First time at this Italian bakery and I was impressed with the amount of baked goods they had. They had a lot of choices to choose from. My family could not eat a frozen tortellini product, it tasted like the meat inside had gone bad. I called about the store's return policy and was met with a rude and defensive reaction from a manager.I was told the problem must be with my family. Dumb way to lose a customer. Lots of parking on Sunday at 9:30AM but the line up for the pastry/bakery counter was 7 people long. 5 person line at the tills. Since the line for bakery/pastry was so long we opted for the cookie isle instead. When passing through I did see all the delicious cheeses available! Such a large variety and I saw my favorite Bellavitano espresso and Beer cheese from The Cheese Factory on Whyte. Sooooo many choices but this time we tried the Dutch Traditions Apple Cakes. They were good. Soft pastry/cookie with moist apple filling. Very filling. Overall will be back for sure as there is sooo much to try and they stock some of my favorites! read more

I was at this store last Friday 10:30am to specifically pick up sandwiches for myself and two others. I took them home and put them in the fridge. We went to eat those sandwiches at noon and we were shocked to see the buns were completely dried as was the cheese. The mayonnaise was discoloured. These sandwiches were at least 24 hours old if not older. They were definitely not fit to eat. In comparison to the bigger stores in Edmonton, this one misses the mark completely read more

Unfortunately, I've been underwhelmed with the new mini Italian Bakery in St. Albert. We've visited half a dozen times and they've been out of more than 1/2 the Bakery options (my daughter still hasn't gotten to try their long johns - someday, lol). The size of this location is about 1/3 of their full size Edmonton location but still carries a significant amount of Italian must haves. I have literally waited more than 15 minutes in he meat/cheese deli area when I was the 3rd person in line (with lots of staff working the slicers just not for us - maybe a large order called in or for the store but still super weird and poor customer service). Worth visiting here - house made sauces, fresh pasta, and frozen section featuring local gelato! And if you've ever purchased one of their house Italian sub sandwiches, you've had my beloved Avjar spread. It's a red sauce from roasted peppers and spices that is to die for! I always buy this and it lasts for months and months in the fridge if for some reason you don't eat it fast enough. We like the spicy one with basil, provolone, and assorted Italian deli meats on a fresh baguette brushed with olive oil & oregano. Hoping things will improve as the staff here get the swing of things. A 3 Star - A okay overall. read more

I love this place. I could spend hours walking the store and seeing all the varieties of oils, vinegars, pastas, olives, meats and cheese and so much more. The bakery is amazing. The cakes, pastries and breads they make all look stunning and the ones I've had taste delicious. I'm impressed with the prices of the baked goods everything is reasonable. This place has eye-appeal. The staff are friendly and able to help you out. They have beautiful produce and goodies. You can eat at the cafe inside and I have yet to eat there but I have heard their sandwiches and pizza are wonderful. I've had their cappuccinos and have always been satisfied. read more

It is all about dem meats! And fresh pastas! Love stopping in here to oogle the cake/pastry display too. Mercato is tucked into the shops at Bordreau with other boutique style businesses. There is an amazing meat counter where you can get all you need to build the charcuterie board of your dreams as well as a cooler with fresh pasta and sauces, oh yes and alfredo! The store also hastons of other drinks, dry goods that you cannot find in the other grocery stores as well as a place to get a goid coffee. It can get a little busy and it is a bit tight in the store so just be ready and be patient! read more

Mercato's cappuccinos are the best! I appreciate that they have takeout paper cups not made from plant-based materials, which can cause an allergic reaction in some people. Their staff are friendly, as is the atmosphere of the store. They have many tempting sandwiches, pastries, and gelatos to chose from in their bakery. Plus, a great selection of foods to make your favourite pasta dishes. I'm pleased to see that Mercato is carrying some organic products too. read more

A co-worker told me about this place which opened up a few months ago. It is located in a newer shopping area of St. Albert. amongst other businesses. There was plenty of parking and not too busy at lunchtime. We decided to check it out so we could try the sandwiches and of course, Italian desserts! Since we only had time to go in to grab lunch, I didn't have the chance to walk around however, the bakery section was amazing! It was fully stocked but I heard if you go later in the day there will not be much left. The doughnuts were big with different toppings/sprinkles and only $1 compared to Safeway or Tim Hortons. There were three kinds of cannolis to choose from, original, chocolate chip and mocha. The filling is so smooth tasting and not overly sweet. There's also fresh buns and bread. They have fresh pasta and sauces available along with fresh produce and deli meat. I'll be back to try more items when I more time! read more

