Went there for breakfast today with my husband... We both loved out food, and they had no problem with me ordering off the children's menu. He got spam, sausage, potatoes eggs and toast (A hefty portion of it all no less) and I got an egg, bacon and toast. Both came with a side of cantaloupe that tasted very ripe, and I actually ate it (Usually not a fan)! Our bill for all out food was only $17! so today we went there for a quick dinner before my disgusting ochem midterm. there was a coupon on yelp that was offered when you check in to the restaurant: order 1 entree and 1 drink and get a dessert crepe for me. we ordered the korean chicken and island style chicken with the pog (passion fruit, orange, and guava juice blend) drink. The korean chicken is said to be fried and marinated with korean blend marinade. normally, fried chicken would be very dry inside and the chicken inside would taste a bit bland. but the korean chicken tasted super juicy and very flavored with the combination of the korean marinade. the island style chicken was basically grilled chicken. it is also very juicy but i feel like wasn't as good as the korean chicken. the complementary dessert crepe was a total disappointment. i chose the one with fresh strawberries but when i got it, the strawberries were mostly frozen strawberries heated up with only the top strawberry being fresh. normally, the mini dessert crepe is four dollars, but after trying it, i feel like i would not pay 4 bucks for that! the service was okay..nothing too impressive. read more

Mix of beef teriyaki and BBQ chicken, steamed rice and salad: Really tasty perfectly cooked meat, the fried rice is interesting (tried just a bite)- not really fried rice but soy sauced and flavorful. Since we were a group, to split the bill, they told us only up to two cards can be used, the rest in cash. Stopped in at 130pm from traveling between different part of the city. I really wanted sit down and eat since traffics been crazy. Walked in and the guy said we are only serving to go and they close at 2pm. Ended up ordering spam musubi to go. I was so hungry i walked into the Japanese restaurant next door greeted to sit any where and ordered a Bento plate. It's sad that Island Style has 30 min before they closed and yet didn't offer me to be able to sit down and have some comfort food. 3 star for its service today. Whenever we're in the area or are craving Hawaiian food, my family and I always come to Island Style Cafe. The food here is so authentic and so similar to that of Hawaii, it makes you feel as if you're actually enjoying a real Hawaiian mean in Hawaii itself! Pretty decent Hawaiian food, but not quite the same as home on Maui. Really good service and very friendly; they made lunch for breakfast! If you're needing a quick trip to local grindz, then this place is a close as it gets. Not sure I get the crepe thing (I have never seen a crepe in any local place in Hawaii), but they are decent. Finally had the chance to eat at Island Style Cafe. We walked in expecting a little take out joint like most Hawaiian places are. This place you can actually sit down and they have servers. A big plus for me. The food was really good and the prices were incredible. I ordered the BBQ chicken plate with potatoes and a green salad. BBQ chicken was 3 large boneless BBQ chicken thighs that were grilled perfectly. The salad was a simple green salad with a delicious house made mango dressing. The potatoes were red potatoes that were pan fried and seasoned. The potatoes were the only things I regret. I wish I would have ordered rice instead. Potatoes were okay. Not bad but not good either. Servers were friendly and kept our glasses full. When we left everyone thanked us. 2 plate lunches and 2 drinks came to around 20 bucks. No complaints from me. read more

My boyfriend took me to this spot not too long ago. He said it had great reviews, so i trusted him. Wow, what an experience. It truly felt like I was somewhere else on vacation. I don't know if it was the atmosphere or the great food, but it was great. I ordered the Korean Fried Chicken and my boyfriend ordered the Islander BBQ Chicken. We had white rice and salad with it. Kinda regret not getting the side of potatoes. Next time I will have them, they looked good. Bad thing was, they ran out of fried rice. But at the end it didn't matter. The chicken was so good. The Island BBQ Chicken was my favorite out of the two plates. It took me back to when I was young and we would go BBQ at the beach. It had that tangy flavor. After our lunch, we had dessert. Snow cones! They have a variety of flavors and toppings. It tasted so good and the lady that worked there was kind enough to give us plum powder sample to try. It made my snow cone taste so much better. It was really nice of her. They also gave us a card to stamp each time we went to get a free entree. The only reason I gave this place 4 starts is because it advertises "breakfast all day" and its only for selected dishes. I wanted to try some of the breakfast crepes and wasn't able to. And also because they close early on Sunday. We went back this past Sunday at 3:00pm and they had closed already. But I'm sure i will go again very soon. This place is definitely a great place to go to for great Hawaiian food. I also heard they opened a take out spot in Chula Vista this week, so its closer to home. In a little strip mall just off the Santo Road exit from the 52. It's a small place next to a nice market. Island Style Cafe is nicely decorated and comfortable. The service is fast, courteous, and attentive. Drinks came right away and the food was surprisingly fast after we ordered. Everything we got (4 meals) was excellent. Nice flavor and portions. The barbecue chicken was my favorite. My salad included mahi mahi, lettuce, fruits (blueberries, strawberries), and grilled vegetables (perfectly seasoned). They have shave ice, but we didn't get any because everyone was full. We all want to go back frequently for dinner and/or shaved ice. The breakfast menu looked good too. read more

This is my absolute fave place for Hawaiian food...I'm never setting foot in L&L again! My wife and I shared the three different chicken dishes (BBQ, Korean, and Katsu). We both liked the Korean fried chicken the most as it was crispy and a little sweet. The BBQ and Katsu were also very good as was the fried rice and macaroni salad. I've been going to L&L for years but I'd have to say the quality is no where near Island Style Cafe's. My hubby is born and raised from Hawaii - I could tell he was feeling a little homesick, I did a little yelping and brought him here. This place perked him right up! Couldnt even tell you the last time I had it so I really have nothing to compare it to but it was DE-LISH. Super fall apart, tender, juicy, salty goodness. Came with a side of white rice and a salad that had this refreshing mango-vinegarette. 3.5 - the spam musubi fav. Huge! Like the combination of sweet and salty. I don't know if I'll crave for this. The gravy is rich but I did like the fried rice and crepe mixed together. My mother in law also go this wrapped crepe with spinach and eggs I believe. It was pleasantly tasty. It felt like another Denny's but I'm ok with that. I don't think this is something that you I would crave for or want to go back. Just bc I don't live as close to it but I don't want to take away from their dishes.
