I stayted all hostels around Downtown San Diego and I can say this hostel is the best!!! This is my first choice when I travel to San Diego. Location: heart of Little Italy, so many restaurant, few minutes walking to trolley station, walking to habor, easy to connect anywhere you want to go. Price: it will be cheaper if you book online and price will change everyday depend on seasons. Probably more expensive but not much compare to another hostel around but it deserved because the room and your bed absolutely better. Room and bed: clean, very comfortable, they clean every day after check out time 11am, and then they always check and clean bathroom many time on the day. They have so many bathroom, so I never wait when I need to use. Kitchen: big with all stuffs you need for cooking, coffee, tea, water alway ready to serve you for free. They have breakfast every morning at 7am to 9am with sandwich, eggs, bananas, pancake that make by yourself. Customer service: Thank you very much for treat me like home during my staying time here. I lived here over 2 months for working travelling so I know all of employees here. They are very friendly and helpful. They host a lot of activities during a week. First time staying at a hostel. Lots to like about this place, friendly staff, daily activities, everything was functional. It's not a 5-star hotel and it's a well used hostel, but the price was right and the experience talking to people from around the world there unbeatable. There's also free cook your own breakfast. The only downside is the same for any communal living place, people coming and going while you're trying to sleep, some pot smoking (no smoking in the hostel but if people smoke outside, you can smell it when the window are open), etc. still I had a great time. The staff was great. Everything was clean and cozy. I like the nautical theme their schedule week, daily events posted, and breakfast with build your own, but it was really good. I made a coconut chocolate chip pancake. Coffee is great worth waiting very centrally located easy to get to most places that you want to see. They're beautiful, orange and red milkweed plants in the planter outside the building. I saw a monarch butterfly joining the milkweed. I posted the pictures on this page. read more

I ended up in this hostel by 'reject' of a friend I was supposed to stay at (last minute change of plans) and this ended up being a very cool experience for me, meeting diverse people that I won't probably have the opportunity to meet and spend a night sleeping on the cheap side in the heart of Little Italy. Needless to say that was a super plus to wake up to the Saturday farmers market full of life. At the check-in was greeted by Santi, the manager of the hostel, who hails from Chile and has extensive work experience in the SF area. We exchange a good conversation about differences of living in the Bay Area vs San Diego and he showed me the ladies shared room, painted with bright colors, simple and functional. I found the place charming, I passed by that building so many times before when I lived in SD, so my experience now as tourist in one of those charming houses was peculiar to me at this point in life. Even though I had been in hundreds of hostels especially in Europe...I did that mostly when I was young, so I was reluctant how a woman my age will be 'accepted' among a group of youngsters 420-friendly (if you are allergic or cannot stand the smell, not your place, as everyone seems to be smoking there. Not my thing but I did not mind). Every one was super warm to me and I actually saw a couple in their mid 60s, a fun Welsh that sells balloons in Balboa Park (he made a cool one for me!) in his late 50s and other couple in their 30s...so not all 'college kids in spring break' kind of image. Some of the guests also were voluntaries in some sort of program where they travel through various hostels and help running the place, cleaning, making beds, cooking...for free accommodation. The bathroom was never busy, and the common areas were pretty cool, especially the kitchen area with coffee, pancakes, omelets, etc included for breakfast. Best things about this hostel is relative low cost, proximity to freeway, and public parking availability within a few blocks. However I couldn't book on their website due to problems with it so I had to use a third party site. First night I'm here they put me in an upper bunk despite my request for a lower bunk since it's not a good idea to make senior citizens climb up and down ladders to go to sleep. The bunk has a broken light fixture inside the bunk along with USB charging slots and one 2-prong electric plug. Given that most electronic devices are 3-prong, this is not helpful, particularly since there are only 2 outlets in the room and the closest one to me is taken up by someone's electricity converter for European devices. Tonight I'm trying to dry my beach towel in the laundry facility here and the instructions are terrible and the top-and -bottom washer/dryer are not clearly marked so after pumping $2.50 in quarters into machine it never started because I had it in the washer, not the dryer (again, poor instructions on the machine). Hostel had a BBQ off-site and entire staff left reception unattended so there was no one to help for most of the evening. I wouldn't have stayed here had I known that this was awaiting me and would spend more for a better experience. It's now 10:30 p.m. and not only is my towel still wet but reception is still empty. read more