This place has everything you'd expect from specialty Italian delicatessen. The bakery had a large variety of sweets to offer. I bought a dozen assorted items. They were all great but my favourite was the blueberry lemon cake. Do not pass up if they have it. Sooo good. The deli has a large variety of cheese and processed meats to choose from. Even though they were busy I was served quickly. The fresh produce looked nice but I did notice that you definitely are going to be paying a premium price for most things so I suggest you stick to buying those specialty items that you may not find at super store. Mercato is finally open!! I'm very excited to have an Italian grocery store and bakery so close to my house. My family decided to stop by here on Saturday afternoon. Mercato has just opened and it was SOOOOOO busy! I'm so happy to see a St. Albert business doing so well. This is gonna be so awesome as Mercato is within walking distance to my house. Even though Mercato was very busy, there was plenty of parking in the lot as long as you don't mind a short walk. Shops on Boudreau are a pretty sweet new group of restaurants and businesses. We grabbed a couple of spice Italian sub sandwiches to go as well as a couple of chocolate croissants for desert. I chose a spicy and my wife chose the mild sandwich. We also got a couple of chocolate cannolis that I may have enjoyed shortly after we got home ;-). We had our two young children with us so we didn't spend too much time wandering. I did however notice the prices were actually pretty good. A loaf of white bread is priced forty cents lower at the Italian Bakery than Safeway! And in my opinion the bread is twice as good!! We also got some salami for a better price than the grocery store. The selection of deli meats is AWESOME!!! The cheese, the meat,,,oh my!! They were offering samples of cheese that the customers appreciated. There are A LOT of new staff it seems that have a bit of learning to do but overall I am so excited for this new business. I can only see this place getting better and only see it getting more busy as the word gets out about how awesome this place is with all the great grocery items and an AWESOME Italian bakery!! read more

Every time we've come here to the bakery we've been greeted with a great smile and service, even when they are busy. But to offset that they always seem to have enough staff on hand to help you. What can I say, their doughnuts are the thing that drives us in the door, they are marvellous and just as reasonably priced compared to those par-baked Tim's doughnuts (if you can call them such still... gosh miss those old days)... anyhow these doughnuts are the best and everyone seems to know it which is why you need to go early to get them. That said, when we have gone late and missed out their cakes are amazing too. We've tried a few and even their individual ones. Again reasonably priced. Recommended. Oh, and the rest of their store is a great source for some of those hard to come by items not sold in the big chains. read more

For this review I'm specifically commenting on the bakery section of the store. There is an awesome selection of delicious baked treats here. From turnovers, pies, doughnuts, cakes, tarts and cannolis, you can probably find something to suite your craving. It can be hard to decide because there is a lot to choose from. I feel like the prices seem a tad pricey but you definitely pay for the quality you get. These aren't your average grocery store baked goods. I tried the Tiramisu and carrot cake. I found the these cakes not to be too sweet, which is a good thing in my opinion. The flavours were amazing! These would be wonderful little treats to give to friends and families for special occasions. read more

I have seen the employees collecting cash and serving food without washing their hands or changing their gloves. Cash is handed same Time sandwiches from the fridge to heat without changing gloves or even washing their hands. Bakery is the same seeing long nails touching the pastries, please consider wearing gloves.... Wash your hands between servicing other client. read more

Once a month or so, I meet my sister for dinner at BUCO - which is right across from MERCATO . Every time we finish, we drop in MERCATO to find some goodies. The selection of baked breads and pastries is enough to make you want to buy one of each. The tiramisu is pretty good and is one of my favorite desserts or anything with apple in it... you got my heart if you ever buy me one of those. The grocery store is small but very well stocked with everything you need for any Italian meal you want to make. What I really go after is their olive oil and flour- nothing beats Italian products. They also have a frozen meal section in the freezers - I was a bit overwhelmed when I saw how much was in there.. and they do sell a lot of it. Precooked pasta !!! All those plastic containers ! Overall the store is clean and well organized. Not much staff around though except in the deli and bakery and a cashier. read more

A smaller version of the Italian centre located in St Albert. Easy to get to with parking available right in front of the bakery. I love it- the bakery display cases are packed with delicious freshly baked that day in the store sweets, eclairs, cannelloni, cakes, etc. The coffee shop has seating for the customers to sit and enjoy their sandwich or latte with dessert. Similar to other Italian stores, there is a lot of deli meat, cheese, olives; fresh produce, frozen food, bottled drinks, variety of coffee and teas to choose from and a lot more. It is one of my favourite Italian shops in the area. read more

