Alex at Catalina Last time I went to Catalina Island when I was under 10 years old. I decided to go again after decades had passed. Renting a golf cart for a self tour is a must. I checked out Island Rental golf carts and had a decent experience. I got a little lost and went over an hour ride. Alex, is very accommodating and refunded my full $60 deposit. The staffs seems friendly and nice. Easy to talk too. I am not sure if it is the same staffs every week. I like how they support veterans and give them discounts. If I plan to come back again, I will definitely rent a golf cart at this place. I like how it's a 2 minutes walk from the boat drop off. This was a really great experience. We rented a 4 person golf cart one weekday afternoon and had a good time exploring Avalon. Service was very friendly and they didn't nickel and dime you. I'd highly recommend this spot for golf cart rentals in Avalon. It's also very conveniently located near the ferry drop-off point. My recommendation would be to rent the golf cart slightly earlier in the day. We rented it at 2PM and the sun was glaring in our faces quite often, but also reflecting off the plastic/acrylic cover in the front and making it a bit harder to see. They are not the major company in Catalina and have their shop at one end of Catalina, near to the ferry terminal. They have great deal of buy 2 hours cart rental and get 3rd free. Other companies allow only 2 hours. Although these guys don't take card. $100 needed even if you want for 1 hours. $50 for 1 hour minimum rental and $50 as deposit which will be returned after prorated once you return the golf cart. Guys at counter were helpful but they should really start accepting card. No one carries such huge cash. read more

This was my husband's and my first time together to Catalina Island. We had both been there once before around 25-30 years ago so we wanted to experience it together. The weather was supposed to be to be sunny but when we arrived, the island was socked in with fog. We waited a while in hopes the fog would lift but by 2:00pm the fog still covered the harbor. We were a bit hesitant to rent a golf cart because of the fog and didn't know if it would be worth the money but decided to go to the rental place and see what they suggest. The gentleman who helped us at Island Rentals was kind enough to comment that we would not see much because of the fog and suggested we wait until next time. We really appreciated his honesty and decided to skip the golf cart adventure this time around but we will certainly be back to rent from this company the next time we are on the island. We rented a four seater gold card to tour the island. Jesus helped us with the paper work. He was courteous, informative, and helpful. He highlighted places to stop on the map. The cart rents for $60 and hour ~ cash only. They gave us 30 mins more since my husband was a veteran. It was plenty of time to go around Avalon. The roads are clearly marked where carts can go. They had plenty of carts to rent. We got breakfast before renting the cart. Traveling on the golf cart made the trip to Avalon more memorable. read more

I cant put 0 star but it is a 0 wouldn't recommend this golf cart rental. they dont check the safety in these carts. July 9, 2024 was going downhill and notice the brakes werent working good for light press and i press the pedal all the way to the floor and its still rolling down hill, panick started to kick in as we were going at least 15 mph down hill with my foot on the brake to the floor I see that there were a lot of vehicles so I dodged all the vehichle and people started honking at me as I screamed "I dont have brakes its not working". I TRIED TO TURN OFF THE CART PUT THE GEAR IN REVERSE AND IT WAS STILL ROLLING WHILE MY FOOT WAS STILL ON THE BRAKES UNTIL WE REACH A FLAT AREA. LUCKILY THEYRE WERENT PEOPLE CROSSING OR ANYTHING. First thing's first: YOU NEED CASH. This was a good golf cart rental because you could be 21+ to rent, compared to the other rental places where you have to be at least 25. They are kind enough to give you a map of the scenic route you can take and they highlight the trails for you. Something we forgot to do since we were so excited to start was ask about where to park when you plan on eating near the beach. There's certain street signs that tell you the available parking times/tow times, so again, it's nice to check in and ask. The golf cart driving experience is honestly exhilarating because you're driving around a FREAKING ISLAND. My boyfriend and our friends Jayana and Gabe were just enjoying our time on Catalina. The only concern with the golf carts is when you have to drive up a hill--these engines must take on so much on the daily! SUPER RUDE, CONFRONTATIONAL WOMAN AT RENTAL COUNTER. This place is the FIRST GOLF CART RENTAL you see after you leave the docks. As a small business owner myself, I rarely write "bad reviews", especially for other small businesses... I like to give people the benefit of the doubt. But definitely had a weird/uncomfortable experience here. When we first approached the counter to ask about renting the cart, cost, etc, the woman "helping" us (brunette, long hair) was extremely rude and confrontational. They only accept CASH, and you rent for 1 hr @ $60, plus you are required to put down another $60 "deposit" which you can use if you go over the first hour or get a refund if you come back in time. Since this was a cash transaction, I simply asked if there was something in writing stating we would get our $60 "deposit" back if we didn't use the second hour. I asked my question in a normal tone of voice, not accusatory - in fact, I was looking at the map on the counter when I asked it, not even looking at the woman. She literally SNAPPED at me: "Why?? You don't trust me??" I looked up and she was glaring into my face, like 10 inches away. I was definitely taken by surprise, since I thought my question was normal and certainly reasonable. I said firmly "Well, first off, I don't know you to be able to judge your trustworthiness, and second, I'm asking because it's CASH." Instead of apologizing, she doubled down, continuing to glare at me and snapped again: "I am trustworthy. We don't do business that way." I responded, "OK, well my question isn't personal, it's just business and I'm really surprised at your attitude." She continued to mumble snarky things about "they're not that kind of business" while laughing like a smartass. Once again, I was really shocked. SUPER RUDE, totally uncalled for. This all happened within the first minute of us coming up to the counter, and we treated her with total respect, just asked a simple question, so I have no idea what her problem was, but it was pretty clear she had no problem being rude and condescending. Never apologized or anything, just started going over "the map" so she could get our $$ and get us on a cart as quickly as possible. Honestly, I have no idea why we didn't take our money and go elsewhere, but we were on limited time before our ferry was going to return, and my husband just wanted to get going, so we rented the cart. The cart was nice, clean and operated well. The map is OK, a little hard to read, but plenty of signs marking the routes so it's pretty easy to navigate. You CAN do the loop tour in 1 hr, if you hustle and don't stop too many times. If you want to go at a less rushed pace and enjoy the beautiful scenery, then you'll definitely go over the first hour. We only did an hour, because we weren't too excited about giving this business any more of our money. It's a shame: if she hadn't treated us like that, guaranteed we would have just kept it longer, but sorry we won't give you more money if you act like a total jerk for no reason. I would NEVER treat a customer like that, and believe me, I've had more than a few who have treated me poorly, but that's just business: you can't take it personal, and you have to be the better person. If she were my employee, she wouldn't last too long treating people that way. Bottom line: DO THE CART TOUR, IT'S TOTALLY WORTH IT, and a cool way to see many parts of the island. BUT RENT FROM THIS PLACE AT YOUR OWN RISK....and for heaven's sake, don't ask the woman at the counter a question that might "offend" her, or you'll be treated not like a customer, but like the annoyance that you clearly are. read more

