It is a little tricky to find and negotiate where the best views are, which I think is what keeps people away and maybe slightly intimidated. I took on this park after exploring the Maplewood Rose Garden, and found that jaunt to be perfectly doable, if you're thinking about making an afternoon of it. When I was there, we took some time to explore the artwork, which includes some great and unbiased pieces about Rochester's past. We hopped a small railing to get up close and personal with the falls, which provides a great view. If I am remembering correctly there are some tents and a community making their home in this part of the park, so just be aware of that. I highly recommend taking your next park trip to Lower Falls!

I plan to come back later in the spring. There is very relaxing overall feel to the place, and the main tree by the stream kind of reminds me of that tree garden from Winterfell. If you follow the back trail to the end where it meets up with the Hojack Trail and keep going to the other side, there is some kind of obscure trail that continues on toward a stream, and that's worth checking out. Once you get there, there are so many overturned trees crisscrossing the stream, so you can pretty much get just about anywhere in that area regardless of the forks in the stream and general lack of bridges (there are a couple).

The paths are lovingly maintained. I have visited in all seasons and conditions. Check out the town website for all of the community events hosted here as well as hours for the park and nature center. The historic home is open for tours and tells the story of the farm and family that owned it for 6 generations. There are restrooms near the parking lot area by the home. A small children's garden, a playground, a labyrinth /maze and exercise stations are just some of the things of note. There are plenty of benches to sit and relax and take in the views. This park is ADA compliant.

The parks department is liable for the horrid state our Monroe county parks have become. Fishing here is nearly impossible due to the pond liner coming up. No public bathrooms, geese and excrement everywhere. Severely overgrown, with thorns everywhere. The trails would be very buggy in the spring and summer and I'd recommend bug spray for sure. I loved the different trails and how they went through different types of forest land. The Irondequoit Bay Outlet Bridge was closed so there was no opportunity to cross the harbor on foot or by vehicle without driving all the way around the harbor. So that's a downer. Boats, jet skis, canoes..... whatever you are looking for, it is here. There is even a small beach which people seemed to enjoy very much. A nice place to kick back and enjoy the weather while getting much needed rest and relaxation. I really enjoyed visiting this place and hope to visit again in the future.
