I didn't know what to expect. I booked it because it was on the beach and the pictures looked okay. I should've known better. Everything from the front lobby to the elevators to the rooms were VERY outdated. I was scared of the elevators. They moaned and groaned and made a sudden small "drop" when it first starts moving. At first, I thought the room was cute. But then started noticing the little things. The bed was small, only had 2 pillows (most hotels have 4), the blanket was thin and scratchy. There were fuzzies and hair in the sheets (of the bed and sofa bed). The sofa had stains. We needed it for a bed. The sheets didn't fit. We had to go down to the office and switch them out. The blanket they give you with it is also old and scratchy. Both beds were extremely uncomfortable. The furniture was oddly placed. The bed against one wall, so one of us had to climb in from one side or the end of the bed. That wall also contained two small (dirty) windows. The dresser/TV stand was on another wall completely covering a window. (I know there wasn't an ocean view, but found it weird.) The kitchenette and bathroom were ok. Outdated, but ok. The floors were disgusting. Once shoes were off, our socks were black. I threw them out when we got home. It was hard to sleep at night. There was a clock that ticked. Who has that kind of clock anymore? I didn't want to yank out the batteries or anything because I didn't want to be accused of breaking it. But trying to sleep with the "tick tock clock" drove me nuts! Then there was the fighting. Not something the hotel could control. But there was a couple fighting in another room on the floor and it was getting intense. We were walking down the hall and hurried into our room. Thankfully, we were only really there to sleep. I asked my family if they wanted to go to another hotel but they didn't want me to waste my money. We won't be back. read more

We come down once or twice a year, from one week to three weeks per year. We simply love the people and the place. I've stayed elsewhere in NSB, but moving forward ,this is the only place I want to stay. The amenities are simple ( pool, hot tub, pool table, bingo) but the location is perfect and the people that work there are simply the best! Feels like going home, when we arrive! read more

I've been going to the Islander Beach Resort for over 20 years. It's right on the beach and has the largest pool in the area. They offer pool activities for the kids each morning (Sun-Thu) and afternoon crafts (for a small charge). The resort is also right next door to a beachside tiki bar which has amazing grouper sandwiches and daily drink specials. The rooms are a bit outdated and at times, feel dirty. But how often are you in the room? We'll continue coming back for the foreseeable future. read more

This is my third stay at the Islander, and we love it here! We have stayed in the studio and one bedroom units, and the absolutely best views of the beach anywhere is what merits the five star review. It's a beautiful view, even in inclement weather! The bed is positioned alongside the triple picture window, and when you pull the blinds up, the view is mesmerized. The pool is warm, so I think it's heated, and there is an adult hot tub area with lounge chairs and tables with umbrellas, no kids! This place might be old, unit 318 is updated with flat screen tvs, full kitchen, nice beachy pictures and decor. We have always experienced courteous and friendly staff, but we are not demanding. There are activities going on every day, like hot dog and hamburger cookout and bingo by the pool. The beach is beautiful! We'll continue to stay here. read more

Initially we were quite happy with the Islander. Sure its a bit older but the updates seem adequate. The problems started when we sat down with a rep for Capital Vacations, who we understand manage the hotel now. We agreed to participate in a presentation regarding basically a "time share" arrangement. They requested a $20 deposit with the promise of a $150.00 gift card at the end of the presentation. After sitting through this, and making it home, we have tried on 6 separate occasions to use the card.. All said not authorized. After numerous calls to Capital Vacations, we're still out our cash and the gift card funds. I honestly wish I could say how much we enjoyed the resort but, after all is said and done, the people that run this place have ruined it forever. If you go, avoid any connections with Capital Vacations. I encourage you to read the reviews on the BBB website. read more

