacement), this suggestion seems not only unfounded--but offensive. I was advised that "an email will be sent" to someone in charge but, this has been done before and after a month of silence, it seems clear that no one at WISH intends to follow up or acknowledge any culpability on their part at all. Perhaps the strategy has been to ignore us until we just go away. I would stop short of advising people not to utilize WISH at all--my son did have a positive experience in D.C. overall--but I would strongly caution to expect that if any issues arise, you may find it extremely difficult to get a timely or adequate response from anyone in authority. read more

ATLAS home in DC - If we could give it 0 stars we would. Terrible communication throughout. Put in maintenance orders for many things upon moving in that were never fixed - lights out, broken toilet seat, bathroom door handle broken, etc. Had roach infestation, rat issues, never addressed so stopped putting in requests. Never got security deposit returned. Didn't follow security deposit protocol. The place is taking advantage of students. read more

Worst place I have ever stayed. When I moved in the washing machine had mold in it and they never fixed it nor addressed it. There were mice running around inside constantly, again they never helped with it. People who work there are condescending, rude, and constantly snap at you when there are problems. Workers entered the building without any prior notice from WIHN and even if it was an emergency they need to notify the residents as soon as possible. They did not. I did not get notified or any information until I reached out to them and they then finally provided information which I was entitled to days before and without having to pry. Just overall horrible. I cannot believe this establishment/company is legal the way they treat the residents is so horrible I can't believe they're okay with what they're dong. read more

PREDATORY BUSINESS RUNNING SHADY BUILDINGS----STAY AWAY The WIHN claims to be local owned, with the owner BOASTING about "being a long time resident of the H St Corridor" which was a historically black neighborhood in DC. He's made it his personal business to try and boot out Washingtonians to squeeze interns into buildings that they strong arm their way in to, make false promises about money, and refuse to pay out until they're literally threatened with legal action. they try to buy up buildings with seniors and people on the Inclusionary Zoning program that makes apartments in good neighborhoods affordable---something they don't offer to interns. the rent of 1900 a month doesn't mean you won't have multiple people crammed in bunk bed style to your apartment. heard multiple stories of interns 2-3 in a apartment with less than 650 sq ft. they are shady, don't maintain their buildings, boast about FAKE AMMENITIES---some buildings "gyms" are a small room with a treadmill, and in general--they DGAF ABOUT THE INTERNS, HE JUST WANTS THE MONEY. THIS ENTIRE COMPANY IS A MONEY SHARK. STAY FAR AWAY. do not stay here. there are so many affordable, convenient, furnished options for our DC Interns--the WIHN WILL NOT TAKE CARE OF YOU. This housing network will take your money and give you terrible housing in return. While the location and the building itself is very nice, it was quite clear that the upkeep of the apartment was not done. I am not the only apartment as other people in the program I was in had similar experiences. Furthermore, the manager, Randy, was very inappropriate with us students. He would make creepy remarks towards women and was always rude. I don't recommend. Please take your business elsewhere. read more

DO NOT stay with these people. The worst housing experience I have ever had. They illegally over-occupy their apartments and it is impossible to receive mail for the entire duration of your stay. They do not take care of their apartments and lead you on for months without fixing any issues. I lived in the Senate Square apartments near Union Station. While the apartments and facilities were really great, the WIHN management was terrible. I lived in a quad which had 2 wooden sets of bunk beds, while my other two roommates shared a double in a room with no windows and no ventilation. The ads and website are deceiving--while the WIHN does not babysit or check up on you, they take forever to get back to you when you do have an issue. The correspondence was unprofessional, unreliable, and they took a large chunk out of my deposit after I moved out for no reason. They also did not inspect our apartment after the prior tenants moved in, so I could have been paying for the previous tenants' damages. They are friendly and helpful at first--once you move in and pay in full, they stop caring. You also run the risk of living with people you won't get along with. I've never had a bad roommate experience until living in the WIHN. I was greeted with roommates who never did the dishes, never cleaned, and would not turn down the TV (even when asked) when others were trying to sleep. Luckily I got along really well with two of my roommates, and I met a few other awesome interns (two of whom I am living with now), but all 3 of us agree that the WIHN is ridiculously overpriced, overrated, and I would recommend interns find housing on Craigslist before investing in the WIHN. Sketch is the best word I can use to describe the WIHN and its policies. I also assumed that the WIHN would put on some sort of gathering for the interns so we could all get to know each other---this won't happen, and unless you know other interns in the program, you will not meet the other WIHN tenants. Save yourself the money, the sanity, and the sleep (you won't get any if you have a quad and share it with loud, disrespectful roommates like I did), and search on Craigslist for housing. I've also heard from other interns that the WISH program worked out well for them, although they weren't provided with as nice of facilities as we were. read more

