Broadway quality shows for a fraction of the price. The Plaza Organization had humble beginnings in the early 80's. They have provided countless shows, workshops etc. since then. Working with various organizations across Long Island. The new venue at the library opened in January 2021. The 7000 square foot space houses a 420 seat theater and various offices. It puts on fully staged Broadway performances complete with a live orchestra! My friends and I had the pleasure of seeing their production of South Pacific on Friday 10/15/2021. It was spectacular! There are three other plays slated to run to complete the entire season. Each production runs for four weeks. I am currently gathering more friends and family to see their next production, Man Of La Mancha!! I think that area could use more attention, especially around the Lego area and the kids' toys in terms of regular cleaning and disinfecting. The carpets in the children's section also seem like they could be deep cleaned more often. Honestly, I think more frequent carpet cleaning would benefit this location and many other library branches across Long Island as well.

Only problem is the parking lot is on the other side of the street and the traffic is so bad on Hillside Avenue. A lot of natural light comes in and it's a big space for open play with a ton of toy options and a table just for coloring. The one negative is once open play is over (about an hour), they put away all the toys. I've been to other libraries where they leave the toys out for the children to play with as long as the library is open. The parking lot is very big and there were plenty of spots when I went, which was a weekday at 4:30pm. I liked how the open play was in the middle of the day as early times don't work for my family's schedule.

Definitely has a different look from your typical library -- it's a round structure painted with primary colors (blue, yellow, red), akin to a Kindergarten. But don't be fooled, it's your average Queens Library inside. Because of the unusual structure of the building there is a lack of windows so be prepared to adjust your eyes to the darkness inside. The shelves are arranged around the outside edge (like spokes of a wheel) and the center holds the computers and tables/chairs. This branch is still in the Dark Ages (no pun intended) so there is no self-check out yet. But it does the job and I generally emerge with a book or two in hand. I've come to feel at home here and feel that it's unusual shape and color simply adds to its charm.

I suppose a public place like this attracts all the crowds but this one seems to be a beacon for the unruly. As much as I hate to admit it, I do come here quite a bit to get some monthly reading and occasional writing done. Parking is on the street, so it can be pretty tight since it's near the commercial center of Rockaway Park. If your lucky you'll find some residential street parking or if you are come via train, its the next block over. The staff are alright. I've had minimal interaction and it has usually been hassle-free, so no complaints there. They have a nice little collection of fiction reads and advertisement for local Queens Library Programs on display. The space is small but for the most part clean. They have about half a dozen computers for public use, with the standard 30 minute session. Depending on what time of the day, you will have to wait for usage and it's like the Hunger Games if you go in the evening. I've met all sorts of characters shouting obscenities or ones that just straight up mean mug you. My trips here are brief. Overall, if I don't have to go here I won't, I rather go to the one at Broad Channel for a more peaceful environment.