I was so happy to randomly hear about this resort while planning a visit to New Smyrna Beach for a wedding. Technically its a timeshare but they do rent rooms with a 2 night minimum stay. There were 3 of us and we were in a Deluxe Oceanview Room (I think all rooms have balconies). It had a bedroom with queen bed, a pull-out sofa and a Murphy bed.. So that worked out great for us. There was also a small table with chairs, and full kitchen including dishwasher, toaster, microwave, oven and fridge. There aren't a lot of restaurants and food offerings within the immediate area, so having a kitchen and being able to bring your own food really works here. $140 a night and considering they are right on the beach, what a great deal! The location makes up for the fact that they are a bit of an older property.. The furniture and decor is not very modern or attractive. I do wish they would make some small upgrades soon such as USB ports in the rooms, a k-cup instead of a standard coffee maker, bigger/better quality towels and new chairs at the pool. Speaking of the pool, it's a really great size and there are lots of chairs as well. I think even during peak times you wouldn't have trouble finding a spot, except depending on the time of day about half of the chairs are in the shade. They also have some tables with umbrellas around the pool area, a bigger "family" hot tub and a smaller adult only hot tub which is a great spot at night. Plus private access to the beach! They have a community room and it appears that depending on when you come they offer some different activities for additional costs, such as bingo and even a comedy show. It seems like this would also be a place where they could have some type of food offering.. I'm not sure if they used to have any kind of continental breakfast or snack bar and it's now just not being offered due to covid?? We found out about halfway through our stay that there is a tiki bar located at the place next door which was convenient. I wish they would have told us about that when we checked in. It's certainly nice to be able to bring your own cooler with drinks down to the pool, but it would be better if they had some food options as well. My husband and I stayed at the Islander May 9-16, 2015. We booked our unit through RCI exchange. The property is a little bit older, but it is well kept. The staff was very friendly and informative. We booked a studio unit that slept 4. We were assigned unit 209. I was pleasantly surprised when seeing the unit. Being an RCI unit I expected to have the smallest unit with the worst view, but it was far from the case. We were given a Deluxe studio with ocean view. The unit had a wall of blinder doors dividing the living room and sleeping area giving the allusion of having a private bedroom. It was fantastic. I was able to wake up early in the morning, close the blinders and enjoy my coffee and morning TV in the living room without disturbing my sleeping husband. They do have standard studio units that have no dividers and just a Murphy bed, so this was by no means a guarantee for the studio option. They did have some big rusty storage containers parked outside our window that were a giant eye sore, but at least I could see the beautiful ocean beyond that. We had a full, well equipped kitchen. The unit was very clean upon check in. They did have an older, hard, worn out mattress on the bed and dingy old fashioned bed spread, but I was expecting that and brought my own comforter. The sheets and pillows were clean and up to par. Everything was nicely appointed. We had 2 flat screen TVs in the unit, though I must say the functionality of the remote receivers and cable box left much to be desired. Sometimes the receiver would pick up the remote signal and sometimes it wouldn't. Sometimes we could change the channel and sometimes we couldn't. They also had the cable box Velcro-ed to the back of the TV and it kept falling off. There was a DVD player in the living area, so that was nice to be able to hit up the Redbox at Publix. Free Wi-fi in the unit, but you have to re-enter the password constantly. The units are not non-smoking. If you have sensitivity to cigarette smoke I do not recommend this property. Our room did not smell like smoke, but there were ashtrays available in the room. No balcony so anyone who smokes it hot boxing. The halls and stairway smelled highly of cigarette smoke. The pool area was very nice, large seating area with plenty of lounge chairs and sun umbrellas. They have a kiddie pool and hot tub, too. Beachfront location couldn't be beat. Just a short drive to Flagler Ave or a shot down to Canaveral National Seashore in the opposite direction. They were a little pushy about getting you into their timeshare pitch. Even after I told them I worked for their fulfillment company and didn't qualify they still called me in my room a second time to ask us to join. Luckily after the second "no thank you" they go the message. Pleasantly we did receive a complimentary mid-week cleaning which is not common for timeshares. Not a full cleaning but they offered towel replacements, trash take out etc. This property definitely caters to an older crowd. My husband and I in our 30s were the youngest guests we saw by at least 30 years, though there were families there during the day who may have been visiting the grandparents. It was odd but made for a quiet vacation. They do also have a small game room with air hockey and arcade games as well as a fitness room. I did not use either. The spa on site was very nice. We enjoyed pedicures on Friday when it was too overcast to be outside. There is a tiki bar next door and other options down on Flagler for those times we wanted to get a little more rowdy. I normally don't review places like hotels on Yelp, but since it was my first big girl vacation to a destination other than the Jersey Shore, I figured I'd share my experience. Expected this to be kinda outdated based on reviews I read before booking it but was pleasantly surprised with the low-key, relaxed, beachy feel our room had. The setup was nice and the balcony overlooked the pool and the ocean, which was a huge plus. Bedroom was pretty big. Bathroom was kinda small but for two people, I don't think it's a big deal. Overall it was very clean, had friendly workers, and the daily activities at the pool (ice cream sundaes, tie-die shirts, pool volleyball) were a nice added touch. Crowd had a nice mix of people, though I think we were definitely the only 23-year-olds. Surprisingly a great deal of nightlife in the area and I wish I knew about it sooner, but the Islander is in a great neighborhood that has everything you need from supermarkets to gas stations to cute little seafood restaurants. Plus, you can drink poolside. :) We'll be back again. read more

