ITH Adventure Hostel San Diego was excellent. Probably the best hostel I stayed at between Seattle and San Diego. Breakfast and dinner provided daily for guests was great. Beds were good by hostel standards, rooms were comfortable and clean, staff are friendly and helpful. Location is convenient, being right on the edge of Little Italy and walking distance to downtown San Diego. The atmosphere at this hostel was really it's best feature. With two meals on offer a day, guests get to know each other quickly which nurtures the communal feel. The common areas are decorated beautifully with painted walls featuring plenty of our favourite characters. The staff also run events daily and are more than willing to get you any help you need. I was fortunate enough to spend Christmas 2015 at ITH SD and I even got a present along with my fellow guests. Plus a big dinner and roaring party on Christmas Eve. Definitely recommend checking out ITH when you're in San Diego - it was a fantastic way to finish my USA holiday. read more

After staying here, why would I ever stay anywhere else while in downtown SD? For $90 a night, this place was so much nicer than any average hotel up in Hotel Circle. The staff are unbelievably nice, super cool and really helpful. The rooms are immaculate, colorful, fun & the beds are SO COMFORTABLE. I stayed during Comic Con, in the middle of July and the rooms are kept at a constant, perfect 76°F so it was nice to come home after a hot, exhausting day to a hot shower, cloud-like bed and AC. I felt so welcomed and at home here, especially in comparison to other hostels in the area. (please see my review for Hostel on 3rd). They also organize cool mixers everyday which is cool if you're not familiar with the area and are interested in getting to know your roommates a little more. I stayed the 10 person mixed room and never felt uncomfortable with sharing space with both guys and girls. And to top it all off, they provide a hot breakfast AND dinner for all guests! I mean who does that?? The Double Tree next door doesn't even do that. The only downside is parking. There's a parking lot directly across the street that you can park for multiple days, but its pretty small so get there early to save a spot (and its between $20-$30 per day EEK). There's also street parking all around, and it's free at night. I go to Comic Con every year and from now on, I will ONLY ever stay here. read more

My daughter and I stayed here. This was our first experience in using a hostel. I was a bit nervous at first, but hostess (from Italy) was very friendly and really put us at ease. This place is great. Friendly staff VERY CLEAN!, safe and to Little Italy. It's right off the freeway, easy access to downtown. You get use to the other people in your room. Beds are nice and clean! If you want to be sure you won't get ripped off, do not waste your time/ money here. We booked three nights for your son. He ended up staying with a friend for one of the nights so we asked for a refund for a single night and after having considerable time wasted by the girl behind the counter, we got our refund from a manager who stepped in. For some reason, our son was charged a second time for the night he did stay there (apparently their computer system is not reliable). We tried calling to discuss the issue but they do not answer their phones. We've emailed numerous times for a refund since they charged twice for the same single night. They have not bothered responding. We will be filing a claim with the BBB if we do not hear back and receive our refund immediately. They are unprofessional and not worth the trouble. read more

The entire process of booking a room, checking in, being shown around the place, and checking out went smoothly without a hitch. All of the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. It was a wonderful congenial atmosphere being in the company of all of the other guests, whom I enjoyed meeting very much. The sleeping quarters were comfortable (I was in a room with several double bunk beds, and the beds had privacy curtains you could pull shut), and there were also lockers which you could put any valuable stuff in. There were plenty of bathrooms and showers - never a need to wait until one was available. Pancake batter was provided every morning with which guests could make their own pancakes (and the pancake batter was delicious); coffee was also provided. I was extremely impressed by how clean all of the facilities were (bathrooms, showers, kitchen, etc.). There was a recreation room with a pool table, TV with streaming services, and even a couple of guitars to play. The location is fabulous - 3 blocks from the Little Italy section of San Diego, plenty of restaurants nearby, small neighborhood markets within a few blocks away in case any supplies were needed, and it was close (within walking distance) to other downtown San Diego attractions (such as the Gaslamp Quarter, which is very lively at night with restaurants, entertainment, etc.). I had my car with me, and I was able to find free parking on the street at night within 1 block of the place on each of the 4 nights I was there. Overall, I absolutely loved the place, I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone else, and I look forward to staying there again! read more

