Really cute airport. Very clean and well staffed. From check in to gate area all was super smooth. Large horseshoe bar with friendly staff. Just serving soft drinks, coffee, tea, wine and hard seltzer now. Sure they'll add more eventually. Gates are all together so you can't get lost. Lots of comfortable seating. No annoying background music or tvs blaring. TV screens have closed captioning. Thanks for CNN. Waiting to fly home to JFK. Couldn't be happier. So different from Delta T4 at JFK which is a shit show concerning food and Drink availability and crappy seating with no tables or cup holders. This airport makes you appreciate flying. read more

One of the smallest airports I've ever visited. It is a newer building with a generic feel. The best feature, it's convenient. Easy drop off, easy parking, and easy to catch the bus to town. Everything about this place is mom-and-pop. Locals running the No Name cafe, chummy staff, cops, TSA staff, etc... Small town folks, Big name city, welcome to ITH. The cafe and vending machines only sell Pepsi products. Gross. The cafe food is decent, I had cheeseburger and fries. I was the only traveler mid-afternoon, so everything was hot and fresh, cooked to order. Other perks: free wifi and the Muzak is top notch. And yes, I'm delayed here long enough to appreciate both of those. On a side note, the self-described "facilities manager" is a loud talker with too much time on his hands. His favorite activity is to mill around chatting up the other employees, from the airline counter staff to the custodian, to the cafe owner, "blah blah BLAH BLAH...." shut the yapper already, damn. I really want to give four stars for convenience, but airplane reliability and on time performance here is poor. I've had two out of three flights delayed, both causing missed connections. I suppose that's an airline issue, but it's on you too ITH. Next time I'll fly to Syracuse and rent a car. read more

Had an early morning flight out of Ithaca. There are no signs on highways indicating how to get to the airport!! But google maps did the job. Returning rental car was easy after hours. Everything else was easy. Despite being a tiny airport, did not need to walk on the tarmac. (they had a jet bridge) read more

This is probably the smallest airport I've been to so far in my life time. They're under renovation so you'll see ceilings bare and things are hanging from it. I think they have total of about 10 flights coming in and out daily. This is the airport you'll be coming through for Cornell University. Small airport or large cabin is my favorite game, thanks for playing~ This is the smallest airport I've ever seen as I flew into and out of Ithaca. When I flew into ITH, the process was easy because all I had to do was exit the very small airport. However, flying out from ITH was more of a challenge. 1) The security people take their job ~very~ seriously and thoroughly look at each bag and belonging, so even though there were a lot fewer people than at other airports, the security check took a while. 2) I had checked-in online previously, but my mobile ticket said my seat would be assigned at the gate. When I went up with the other people that also didn't have their seats yet, the employee was confused because the other seat-less people had a paper ticket and I had a mobile one. She ended up giving me a ripped-out piece of paper on which she wrote down my seat number. read more

While even large airports are decidedly chill, with everybody doing their best to be quiet so as to not cause a scene, Tompkins County Airport., aka ITH, is about as stress-free an airport , as you are likely to find. As the workers are not overwhelmed with huge crowds, they have time to be polite and attentive to any concerns you might have. In 30 years of traveling I've never been in airport. This review is strictly for the delta airline check in counter, the lady with the curly short brown/reddish hair with glasses. Where do i even begin, she was not manning the counter, had headphones on. Gave me my boarding pass but gave me the wrong one. When i told her it was incorrect, she said that cant be the pass she gave me wtf?! Then she asked for help, then blamed her counterpart for issuing the wrong one. 4 hour delay because 1. Mechanical glitch on the plane and they don't have maintenance crew scheduled at the time. (Had to wait 1.5 hrs for them to start their shift so they could fix the plane) Then 2. Fuelers fueled the plane in excess of 1000 lbs of fuel and they had to ask volunteers to leave the flight so it could take off. read more

There is NEVER anyone attending the bar in the secured area. They finally open TSA and you go through and cannot get a beer.

Though the location is very convenient and the check-in and security process is quick, unfortunately you run a high risk of having flights canceled due to staffing limitations. We had to reschedule on trip to DC twice before a flight was available. Additionally, no full sized carry ons are allowed because the planes are so small so be sure to check your bag. If you bring your full sized carry on to the gate and they check it for you, your bag WILL NOT be transferred with the rest of the carry on luggage for a connecting flight. You will lose your luggage unless you make sure they give it back to you. The staff will NOT notify you of this unless you ask them directly. read more

There's a small cafe before you enter security. Not many options, all cold and slim pickings but nbd, pick something up ahead of time it won't take long to get through security. Small airport. Some people that worked there did not want to seem to help. To people that are leaving Ithaca, please arrive early. It is not like other major airports where there are multiple TSA check ins. There was only one line opened and many people were taking their time, causing a huge line. If you need a snack, please carry change. There is one vending machine, and not much outlets for charging phones. read more

