REALLY REALLY wanted to love this place. Not sure I'll ever go back. The service was nice but the food was super bland, unseasoned and lacking any real flavor. I got the mole chicken enchiladas and the mole was watered down, the chicken was dripping wet and super bland. My brother got the quesadilla and it had some sort of non-descript flavorless cheese. Maybe we came on an off day (it was cold and snowy) or too close to closing time (we were there an hour before close). The only saving grace was the guacamole.

This is our absolutely favorite Mexican Restaurant. The food is all authentic and everything is delicious. The staff are polite and all of the service is excellent. The prices are very reasonable, more affordable than other "Mexican" restaurantsaround the area. It's nothing fancy, small and cozy, very comfortable atmosphere. Great drinks, fast service, delicious food and good prices. What more can you ask for?

Enchiladas Tapatias and side order of Refried Beans on the far side House Dinner two plates closest

This was our first visit here and it did not disappoint! Beans are authentic and not straight out of a can! We ordered the house dinner: it had a taco, tostada, burrito, tamale, Chile relleno, beans and rice. A lot of food for $12.99 and it allowed us to sample many items at once. We also ordered enchiladas and a side order of beans. We will be visiting again soon, I am sure. Chips and salsa complementary. Noticed a lunch menu served M-Sat till 3pm

This is the best Mexican food restaurant in town. The staff are wonderful and always treat my family well, no matter how busy.

What I mean by that is, it does not look like a Mexican restaurant. But it EXCELS at Mexican cuisine. I highly recommend ordering anything you'd see at a Mexican restaurant. The drinks: The Blueberry Fields drink was good but pricey given the size and wasn't "blueberry" enough for my husband. I liked it, but I'd want it by the mason jar, and that would be super expensive. I had the hibiscus margarita and it was *very* enjoyable. The food: My husband had the Des Moines Po' Boy. I wish he would have realized that he was basically getting a sub. He liked the soft bread. Overall though, he wasn't impressed. He said it was kind of bland. But he loved the fries and ranch. I had the puerco en salsa verde--this dish is incredible! Really tender chunks of pork in a rich tomatillo salsa verde with beans and rice. The only thing that could be better is if there were 3 fresh corn tortillas instead of 2. There is so much rich, delicious, saucy pork to eat, that you need 3 to enjoy it all. The tortillas are fresh made too. So yummy! In summary: Go here and enjoy all the Mexican dishes!

If you are familiar with an old Iowa City bar called the mill, there are pieces of there here The food was plentiful and tasted great. I had the brisket po boy tender cooked brisket and a tasty BBQ sauce The totally was under 40 for two of us.

If you are a grown adult or a college student who values cleanliness, do not go here. Bluntly put…read morethis place is gross. The environment is not clean; the surfaces are covered in dust and grime. My menu had not just wet water on it from wiping but the water was brown ... cleaning does not count if it's with dirty water. There was a hair in my quesadilla. The waitress really didn't handle it well. She kind of said she was sorry and giggled not in a rude way but just awkwardly. She wasn't going to take it off the ticket ... I didn't think I needed to ask since I had just started eating it, found the hair, and asked for her to take it away. When I did ask, she did take it off the ticket. I only gave a 2 because my husband actually liked his food. Both of us agreed however, we would not return. I get this is a college town restaurant, but cleanliness is still important.

I remember this as "one eye Jake's" to date myself from the early 2000s. I just missed happy hour, but it goes on from 3 to 6 Monday through Friday. I believe includes half-price appetizers and I think they might have a taco special too. They have basic street style tacos, which were delicious at three dollars apiece at regular price. The chorizo stood out and the Barbacoa was very good way better than what you find at chipotle. The revamping the menu and have a new Mexican chef and from what I saw I want to come back for the food alone. I've traveled to Cabo San Lucas, and even lived in Mexico, and this is the real deal - made by an authentic Mexican chef from Morales. The queso was dope with real white cheese. Super cool bartender. And even though my days of standing in line at the club are over, the set up was just like I remember it with two levels - so if you're gonna go, have a good time, just make sure not to be a D bag bro. Cheers.