What a great time we had renting a golf cart from island rentals! They provide a scenic route that will take appx 1 hour but i would advise making it last 2 hours so you can really enjoy the sights and stops. They provide child seating options included in the hourly rate which was very much appreciated and set up the car seat for you. I will definitely rent from them in the future! read more

The cheapest on the island. You get 3 hours for the price of 2 and you can ride around the whole island in about 1 1/2 hours with stops in between. This place is cash only so don't forget to bring some money! They allow 18+ to rent, which is the only company on the island that allows such age! If you have the CASH, and can't get a golf cart rental at Cartopia, COME here! Friendly customer service, Alex, walked us through a very easy process to rent their golf cart. The catch is "CASH" paid only. We read up beforehand and were ready since we couldn't book in advance at Cartopia. As it turned out, this place offered flexibility in terms of "time." You don't have to commit to a 2-hour rental, but we ended up using the whole 2 hours, for we stopped a bit along the scenic routes for pictures. It cost $60 for the first hour and a $60 deposit for the 2nd hour. However, if you return the cart at 1.5 hours, you can get back about $30 of your deposit. It is also prorated. So, to us, Catalina Island Rentals is the best option. NO Reservation, rental time clocks in when you are in the cart (so you don't have to rent on the hour). This was a BIG PLUS for our family's planning activities. The cart itself was clean and functional. Although, per hubby, the brakes didn't work as well as he would have liked, especially driving downhill. But overall, it operated through the entire "scenic routes." By the way, the scenic route is ONE-WAY only! One suggestion for Catalina Tourism Company is to kindly POST the "scenic route" in a more visible area, especially toward the Botanical Garden.  A couple of us took the wrong turn toward the condos area when we learned there was a sign, "NO Rental Golf Cart".  We made a U-turn way into it and found our way back. On the right path now back up to the garden, we "saw a deer crossing the street," so that was way COOL! Maybe we were meant to be "lost" in the condo area! Otherwise, we wouldn't have seen our DEER! In the last visit, I learnt that there is a cart rental place that gives special promotion (buy 2 hours and get 3rd hour free), so I looked for and found it this time because I felt rushed to check out everywhere within 1 hour last time. They offer "buy 2 get 3rd hour" promotion to people who visit their shop before the noon. We got there at around 9:25am, so we got the promotion. The people (I do not know their names, but they were men) who gave instructions and greeted when we returned the cart) were nice and friendly. 3 hours gave us enough time to ride the given route (map is given) twice, stopping by attractions (follow the parking rules and block color rules) to check them out in person although briefly. We went near the botanical garden and saw the fox, and we also saw the deers nearby the Descanso Beach. While driving in the way to the botanical garden, we saw the Bird Park, and we thought that it was a some kind of attraction, but it was an apartment name (in case you think the same). Anyways, it was fun checking out the most of island surroundings without having to walk all over the places. read more

