Dr. Edward Chan is very patient and meticulous. His work is clean and he really cares for his patients. Dr. Chan was great with communicating everything to me in detail with always offering the pro and the con. I am writing this review because it is incredible and inexcusable to me that this office can ignore their own patients. I broke my foot in three places and was in a lot of pain. I saw Dr. Harris who I have to say was excellent. He took care of my broken foot and also injected my knee and my hip and solved some other issues. However, my broken foot was extremely painful. I took pain medication as per prescribed, I do not like pain medication so I tried to not take it as much as possible. However, at the beginning my foot was so painful I could not put any pressure on it or sleep however, when I needed more pain medication this office completely ignored me. I called several times and I was told someone would get back to me and they never did. I was without medication for an entire week and almost had to go to the emergency room, I just laid in my bed and waited it out until somebody called me one week later! When I told Dr. Harris what was happening he apologized. However, this same scenario repeated itself a month later I wanted to come in and get an injection in my foot so that I would not need any more medication, but I could not get an appointment and I also was having a lot of trouble walking, I called the office and asked for some pain medication and an appointment. They would not refill my prescription unless I came. I was ready willing and able to come in but I could not get an appointment! Then the doctor was going on vacation so I asked if I could at least get something to get me through the week so I could work and then I would come in. No answer. Then the doctor came back from vacation and I tried to get into see him but I could not get an appointment. I asked to speak to him on the phone and they said they would call me back and they didn't. He also told me to message him through the portal which I did, now it is Friday and I couldn't bear to go another weekend without any medication to help me walk. I messaged him in the portal. They read the message at 1 o'clock in the afternoon and no one ever got back to me. So here it is another weekend where I will have to lie in my bed because I cannot walk without pain. This is nothing short of malpractice, and I am disgusted with this office and their lack of communication. I saw another doctor in this orthopedic group several years ago for another broken bone and she was amazing. She always called me back when I called and she checked up on me after surgery. If I was in pain, she gave me advice and told me what to do prescribing whatever I needed in addition to physical therapy. As I said , Dr. Harris is technically very good and he seems to be a very nice guy, but his talents are wasted in an office with little to no communication. I had a personal and professional referral to Dr. Aimee Perreira. She was fabulous and got me back to work in minimal time. Immediately assessed my injuries, gave me a quick painless injection, and sent me to PT as a precaution and for insurance requirements. I can't thank them enough! I can move my shoulders again! After several Months of battling the pain I needed to know what was wrong. Took my xrays and found my dilemma ! I'm now ready for some PT, and got some relief from cortisone! Gave it to me right on the spot! Doc relaxed me and now I get to work with way way way less pain! Mediocre service, after days trying to get an appointment I have nothing! Every time I call, I am asked the same questions and the same speech is given: "I'll pass your information to the office so they can call you back and make an appointment" it seems like I am asking them for something free or it is a favor they do to me read more

I hope I can one day give an updated review that is more favorable, but for now my review will be based on my experience attempting to schedule an initial appointment with this Orthopaedic group. I placed a call to their number at about 10:30am HI time on Monday, and then followed the phone prompts and pressed "2" as a first time caller making a new patient appointment. It seems this type of call gets directed to some kind of a call center, and it seems like the call center is somewhere in the mainland US and it's probably a center that takes calls from many different businesses or offices. The agent who took my call had a southern US accent, and there was a lot of background noise that sounded like many other agents taking many other calls at the same time. This agent did not seem at all familiar with any specifics about Island Orthopaedics, and just had me answer a series of questions about my own information. I answered her as clearly as I could to make the process as easy as possible. She also asked for my phone number in case our call got disconnected and I gave her my number. She asked a number of questions after that and wouldn't you know it our call did get disconnected and it was not on my end. I waited several minutes, and it's now been at least five minutes and she has not attempted to call me back using the number I gave. This method of taking appointments is highly frustrating, and it makes me not want to attempt contacting this orthopedic office again. read more

My daughter broke her arm after falling off the monkey bars and we were referred to Dr. Aimee Perreira by the ER. At first I thought we'd have to drive all the way into town to get my daughter's arm put in a cast but thankfully Island Orthopaedics has a second location on the West side at the Queen's Medical Center West. We visited Island Orthopaedics on two separate occasions and both times the staff was super friendly. Dr. Perreira was great to be around and she did a solid job putting on my daughter's bright pink cast. After a few weeks we returned to get her cast taken off and the nurse sawed off her cast like a pro. The friendliness of the staff made all the difference in my daughter's experience which could have been very scary and I'm so happy we chose to visit Island Orthopaedics. Hopefully we won't have any more monkey bar incidents but if we end up with anymore broken bones there's no question where we'll visit next. read more
