I ordered berry bushes in October for spring delivery, but half of my order never arrived. In April, I received a mailed letter saying the items were out of stock and that I needed to contact them myself to request a refund. How does a company run out of stock on items that were ordered more than six months in advance? I spent a significant amount of money and time preparing new berry beds based on this order. They never sent an email or gave any advance notice, which would have at least given me time to order from another nursery before the planting season. Now I'm stuck with the cost of preparing the beds, still waiting on a refund, and dealing with poor customer service that's difficult to reach. The first batch of my strawberry order was not so good as 45 of the 50 Eversweet Strawberry plants did not take. After several conversations with Ison's they agreed to replace the berries. The new batch appears to be taking well with all but two showing signs of life after 3 days in the ground. Communication with them has been spotty, but in the end, they stood behind their product. read more

The lack of communication is beyond comprehension. Who is working this area?? I ordered over $700 total worth of plants and some were bad as they never grew. They send you bare rooted plants and stick them together in a small tall box. The muscadine package had two vines that never grew. The twigged and snapped after 3 months of planting where the others grew well. I contacted them via email as they requested, and they send a blanket response back indicating to the generic test of whether they are totally dead (scratch the base of trunk, etc.) well, I sent them photos and the scratch test as they were as hard as stone and dry as a bone. No response. Crickets. It has been 4 days since the last email. Total communication going on two weeks. Wouldn't it just be more of a time saver if they believed me and took my photos and videos as evidence and sent me a replacement, then waste their and my time? I don't think I will ever purchase from them again nor recommend them. read more

My wife and I stopped by on our way from Florida to our home in NW Georgia. We took a small detour from our I75 route near Macon and were so glad we did. We got some great pointers from Greg and his sister that runs the place. I'm the past I've always protected my new trees from antler rubs without thinking about deer 'browsing' the new leaves and breaking branches. So this year I'm taking their advice and using a wire barrier. Walked out with 3 bare root apple trees and 2 cherry trees. They wrapped them up nicely to ride in the back of our pickup truck. It appeared to be a simple family operation. I liked them. These are good honest people with a lifetime of experience that enjoy sharing their knowledge. read more

I was looking for some Muscadine Vines and Fig Trees. From the Ison Website, it appeared they had a large variety of vines and trees and some great videos on planting and care to the vines. I contacted Ison Nursery and they were very helpful in selection of two varieties of Vines and a Fig Tree. The was it...sale only. After planting the Vines and carefully caring for them per the videos, the vines did not appear to be growing as expected or led to believe. I sent pictures and emails to Ison Nursery and received no response. I continued to monitor the vines. One developed 2 leaves and that was all. The other began a runner that grew to about 24" with leaves. I had inquired about trimming the main vine as it appeared to be dead and the new growth was from the base of the vines. No response. Now about 4 months into growth, both vines appear to be dead. Leaves brown and falling off. Again, contacting Ison Nursery by email with pictures to ask if I should watch and do nothing, cut the dead vines off or cut the vines at the base hoping they will come back next year. Again, nothing from Ison Nursery. I have planted lots of bushes, vegetables and trees with no problems. The vines had a very small root ball. All sales and no service. read more

I live in AZ and the weather is turning hot very quickly. I asked them to ship earlier, they agreed but then more than one week passed, nothing. No shipment, no response. I emailed several times again, still no response at all. Then I emailed again telling them I have to cancel the order if they cannot ship soon due to the hot weather. Guess what? They immediately cancelled my order. They actually read your email they just don't respond! They choose what to respond what not to. By the way, one of the asparagus I bought earlier from them is very poor and doesn't sprout at all, I told them and even asked them to ship another one together with the new order, again, NO response at all! If buyers want to suffer processes like this, then go ahead and do biz with them, and good luck. read more

