Martin, a New York City parks commissioner, was the first to propose that the area from 72nd to 125th Streets should be converted into a park, Riverside Park! -From 116th to 124th Streets in Riverside Park, is one of New York City Audubon's bird sanctuaries -There is a statue of Eleanor Roosevelt and was dedicated on October 5, 1996 in the presence of Hillary Clinton, who was first lady at the time. -One of the smallest parts of Riverside Park is Hippo Park and was created in 1937 There is a Secrets of Riverside Park tour you can book to unlock more secrets. This is such a nice park to go to. You can run, cycle and walk. Have a picnic, bring the kids to play on the grass. See the Canadian geese, just don't get too close. There is a cafe by the pier for food and drinks. The washroom is by it. The pier is great to to sit on the the many benches there. To see New Jersey across the Hudson River. There are many entrances to the park. We came in from 59th and went out at 72nd. All so convenient and lovely. We also caught the sunset which was gorgeous. Pretty amazing to see the sun go down between the buildings over in NJ. read more

Riverside Park Pier 1 is a very enjoyable place to spend time. I enjoy seeing all the beautiful yachts and other boats. I'm glad it's uptown where I get in a nice walk. We walked along the Hudson River, taking in view of the Statue of Liberty from Brooklyn bridge. Ferry service was busy letting people off in Brooklyn. Lots of seating, fabulous people watching. read more

This is probably my most favorite place in Manhattan. It's such a peaceful and relaxing place, with some awesome views of the west side of the island. The pier is really nicely done, with many places to sit (or run around if you have a toddler). I absolutely love coming here and I make it a point to do so several times a week. read more

Love this area of Riverside Park. Spacious walking paths and usually not too crowded during the afternoon. I recommend using the park entrance is on 71st, you get to walk past the Elenor Roosevelt monument and then a dog park! The dog park has an "all dogs" area and a "small dogs only" area. Don't you dare eat here and not order the Old Bay Fries. They're amazing. The view is also wonderful. We went on a Thursday evening around 5pm and it was fairly quiet and relaxing - especially for NYC. This spot is great for a quick snack and beers (several on tap) and pitchers of sangria. It's right on the water and you can have your dogs as the entire seating area is outside. Beware though: the birds are relentless and not in the slightest bit scared of you. read more

I'm going out of my way to post this lone review of Riverside Park 'Pier #1' because I see it is only reviewed by three other people on Yelp and their reviews are listed under (what I consider) a misnomer. Folks, this is Riverside Park Pier #1. Not correctly known by any other name. Accept no substitutes. I don't hold with 'promotional' or 'vanity' addresses. I'm also going out of my way to review it because [thoroughly despising Manhattan as much as I do] this means I should give 'fair credit' and recognition to whatever tiny morsel of merit I happen to encounter. So that's what I shall do. Riverside Park Pier #1 is a pier which juts out from the UWS practically into the middle of the Hudson River. It's better than the High Line. You heard me! It is easily the most interesting spot in the entire shithole island. Yep. It is easily the most refreshing, reinvigorating spot in the entire latrine. If I had to live in the city I would come here all the time. A short-list as to why? Would run something like this: Sun! Sky! Waves! Ships! Nature! Fishing! And..lack of other New Yorkers (this is what mars the High-Line. Why go anyplace where crowds of other Manhattanites are present? The whole point is to get away from these a-holes) Anyway so yea. This is practically the only spot in the entire island where you can still be in Manhattan and yet physically be as removed, remote, and separated from it as it is possible to be. You are technically still in Manhattan, but you're really out in the middle of the river. You don't even have to turn around and gaze back. Thus, however many feet this pier is (300? 500?) it feels like emerging out into another world. It's clean. It's sleek. It's well-designed. There are no advertisements, no loudspeakers, no neon, no stores, no Nazi NYPD stormtroopers, no automobiles, no nothing! That's what's great about it. Sure, it's only the Hudson River but its still somewhat marine-like and your lungs can taste fresh air. Your ears can take a break from the constant sound of traffic, horns, tourists, trains, sirens, coughing/sneezing, panhandlers, brats wailing, crappy hip-hop. Treat your eardrums instead to the soft lapping of waves and river breezes. The occasional toot of a ship. Take up a seat near one of the fishermen and just relax. Don't do anything. Don't check your phone, don't send txts, don't take pictures. Be a human being for twenty-five minutes! Be a part of the real world of nature and sensation and wonder. There should be a LOT MORE piers like Riverside Park Pier #1. Merely by strolling down to the end of this pier, you can reassert your humanity and individuality. Stay out there for a while, and then...stroll back. You'll be the better for it. I am not exaggerating when I confess that when I first landed in New York--and was scouting around for places to reside, this was the one and only spot on the island which recommended itself to my consideration. Said another way: this is the only cool spot in the city. You can take the rest of the city and blow it to smithereens for all I care. Once again: Riverside Park Pier #1 gets my highest recommendation. Central Park, Times Square, all that other New York crap? Forget that. Go here instead. read more

Great spot to chill with friends and/or family for a drink or dessert. They red velvet ice cream sandwich is delicious. And I'm not a fan of red velvet anything. Def sit chill and grab a bite if you're passing by. read more
