My first real time in San Diego. I randomly booked a place at the last minute because it seemed in a vaguely sort of convenient location. I didn't know what I was expecting. I had a great time! Beat my expectations a lot given the extremely low price. So the room was WAY bigger than expected for what I paid for it. I understand that it was the suite, but I wasn't expecting a large suite at all because it was so cheap. The front service was super friendly, helpful, everything. They were able to facilitate complimentary early check-in as well. In short, the service was very good and everyone at the front desk was super helpful and accomodating. Apparently there's some sketchy areas nearby if you walk to Old Town through a very weird direction (you should actually cross the street and go through the underground passage). Location is convenient, the prices are SUPER affordable, and it's just overall nice and cozy. Complimentary breakfast was also nice and easy. Had a very pleasant stay and would likely stay here again the next time I'm in this part of San Diego! read more

Not cool but also not a dealbreaker. The conditioner container in the shower was broken so even though it was filled, it wouldn't dispense. Beds were comfortable. It felt cozy, exceptionally well-maintained, and surprisingly spacious in our kitchenette room. Genuinely not a bad inn to stay at since we booked our stay literally a couple days before the actual trip. It's SUPER close Old Town San Diego and my friends who flew in had no trouble taking a free shuttle there and walking to the Inn. Parking can get super tight though and can be limited especially with the crowds and super larger cars parked. You do have to speak with the lobby if you have a car to your room though I do believe. Everything is key card secured. The stairs, the elevators, and the continental breakfast room (which has foiled many people with how complex it is). We had some shivering European children who came from the pool running into the elevator with us since their parents forgot to give them a key. Whoops! Rooms were pretty clean, it's just we didn't get towel service or things tidied up. Probably since at any given point there was someone in our room and potentially waved them off. There's a DVD player in our room and DVD's you can borrow from the front desk (it's giving the context of the original Ring movies), but it sadly didn't work in our room. The bedroom of our suite didn't have a middle light to them room, so we had to finangle with the lamps and reading lights to get adequate lighting. Toilet and shower tub are separate from the sink, which works out with the amount of people we stayed with. Kitchenette had a mini fridge, some plates, coffee maker, and some pots and pans. Love the triceratops in the lobby. Super cute touch. Continental breakfast was DIY waffles, oatmeal, cereal, prepackaged baked goods, toast and bagels, and hard boiled egg. Simple and does the job. Checking in and out was smooth and simple. Don't mind staying here in the future. read more

Anyway, looking to book a place to stay for Comic-con this summer, one of the places I thought of was the Old Town Inn. It's a charming motel located a few blocks away from the heart of Old Town and its restaurants and shops. The trolley station is also nearby. Very convenient location. The rooms are dated but clean and kept in nice condition. They have a complementary breakfast which was simple but more than good enough to grab a bite to eat before hitting the town. The staff was very pleasant and accommodating. If you're just looking for a nice place to sleep and relax in between hitting all the tourist spots, OTI provides a pleasant experience at a reasonable price. Maybe not a place to be pampered but not everyone requires the elegant lifestyle of the rich and famous. read more