The apartments are very nice. Having said that, a roommate agreed with me that the slogan for the wihn should be "not what I thought it would be". I was originally put into a nice apartment, but in a horrible location. Getting to an apartment in an area that wasn't on the edge of the neighborhood where all the gangs lived (told this by multiple DC natives) was like pulling teeth. It was only after several days of back and forth and a lot of effort that I was able to move to a neighborhood right next to the hill in a very nice apartment (why they have any starts to begin with. I wanted to give 2.5 but thats not possible) The washing machine in my apartment tore apart a $150 pair of pants and the coordinator took two days to get back to me basically saying deal with it (at-least they said they regret that the machine tore my pants?) The apartments they provide are nice, but they will do everything they can to take advantage of you and then not work with you after (why do you think you pay the entire summer's rent upfront?) read more

I stayed at the Senate Square location a year ago. These negative reviews make me laugh. Brandie and Sara were always great to work with and answered my questions in a reasonable amount of time. Yes, the WIHN is pricey, but this is DC (one of the most expensive cities in the country) and you are paying for convenience, a totally furnished apartment with utilities included. Try finding all that short term on Craigslist. The entitled brats that left negative reviews and expect plenty of space, perfect roommates, the most luxurious furniture, and every amenity of home need to wake up. Pull the silver spoon out of your mouth, you're not living with mommy and daddy in the suburbs anymore, this is the real world. The WIHN isn't perfect, but it's the best option I found available for my internship. read more

If I could have left no stars, I would have. We moved my son into the Greystone House for one semester of his internship in Washington DC. Though the website made the property sound wonderful we were sadly disappointed. My son referred to his room as "the cell". It was a tiny room in the basement with bars on the windows. There was a tiny single bed and not even a desk in it. It was dark and gloomy and damp. The neighborhood was sketchy. My sons girlfriend sent him a goody box that was promptly stolen. We paid $6700.00 for a single room that was a dump. Try another one of the housing services. This one was awful. read more

WIHN is the most unprofessional program. They lie to sell the property and overexaggerate - once you sign the papers, you never see them again (except when they enter your apartment unannounced and leave the doors unlocked). They also never respond to your calls when your A/C is broken, no hot water, elevators do not work, and appliances are broken etc. The pictures on the website are fake and deceiving. The single room is actually a makeshift den with an unfinished door and under construction wall. There are seven people sharing a two bedroom apartment. The bunk beds are unsafe and "ghetto" for the lack of a better word. They force you to change rooms for the benefit of their business after you have already moved in and do not compensate you. They won't let you know what strangers you will be living with until you sign your lease. All of the furniture is cheap, the lighting is terrible, the internet is off and on, the knives dont cut - everything is horrible. Honestly, we are all so appalled by experience with WIHN especially while paying these exorbitant price. I need to give the program 2 stars because the apartment was very nice and convenient to the metro system. Also, once the situation I was placed in was deemed inappropriate the director of the program gave me my own room as to avoid future tension. The director was very understanding and helpful. That being said there was clearly no thought put into the roommate matching process. I am a 27-year-old MBA/MPH graduate student who was roomed with a particularly young 20-year-old. The other three girls in the two-bedroom that we shared were rude and dirty. Dishes would pile up and be left for hours or days, soiled underwear was left on the bathroom floor, food was stolen, there was underwear on the kitchen counter for two-weeks and feces were left caked to the toilet. When I nicely asked the girls to clean up a little more after themselves they ganged up against me telling me that if hygiene is of such importance for me that I should clean everything myself. They told me I did not know what I was talking about and that not everyone needs to live in a clean environment. It was extremely uncomfortable every time I was in the apartment. Moral of the story is that I would not recommend WIHN for those who have graduated college or are graduate students. read more

