Some staff at this location are impolite and not as friendly as other currency places I've been to. Dislikes: this place rarely gives out small bills and no longer offers 20s. As someone who travels consistently, I am always going to currency exchanges to keep cash on hand in case of emergencies. Despite what you may think, the exchanges in San Ysidro give a better exchange rate than the ones in Tijuana, the airports, or in LA. This particular exchange has served me well, considering the fact that they are open 24/7. As I had quite a bit of pesos and euros laying around, I decided to come here the other day to exchange these for dollars. FYI: they exchange pesos to dollars and vice-versa any time of day or night, but they only exchange euros during the day. The staff here is always friendly, and the exchange is quick and seamless. They have a sizable parking lot, and I've never had any bad experiences in this area, even though I'm usually just passing through San Ysidro. This franchise is a rip off. I went in to exchange $300 dollars for pesos. The clerk sneakily handed me the receipt without giving me a heads up what the peso amount would be so I stored the receipt in my pocket. He quickly handed me the bills after counting an amount out loud to me. Thinking I was good to go, I left with the pesos and walked around the corner to the corner. Howeve, I happened to look at the receipt when I was at the car and realized he gave me $1000 less than he should've $40-$50). I quickly went inside and explained what happene. In typical scumbag fashion, he told me there was nothing they could do until the next day and was told to keep the receipt. Not surprisingly, I returned the next day and they were closed for the day being a Sunday. Had I not checked the receipt I would've never found out. I was needing a place to exchange for pesos and saw it's right off the freeway which I think is the last exit before the border. I'm all new to this so I came here first with a debit card but they only take cash, so we had to go to a bank down the street since they don't have an ATM. I think they could benefit by having an ATM there, luckily there are multiple banks close by. The line is full of Mexicans too, so that gave me peace of mind cause they know what's up. This business is conveniently located close to the border. There is not an abundance of parking at the facility but it has not been a problem for me in the past. In my experience, over time they have become reluctant to change more than a couple hundred dollars at a time. This would be fine if I were just going to Tijuana for lunch. When you're loading up for a week long vacation in Oaxaca it just doesn't cut it. Sometimes it can be a challenge buying things in Mexico when all you have are a pocket full of 500 peso notes. It is always like pulling teeth to get some amount small bills out of these people and most of the time they'll tell you they can't help you or that they only have a few. I would think that a firm this close to the border could be more service oriented if they were interested in repeat customers. I'm still looking for just such a place. read more

Seems to be the worst exchange rate in the area, but only by .1. Wait time with two people queued in front of me was 10 minutes with 3 clerks working, which seemed a bit long. The system by which you're directed to a stall wasn't intuitive to me. Clerk did not speak English, but that presented no real problem since it's clear to everyone what you're there for. read more

Customer Service is not good. I was trying to exchange only $1600 to Mxx Peso and was unsuccessful. First they asked me for my ID, I gave them my ID. They asked for the proof where I got the money from. I showed them the receipt of my redraw and my bank statements. They asked if I work, I said yes. They asked for proof. I pulled my phone right in front them, login to paychex account to show them my pay stub, they said they want to see it on paper. I was looking to purchase Euros so I Called 1800 number listed on website. I was given number to San Ysidro facility, so I could get the current currency rate. I was denied over the phone currency rate. I explained that I didnt want to drive down to their facility if their rate was higher than Citibank or Currency Exchange International (which i obtained a friendly over the phone currency rate without hesitation) Representative stated he had more than enough Euros for purchase and that per his boss he could not give out their current Euro rate. read more

When I asked the guy over the phone their exchange rate and commission charges for that moment (so I could drive down right away), he stated they were not allowed to give that information over the phone and I would have to go down there.