Great resort with a great view of the beach. The pool is awesome at 10 feet deep. You have areas to rent beach chairs and umbrellas. The staff is really polite and handful. Right next door is a cool Tiki Bar, with tons of drinks and food to pick at all day. So enjoy the sand, have a drink, and enjoy the water. read more

AVOID staying here - My family and I stayed one night and my significant other rec'd BED BUGS while sleeping on the Murphy bed. We stayed on the first floor in the handicap accessible room. All bad reviews are correct - this hotel is outdated and not worth ANY costs. Rooms seemed dirty and dingy. I travel frequently and always look for the best price at decent locations. This place 'seemed' to be it but I will NEVER stay again. I'm in complete horror in regards to what happened and beyond disgusted. read more

This is our family destination each year at Christmas and we love it. There is family and adult only hot tubs, and the pool is heated. The pool has a 10ft deep end which is great for my tall husband. There are daily activities and the lobby is decorated nicely. I love the glass window wall showing the beach, and the balconies are perfect. The Islander has been a part of my life as far back as I can remember. My parents became timeshare owners with them when we first moved to Orlando (I was about 5) and since then...we've been vacationing, as well as enjoying day trips there when we went to New Smyrna Beach. Rooms - they start at studios and go up to two bedrooms. They are "beach themed", as most beach resorts/timeshares are. Every room I have stayed in has been very comfortable and clean. Pool/jacuzzi - pool is pretty big (including volleyball net and basketball hoops) and there are two jacuzzis (one that is smaller and also adult only, which is nice since the large one is usually full of kids). :) Amenities - spa, restaurant/bar, game room (including pool table, air hockey and video games), gym (small, but there's at least 6 pieces of equipment and a tv). Overall...I have loved coming here for vacation, as well as for the day my entire life. Next time you're in New Smryna...you should give them a look. read more

These are the rudest people i've ever encountered. Me and my friends were taking pictures in front of the resort in our bathing suits because we were at the BEACH and a lady comes out saying we cannot take pictures and that they have a "no thong" policy. We were wearing regular bathing suits and doing nothing wrong not bothering anyone when we were kicked off of their property as if we were doing something wrong. Please don't bring your family here!!! They are very rude. read more