The Old Town Inn is so lovely! It's been around since the 1940's. Our booked hotel room 252 was handicapped. My friend & I had a relaxing comfortable sleep in our KING bed. We're glad that our hotel has a fridge. We were just a little disappointed that we didn't have a microwave. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. I booked this hotel room for my friend and I. She absolutely loved the beautiful hotel and reminded her of like a hacienda. We enjoyed our stay here during our long weekend for Supercross. Old Town Inn was in the perfect spot should we have chosen to take Amtrak down to San Diego as it is right across the street from the parking lot at Old Town. Plus we had planned to take the Trolley system to Snapdragon Stadium because it just makes more sense. We ended up not taking the train, but it still worked out perfectly! Parking was free for guests and the Trolley stop is in the same location as the Amtrak stop. So, it worked out well. For the price, it was really nice! Larger size Continental breakfast is included in the mornings (pastries, waffles, cereal, bagels, juice, fruit, yogurt). Plus the pool is beautiful and privately hidden from non-guests. Rooms were nicely sized, we had a king bed with pull-out sofa. Basic necessities were in the room as well as plenty of towels, microwave, mini fridge and extra blanket. Also an iron and ironing board, blow dryer, coffee machine. We didn't need anything at all during our stay! Check in was easy and friendly. The lobby at the Inn has books and a few games, plus ice water and delicious key lime "mints". We couldn't have been happier with the friendliness and comfort during our stay. My husband felt the bed was a bit harder than he'd like but it felt pretty decent to me. Not luxurious, but comfortable. I only knocked off one star because of the location, this is not the Old Town Inn's fault at all, they do the best with where they are. Trust me, this place is adorable!! But it is tucked in between industrial buildings and also very close to the freeway. So not only did we hear the train (which we expected) but we heard the freeway and street traffic too. That being said, we were in room 202 which is at the end closest to the street and hotel entrance. Not only the noise but the oddness of being surrounded by the large cement buildings, doesn't put off the coziest vibe. Luckily, Old Town Inn makes their little plot a nice oasis for visitors. Walking to Old Town is a breeze!! We loved that part. We did have to walk back after dark and it was strange to not walk among other visitors. Not scary or unsafe, just an odd place to have a motel. But it works! We would not hesitate to stay here again. Thank you Old Town Inn for providing a wonderful option for our trip. Affordable, friendly, convenient, and beautiful!! Stayed here for two nights while in San Diego and would definitely stay here again. Luke was very helpful when checking us in and checking us out. While checking us in, he let us know all the information we needed to know, such as the WiFi password, times for breakfast and coffee, and how we can get to our room. The inn offered amenities, such as towels and other toiletries in the lobby if you need anything extra, which I thought was very helpful for anyone staying. It was a cute little inn. I felt safe while staying here and would definitely return if I find myself in Old Town San Diego again! read more

The price is outstanding compared to other places around Old Town San Diego. The room was clean and neat, there have been some upgrades but you can tell that overall the place has some history. Friendly service at the front desk. They have a giant library of DVD's and some books if you feel like checking them out. By the way, it's true what they say at the front desk. Don't put your key card next to your cell phone because it will stop working. :) The little cottage architecture was very charming. They have a small pool in the middle and a cute stray cat. The surrounding area may make you a little uncomfortable to walk depending on what you're used to. There were a few people hanging around, some empty bottles in the street, but nobody bothered us. We're used to big cities, homeless in San Francisco, etc... so we felt okay. I wouldn't want to walk around at night by myself though. We felt fine walking to and from Old Town during the day and had a great time there. Their free breakfast was great. Everything we could hope for. Do-it-yourself waffles, hard boiled eggs, cereal, fruit, yogurt, pastries, bagels, coffee, juice. It's basically a lot of CostCo stuff in bulk but we were very satisfied with the assortment. If they were looking for suggestions, I would say fruit cups. They are shelf-stable and last longer than fresh fruit. We had an amazing stay here. This is a very nostalgic and very comfortable hotel very close to old town San Diego. You can literally walk there from here. The rooms are very clean and come with a fridge and stove along with cookware. This is a plus as you can make your own food here. Each room has a dvd player and they have dvds in the office you can use. They also provide a continental breakfast in the morning. The beds are super comfy. I highly recommend staying here it has that old vibe feeling with new world amenities. read more