First time in San Diego and I booked this super well located spot in town, amenities included are wifi and pancake breakfast everyday also you can cook yourself whatever you want. It is located within a10 min drive from the airport or 5 from Car rentals. The area is pretty safe to walk at night and/or leave your car. If you walk south of the hostel you will find plenty of restaurants and a nice plaza surrounded by ice cream and coffee shops. Parking was a little confusing I never understood quite well the zones, and the brunette lady at the desk didn't knew much, but right outside the hostel you can park just read the signs for the days the city sweeps the street (Wednesday - Thursday). They are accurate on their times so I had my room at 4pm, I asked to have it earlier but they were still working on it. No worries you can still drop your luggage, use the restroom and start touring. I asked for a whole room instead of sharing it in a bunk bed and it was a big room (23), great firm memory foam bed. I was given a couple of card keys for me and my wife so I felt comfortable and safe about my things. However this room doesn't have any fans at all not a ceiling one or a standing one and it gets super hot although I saw one at the shared room behind us. Staff is friendly, the blonde lady is nice and looking after your needs but it was weird at a point knowing who works there and who doesn't, young guys and girls were behind the desk sometimes. All restrooms are shared but everything was spotless but I would say that towels was an issue since the only shower upstairs during the whole week I stayed and one day they ran out of clean towels the only answer the brunette lady said was oh we need to wash them so that day I dried myself with the clothes I wore. My suggestion is grab one and stick to that the whole stay or probably some more rules since I saw towels at different rooms and not in the dirty towel container. Overall this hostel is a good and economic spot but we didn't have a great experience since the other guests t there gathered upstairs at night on our first day to talk loud about their plans till 1 am I asked them to cut it off, didn't help, I had to message the hostel through booking.com since it was the fastest way and she asked them to take their talk to the living room or somewhere downstairs. Similar thing happened the third day when some guys started playing beer pong on the patio, shouting and being loud, and our room (23) is literally above, making it impossible to sleep adding that you can't close the window because of the heat. Anyway, after asking again for help they said the policy is to be quiet after midnight!!! So think about preparing for a trip or do snorkel the following day but sleeping early is not an option since some guys won't shut up because they are allowed. I've been at other hostels and there are many rules posted everywhere and staff asking you to follow those, so I can say that is great location, good place, not so good management, no logic rules, no thinking about anyone but their $$$. read more

We booked the whole house on Front St this past weekend. By far my worst experience as a traveler, we started off with the host being unresponsive about check-in instructions on the VRBO app. I messaged the host 3 days before our check-in to inquire about instructions and I did not hear back from him until I called the number. Once I called the number, they provided instructions over the phone but when I requested them to provide check-in instructions on the app, they stated they didn't know what app I was referring to. When we first arrived, the house smelled like Urine, there were huge urine stains in the front stairs. As we went inside the home there was a hole on the door, seemed like they removed the doorknob and just left the hole. This is not what was advertised in the pictures. When we asked about the whole getting sealed one of the hosts representatives gave us attitude and said well, we have cameras. To which we responded, we don't care about your cameras we care for our safety. She angrily left to get someone to try to fix the hole. The house was not cleaned at all, there were mouse traps in multiple areas of the home. Throughout the whole home there were a lot of spider webs, kitchen and kitchen utensils were filthy. The house was advertised as fully airconditioned which wasn't the case, there were only air conditioners in certain rooms. The kitchen table and all the surface areas were sticky to the point you where you would set your arms on the table, and they would get stuck. The pictures did not match what we were greeted with. There were multiple windows that were either broken, wouldn't close (allowing bugs), or missing entirely. There was one window (hole) that was patched with 2"x4"s and chicken wire. All in all, I would not recommend this location to anyone. read more