This place gets one star because it's easy to find. We booked a room exchanging our prime week in Aruba for a room here. What we got was a cramped space with a Murphy bed when a king bed was advertised. The room overlooked a beautiful parking lot, at least what you could see through the dirty windows. Especially bad was the staff who made it perfectly clear that they could not care whether we stayed or not. Luckily, we did not fly, so we were able to return home the same day. This resort is right on the beach. It is a beautiful beach The staff are very pleasant and the place is kept very clean. It is very dated and old. I was in room 315 and the bed was very small, smaller than a queen size and I really wouldn't call it a bed. I would call it a cot. It was very uncomfortable and some of the walls had horrible spackling and paint jobs. I gave it three stars because it was so dated. read more

The rooms range from a studio-type to a two bedroom. I've typically been with my husband's family staying in a one bedroom, rooming old-school on the air mattress we brought or on the Murphy bed in the living room. This year my husband and I got our own room (oh thank god...) and we had one of the studio-apartment style rooms facing the ocean. It was wonderful! The "bedroom" had privacy pocket doors for our sleeping at night separate from the pull-out bed where our little girl slept. The view was wonderful, of course. The kitchenette was adequately equipped and more was available from housekeeping (i.e, I wanted to use a slow-cooker for a meal and they have one you can 'check out' while you're there). The staff are courteous and helpful. The amenities are very nice. The pool is nice and big, the pool deck has lots of lounge chairs, there are several tables with chairs and umbrellas. There are two hot tubs, and a small outdoor kids play area as well. There are some fun little activities on different days: tie-dye shirts, hot dogs on the grill, make-your-own sundae, Wii bowling inside, Bingo... Best activity is lying on a lounge chair and doing nothing at all, as far as I'm concerned. I love it here, time-share vacationing at its best. Been coming here for years, will be coming here for many many more. read more

We exchanged our week to come here. It is an old resort, but kept up for the most part. We stayed in a studio, It was clean and well maintained, that was a plus! The beach is a beautiful, however we didn't know that you can drive on the beach. With small children, it is frustrating to have to worry about vehicles driving on the beach. When I stay at a resort I would expect to have some sort of reserve on the beach, not here. read more

Don't waste your weekend, Time & Money. They replaced our A/C twice on the first day. Woke up at 5 am sweating with a room temp of 79 Deg. The complete Hotel ( Resort it is not) is very out dated. Old Tube TV in Master. The Pull out couch bed was so bad our kids were complaining. Bath room had hair in the corners of the floor. Needless to say we checked out after only a one night stay. They wouldn't give us a refund. I personally didn't care, just wanted to go home. read more

I've been coming to the Islander for over 30 years. Very kid friendly. The have games everyday for the kids. They also play poolside bingo for both adults and kids. They cook Hamburg's and hot dogs on the grill which makes it very convenient. They do ice cream sundaes by the pool, my kids love it. Located right on the beach and within walking distance to everything. Although the building is a little outdated they have updates the rooms with new bathrooms and TVs. Poor customer service. My husband and I stayed Saturday to Saturday in august 2017. I had to have emergency ectopic pregnancy surgery and was discharged from the hospital on Friday. Requested extra pillows (only four in a room that supposedly sleeps 3-4?!) which took over three hours. Also requested a later check out of just 2 hours and they refused even after explanation. Have a heart. We just lost our first pregnancy ten hours away from home and I'm recovering from surgery. Cold. I was told this wasn't really busy season either. Will most definitely not recommend. read more

First time at Islander... Was pleasantly surprised since expecting it to be outdated, etc.. For one night only our price was great ! We got 2 beds/2 baths, etc. the decor was up to date and VERY nice, tastefully done. Loved the bed I. The glassed in porch overlooking the ocean...three flat screen tv's, nice kitchen small dining area, lg. Separate bedroom w/bathroom. Close to town and activities. No restaurant but some closeby. Didn't get to the pool area but it looked nice! We definitely want to come back! The elevators are a pain, small and hard if you have one of their small carts, but back when this was built it was probably adequate... Our room (deluxe 1bdrm, ocean view) would have been great for 2 couples or a family, definitely recommend it! read more