The WIHN: Brandy and Sara are absolute saints. They are the two women I primarily dealt with from the moment they accepted by lease application until I moved out of the apartment. I was in Senate Square and Brandy lived right across the street. We texted her anytime we had an issue and she was on it ASAP and the problem was usually fixed within a day. Senate Square: This is an amazing place to live in DC. You are a 5 minute walk from Union Station and a 15-20 min from the Capitol. I lived with 3 roommates the first month and then moved an end unit that was massive for two more months. The WIHN does a great job furnishing the apartment. Yes the beds are wooden, but they do not have to be bunked. I shared a room with one guy and we had our beds separated. TV, Internet, kitchen, washer/dryer were all great. I didn't want to move out because the normal rent for tenants living there is probalby ridiculous. Roommates: It's random, but the guys I were with were great. Everyone was professional and pulled their weight. Everyone I spent the summer with had a great experiance with The WIHN and Senate Square. From the gym on the first floor to the pool on the roof, I couldn't have asked for a better living situation. read more

I can't say enough about my apartment. I met the two nicest roommates when moving into the WIHN apartments and we've talked about moving back in together somewhere near the same location once college is over and we try to find jobs. Currently, I go to the University of Texas and I'm about to graduate in May - I recently just spent three months in DC for an internship on Capitol Hill and just finished two weeks ago. I'm not sure if other people had a problem with management as listed below, but Brooke in the front office was really nice to us, responded to all of our maintenance requests in a timely manner, and there were no problems for any of us when we moved out. read more

I stayed in the Senate Square Properties, near Union Station, for three months this past summer. The beginning of the summer the power/AC went out for three days - the outside temp. reached 100 all days. It took WIHN two days to contact their tenants and let us know what was going on and when we should be expecting the power to be turned on. In order for us to receive packages, the concierge notifies the "resident advisor" to let him know that one of his tenants has a package. Once the RA receives this e-mail, he is supposed to notify the tenants so they can pick up the package. I waited for a package for almost two weeks and I finally went to the concierge to see if by chance it arrived. The concierge told me that the package (medicine) had been there for almost a week and that they weren't in charge of notifiying us - our RA was. Although the apartments are furnished, our apartment only had a few pots and pans for a total of 5 tenants. Needless to say we had to run the diswasher every otehr day. Instead of investing money for functional things like kitchen utensils, pots, cutting boards, silverware, glasses, etc they spent money on 4 long mirrors, tall laterns, paintings, and candle lanterns for decorationg that we do not need. We have repeately tried to contact our RA via e-mail and telephone; however, it takes him days to respond to our correspondence and when he does he is pretty rude. Since you have to pay rent in full before you move in there is no incentive for WIHN to keep their tenants happy and satisfied. I'd think twice and check out WISH before I considered WIHN. read more

As I am writing this review, I am sitting on my patio with my roommate I met through the WIHN. We lived at the Senate Square property for a semester and were very pleased with the location to both of our jobs as well as the up and coming DC social scene. The staff was always available when needed, but not to the point of being intrusive. Whenever we had concerns or issues with our unit, things were resolved in a very timely manner, less than a day. We really enjoyed our patio space and had a lot of fun exploring the local restaurants and nightlife. We are both so happy that we got to experience the WIHN. We feel that we were carefully and thoughtfully matched with roommates that we got along with and continue to keep in contact with years after we first met. As neither of us were from DC, our experience with the WIHN enabled us to enjoy the new city and meet people with similar interests. We would recommend the WIHN without reservation to any intern looking to come and enjoy all that DC has to offer. read more

