I have been practicing yoga at this Coronado Island gem for over three years & it has not only transformed my mind and body, but created a community of like-minded yogis of all ages and fitness levels. Island Yoga is simply the best! My sister and I did a private beachfront session with Stephanie (the owner) for my birthday last month! From the initial booking to actually receiving the service, Stephanie was so amazing. Genuine customer service and sos thoughtful throughout all communications. Once we got to the beach the day of, she had everything set up as we went through a 60 min yin yoga class. She was so calming, thorough, and offered great advice for deep stretching. So much so that both my sister and I have begun to incorporate one of the moves into our daily stretching routine. We are fully planning on making this a quarterly event. WORSE yoga studio ever!!!!! The instructor Barbara was the WORST "instructor" I've ever come across in the yoga world. Before class started she asked if I had ever done yoga and I told her I had for 7 years so she put me in the front. Literally 10 seconds in she scolded me and told me I had never done this before and to go to the back of the room. I should have left right there and then to be honest. I continued the class and she kept scolding me throughout the entire class. Not just me but to other people as well. Including a guy that was an instructor over at core power and she even said to him "how would you feel if I went to your class and didn't listen to you". She was horrible! I've been practicing for years and not once have I ever come across a yoga instructor like this. Seeing by other reviews it's happened to others as well. read more

It does not smell like a Bikram studio - that was enough to get me to purchase an annual membership. The studio is tiny but clean, welcoming and convenient. However, the physical space is not what makes a yoga studio; the instructors are the key factor. Coronado Hot Yoga has a wonderful mix of instructors, all of whom have helped to strengthen and grow my practice. I have learned a great deal from Vince, Eric and Mira but Barbara is my absolute favorite. I practice Bikram rather than any other type of yoga because of its intensity and precision. Barbara embodies these qualities. She will intuitively find your edge and push you to it. During her high energy classes she has guided me to epiphanies, provided micro-corrections, told me to stop being lazy and overall has improved my practice beyond measure. All of the CHY instructors are knowledgeable, technically sound and truly compassionate. read more

I've been coming here for months and figured that it was time to write my review. I have been practicing yoga on and off for since 2010, and I first found out about this place by purchasing their groupon. I remember feeling uncertain when I first arrived because it's a fairly small studio (I normally like to hide towards the back of the class), after a couple of classes...I have grown to love practicing yoga towards the front of the class. I have seen a huge improvement in my practice since I have attended this yoga studio. I love the attentiveness from all of the instructors, but feel that I have to share my thoughts on Barbara. First off, I love her style. She is direct, and straight to the point. There are days in which I come in and want to take it easy... One of my favorite comments she would say is "Don't be lazy," because it reminds me that I should practice with "precision and intensity." I like all of her anecdotes and find her hilarious. Another one of my favorite lines that I would hear her say is about not being overly dramatic. I have learned a lot about myself through practicing bikram and I credit a lot of it to this studio. Lastly, the pricing for this studio is much more affordable compared to other studios. If you do their monthly deals, you are guaranteed to pay under 100$ per month. read more

This was my first yoga class ever, honestly I choose this location because it was close by, the yelp reviews were mostly positive and the website said "every class is a beginning class". After 60 minutes of sweating like crazy I felt dizzy, a few more minutes and nausea set in. I had a hard time getting home. Did the whole fluid replacement thing including coconut water. I spent three days getting back to where I felt like myself again. After the class I received an email saying that dizziness, nausea and the feelings of lethargy were normal after your first class. Wish I had known that before my first class, so bad on me of not doing more research before hand. Just a heads up here I don't recommend this class or studio for beginners. read more