Everything I get from Ison's has been much better quality than I get from almost anyone else. it's been consistent too. Never a problem. I had a long question about growing Muscadines I sent them once and was delighted to receive a thoughtful and detailed answer from the owner himself. Really great outfit all the way around. Ordered 3 trees second of October. Paid up front. Got them Apr 19th, and opened them the next day. I have two trees, and a paper that says I can ask for a refund on the third or "reserve it for next season." How generous. At any point in the past two or three weeks, I'm sure they could have figured out that their tree was out of stock, and contacted me, allowing me to, 1) exchange the tree for another they do have in stock (I'd still have been upset, but at least I wouldn't have been paying twenty-some dollars shipping for two trees), 2) cancel the order (which is frankly what I probably would have done, since the Dolgo crabapple was most of my reason for making the order). or 3) get the partial refund. But sending the trees with no explanation or warning allows them to make more money, since now that they're here, I technically received part of my order and can't send them back. If you can't fulfill your obligations, give me more options, and let me know ASAP (not after I've got grafts for it, for instance). This is a shady, manipulative business practice, and I won't be ordering from them again. Not that that helps. What does some lost business from a small timer really cost them anyway? 2 stars because both trees look healthy. I wish I'd seen the 2.2 star average before ordering. read more

Ordered Blueberries, I received weak plants, it's still trying to give out leaves after severals weeks now but they were grown in a sad state from whatever source it came from so for the rest that survived will be a fight for survival rest of the year. Half are dead now! been growing blueberries for 7 years, I have ordered in all season even in 100 temp from other nursery. Will order somewhere else next time! read more

I live in South Florida zone 10A. In August 2022 I ordered various trees, including two low chill cherry trees, Royal crimson And Minnie Royal. These were delivered in April 2023. Both trees looked ok, but did not leaf out. I figured they would leaf out later since they were delivered bare-root. A couple of months later, I noticed that Minnie Royal had a split in its stem starting from the graft area to the ground. At this time, I was worried and called them and received an article telling me of research that showed that that was normal and I should treat it a certain way. By now, it was too late to return the trees, I was told. They still have no leaves and I think they are dead. I am writing this so people know not to buy from this nursery (which, unfortunately, I did not do). I have ordered trees from another nursery and am waiting for them to be delivered. read more

I recently purchased a number of items from Isons. The strawberries were great. Put them in water overnight and within 24 hours they were sending out green shoots! The blackberries were a mixed bag. One revived within days. The other shows no signs of life. The black raspberry plant also appears to be dead. All three were planted under identical conditions. So no problem with strawberries, 50% dead blackberries. 100% dead raspberry. But that's not why they're a 1-star company. At the time I ordered, I cited a 15% offer that was ON THEIR FACEBOOK PAGE AT THE TIME I ORDERED. But when I tried to claim the discount at checkout, it wouldn't work. So I attached a note pointing out that they had the ad on their Facebook page and I was claiming it. I heard nothing from them. When my order arrived, there was a note that the advertisement was an "old" ad and they weren't honoring it. (From 2013!!) But my position is that if a company advertises a discount TODAY they better honor it TODAY. If the ad was from 2013, that means they had 10 YEARS to take it down and didn't do it!!! (I noticed after my inquiry, it had been removed.) I wrote to them saying I thought I was entitled to the discount. It was what they were advertising at the time I placed my order. I said they should "do the right thing". Apparently the "right thing" to them is to advertise a discount, not honor it, and when called on their dishonesty, keep the money and not respond. I rate them a "shady dealer" for this reason, and shady dealers are entitled to ZERO stars. If you like being ripped off and ignored, this is the business for YOU! read more

I was surprised to see some of the reviews so wanted to share my experience with Ison's. We planted a large number of muscadine plants we purchased at Ison's. We got Carlos and Noble varieties. We planted in the Spring of '23. Even though we had a rather dry summer and do not have irrigation most of the plants survived and thrived. We even got some grapes- which we did not expect. They helped decide which plants to install. I received friendly service when picking up the plants. I was able to get help and advice almost immediately any time I asked. I would confidently refer anyone to Ison's for anything they offer but have only had experience with muscadines. read more

