My daughter goes here. This is by far one of the most dysfunctional schools I've ever seen. Small example. Mice in day on campus had landscaping trucks blocking half the roads. Meals plans make no sense, class schedules are very challenging to arrange etc etc. on top of that the cost is at the very top of the norm which makes it even more frustrating. Got in to all the schools I applied to. Have never regretted choosing Ithaca College for a second. Best 4 years ever. Met the best people, ate some great food, partied waaayyy too hard and learned from some of the best professors. The Writing Department is unbeatable. Would kill for a Senior Seminar redo. Go to Ithaca. It will be absolutely everything you could want from a college experience. read more

I miss IC so much! Great times socially, and a good academic experience as well. Did a semester in London and LA through the school's programs and got some great internships, experience (and still celebrate) Cortaca, made great friends, learned what a real snow storm is and even those get taken care of in two hours... This was an awesome party school back in '91-'92! I I lived in Lyons Hall and got kicked out of my room (actually it was the dorm lounge converted into a dorm room) for partying to much, then got moved to East Tower and got kicked out for partying too much, then got moved to New Hall and didn't get kicked out. Instead I got kicked out of Ithaca College for amassing a GPA of about 0.4 (yes, I said it) during my freshman year. Ha, ha! I've grown up a bunch since then... read more

This anecdote will tell you exactly how much Ithaca College cares about their students. Tuition is $40k a year, they charge students to park on campus and give outrageous parking tickets. After spending four years and $120k on his degree, the school would not send my partner's transcripts on to graduate schools because of an unpaid parking ticket. They also didn't have the courtesy to call and tell him that they weren't sending it. He only found out after the grad programs said they never received his transcript. You'd think that a college not known for its rigorous academics would do whatever possible to help get their alumni into graduate school. Instead they would rather bicker about petty amounts of money. read more

Ithaca College Athletics Facility was host of State Championship Swim Meet. Facility was excellent for very large swim event. Staff (which was mostly students) were highly professional and friendly; facility bathrooms and common area constantly kept clean and pool area wasn't ungodly hot. Parking somewhat far away (cant' imagine what it's like for college students) but otherwise the facilities were excellent. PS. Great views of Cayuga Lake (that can't really be seen for Cornell given their tall buildings); Ithaca College situated on a hill top makes for vast surrounding lands (filled with deer). Didn't eat any of the food as it all looked very unappealing but an outsourced professional caterer/vendor with better sales area upstairs could have made a fortune. read more

My daughter has really enjoyed Ithaca College. Her teachers have really taken the time to get to know her and she is excelling in her studies. The campus is in a beautiful city and as many great restaurants and boutique bed and breakfasts that make your visit even more enjoyable. She has been fortunate to make real and sincere friendships playing for the Varsity Women's Soccer Team for the past two years. Unfortunately the coaching staff is sub-par. She has received more guidance and encouragement, skilled training, support and encouragement summers away than while on campus with the team. I have observed that if you are not a favored player, you are irrelevant and mistreated. Quite unfortunate for what could be a program that enhances young women's college students strengths does the opposite.. read more

I graduated from IC in 92. A lot has changed since then. New buildings have been constructed. An amazing new gym and physical fitness center has been built. All of the roads on campus have been redirected. The bar in the campus center near the snack bar is now a coffee shop. There's a coffee cart in the lobby of Park Hall. The Snack bar looks like a Starbucks. The white paint has been removed from the Garden Apartments. New Hall has a new name. Fountain Day doesn't exist anymore. Of course these are all just superficial observations from an alumni. read more

I graduating from Ithaca was back in 1981. It was the best choice I could have possibly made. I got into several schools--some with a "better" reputation, and others more mediocre. When I visited Ithaca on a cool fall day, it was beautiful; one of the most picturesque campuses anywhere, but what really blew me away was the people. Everyone from faculty to staff to student were all so nice and really seemed like they were having a great time and a great learning experience. One of the unique thinks about IC is that was (and still is) "right sized"--not to big but not too small. You are welcomed and actually encourage to take classes outside your chosen major and chosen "school". This helped me get exposure to areas of study that I might not have ever been able to touch if I went to a "too large" school. I'm still connected to the school today and the family that you meet when you go there will stay with you the rest of your life. The College is more like a small residential university offering classes that you can't find in most small liberal arts schools. From the moment I first walked on campus and met people and saw classes, IC felt like "home"....and it still does today. I hope you will put Ithaca on your short list....you won't be disappointed! read more

Way too expensive for what they offer. It doesn't seem like the money goes towards anything useful.

I am a current student at IC and I can say with certainty that this school is a great place to go. The political beaurocracy can get a little crazy, but in terms of classes, clubs, housing and various things to do in Ithaca, this is a great school. I go to the Park School of Communications and the professors there put all of their effort into the students. One of the best comm schools in the country. read more