This place definitely looks nicer in the pictures, which I usually wouldn't really mind. I'm in my 20s and play in a band and have stayed weird places, but because it's COVID I was more apprehensive. Staff + guests didn't wear masks and the community areas were pretty small so not really any space to distance. We stayed in a private room though, all gucci. The room was only $60 in the heart of Little Italy, so I couldn't complain too much. The staff and all the guests were also super friendly and didn't make me feel unsafe or unwelcome. I'd definitely come back outside of COVID, but if you're looking for a safe place to travel at this time you may wanna go to a hotel. We had a mini fridge and were right by the shared bathroom, which was clean and never really busy. The one thing is that our sheets had stains and the bed/furniture was really shabby and old. This was my first time to ever stay at a hostel. I dont know the blonde girls name behind the counter but she made me feel so welcome...as if I was a part of her family. She took time to explain everything to me and gave me a tour. It was Tuesday...so they were having a taco social. Everyone was gathered on the patio for food and drinks. They have social events every day. The room was small with bunk beds. The bed was very comfy. There are 2 showers and 3 bathrooms and I did not have to wait. In the morning they serve boiled eggs...bagels...cereal...coffee...tea. In the back they have a garden you can help yourself to...plus chickens... so cute. I would for sure stay here...it is 2 blocks from little italy... and close to the ocean. read more

Just curious to know, how I can file a complaint & compensation for items ( not just left around randomly), but that we're taken from the tenant I was staying in while taking a nap before work.? I brought this matter to the attention of the so-called boarding staff at the ITH & was told I so-called signed a voucher excusing theif within the property?? Basically I was treated like I was wrong! That's completely false. The only thing I signed upon arriving was for my visa. I'm trying my best to refrain from leaving a side-ways review of this place completely over looking the bad in this place and utilizing the positive. But the GO-HAPPY-PARTY-STAFF circle at the hostel did nothing, to inforce the policies of this place, nor even question the so called housekeeping/party staff that run the hostel. (Its was evident who took my belongings; either the housekeeper, who may have took it thinking the last person who slept there left it behind or the other transient who took a shower & thought the same, before he left. Thinking hey I came up! Because there's only 2 outlets in the room both ackwardly by bunks that port the outlet).This is really upsetting for me, I invested a bit of time & money into this place only to be disappointed by staff that seem to stick up for there crush-partner-party-friends. Unfortunately I still owe T-Mobile $96.98 on the stolen property that was taken out the room, that can only be entered by code. I traveled alone as a female, i booked and paid extra in advance for a 4 female bunk. When I got there (at 11 at night keep in mind) they told me they sold my room out and if I wanted to go with another room... I tried to be optimistic and said yes, they proceeded and bunked me in a room with 8 other guys! I tried to keep my calm and stayed friendly but left as soon as they went outside to smoke just to not cause commotion. Placing a young girl in a room full of 8 guys (at the same price of the girls bunk which is extra) is beyond unprofessional. Clearly I was traveling alone, I feel that you would want to make female solo travelers feel safer yk? I came to San Diego travelling alone and I had nobody. The people at the hostel was so welcoming and in a couple of days I made true friends. Love the vibes, it's clean, it's fun! They're very helpful at the reception and the breakfast was delicious. The bedroom, bathroom and all the sheets and towels were clean. They had a nice little setup for breakfast (even though I thought the room didn't come with any meals) and you could make pancakes, eggs, bananas, peanut butter. I've stayed in many hostels in shared and private rooms and usually love my experience. I cannot possibly recommend this hostel. When I arrived, the toilet upstairs (the only one for the upstairs accommodations) was clogged and filled with feces. Worse still, I tried to take a shower and there were feces on the floor right next to the shower (on the shower platform). The next morning, the feces were still there on the floor and the toilet was still clogged. There only seemed to be one toilet with a working door downstairs. My sheets were very wet when I unfolded them to make my bed. They smelled strongly of detergent and seemed clean, but they hadn't been dried. The door to my 'private room' was inside a room that was supposed to be mixed accommodations, but ended up being all men. This just made the experience of coming/going from the room awkward. Also, though the hostel says they have quiet hours until 11, that is only for inside the house, and there were people outside making noise until very late and I found it difficult to sleep. They say that dinner and breakfast and dinner is provided, but I was there quite early for breakfast and all they had were a few pieces of white toast, some cheerios and some apple jacks cereal (so, it looked promising), but there was no milk, no condiments for the toast other than butter. So I wouldn't count on there being anything much for breakfast. Dinner was decent, but pretty disorganized. They said that there would be a bonfire or jam session that night, but no activity ended up happening. I was so disgusted by the feces on the floor that I had opted to forfeit my second night there and go to another hotel. The basic thing a hostel should give you is a sanitary place to stay, and they didn't even meet that bar. The staff were friendly, and I met several really interesting people, but that doesn't make up for unsanitary conditions. read more