I just want to add an update here because I have placed additional orders with Ison's after my Hardy Kiwi review.  I want to make sure I am giving a complete picture. The other plants I've ordered from Ison's have included muscadines (for which they are well known).  These arrived in good shape and I planted them out in fabric pots to start.  They grew great year 1, after which was a challenging winter that I was sure had killed them, having planted them into ground late winter.  No leaf out in April as expected.  However, the plants put out shoots in late June to my surprise.  They had survived.  So, it's hard to say what's going on here.  Zone mismatch, erratic spring temps, etc.  Life finds a way, I guess. Ison's plants did pull through, and we'll see how they do over the years. I just want to give everything a fair chance, and I'll keep my fingers crossed that the muscadines make it. read more

This used to be such a good nursery not too long ago. Now they do not have a customer service, they do not anser the phone etc. Now isons is a disaster. I placed an order in Feb 2022 when they stated that they have all the trees ordered. After more than 2 months they sent me one tree that looks dead, a sold-out notice, and want to refund only the price of the other trees. In other words if I want to rebuy the trees I have to repay shippment fees. Avoid! read more

I called them in late April to inquire since every other nursery had shipped, after they ignored a voicemail. The woman who answered the phone said "I think Virginia is shipping this week", and then the call cut off. The shipment arrived the following week poorly packed and damaged with a note that the strawberries were out of stock (ordered three months earlier!!!) and I would have to call, fax or email to get a refund. I ordered a particular variety of blackberries and they arrived on time and fine. I planted in the pre prepped area and they grew fine for a year then began to fruit. It was then that I realized that the plants I ordered were not what I received. I called several times to see what remedy I could get but every time I got an excuse as to why the berries were not performing as they should as to growth type and fruiting. After the 5th time I contacted the developer of the type of berry they were supposed to be and he said that I was correct and those were not his developed berry. With this information in hand and dropping the developers name they offered me a refund, less shipping, or new plants the next year. This whole process played out over 6 months because they don't like to answer the phone and never returned my calls. I chose the refund, poisoned the plants, mowed them down, and plowed them under while waiting on new plants from another nursery that arrived correctly. I lost 2 years of growth due to this mistake at first, then refusal to admit the mistake. Since then I have bought many orders of plants from the second nursery with only one issue that they admitted was their problem and quickly replaced the plants with extras. I would never buy from Ison's again. Zero customer service after the sale. read more

I have been doing business with Isons for three years now. Never have I had a problem. I've ordered muscadines and blackberry plants. Received them in great shape ,planted them and they all thrive in this Tennessee clay. There customer service is beyond great. Friendly and knowledgeable is an understatement. I learned 99% of what I needed to know from Greg Isons u tube videos on muscadines. Haven't found a better place for all my plant and Vines than Ison's. I thank them. read more

They do not answer the phone and the response to emails is not in a timely manner. The responses I did receive were either it wasn't the right time to ship, or that it would begin shipping in January.... last response said we will get that right out... still nothing. read more

As with many other customers, based on the reviews, my experience with Ison's was terrible. I ordered 5 plants, after many months, they sent me one. When I emailed them to explain, they told me that I didn't look hard enough in the box. (They obviously hadn't read my email). I wrote back to explain that I had already planted the one plant and there weren't other plants in the box. Then they said they'd send the rest to me within the week. A few weeks later, I received one more plant. I wrote them and told them that there were still three plants. They sent me one of the same plants they had already. I wrote them again, no response. I waited a week and wrote again, no response. Now we are getting into a season where it won't be healthy to plant new plants and get them established (because of the heat). Plus, they didn't send me a male kiwi that is necessary for the female kiwi they did send to produce fruit. Their incompetent customer service is nothing short of theft. Give another, more worthy organization your business and save yourself the hassle. read more