I stayed here yet again on Jan 2nd and THEY ARE LISTENING TO YOUR SUGGESTIONS!!! They are making improvements to the property! The pool is completed. (I never used it but I appreciate that they spent all that money to refinish it.) They have trimmed the curtains as to not cover the AC units. ( I used to take the luggage rack and push the curtains up. ) They have On-Demand Channels and television. (The DVD player is still there and the movie collection in the lobby.) Waiting on the proteins for the breakfast! Staff is always friendly and accommodating every time I've been here. Prices are higher now, but what isn't? This was a great experience ! I highly recommend staying here. Check-in and out was super easy and quick. We stayed in the family suite I think? We luckily got a corner unit that was on the third floor and it was perfectly quiet and close to the parking/elevator. I almost wish we could've stayed multiple nights because we enjoyed the room so much. Clean, big suite and very comfortable. A/C was blasting the whole time so the room was very very comfy. Beds and linens were clean, soft and SOOO comfy. Don't know if I was just tired or it was the nyquil, but that sleep was the BEST sleep I've had all month LOL. Area is kinda sketchy just cause there is a lot of foot traffic and it's close to the metro station, so definitely lots of transients in the area, but we never felt unsafe. Pro is it is close to Old Town, and the metro station, so if you're traveling, this is the perfect spot to rest. Shower and bathroom was very clean, had plenty of towels and soap. Kitchenette was cute, although we only used the fridge, which was small but useful for what we needed. Sleeper couch was definitely stiff, but it was definitely comfy to sit on as a couch. Overall, great price for a clean and comfortable stay, free parking (AMAZING deal for a San Diego stay - avg parking price for hotels around here are $30-50/night), would definitely stay here again! read more

Outstanding location and walking distance to many fun shops and attractions in Old Town State Park. Josh at the front desk is incredibly friendly and personable -- you can tell he really cares about his guests. There's a kitchenette in the room which is convenient if you're looking to cook something quick for lunch or dinner and you can check out board games or DVDs which is a really nice personal touch that sets this hotel apart from the others. Breakfast is standard continental, great for the price, nothing to write home about. Rooms are spacious, clean and tidy. Would stay here again the next time I'm in San Diego! read more

We booked a room twice through booking websites, the first time I called to check if we could check in early and they told me they have no record of my reservation. Then I went to the other booking website and I paid for a room. Somehow the second time the hotel couldn't find our reservation when we arrived. We traveled over 10 hours to San Diego, exhausted and expecting to check into a room we had already paid for, only to be told there was no reservation and no room ready for us. That is completely unacceptable. I don't know if the problem is with the booking websites or the hotels, but that shouldn't be our problem. We paid for a room, planned our trip, and still ended up with nothing after spending all that time and money to get there. It's ridiculous that this happened twice. No one should have to deal with this after a long trip, especially when the room was already paid for. This was beyond frustrating and a huge waste of time, money, and energy. read more

Sort of a mixed review about this place. It was cheap and had free parking, so I thought I would try it out. Overall, I was pleased that it felt safe and comfortable, although I needed earplugs because of the highway noise. The decor tries to make it look like Old Town, but it is in an industrial area and right off the main (5) freeway. It is difficult to find if you aren't familiar with the area. It's on the west side of Pacific Highway, which is not crossable when coming from the airport. GPS is of no help. I actually called the front desk and was not only NOT helped, but was dismissed by the words "The name of the Inn is right on the building." I was tired from traveling all day and it was dark. I was really confused and upset, and literally stopped the car, thinking I was never going to find the place. Breakfast was plentiful but was 90% processed carbs. Thankful to grab an apple and leave. So we got our keys and one key didn't work. We went up to the lobby and he re-programmed the keys. We went out for the night and came back, and both keys didn't work. This was super annoying, since we had to keep going back and forth to the front lobby. When our room was over on the far end with the separate parking structure. It's just time consuming going back and forth. We were annoyed to deal with this. And my partner had to run back and forth- because let's be real here, my lazy a$$ wasn't gonna walk back and forth to get the keys fixed every time. This happened like 4-5 times during our stay. Not sure what was happening. We went down to do the continental breakfast thing, and the key didn't work. Really? What is the deal with the key's guys.... The continental breakfast was lame. They had waffles and oatmeal. Oh, and bagels. There wasn't anything freshly made like eggs, hashbrowns etc. Sure, the make your own waffles was good. But there wasn't much else going on. And the fresh fruit option was apples. Boring. We did not go back for the free breakfast. Our room was fine. The beds are not comfortable, but most hotel beds are like this. The area is not the best. A lot of homeless people sleeping nearby on the street. This hotel is 1 mile from SeaWorld though. So, it was worth it for how close it was! Hopefully you don't get janky keys like we did. read more