Renting was super quick and easy with Island rentals. We came early in the morning because it was first come first serve. It was $55 for the first hour + another 55 deposit for second hour just in case you don't make it back in an hour. You can choose to keep going for 2 hours and they'll keep your deposit (which is completely reasonable). The 3rd hour is also free so might as well. If you return the golf cart at 1 hour, you will get your despair back. When I went it was cash only so come prepared. The lady at the desk showed us the map and explained where to go and where not to go. She also marked on the map where the best views are so you can't miss it! Service- Friendly Price- $50 per hour. There are less than a handful of places to rent golf carts and the pricing is either identical or within $5. No reservations needed. I was there on a busy weekend and still had no trouble getting through the line quickly and getting a golf cart. Payment is cash only so be prepared. You will put up $100 when you take the cart and if you bring it back in less than 2 hours you get the prorated portion back. Anyone who is 21 years or olden with a valid license can rent and drive the cart. Tip- Usually when you think of renting a vehicle its for the whole day and you use it to go everywhere. No so much here. I suggest renting the cart first to travel around the island to check out the sites and this will take about 60 minutes or so even with stopping to take in some nice views and photos. Then return the cart and you can walk to pretty much everything you want to do in Avalon. read more

Can't go to Catalina and NOT ride around on one of these gas powered golf carts. It was $50/hour and we took two hours to ride around and explore the island. We could have done it in less time but we were not hurried and we were with a big group that could never coordinate their bathroom breaks. The guys that worked the front counter were friendly and got our carts out fast. This is a quick process and when I called for the guy because my belt didn't go on, they quickly provided a belt extension. The carts have to be limited to about 15 mph. There were some times when I hit the accelerator and nothing happened until the speed came down a bit. Probably a good thing cause I could see where some people would hurt themselves or others. On some of the climbs, it goes pretty slow but then again, we had a great time. We rented 4 carts and had no problems with any of the carts. Good Times!!! read more

We were looking for activities that we could do while my husband was on crutches (and was super sad that he couldn't surf with his sons.) Found a Groupon for the ferry to Catalina and looked up how to rent a golf cart. I was disappointed when finding that this please does not take reservations, but I am so glad we stopped by. #1 take away from this adventure- they know what they are doing. There is a reason this business has been around for so long. The staff was sooo friendly with each group. We went later in the day, afraid that we would not be able to get a cart, but we were zipping around the island within 20 minutes of paying. It is CASH ONLY. And they are amazing about refunding the unused portion of fee. We paid $120 for 2 hours, but make the loop with a stop at the casino in an hour and 15 min. Scammers! They will try to keep a portion of your deposit even if you are on time. They wrote down the time on our slip that we were leaving at, and told us that we had an hour plus a 5 min buffer. We arrived at 1 hour 3min, and the checkout guy said that we were only getting $40 of our $55 deposit back. At first I walked away assuming we must have been late, but then decided to go back and contest their math. As soon as I brought it up to the guy he immediately became agitated and began cursing and saying it was his employee's fault for explaining things incorrectly. Though he ended up refunding the $15, it was very begrudgingly and lacked any candour or customer service. I imagine that they regularly scam their hundreds of daily customers in the same way and likely make a killing doing it since it is all cash leaving the customer with no charge back capability. The golf cart experience was awesome, so it is unfortunate that they tried to scam us as otherwise this would be a 4-5 star review. There are not tons of options for renting a golf cart, so you may not be able to avoid them but certainly do not trust them, especially if you do not get your full deposit back. read more

We were there for a friends birthday and started off the day renting the golf cart and took a wonderful scenic ride around the island. It was a beautiful clear day and we could see forever from way up the roads. Be sure and take cash for Island Rentals as they don't take credit cards but they are worth it. You need to leave $ 60 for the first hour and $60 for the second hour but they prorate the second hour if you come back earlier. Explains how to drive the cart, and gives you a map which clearly shows where you can, or cannot go, and what points of interest there may be, and about how long it would take to go around. In that time, we easily went around Avalon 3 times, and made a few stops. The stops that you can reach with the golf cart: -The Conservatory (free entrance, donations suggested) - Wrigley Botanical Gardens/ Memorial (was closed during lunch) -Tons of beautiful photo stops. We even saw a teenage deer less than a meter away. - The Casino - The museum ($5 a person. Gives you a history of the island.) - Zip lining and Scuba diving (but unless you have gear, I think you need to register for those) It was a lot of fun, easy to drive, and we took a ton of beautiful photos. read more
