We head down to San Diego like we have over so many years to purchase our Mexican Auto Insurance. We drive to Instant Mexican Insurance in San Ysidro to buy our policy. Just like always we get full coverage on the vehicle and off we go! I love Baja there is so much to do and we were having a blast. That is until our last day when we decided to drive down to Ensenada. We walked around town for 6 hrs. When we decided we had enough we jumped in the car and headed back to our condo. We were sitting at the last stop light out of town when all of the sudden BAM! We were rear ended by a HUGE tour bus! Thankfully everyone was ok and our car was drivable. When we exchange insurance info it turns out we have the same insurance company Qualitas (avoid using them at all costs). We waited an hour and a half for the insurance adjuster and when he arrived he informed us our insurance policy would only cover Mexican labor rates ($5-7 a hr in Mexico & $45-$50 in the states). This was never told to us when we purchased our policy through Instant Mexican Insurance. Nor did they offer a policy that would cover U.S. labor rates which several reputable business like AAA do. I found a policy after this happened from AAA that covers up to $75 dollar labor rates for only $10.00 more than what I paid for the SCAM Instant Mexican Insurance offers along with their partner in crime Qualitas. They gave me two options. Take my car to Mexico on my dime (I live 700 miles round trip from the border)to have it repaired by some shop I cannot research or accept just under $5000 on estimates averaging $8500 and that's not including damage that cannot be seen until the vehicle can be taken apart. After contacting Instant Mexican Insurance our first day home I was verbally harassed buy some rude menopausal woman who reminded me by taking the packet they gave me I accepted the terms buried deep in their packet. Heed my WARNING!!! Use Instant Mexican Insurance & Qualitas at your risk! I can almost guarantee any of the positive posts have never had to file a claim.

I was planning a trip to Baja for my friend and I. This was his first trip to Baja and I wanted to…read moreshow him how to do it right. Doing it right is obtaining Mexican Car Insurance before you cross the border. Mexican car insurance is required by law in Mexico and adds peace of mind that you are 'fully' covered for theft, damage & limited medical expenses resulting from a traffic collision. When purchasing Mexican Car Insurance you have to ensure the company in which you are purchasing car insurance from is a company based in Mexico which this company is. While I conducting some research I found what I believed to a reputable company that has been in business since 1987. I even found a Yelp page for this business and to my surprise I found that this company was offering a Yelp deal which provided you with $25.00 dollars' worth of insurance (which will give you 'full coverage' for an entire day) for $20.00, of course I jumped on the deal. After purchasing the deal and receiving the confirmation number from Yelp I called the business direct and asked them how I go about cashing this voucher in. What happened next was quite interesting as well as disturbing, the folks working the actual front desk of this business had 'NO' idea of such a deal. I had to suggest the employee's go to their Yelp page and look at the deal that is being offered by their employer, I did this a week prior to my trip. I was advised by the staff that if the deal was valid that I could simply go onto their companies web site, fill out the basic information required (vehicle, driver info) and upon checking out apply my confirmation code, I did just that and upon checking out there was no box for a confirmation/ redemption code. This was quite taxing because I did not want to make another stop at an office on my way to Mexico but now I had to stop to rectify this situation. Yesterday (08-07-2014) I stopped by the office in person with my confirmation code in hand. The employee working when I showed up was the same person with whom I spoke to the week prior and who remembered our previous conversation. This employee a male gentleman whose name has slipped me was extremely helpful & immediately got on the telephone and started making telephone calls to his supervisors to verify this Yelp deal. The supervisors had no idea what he was talking about which was quite frustrating for both me & the employee. The employee quickly apologized and offered me a discount for one day's worth of full coverage into Mexico which ended up saving me $10 dollars. I ended purchasing this insurance in cash. Even with the major hiccup that occurred with my Yelp deal not being validated I was still in and out of the door within 10-15 minutes. I was happy with my level of service until the following day (08-08-2014) when I was called by my bank advising me that a purchase was made in Mexico using my credit card number. The purchase was in the amount of $2,987.14 via Apple online for two (2) Mac Book airs. I cancelled my card, called Apple cancelled the order and called the business directly to advise them of what happened. I called the business directly and asked to speak with the owner who has a message on Yelp claiming to be in business since 1987 with zero complaints. I was told the owner of this business was in Ensenada and would return my call, as of today (08-15-2014) that has not happened. In the future I will AVOID this business. In my opinion this is not a coincidence. If you are going to use this business pay in cash otherwise you might end up like me disputing charges & cancelling credit cards. The last time I used said card before using it using to purchase a Yelp deal (which was not honored) was over 2+ months ago on United Airlines to purchase in flight Wi-Fi service. I wish I could give this place negative stars, a complaint is being filed with the BBB.