I booked at Old Town Inn, as it was $100 before taxes and other fees. The front desk was friendly and efficient, checking in and checking out. The location is convenient, as it's right across from Old Town Transit Center. The room itself though, kind of gross. First thing I noticed was the hand towel was still wet. Disturbing. And in the light of the day, I noticed a brown hair on the side of the bed (at least it was a long hair ..). The shower is quite small, but enough. Has a coffee maker and small 'fridge. Front desk provided toith brush and toothpaste; though no lotion in room. Will not return. read more

I stayed here for a couple of nights last year. Old Town Inn is a great deal. For a relatively low price you'll get a comfortable, clean and spacious room with easy parking. You'll also have quick access to downtown SD and other famous attractions. The lobby area is very charming too. It's not fancy and it's near a freeway, random government buildings and auto shops. In other words, you can't really walk around the building, but at this price point you shouldn't expect luxury. read more

My husband and I came to spend a night here at Old Town Inn and I am happy to say we had a good experience. The staff are really helpful and checking in was quick. The lobby looked very clean and decorative so it felt inviting. Once we got to our room we loved that it had the look of a little cottage and was the one story side of the inn. Once inside we liked how clean it was an I especially liked the built in vanity area. The inn is very close to Old Town so getting there and back was quick. Breakfast the next day was also great. There was a full breakfast menu and the woman keeping an eye on everything was quick to refill everything when needed. Overall we did enjoy our stay. I will say it was a bit pricy for a night's stay but would consider coming back in the future. read more

Timing is everything! On a last minute whim to escape Phoenix's inferno aka 110+ degrees, I decided to go to San Diego. The Friday night before leaving, I scoured all "my" sites to find places to stay including Airbnb. But it was slim pickins! The consequence? I stayed in Yuma on Saturday night, July 15th b/c there was no room at any SD inns/hotels under $700. B/c rooms were scarce, I happened upon this little gem of a hotel, Old Town Inn, independently owned & stayed here on Sunday night, July 16th. It's located right on the Pacific Highway, across from Old Town. That means it's a little noisy but I bring a portable sound machine with me for white noise so that takes care of the situation for me. Plus there are all these "yays!" YAYS * Super clean room * Little reading lights by the bed + FIVE pillows * Small but beautiful grounds with lush landscaping & flowers * Frig, microwave & coffee pot in the room (just ask staff for a coffee filter) * Friendly, accommodating staff * Free parking (SO many places charge you but not here) * Fantastic location b/c close to Mission/Pacific Beach (my goal) * Breakfast in the am: cereal, yogurt, waffles, coffee, bagels & cream cheese * A 10 minute walk away from Sprouts, cafes, Walgreens, Core Power yoga * Just under $200 read more

stayed here with my boyfriend for two nights and three days! one of the few affordable places to stay at in san diego that also has free parking!!! staff was super nice! we arrived earlier than check in and they let us in the room already :) room was okay with the cleanliness-- one con was i saw a cockroach in the bathroom but that was pretty much it ‍. the ac blows cold, the bathrooms aren't that spacious but our room did have a separate makeup table hehe so that worked out well! we got a pretty private and quiet area for our room so not much noise from the roads or planes :) would stay here again next time! read more

I stayed here for a week when I visited San Diego last week. This is an awesome hotel. There is plenty of free parking. The rooms are a good size and clean. The shower and sinks work well. Customer service was great. There is free breakfast every morning. The pool was nice. I like that this hotel is across the street from Old Town, so it was an easy walk to check out Old Town and get some delicious food. I would definitely stay at this hotel again. :) read more