BE CAREFUL DOING BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY! Read beyond the phony reviews (they seem to have been planted by the management themselves) and then believe every word of the other horror stories on this site. Our son was going to be in DC for a 2 month internship. We found WIHN and thought it seemed like the perfect housing solution as it is difficult to find furnished, short term rentals in the city. We are from California so it was not feasible for us to visit the area to view properties beforehand. Upon our sons arrival in DC, he went straight to the WIHN office as instructed by the WIHN representative. She was late for their meeting. When she finally arrived, he was required to pay in full, $4000 for a triple, so that he could obtain his key. He had already paid the $400 non-refundable deposit to secure the reservation. When he got to the apartment, he made the decision not to stay. The apartment, while newer, was not quite as advertised, or perhaps some important details were left out. It was bordering a known gang neighborhood, and his bed was situated under a window where the train passed by regularly on the level below him. The roommates bed was located within 3 feet of his. He did not stay a single night of the 2 months we paid for. My husband and I contacted the WIHN representative immediately that same day, asking for a refund. Upon her request, our son called her directly as well. He then returned the keys to her office, also as she had requested. When she still refused refund and it became clear that they were giving him the run around, we turned it over to the credit card company. She then told the credit card company that she would be happy to settle with us amicably. Since then, we have gone back and forth with WIHN, as they have dragged things out, requesting further information, etc. Still, no refund. The credit card company says they have done all that they can for us because WIHN provided them with a copy of the contract that our son signed upon receiving his keys. We understand that a contract is a contract. The lessons learned on our part are 1. to never sign something without knowing exactly what you are getting; and 2. this company chooses to act in bad faith and there is a reason why they require non-refundable payment up front and in full. Our son chatted with the roommate for a few minutes and he appeared to be very concerned about what the WIHN management would think of his leaving. He was from another country and probably felt he had no other options. Our son got lucky and found alternate housing through a friend of a friend. I can see how people would think this place is legit. They have a great website and seem to have all of the answers to make you feel like trusting them. We fell for it completely. Save yourself the stress and wasted time and money. Go through craigslist or a professional/reputable housing company. This is not that! read more

I am sorry to read that anyone was less than satisfied with WIHN and doing so makes me question the reviewers' expectations. As the mother or a young student intern, I agonized over the right housing choice for our daughter. We live too far away to get a first hand look at the areas and housing options. We had a disasterous experience with WISH when -- after taking our payment -- they did a complete "bait and switch", confirming different accommodations than we'd agreed upon only five minutes earlier. We immediately rescinded our contract and stopped our credit card payment. Following that experience, I was a bit jaded, but I reluctantly contacted WIHN. We were scrambling because, by this time, it was late in the game, and availability was limited. I am delighted to say that our experience with WIHN turned out exactly the opposite as the experience with WISH, and much better than I ever expected. Staff at WIHN were unbeatable, particularly Brooke and Brandy who were spot-on with their customer service, their description of the accommodations, and their follow up. Brooke was amazingly responsive, frequently emailing me well into the evening and over the weekend. Both exuded warmth and compassion, leaving me exceedingly comfortable with the choice that we made. Our daughter was housed in the Senate Square luxury apartments with 6 other women. Senate Square was exactly as it had been described to us. The apartment was impeccable and very conveniently located, with Union Station and a grocery store within easy walking distance. Her assignment on Capitol Hill was a very short-walk away. We could not have asked for a better experience. Housing in DC is expensive and WIIHN is not an exception. But, I'd gladly pay a little extra for the convenience, security, and peace of mind that WIHN offers. Our daughter's summer intern experience was one of a life-time. She met many new friends, gained enormous confidence and grew in her independence. We greatly appreciate having found WIHN and would do it all over again in a minute! My daughter is renting in the Senator's square building. Melanie, the manager was not friendly from the get go. We paid $6900 for a single room with a crappy wood bed and then one of the roommates rooms had bedbugs...We have called repeat times and nothing has been done...by this point they will all have bedbugs and it will cost thousands to treat our stuff...this should have been handled same day as a legal advisor told us. They talk about their "GUARANTEE" which is not so...this is totally unacceptable and I plan to take action to get rent back and the owners of this company need to know about the poor management..This is the first time I have ever posted about a bad situation but hoping to help the next person. read more

I loved living in the WIHN historic row home! My row home was on a nice quite street, with a metro station and a grocery store close by. There were good restaurants within walking distance. Having everything you need within walking distance is a huge advantage in DC. The WIHN staff was very helpful in giving me pointers about the city. The staff also fixed any problems in the house within a day, they even sent a cleaning crew by to tidy up. I would highly recommend using the WIHN for your housing experience. The WIHN was more than I expected for intern housing. Being a first timer living in DC, convenience was key. When comparing convenience and affordability, the WIHN offers the most bang for your buck. Great location, friendly staff, and wonderful properties. read more