If you're thinking this place is a great hostel to stay for a couple days, you're very mistaken and your belongings are at risk. My sister was in town and requested for them to hold her belongings while she was out. When I came with her to pick up her belongings later that day, all her food and water bottles were consumed. One of the staff admitted that he had mistakenly used up the food and gave them to everyone thinking it was a donation. (He said it was his second day on the job) Another staff who claimed that he was a "volunteer" said he will tell his manager about the issue the next day and promised for a refund. I waited for the call all day but it never happened. The second day, I finally spoke to the manager, James. He never explained what happened and said the receptionist, staff, and himself have "decided" that it was a donation after watching the video footage. However, he would not let us see the video. Please don't put yourself at risk in the place where no staff will take responsibility for their actions. P.S. Most of the staff are new and I think they stay there for free and work for the hostel. Also, staff members don't have authority to make any financial decision (refund etc..) which leaves you with one person, James the manager! You're not always right :) read more

The staff is incredibly friendly and accomodating, the place itself is very clean and there seems to be an unspoken rule of ensuring that other guests are respectful of each other. Julia I'm sorry but I'm sticking with My review .. the guys you have working there / staying there are no good shady thieves they was caught my my roommate stealing things out of our room when I was there they need to be fired I'm sry you don't see the things that goes on there but I'm telling you the in house workers there are no good one day you will see it then it will be too late. Just watch and see if more things come up my missing or broke into hopefully you will fix the problem.. yes I talked with you and you did refund me yes we had no problems but I have problems with your workers who were shady and rude to me the whole time I was there both the long haired guy and the dark skinned guy .. im sry you don't see what's going on there read more

I only stayed here one night, but I thought this was a fantastic budget friendly hostel. I stayed in the farmhouse, which was probably a lot quieter than the main house. I had no noise issues at all. The bedding was clean, (almost appeared brand new, in fact) and I thought the little welcome note on my bed was a nice touch. Front desk staff were very kind, and check in/out was simple and convenient. I didn't take advantage of any of the planned events or meals, but I probably would have if I'd been staying longer. I was able to find a free parking space just down the street, and the surrounding neighborhood was very quiet and seemed safe. I walked to the Gaslamp District and to Little Italy alone and felt perfectly comfortable. I would 100% stay at ITH again on any future San Diego visit. read more

Only needing a place to sleep before the SD Rock N Roll marathon, I decided to stay with this hostel which was pretty cool! I only stayed for one night but wish I stayed longer to join in the fun activities going on. I arrived around 6 PM and met up with a few visitors at the hostel, some in the common room and my suite mates, all very friendly. Because I already ate with some friends before arriving, I did not have dinner at the hostel but I sat in with some who did, and talked with them.. all very cool! The food looked good too. My suite was pretty colorful and youthful, reminds me of the dorms in college. Because I had to get up early the next morning for my marathon, I had to sleep early in which my suite mate was kind enough to turn off the lights to let me sleep. There were still stuff going on outside but the free ear plugs they provided helped a lot. Overall a very nice stay in this hostel. read more

Overall, I had a good experience here. I stayed for 3 nights in February of 2020. It's a party hostel- the volunteers that run the place like to party a lot, so if you're looking for a quiet place, I would look elsewhere. The hostel is located in a charming house and the facilities are well maintained and are clean. It's a great location that is within walking distance of the city center and Balboa Park. We stayed 7 nights although we first only booked 5. The hostel has an amazing vibe, it feels like a huge family coming together to eat the free homemade breakfast/dinner , watch a movie or go out to daily free activities. The young staff is absolutely friendly and you can have a great time with them. The hostel itself represents the colorful and fun lifestyle of the people and is really clean. The only thing you should pay attention to is to bring earplugs, because many rooms are out to the busy front street and seems many people arrive late at night and leave early because of the close location to the airport. Friendly. Clean. Sheets n towels. Warm water. Friendly n good vibe staff n guests. Beds are good. A bit cramped n could use an extra bathroom. Difficult if anyone has issues climbing stairs but perhaps they offer easier access rooms. Be sure to ask if thats a concern. Good hostal brkfast. Good ammt of hooks on walls n doors. More hooks n shelves always better. Well organized. Buutt...low water pressure for a girl w long hair....no bueno. My shower took too long bc of that. Heavy metal shower handle falling off...no bueno. It will injure someone one day. Mentioned to staff who stated the boss has heard complaint 6x and done nothing. first of all The people who are working or worked there were one of the best things in the hostel, and they serve free breakfast and dinner. Also, they have two activities per day, so if you never surf before it's your chance to do it. This hostel means so much to me that after I left, I felt so sad. Here you will meet people from all over the world, and hopefully, you become friends with or even more, and u might fell in "love" so be careful lol. I really miss hanging out there and meet a new people every day, but hopefully, I will come back. if you are a traveler or student and looking for a place to stay in san diego, this is the perfect place for you. I absolutely loved my stay with this hostel. I have stayed in hostels only in Nicaragua and Costa Rica. This was my first one in the US. Definitely more expensive than staying in Central America, but that's what you get for travelling in the US! Still cheaper than any hotel and well worth the money! This hostel was very clean, had the promised two meals per day, locking rooms, and even had shampoo and soap in the showers to use! Internet worked great. The location was perfect. I felt very safe around the hostel and walking around the city. If you don't mind a good walk, you can get anywhere by foot easily, the trolley, seaport village, the park, etc. The environment was very fun and friendly. I met so many different people while staying here and we all spent the nights hanging out as if we'd known one another forever! I would definitely stay here again. read more