I am really happy with my choice of hotels, I went with the Old Town Inn and I'm happy I did, first of all, it's a across the street from Old Town San Diego and it's amazing over there, the food and the shops are great. Second of all, I am really impressed with the hospitality and cleanliness of this place, that's always a plus. And last but not least is they offer free breakfast with your stay, I mean it's basic breakfast items like bagels, cereal and pastries but I'm a simple man and that does the job for me. Got a room here to follow an event at the stadium and was incredibly pleased. The front desk staff was so kind, even when we wanted to check out some movies intoxicated at night which I'm sure was annoying. The rooms were clean, had no funky smell, very comfortable bed, and all basic needs. (Cheapie little coffee maker with the packets of sugar/creamer, tv, microwave, fridge). I believe they said there's no cable which is why they had DVDs but I nearly never watch TV in hotel rooms so this wasn't an issue for me. They offered continental breakfast but we missed it. The room itself was quite small; really just the bed and dresser. Bathroom was a comfy size as well as the shower. (No bath). Parking was right next to the doors and the look of the place is SO CUTE. It was completely silent on a Friday night and Saturday morning. We heard some people quietly leaving their room and returning after what I assume was their run for breakfast but I could barely hear them. We did not use the pool and I had been emailed that it was under construction anyway so that's why we did not check it out at all. The lobby and dining area was a place we wouldn't have minded hanging out for a bit in the morning as it was bright/clean/welcoming. This would have made up for the lack of space in the room itself if we had gotten up for breakfast and wanted to have some coffee before we left. This is easily walking distance from Old Town and the transit center so you're connected to Downtown all the way up to La Jolla. (Being so close to Old town is why we skipped breakfast). It was also a $10.00 uber to the stadium. (Event Parking was $35 so even a ride both ways was cheaper than going ourselves and we drank so that wasn't truly an option). This is a five star hotel for what it is - a really comfy sleep. For us it was perfect since we were at an event all Friday night and live elsewhere in San Diego County so weren't staying in that area Saturday. I'd still almost recommend it to vacationers if you have a busy schedule and don't need much downtime in the room/the stay is just for a long weekend. If you'll be around long enough to need lazy time in your room or are in town for more than 3 nights I'd likely suggest elsewhere unless you could make the pool and main office area work or a fan of DVDs ;) read more

This hotel is a gem. The price was reasonable and it is close to Old Town San Diego. We loved the flowers and the "mission style" of the hotel. There was a nice express breakfast (good coffee!) and the managers are on duty and there to assist if there are any problems. This is not a new hotel, so if you are looking for "modern"- The Old Town Inn is not going to be your thing. But I would encourage everyone to give it a try- because it is located close to all venues in San Diego. Rooms were clean and comfortable! read more

I've stayed at this hotel on just about all of my trips down to San Diego over the last 8 1/2 plus years now. It's a nice little hotel in a great location, right on the other side of the train tracks from one of my favorite areas in San Diego, Old Town. Also, the trolley's right across the street. You just have to walk about 1/2 block or so down the street, and cross the street to the trolley/train station. I always stay in a room on the second floor in their 2-story building, towards the back of the building, away from PCH, so the highway noise has never been an issue. The rooms have always been nice and clean, and the bed and pillows very comfortable. I just stayed here for 3 nights this past weekend. The second night that I was there, there was a person who was apparently having some sort of a mental breakdown in the room right next to mine. He was yelling and screaming at around 1:30 in the morning. I was still up, and I walked to the lobby and the person working at the front desk fixed the problem by moving me to a room identical to the one that I was staying in, in their 1-story building right next to the 2-story building and towards the back, away from PCH. Problem solved! That room was very quiet, and I slept fine that night, and the next night. They have a HUGE selection of DVD's that you can rent for free from their DVD library too. Also, parking's free at this hotel. All of the front desk people that I've dealt with there over the years have been great, and they've all been very helpful and friendly! I'll be staying here again in October for 3 nights, right after my birthday. read more