We have ordered multiple times form Isons - Old family nursery and people are always pleasant to do business with and very informative - they have great videos for the prep and care of fruit plantings. We have only lost two grape plants out of many and it was due to it being a new plant and temperature went to ZERO for a extended period. Thats a very low temp for a new plant to survive. We called and they replaced them with no problems. Can't believe there are negatives we have had just the opposite experience. read more

I ordered three Ponca blackberry plants and one 2 year 5'+ Sugargate Grape plant. I paid for 2nd day express shipping. The plants arrived 8 days after i was notified that they shipped, 6 days sitting in the post-office waiting for paperwork. When the plants arrived we got two Ponca and a stick. Two first year Sugargate approximately 12 inches tall. Definitely not what I expected. read more

There have been a few negative reviews on here as well as other sites. I'd like to add my experience. . . I ordered 8 'instant orchard' fruit trees as well as 2 regular trees and I picked them up in late January or early February 2015 (10 total). The instant orchard are EXPENSIVE at almost $60 each. And I would have thought they would be a little bit bigger but they were still NICE looking trees. Let's be honest . . . a dormant bare root fruit tree is NOT SEXY to look at!!! I'm fortunate to live about 25 mins away from Ison's so my trees were all in the ground within 24-48 hours of picking them up. It is now almost 2 years later and these trees are the best looking one's I have planted. I have planted a total of 50 trees in the last 2 years. These Ison instant orchard trees have a 100% survival rate. I have planted 30 fruit trees and 10 chestnut trees from other nurseries. I have lost 6 apple trees and 9 chestnut trees from the other plantings. That's almost a 40% failure rate. I'm a novice grower and I think I overwatered the 6 apple trees that died. They were the smallest of the 30 fruit trees that I planted. The chestnut trees were attacked by some 'bug'. I wasn't paying as close of attention as I should have to them and noticed it too late. I probably would be approaching 80-90% survival if I was a better gardener! Overall I have enjoyed planting fruit and nut trees and have had PHENOMENAL success especially when compared to my experience (hardly ANY)!!! I plan on ordering a BUNCH of muscadine vines from them in the spring and will most likely order other items from them in the future. I have found a couple of other sources for quality trees that are a good bit cheaper and are still within a 90 minute drive of the house. When I spend several hundred $$ I like to pickup my order. Highly recommend staying away from this company! After ordering two apple trees from this company and not receiving them, we finally called. The response was,"Oh, we don't have those". They had no problem taking our payment and now seem to be impossible to contact. Nobody will return calls and do not seem to be anxious to remedy their lack of product (they sold us, and didn't even have). Extremely poor business practices going on over there. I order 2 tree from Ison 0n 2014, after about 2 months received 2 branch of who knows what, so I called I was told to wait, they will grow, nothing, so I called back after 2 months , was told to wait, so I called after 4 months and told them what was happening, I was told the shipping time was over and I had to wait till 2015, then The insult, when I received an invoice for $32.94 for coast of replacement, which again I agreed, well It is 2016, and nothing, they are almost impossible to contact, may be they know what kind of junk they are selling. I live not far from this nursery. I have found them to be very helpful and knowledgeable about their plants. Today I went to get one of those combo pear trees. Each tree is supposed to have 4 types of pears. One only had 3 so they gave it to me with a good tree. They were not able to ship that one out. I felt so blessed !!! Great Products as usual We live in Alabama and drive over to Ison's Nursery to buy items because we know how good the product and the people are. Started buying there in 2008 after several poor purchases at our local big box store. We have purchased their muscadine plants and they are all thriving and producing. Also purchased many fruit and nut trees as well as many other items. Everything has done great and the customer service is wonderful. We are happy to recommend. read more

I've ordered from this nursery several times in the past few years. I have not been disappointed. The muscadine vines I ordered last spring came in the time frame promised. I planted and cared for them according to Ison's instructions that came with the vines and provided by the nursery at their website (great videos). I've ordered apple, peach and pear trees and all have met my expectations. The blackberries I ordered arrived a month ago. They were very much larger than ones I have seen from a large nursery in the midwest. I have told many friends about Ison's and will continue to do so.