The only thing I wanted but didn't see was fresh bruschetta! It is pretty sweet they make fresh pasta there and all the prices seemed very comparable. Well we bought some prosciutto and some bread yesterday - first time. When we opened the package the fat on the prosciutto was yellow and hard ( its usually creamy looking and soft from other places we buy it) and the meat part was leathery (its usually soft and lovely at other places we have bought it) but Mercato says that's how some of their customers like it that way so they are between the rock and the hard place. The bread was hard and stale but Mercato insists they make their bread daily and ahve ZERO issues with their bread but they also won't say what they do with or where they donate their unsold bread. Does that mean the unsold day before bread is still on the shelf? they won't say! read more

I also checked out the new Italian Bakery on Saturday afternoon, just a few days after they finally opened. I will admit that the delays in their opening kinda made the excitement fizzle a bit. But I headed in anyway. It is quite similar to the other Italian bakeries in the area, as far as selection and price, but it is amazing to not have to go into Edmonton for these offerings anymore. And you'd be surprised by how much they have from other regions... it's not just Italian! We picked up a few sweets (though sadly, when we got home, we discovered that we hadn't received what we asked for - the counter was so packed we basically had to yell across a bunch of other customers to let them know what we wanted), as well as some fresh pasta and alfredo sauce. The sauce had a "Pazzo pazzo" label on it, so I assume that's where they get it from. It was delicious. The produce area is incredibly small, and didn't seem to offer anything that you can't get at the grocery store for roughly the same price. Parking was decent, though I imagine it will get pretty bad around Christmas time with all the other shops and restaurants in such a small area. read more

This grocery store/cafe duo is a great addition to the St. Albert area. The parking in this complex can be quite crowded at peak times. I came with a couple friends on a Saturday afternoon around 1pm and was very lucky to find a parking spot. Inside is new and designed well; however, the seating area in the cafe section can be quite crowded during peak times as well. There are six 4-person tables and two long tables for approx 8-10 people. Plenty of seating, just crowded when busy. The sandwiches were delicious and were toasted if you wanted. I also ordered a mocha which was tasty. Overall good experience, but I would prefer to avoid peak times due to crowds. read more

I went to the bakery to buy a dessert for Mother's Day after hearing how good it is. Overall our experience was alright. Due to COVID, the security was managing how many people came in to the store however no one followed social distancing guidelines in the bakery line up. Additionally, we were all disappointed to find out the tiramisu cake was still frozen in the middle when we went to eat it for dessert that evening. Frozen desserts are to be expected from big chain grocery stores, not small bakery's that charge twice as much. Highly doubt I will be returning as a frequent customer and will not be spreading positive word of mouth reviews to my peers. read more

I made it to Mercato finally. After a much anticipated wait for the opening, it seems like construction took longer than expected, I was pleasantly surprised with what I found. The deli section seemed very well stocked with a large variety of meats and cheeses waiting to tempt your taste buds. There is a wide selection of delicious treats in bakery as well. The rum balls are massive and very rich. The grocery section provides a host of unfamiliar, but tantalizing items to try. They also carry Pinocchio Ice Cream, made in Edmonton, in a wide selection of flavours. If you haven't tried this local treat I highly recommend it. The store also carry some unique flavours of frozen stuffed pastas. We tried the gorgonzola and pear ravioli and the braised beef ravioli, both were delicious. read more

Finally Saint Albert gets a full fledged satellite store! I was so excited when I seen that they carry a very good selection of most of the products that they have at the downtown store. Went there to try out their talked about sandwiches. Big disappointment. They were very basic and flavourless. For $8.50 a piece, you hope that they are yummy. Not so. A slice of meat, a slice of cheese, some basic red sauce, bread and that's it. Could have made a better sandwich at home. Their cannoli and cream horns were okay, not the best. The downtown Italian Bakery is so much better, so is the Italian Bakery on 51 Avenue better. Won't be wasting my hard earned money their again. Four 6 sweets and 4 sandwiches my total was slightly over $55.00. Such a disappointment. read more

This is the best place for a quick cappuccino and lunch. There are also so many amazing desserts. The cafe staff members are friendly, and the bakery staff are prompt and friendly as well. I took off a star because the produce is hit or miss, some of the fruit has been moldy or soft in the store, and the grocery area is pretty small. It's good if you're looking to buy some imported and special things, but I wouldn't attempt a full grocery shop here. read more