If I had to describe each instructor at Coronado Hot Yoga with just one word they would be as follows; Barbra=Discipline; Vince=Spiritual; Eric=Patience Although these are the traits I think of when I consider each of them, these amazing people are by no means lacking in the other traits. Some students prefer one instructor over another because they need discipline or they're seeking a spiritual experience or they simply need a patient leader to guide them through the struggles of each posture. As a beginner, that is how I approached it. (When I say "beginner", I mean a beginner at Coronado Hot Yoga. As far as Bikram Hatha Yoga is concerned, I will always be a beginner). I would be selective as to which class I attended depending on my mood and who the instructor was going to be that day. Now, I've come to realize that I get all these things with every instructor because I can now recognize these things in each of them rather than focusing on the stronger traits my mind perceives. I appreciate they're sincerity and dedication to teaching people how to live a healthier lifestyle or a life without physical pain, anxieties and so much more. After I did the 30 day challenge, I was astounded by the changes in my body and my stress levels. I was less tired by the end of the 30 days. My co-workers noticed I was more easy going. I was actually quite energized and up-beat. The back pain I had suffered from for so many years had practically disappeared. But be patient, it takes a few weeks to really feel the changes taking place. There is a "breaking in" period that may cause some people to give up. Don't give up! If you need physical therapy, consider Hatha Yoga instead. It's far more effective and much more affordable. As far as the studio is concerned, it is much smaller than other studios I've been to. But I really enjoy the intimacy, community, outflowing support from other students and the fact that the instructor is conscience of every person in the room. You will not get lost in the crowd. In addition, you will not find a more affordable studio in San Diego!! Best of luck!! read more

I found this place by purchasing a groupon, 20$ for 20 days I can't say I made it all twenty days but I did make it enough to realize that this place is changing my life, slowly but surely. It's small but I like that I think the instructors can keep a closer eye on students to help make any necessary corrections. This place is very military friendly which I have a deep appreciation for since my husband is military and I am prior military. I recently started a year contract and couldn't be happier, I have never felt better, I have battled and suffered from long term clinical depression and post traumatic stress disorder and I used to believe medication was the only way to find any peace, but this class has definitely changed that for me. This class has improved my confidence, my self esteem, my body, my mood the list can go on and I've only attended maybe 15 classes. I'm a yogi for life. The last part of my review I just want to say to those who have written such ignorant reviews regarding Barbara clearly don't have an appreciation for hard work and discipline, she Is honest and and an incredible teacher she is so inspiring to me, besides the reason to show my body and mind inside and out some love, Barbara is the reason I will continue to go back. I was a little nervous about getting back into yoga, but my experience at Hot & Soul was perfect! Everyone was welcoming and there is such a kind, energetic community at this studio. The instructors make a point to learn your name and needs before class and really tailor the class to you. Each instructor has offered alternative positions, to make it easier and more challenging which really caters to everyone in the class. The studio is very clean and inviting. The owner, Lauren, is an incredible instructor so is Mira :) I even got my parents to try out the studio and now they regularly attend with me! read more

I got a Groupon deal for 20 days of classes and went for most of those days. It was a small studio but I actually ended up enjoying how personable the classes were. The teachers were all great and different, varying by personality--not teachings. Barbra- The most strict and critical teacher out of all of them. She was very efficient, and motivating. Sean- He had a much less assertive and strict vibe. He was very precise in postures and helped you do them correctly, more so than other teachers. Mira- She was very sweet, not strict. I only took a couple of her classes so I can't say much else. Vince (no longer there)- He was my first teacher, and he was great. Very humorous. Overall, I enjoyed all the teachers equally. They took the time to learn your names, fix your postures, give you great advice, etc. I liked this studio however, I do not think I'll continue to do Bikram Hot Yoga because I've done a bit of research into its originator, and didn't quite agree with what I've discovered. However, if you can get past some tidbits of details, this is a great workout, especially since you're in a heated room. Expect to sweat...heavily yet feel great afterwards. read more

Update: You need to go to here. It's been almost two years and I still love it. It's a little community filled with love and support. I have heard horror stories of other yoga studios (too full, people are allowed to walk in late/distracting!!, dirty, etc) and I have none of those experiences to share with you. Do yourself a favor and get the 2 month groupon if you're lucky enough that it's still available...the 20 days is too short to fall in love, trust me. Go as often as you can. Regarding the teachers: they are all so great and offer different things so you can pick who to go to in order to meet your desires. That said, the legendary Lance Mann has taught here and there and let me tell you - if you are lucky to get into his class (they're usually filled up by 45 minutes before class), you won't regret it. Barbra is great, she will make sure you have a great foundation but also push yourself. Karlie and Sean are wonderful as well, fine tuning your practice. LOVE the outdoor classes at Spreckles Park! Fresh air, sunshine, birds chirping and an amazing work out. I love the hot infrared lamps in the studio but if we can't meet there I'll take a canopy of trees and real sunlight. I did the zoom classes during the first shut down and I appreciate how the owner Stephanie has pivoted and kept us all going during this madness! It must be unbelievably stressful to try to keep your business going through all this but all the instructors show up with enthusiasm and a smile for the classes!
