This super tiny, super quiet sleepy little island town springs to life bright & early each & every day as marina users from all over arrive into town ready to head out to the famous Cedar Key Grouper waters for some stellar fishing Pirate style! Arrrr! It gets very busy here, lots of fishermen, big trucks & boats & trailers & lots of bloody golf carts everywhere so parking can get tight! Watch out! Arrrrr! Get here EARLY to troll the backwaters for Red fish & Trout or head to the clam leases where farmers produce tons of the nation's farm raised clams. The clams are amazing but the fishing is better. Captain Hubbers & I wanted to get in on the action in Cedar Key & boy did we ever. Good times. Arrrr!! He showed us so many of the keys and he knew a lot about the birds and the history of Cedar Key itself. I also appreciated the fact that when he didn't know an answer, he simply admitted that he didn't know--he didn't try to make something up. The tour was $30 and lasted about 1.5 hours. He even took us to see the lighthouse! It was a lot of fun.

It was nice to go places that weren't used by bigger & more commercial operations, felt like it had a more personal touch, We saw gators & a few really big ones, lots of different types of birds my only regret is that we did the 1 hr tour & that went by quick so I would recommend doing at least the 2 hr if not longer if you want to really experience the waters less traveled... They have a campground onsite as well & I'm hoping to bring my camper next time I"m down this way & will be taking another ride to explore some different areas..

Unfortunately the boat they gave us was TERRIBLE and I'd be embarrassed if this were my company. The boat was dented up outside (not a big deal) the seats were ripped and foam coming out, the floor and seats had mold growing all over it. I would never rent this boat to anyone advertising my company on it, truly an embarrassment. We've used Cedar Key Island Tours many times in the past and will definitely return to them and steer clear of Cedar Key Marina II.

Also it is a short trip from my Dad's house in Ocala. We took a boat ride to visit the neighboring by boat only islands. It is such an interesting place with an intriguing, dark history. The whole bird and snake island mystery was a bit freaky. So the pier is very lovely. I did not go fishing since I just wanted a day trip to the water, but you should. I had a nice walk up and down the pier. It has a bathroom and a great view. Lots of people out enjoying the nice weather trying to catch some fish. The pier is up against a bunch of shops and eateries. Take a walk around town too. My soul craves the water.
