The staff was attentive and friendly. The captain did his best to find fish; however, small porgies up and a lot of black fish caught and released. Different had my rods purchased bait and didn't even used what I brought on board. It was different but it was understandable they set up rods and artificial baits and everyone e took a turn to pull up fishes when they hit the lines. Everyone took home a fish and experience the strength of a strip bass. Had a bubble who not only pulled one up but also pulled up a double header. He'll never forget that. We also had a birthday boy who's brother fished with him for the first time. Happy Birthday Spence. Thank you to the captain and mate. Had a blast. Will be back for the porgies. I only wish I could leave negative stars. The absolute worst fishing trip I've ever been and even heard of.start to finish was horrible. For 7 hrs we had a view of the dock we left from. We had 30 people and were told we could only troll so 4 poles were shared by 30 ppl. Thats just 1 out of 10 . The captain and crew did an amazing job at Captain Joe's memorial. It was really breathtaking to watch Joe and Winnie's ashes swirl together in the water through the rose petals then slowly fade away. The crew accommodated our group and helped us honor my brother in law's dad. I know it was just what Captain Joe wanted. read more

First boat trip I've ever been a part of to fish. Caught a porgy! The ship and its crew were somewhat helpful with detangling my line and the people fishing next to us were hilarious. Two complaints, the guy filleting never got around to cutting my fish and the bait provided was not as advertised. Lucky for me, the crew to the right and left gave me some worms from their stash and me and the boys finally caught some fish after like 2 hours out at sea. The upper deck was empty so I tanned up there for like 20 mins uninterrupted. Had to much to drink to remember how long we were out there but solid afternoon, kinda of pricey but worth catching that one fish. read more

It was my first time fishing and it won't be my last with this incredible team of people, The vessel was incredibly clean, you can tell they take excellent care of this Boat. Boat was 30 mins late leaving, but returned promptly on time - not cool! My rod was stolen from the rail - patronize at your own risk!!!!!!!

The trip felt like a scam. The captain didn't want to go out for what we paid for. Blues and Stripers. only reason he did it because that's what everybody on the boat paid for. so, after jigging for blues for literally a half an hour, he drove us out and dropped anchor. Nobody's getting any hits. Nobody is catching any fish and the guy just stays there. Never mind trying to move around to try to find some fish. Trip was a total waste of money. read more

I went with my family we all had a great time, fish wasn't bitting much but it was still so much fun, we end up catching 4 fish and only one was keeper, captain Chris had amazing crew on board they very helpful and caring, all other people were very friendly aswell, at the end two families offered us 15 porgy fish which we kept, (bad luck if you refuse fisherman gift) so sweet of them. it's been at least 10 + years since I have been on the island Current. And that is because they were getting bad. I was a regular and decided to go elsewhere because it was money over customers satisfaction I decided to try it again but it was my definite last trip on the Island Current. The 5/2/24 night fishing was a complete waste of my hard earned money and more importantly time. The crew is without a doubt awesome and had nothing to do with them. But the captain.. he apparently dleant give a eff about the anglers. I have been fishing on charter boats 30+ years. This is the first time the ENTIRE boat didn't even get a BITE.. a effing BITE. NOT ONE NIBBLE. You would think the captain would do som about it. what did he do? he moved the boat in a circle to make it look like he was doing something what a disgrace !!! Saturday June 17th 7:30AM My Company (pumping solutions) rented boat from island current for porgy fishing. Bathrooms where horrible / not functioning Someone did #2 and flushing was not working. Young kid on the boat was very rude having rude comments all the time. On top of that he killed sea robin fish in front of everybody by jumping on his head and trowing him into the ocean. Later he was smashing fishes heads open with the back of his knife. I know we were there to kill fish and eat later but for my son such a theatre when I'm trying to get him into fishing was really not necessary nor professional. I also saw him screaming at old guy because he dropped fishing rod on the floor like he was a small kid. Why don't you show some respect to older people and make fishing trip more pleasurable for people to return. Management be aware individuals like him can slowly kill your business. read more

We were on the 4th of July Fireworks cruise boat last night and it was quite an memorable experience. I've seen Macy's fireworks few times in person but first time from a boat and its definitely quite an amazing view. Captain Scott took care of us and really found a perfect spot for the fireworks! We arrive promptly few minute before the scheduled 6pm departure time and they really did leave shore quite on time about 6:05. At first I thought we arrived at the spot way too early at around 7pm, it took only about an hour to get to around 42nd st from City Island. However when other boats started showing up more and more I can see why they would want to arrive early to get the best viewing spot, the 2 hour+ waiting time does involve bit of moving around as the Coast Guard and NYPD boats would keep making sure boats step back off enough but Captain Scott really knows how to maneuver the boat we ended up the closest one to the firework barges. The boat itself is a bit more crowded than I would've liked so definitely arriving earlier to secure a better seat would be recommended and we should have brought more snacks or entertainment onboard as it was about 2 hour or so waiting for the fireworks to start. It was pretty nice they hired a DJ playing on the upper deck but most of the time I stayed down as I thought it was too loud haha. I also saw some people brought folding chairs which was another smart idea wish I thought of. Since the boat was a bit crowded definitely can get a little loud but all of the other patrons on the boat were quite respectful and friendly we didn't have any negative experiences. The crew were all very friendly and lively. The bathrooms were clean and running great although sink didn't have water for hand washing. Overall though for ~$100 per person it's quite a value provided that you properly do some good preparation work. There was street parking on City Island Ave available so I didn't need to park next door and honestly traffic was great after we got back and docked around 11pm definitely beats having to brave the crowd along the Manhattan or Queens shorelines. Definitely well worth it if you're considering a river cruise for fireworks in the future. read more