Great hostel! As soon as I arrived I already felt that it would be a pleasant stay, and it was! The staff is helpful, friendly and there is a very laid-back atmosphere. I stayed in an 8-bed room, which was located outside the main building, It was a very spacious room, large locker to store valuables (bring your own lock), ventilators to cool you down (although I didn't find it too hot to sleep). Free breakfast and dinner were a really nice addition, really good food. Plenty of activities offered, although I didn't do many of them as I had a few things planned already. I went on the pub crawl, which was a great opportunity to check out a few bars and local beers San Diego has to offer. Definitely a great hostel if you're traveling alone and wish to meet different people, there are always people sitting outside reading/drinking a beer or inside the TV-room. Very close to Little Italy and trolley station, a little walk to the glaslamp district but on the upside a lot quieter at night as well. read more

Although I personally did not go on any of the organized trips, there were plenty to choose from and the staff were always happy to answer questions. This place. Where do I start? This place is a place where you can be a human being, connect on serious levels as individuals, or as a group. I'm going on my third week here. This feels like my home away from home here in San Diego. These people have been so personable with me. I had a situation where we had to check out at 11 a.m. we didn't get picked up until 11 at night. We stuck around and lounged all day. Slept on the couch, and when dinner came around they let us eat with them. Even seconds. I don't think they would just do that for anybody. I'm not saying I'm special. I just think this place gives you the opportunity to be genuine friends with the staff and guests. I had a moment last week where I played music for some of the guests and staff in the lounge room. I broke into tears after the song after seeing someone else cry. I just went through a break up. These people just comforted me through it. That is why this place gets a well deserved 5 stars. I can't speak highly enough about ITH and have been telling people on my travels about it since I left. The hostel feels like home, with friendly staff and guests, great free daily and evening activities, giving everyone a chance to get to know each other, with free breakfast and dinner each day. If you're anything like me, you'll be wondering what the catch is.. but there isn't one, the owners just know what makes a hostel work and they want their guests to have a great time. My friend and I loved it so much, we changed our trip to go back there for another week and hated leaving when we had to. In terms of location, it's in Little Italy, surrounded by bars and restaurants and a short walk to downtown or Balboa park. The hostel is clean, good wifi throughout (with ipads to use for free if you need them), comfy beds and the rooms are secure. Overall just a brilliant hostel and one you should not miss if you're staying in San Diego! read more

Stayed here in a recent trip to San Diego. Had a great time and met some great people. The atmosphere is similar to a first year dorm experience. I stayed in a four bed room with my friend. The room is secured by a digit code used to open the door and locks to use in the rooms. The lockers are small but big enough to fit purses and small valuables. The staff are polite and helpful, however check in can be hectic. They are super accommodating after check out by allowing you to store your luggage and hang out until you need to leave. The location is perfect, just a short uber ride from downtown and close to attractions. The hostel provides opportunities to attend group trips for free although I didn't take advantage. The atmosphere is open, casual and fun! It was cool being one of the few Americans there and hearing stories from other travelers from other countries. Fellow travelers were funny and cool and willing to hang out and transport each other. It's definitely a place to go to meet fun diverse people. Two meals are provided daily which is cool but I didn't take advantage of the meals so I can't comment on it, however the other patrons said it was good :). They need to work on keeping bathrooms stocked with toilet paper, but other than that it's good. read more