I stayed at this hostel a number of times in the past, and I would say my experiences were decent. Almost a month ago, I was going to stay at Adventure for a night or so. I went to the ITH website and noticed several vacant beds. I did not make an online reservation prior to my arrival since I did not think it was particularly necessary. When I arrived at the hostel and told the clerk I wanted to make a reservation for that night, he asked for my ID and told me that his "relief" would help me within the next 5-10 minutes. A few minutes later, he told me that all of the beds were fully booked. He told me they were expecting a large group, and that the information on the ITH website was inaccurate. I thought that was odd. He told me there were plenty of hostels in downtown San Diego that I could stay at. After I left the building, I pulled out my smartphone, returned to the ITH website, and noticed that there were still (several) beds available.I decided to make an online reservation for one-night in the 10-person bungalow, and the reservation was successful. I returned to the hostel, and told the desk clerk that I was able to make a reservation at the hostel. The clerk then told me that I was "blacklisted." I asked him what happened, and he told me that a couple of people complained that I made them feel uncomfortable. I was very surprised because no one mentioned this to me last year (the last time I stayed at ITH Adventure was November of last year...2018.) In fact, after my last day, a different clerk told me that I exceeded the 14-day limit for that year, and I was welcome to return next year (meaning, "this" year...2019.) That experience left a very very sour taste in my mouth. Number one, as I mentioned in the last paragraph, no one told me about these "alleged" complaints. Last November, the staff member told me that I wasn't welcomed back because of the 14 day limit, he didn't mention anything about complaints or being "blacklisted." Number two, the staff member at the counter lied right in my face about being fully booked and claiming that the information on the website was inaccurate. That was a damn lie!!! Also, someone from ITH Adventure emailed me the next morning, inquiring about my "stay" (which was weird since I wasn't allowed to stay there...which meant the email was probably automated.) A few days afterward, I actually replied to that email with all the information I listed in this post, and NO ONE replied to it, which REALLY REALLY REALLY pissed me off. I HATE being ignored like that, especially since I gave hundreds and hundreds of dollars of my hard-earned money to this business. I don't know what the f*ck is going on with this place, but something seems very foul here. read more

A more chill experience at their farmhouse vs a party atmosphere at the main place. The farmhouse has an outdoor shower, a deck to exercise on, even a chicken coop. Perfect balance of space to do your thing, and friendly people to get to know. It's in an ideal spot if you're in downtown San Diego and looking for more action than just the beach. Little Italy has all the nicer things I wanted right there (Pappalecco for food and espresso... a block away.) The manager Jessica was extremely friendly and gracious to all needs and possible wants. Location could not have been better with a couple minute walk to little Italy as well as the harbor. Traveling to San Diego for a business trip, I was very thankful when I checked in to find that I had been moved to the eco-farm building. It was very quiet and had good accommodations. I loved the atmosphere and the mission of the eco-farm. The staff were helpful and friendly, and the two dinners I had there were decent. It worked out perfectly because I was able to walk to and from the event hotel which was just under a mile away, and even got to check out the farmers market on the last day. Does sharing a single bathroom with a dozen other people sound like an adventure to you? If so, this place may be right up your alley. I didn't really notice this situation prominently displayed in any of the glowing reviews of this hostel, so I'm just going to put it front and center. To be clear, there are a couple of additional facilities downstairs in the dining area. But upstairs, the sink, toilet, and shower are all in one little room at the end of the hall, so just be prepared to trek downstairs and still be waiting. I was in the main house, in a room upstairs. There were six beds in that room, as well as, surprise(!) someone staying in the closet. (There was actually a little room inside our room, keycard entry and everything.) There were small lockers (not big enough for luggage) and a cramped couple of shelves in one corner. The beds do not have any sort of privacy curtains, and my top bunk happened to be right next to a floor-to-ceiling window. So don't forget your sleep mask. They do have ear-plugs by the front desk. As for the crowd, it was early 20's, mainly travelers from outside the US. I felt the staff was a little pushy, almost cult-y with the way they were trying to pull people together for events. Location wise, it's fantastic! (Albeit being basically under the freeway.) There was a super farmers' market the weekend I was there just a couple of blocks down that stretched for a few blocks out. You can easily walk downtown to the Gaslamp Quarter. And you're just a hop skip and a jump from numerous MTS stops. So you've just got to know what you're getting into going in. If you look at it like a camping trip, it's bound to feel downright luxurious! Though at least if we were camping, I could go squat in the woods. read more