FOURTH OF JULY CRUISE: First of all, I'm somewhat reticent to share my review on the July 4th cruise because I enjoy how intimate and friendly the July 4th cruises with ICF because I think of it as a hidden gem and I don't want to "share". LOL! I have taken this ride several times over the past 10 years and I love how casual it is. I enjoy being able to bring my own refreshments in a small cooler, and a chair. There is a bathroom(s) on board, everybody is always friendly and there is a DJ and dancing! But my favorite part .... it's not a quick ride and you're done. The boat leaves between 6pm - 6:15pm, you cruise downtown while enjoying super views of multiple bridges and, of course, the NY skyline, and then the boat arrives at its viewing spot and you can chill, eat, drink, and dance or just take awesome pictures until the big show begins. It's a nice evening on the water, and you're usually back around 11pm ... Can't beat the value. The crew is very friendly and helpful. Overall, great value, loads of fun! read more

Had to purchase my porgies from the supermarket because after chartering a private boat from island current fishing fleet for 18 of my coworkers on 8/16/20 we only caught 3 fish and that was after the mate offered us a few worms he had from the night befor... to say that my experience was terrible is an understatement! We set out at 8am sunday on a rainy morning to find out the boat had no bait to offer us.. they only had clam.. and as we unfortunately learned if your fishing for porgies you need sand worms/blood worms let me point out that none of us were avid fisherman so we knew no better. We were under the impression that the boat would supply all and would help us along the way, especially after paying close to $1800 including tip.. Anyway after it was all said and done we chartered the boat till 3pm but by 11:30 the moral was so low we asked to be taken to shore...so to add insult to injury we contact booking office and were told that they are fully aware of what happen but that it was not their fault, the bait shop didnt have the proper bait..and if we want to book again they will see what they can do for us. ‍smh.. as such i dont think i will ever book with island current again Side note the bathroom was utterly disgusting it had no running water it was equipped with some pump apparatus that noone knew how to use... i would also like to point out the only positive thing about this trip was the crew they were really apologetic about the situation and assisted as much as they could considering we didnt catch no fish! read more

The stench was awful if you were the unfortunate person that got the last seat and it was by the toilets and that was me, get ready to be sick!! No galley, old boat! The people on board that were serious fisherman didn't seem to care. Klondike Fishing has quality clean ships with a great galley. I'll stick with them. July 23rd 2016, We went on our first family fishing trip because our youngest son wanted this as his 13th birthday present. We never fish on a boat before so we didn't know what to expect, We easily booked online for a party of 4. Capt. Chris even called to find out if we any questions, Next morning We arrived to Jack's Bait and Tackle at 7:15 am, bought a HUGE box of sandworms which later found out from an experienced fisherman we would've been fine with 2 small boxes. We easily boarded the Island Current III by 7:30 am by giving Mate David our confirmation number and were lucky to get 4 spots on the right rear end of the boat. That spot was perfect as we were told that's where they drop the chum to attract the fishes. The boat left a little after 8 as it was overbooked with 77 people onboard, We were learning as we went along we didn't catch anything on the first stop. But a man next to us caught a trout which got everyone excited on our side of the boat. On the 2nd stop, we were detemined to catch something or anything. We got a couple of bites that we had to throw back in the water but fishing lines were getting crossed up, Mr Richard came and saved the day. He patiently untangled our lines and showed our birthday boy some pointers, before we knew it our son was bringing up porgies. He even helped my wife hooked the worms who was frantic of doing that. He was so helpful that she was able to do it herself and caught the biggest porgie in the family, which she constantly brags about. By our 3rd and 4th stops we were Pros, The Crew Mr Richard, David and the other mate (forgive me I didn't get his name) were attentive to us and everyone. It was a extremely hot day but overall we had a great time seeing everyone catch Porgies, Flukes, Trout and even a baby sandshark. Most of the all, the look of excitement on my son's face was PRICELESS. He wants to do it again next year. read more

Booked a charter for night blues or stripers 15 guys caught 3 blues That can happen but the "captain" could not hold a straight line to the fishing ground and the boat was VERY slow. It took 2 hours to get there and two hours to get back. I asked about the use of electronics to find fish and he said they went by word of mouth, not the fish finder. We anchored in a random spot as he was communicating with someone on the radio for advise and they could not hear each other well. When I asked what he was seeing on the fish finder, he pointed out squiggles as being fish. I have own a fishing boat for over 20 years and know what fish look like on a fish finder. Those were not fish. The bait was not fresh and the rods were dated. The head smelled like a sewer. The first mate (only mate), was surly and disrespectful. Everyone enjoyed each others company but I don't see anyone from our group ever using the Island Current again. read more

Traveled 2 hours to fish off the Island Current Fleet once last year which few fish were caught. I traveled again 7/27 after reading all the many fish caught in reviews lately. Once again was a not a good day out with the Island Current. Surely don't think it was worth $90.00 plus needing to buy worms that they should supply. Just to think I drove pass other charters on my travel to fish on that might be a better experience. The crew was nice and tried to be helpful. Not helping and will not return or refer. read more

I usually don't give bad reviews but I don't like false advertising and being offered services I didn't want so. Not long ago I booked a night fishing trip on the open boat advertised as Stripped Bass and Blue fish night. Instead we were taken to catch porgies which was not my target species. So Island current if you advertise a certain service and don't make it happen then the customers should be entitled to at least a partial refund. I give you two starts because the mates were terrific, but management should get their sh*t together. If I even book again with them (which I doubt) I'll call them first and make sure I won't be taken for a ride, no pun intended. read more