Another horrific experience with WIHN. Shoulda checked Yelp first. Basement room flooded with sewage 2 days after moving in. My son and roommate were treated to a motel for 2 nights while room was cleaned. I then sent an email to WIHN expressing concerns over the post-sewage cleanliness of the room, wobbly furnaces and electrical equipment located in room closets, lack of smoke alarm/carbon monoxide detector. Another concern was WIHN's decision to turn off the air con in order to stop water from leaking onto beds from the ceiling vents. In retaliation, WIHN placed his roommate in another location and 'evicted' my son. I use quotes because the interns don't have a real lease, and can be forced to leave at any time. He was left homeless on a Sunday with his internship starting on Monday. And naturally WIHN kept the per diem for the days the 'lease' started until the 'eviction' and withheld a ton of our money for months. I waited to post this review because I was afraid they'd retaliate again and not return the funds. Not sure if I can be contacted through Yelp, but if you want to discuss further, please try. I feel bad writing this because Brooke, a WIHN coordinator, was so amazing when managing roommate details, but I will not stand by what the WIHN claims it to be. The WIHN management is rude, disrespectful, and uncaring! Before you move in they lay out guidelines and rules that must be followed and then they completely forget about them once you sign the agreement forms. Our freezer broke multiple times throughout the summer and when we tried contacting the WIHN they would take days to respond and we would be their last priority. We lost so much food because of that. Also, the WIFI goes out all the time. When we tried contacting the WIHN about it they would tell us how to fix it, and when it still wouldn't work, they would undermine our intelligence and ignore the urgencey of our access to the internet. MOST IMPORTANTLY: They tell you that they will text you and notify you when there will be WIHN staff coming to visit with tours or check ups. THEY DO NO SUCH THING. We have had male WIHN workers just barge into our apartment (of 7 girls) with strangers and families. I was about to get in the shower and all of a sudden a family of strangers is in my apartment and when I confronted the WIHN staff member that I was not notified anyone was coming, the staff rudley replied "Well I'm giving a tour". My hometown is 700 miles away and this was supposed to be my HOME. It makes us wonder that if they just barged in when we were home, did they do such a thing when we weren't home? If anything were to go missing then this could all be a serious issue. They are already untrustworthy, it wouldn't help their case. They complain that they are sick of babysitting us when we are all (mostly) 24 years old and just deserve a reliable, respectful place to live. That is not much to ask. While the management is horrible, the location, prices, and facilities were not too bad. (With the exception of the freezer breaking and wifi not working). read more

Our daughter recently completed her internship in DC and we were both more than grateful and satisfied with the services they offered. Our daughter has said it was a wonderfully memorable experience and has since referred many new interns to the WIHN. For purposes of this review, I'll try to just give a quick synopsis of our comparison research between the 2 big intern housing companies. WIHN vs. WISH. We toured properties at each before deciding. TYPES OF HOUSING - Both companies offer smaller apartments and larger homes. RATES - WISH rates for both apartments and houses were comparable to WIHN's rates for their row houses. WIHN apartments are a little more. QUALITY OF HOUSING - WIHN wins with both houses and apartments. The WIHN house appeared updated, tastefully decorated, and in good order. The WISH home we visited felt more like a dated frat house. Not necessarily bad mind you... just not as good. The WIHN apartments though...are phenomenal and blow everything else away. I wanted to live there! It's not just the apartments themselves which are very nice, but the actual property too. My daughter is an athlete, and enjoyed the gym without incurring a membership elsewhere. The laundry in their apartment was free. The entire complex is also wired for wi-fi, so while she enjoyed her roommates, there were many quiet places for her to get away. Her favorites were the club room and rooftop. LOCATION/CONVENIENCE - WIHN apartments were only a 10-15 minute walk to her work at the Senate. WISH did have a property that was a few walking minutes closer. However, considering how much closer the grocery and Union Station are to the WIHN property - I saw it to be an equal trade off. Our daughter though, after having lived there, appreciated the convenience of the grocery so much more. It allowed her to save money that she otherwise would have spent eating out. She and her roommates enjoyed making meals together. ROOMMATES - We are not sure how they select roommates. There is no personality analysis given. I can only assume that it is luck of the draw based on those that apply. I explained to my daughter though, that the ability to navigate through different personalities is part of growing up to be successful. Whether she took this to heart, or if it was pure luck - I already know that she made life long bonds of friendship with her roommates. SAFETY - Both WIHN and WISH are equally as safe in my opinion. Our daughter constantly reassured us that she felt comfortable and safe being in the area by herself at night. CUSTOMER SERVICE - The WIHN wins here too. This was a new experience and we were uneasy shipping our daughter off to DC as there are so many unknowns. The guy at WISH answered my questions and no more. And really... that was all I expected, until I called the WIHN. The woman I remember speaking with was so helpful and broke everything down for me - giving me a full understanding of what to expect. OUR CHOICE: Considering that for the location, the WIHN is cheap by DC standards, we were still laying down a chunk of change for housing. If I am laying down that money, I wanted my daughter to make the most of it. But there really is no question, dollar for dollar the WIHN apartments were hands down, the best value. In summary, I don't think we could have made a better choice. If you are a parent as concerned as I was...hopefully this will help you find what's best for you. read more