I checked into the ITH Adventure Hotels - Captains House on Friday afternoon with a group of approximately 25. So, we had the entire house for our group. The moment we walked in and found our rooms there was something bad that each person could say. The place didn't smell clean, (no one dusts or do real housekeeping) there was spider webs in the corners of the wood windows, the desk and the armoire in my room was filled with dust, the linen on the bed/pillowcases had rust spots on them. The laundry room was filled with dirty linen. Every room was given two towels and every room had bath towels that were extremely dingy, they appeared to not be washed with laundry detergent and bleach, and there were old towels given out that had huge holes in them. Moving on to the bathroom, although the decor looked ok, inside of the shower had lots of mold and the drain needs to be replaced because there is a whole in it. The kitchen also had dirty dishes in the dish washer. We found that the captains house is not very safe nor secure! The first night at 330am one of the guests noticed there was an unknown male playing on his phone, sitting on the couch in the kitchen. Remember, our group had the entire house to ourselves and we knew everyone. One of the guests noticed him and fell from her bunk bed and the male immediately got up and tried to head to the bathroom. He said excuse me to the guest and proceeded up the stairway to the upstairs bathroom. It was that time, the guest informed a male guest that there was an unknown male in the bathroom and two male guests questioned him once he came out the bathroom. The male immediately said he works with the company, he has access to get in and that he was doing the laundry. He proceeded out the front door and never returned. The male guests checked the laundry room and found that the same laundry was still in the laundry room not cleaned. All doors were checked and it was found that the kitchen back door to the alley, was unlocked and that's where the male entered the house. On the second day, the entire house went out for a few hours to SeaWorld and as soon as we returned and opened the front door, we observed that the side door was wide open. Luckily, nothing was missing but everyone in the house were uncomfortable staying there for the weekend. The owners really need to upgrade the house and hire someone to keep up the houses-keeping!!! I will not refer this place to anyone! read more

Experience in this hostel was really bad. Staff really rude and not helpful at all ( except for one girl ). Only answer was yes/no/I'm sorry. Someone stole my sweater that was in my personal bed during the first day. One bathroom for three rooms ( 6 p each room) it's not an adventure when you pay this price. They have a sign that says they can print tickets etc but when my friend asked them ( she needs a document for her flight) they said they only print during certain hours(?!?); I love animals but there were dogs free in the common spaces( lounge and kitchen), and they should tell this in advance. Dirty towels and really dirty bathroom. Super loud also after the quiet time. Never again. read more

This place is awesome. It's great for solo travelers, or traveling with friends. Meeting other travelers is easy and encouraged through events and spaces to hang out - like the deck! The provided breakfast consisted of pancakes - they made the mix and we got to make our own with choice of bananas, chocolate chips and cinnamon for toppings. Room 4 was super hot during the day, if you're sensitive to heat. I'll definitely be back! read more

Cutest Hostel! Picking up my buddy... This Hostel is located on the outskirts of the Gaslamp/Little Italy but still close enough to be able to access all of downtown. I haven't stayed the night but I picked up a friend that stayed here for a week. There is a chill spot to lounge outside, a kitchen area filled with postings for Daytime & nighttime activities around town, and a huge mural painting on the wall of Ron Burgundy in the common room. Stay Classy, SD! The rooms have 3 bunks and all are named different things... If I had my choice, I would book the Leonardo DiCaprio bed... in my wildest dreams only, haha! The staff is really quirky and cool! They have awesome stuff up on all the walls. I really like how they have "HELLO" in different languages painted on all the steps leading upstairs. read more