The apartments at the WIHN are really modern and have sleek design. There is a 24 concierge building which is very convenient and also a package pickup. The rooftop is gorgeous and is definitely a major bonus. The staff at the WIHN are extremely helpful and accommodating. It would be a disservice and unfair to other parents and prospective interns. First, the positive. The location is exceptional. A 20 minute walk to the Hill. Living with other interns provides an opportunity to meet other like-minded young people. The downsides: our son was assigned a room in a dark and dank basement with virtually zero window light or air, and a plastic mattress. The plumbing backed up the second week and the basement reeked. The plumbing was not repaired for five days. The room had only a single ceiling light. The landlord manager said she would provide lighting and when she finally dd, she provided a $4 Walmart desk lamp. The manager said she would host a get-to-know-you event for the 18 interns, which she never did. The kitchen was too small for 18 residents to cook dinners and it was usually a mess. Our deposit wasn't returned until almost three months after departure. We paid $4,500 for about 47 nights or nealrly $100 per night. My advice to interns and parents of interns is to make Greystone/WIHN your last option. read more

My experiance with wihn has been great. I love the location and they have been responsive and helpful. In looking at other short term housing options in DC the WIHN came out much more reasonable. I recommend this option to my friends thinking about coming to intern in dc. read more

One star doesn't even begin to describe this place, I would have given it negative stars if I could. And I'm not just going to complain about the accommodations, they were responsible for a summer from hell for me because due to the WIHN's poor management and illegal subletting scheme, I was evicted halfway through my summer while staying at WIHN accommodations. I was evicted halfway through my semester because the individual, who now I believe is the Executive Director of this organization, was illegally subletting the apartment to us. All 5 of us staying there were named in a lawsuit, and I had to hire a lawyer to get me off of the lawsuit or I would have been also liable for potential damages. Now that I am in law school, I realized we definitely should have looked at the papers and asked for lease confirmation, etc. I was homeless in D.C. because we were forced to vacate the premises, thank goodness I found housing at GW. Even worse, after he was dealing with a lawsuit for illegally subletting, he still refused to pay us back for the summer. He nickled and dimed us down to an extremely low price because we had left trash cans in the backyard. He wouldn't even pay us for the full half of the rent we were owed, even though we should have gotten a lot more back since we were evicted halfway through the summer while still in internships. When we tried to negotiate, the then Executive Director claimed he wasn't the executive director and just knew the person tangentially and was in no way affiliated with the WIHN...even though he was still claiming via email that he was. It was extremely shady, and as we tried to go up the chain of command it seemed that the entire thing was really bizarrely put together. Things might have changed but this wasn't a long time ago, and the guy that was illegally subletting our apartment is apparently the Executive Director. You might get lucky in that you won't get evicted because the landlord where you live won't discover the WIHN is putting you in an apartment that you legally can't be living in, but I would err on the side of not taking that chance. The only positive I got out of it were amazing roommates who I am still friends with today, and we got a lot closer when we had to deal with being evicted together. I wouldn't risk it. Save yourself the potential legal trouble, and go with craigslist or WISH--the facilities aren't as nice but you will save yourself potential eviction and from shady management. read more