The appeal of this airport is its geographic convenience - the only reason to come here is if your final destination is Ithaca or one of the nearby towns. Keep in mind, this is a very tiny airport that is currently under construction, so they're doing the best they can. There is no air conditioning right now, but they have lots of big industrial fans going to keep things cool. The temporary restrooms are temperature-controlled and have nicer toilets/sinks than average mobile units. There are vending machines, a small nursing room, and power outlets, though most of the outlets are outside security. I was pleasantly surprised to find that rental cars are available here. There was no wait at security, but there's also no TSA pre-check; be prepared to remove your electronics from your bag. Stairs are used to board and deplane here, and if it's raining you may get a little wet between the plane and the building. All the planes I've seen here are very small, so even a typical carry-on roller bag will probably need to be checked. read more

Recently landed at this quaint airport. Although the size is small, it's very clean and has helpful staff. I think only very small planes can land here, our plane only held 35 people. The baggage claim has only one carousel for the bags. It was rather funny when everyone from my plane was waiting for their bags and all the sudden the conveyor belt stops and a woman yells "if your bags ain't here, meet me at the ticket counter for tracking of your lost bag." Other highlights are the very clean and modern bathrooms, two rental car counters and some lovely retro airplanes hanging from the ceiling. Overall a great little airport to fly into if you're going to a near by town. read more

This is definitely on the small side of tiny. Security is just plain weird, but the strategy is to arrive not too early. Why? It's closed if there are no flights within 30 minutes. When it is open, the line is typically long, as the people waiting there for a plane will proceed to mob the TSA crew. The trick is, if your flight is nearing last call, and you are at the back of the line, they will pull you out and bring you to the front. So oddly, it's incredibly efficient if you know how to play it. Not that there is anything to do, really, on either side of security. They have a convenience store in the lobby. Another downside is that it's incredibly hard to get a flight here on plane with a jet engine. Yes, folks, propeller airplanes. And if you have ever landed in one during a blizzard, I can tell you that those things can create a fear of flying in just about anyone. Small airports rock...tiny airports, not so much. read more

Small regional airport served by United, Delta and US Airways (Newark, Philly, Detroit). Security opens an hour before flight otherwise closed. There is a small cafe with limited hours (6am to 6pm I believe). Rental car service from Hertz and Avis. This is typical small airport where you don't ever need to be at the airport early and is really easy to get out of once you grab your baggage. If you do have to spend time waiting, there are plenty of places to sit - even thought the cafe closes early, the area with all the tables remains open along with a couple of vending machines. There are also couches to lounge in and plenty of power outlets. Ithaca is within reasonable driving distance of lots of little towns in the Finger Lakes region - we were actually staying in Binghamton where there is an airport, but for scheduling, it was easier to fly into Ithaca. Make sure you do a comparison of the three airports in the region (Ithaca, Corning, Binghamton) so you can figure out if scheduling vs. driving convenience works better for you. read more

A fairly mellow, very small airport, with a trivial drive to Cornell or Ithaca College. Get any food or beverages before going through security; past security, there's only 1 snack vending machine, 1 soda vending machine, 1 ancient TV, and bathrooms. There are rumors of a coffee carafe, but I didn't see it when I flew. Wi-Fi is surprisingly good. Car rentals are fairly efficient, but only one person per desk. As long as you don't figure on a coffee shop in the waiting area, this place hits the spot. read more

It's getting bigger and they are trying to plan in more flight destinations. It's convenient although more expensive. I did not expect it to be so small and got there more than 2 hours early my first time, which was before the airport even opened yet... There was nobody in line at security and no place for a line to even be because it was so small. So my advice, is don't be 2 hours early or show up before the airport even opens. But a worker saw me sitting outside and was very nice and let me in the airport early. Parking is really easy and there weren't signs pointing to where the airport is and I was quite nervous that I wouldn't know how to walk or take a shuttle there, but it's literally a 2-minute walk to the airport and you can't miss it. This airport is small, however it serves a smaller city. It easy to get in and out. I did my checkin online so I don't have to wait in lines other than TSA. That area is cramped at the terminal while the other area are spacious. The agent at the ticket counter saved me $30 on luggage check because she indicated I could take my bag aboard. Another agent walked around tagging carry on luggage at the terminal areas as a convenience. I had to wait several minutes to get my luggage when I arrived. I'm not sure why the wait seeing it was the only arrival plane at that time. read more

This is a great little airport. I flew out, and back in, here, and it was so...delightful. As in, I would be the only person there, and they would still speak politely and cheerfully as they put me through the formalities that would be demanded if there were 9, 000 people in line. "Please step up, and place your luggage here..." etc. So formal, yet so cute! And as my first time flying solo, they were very comforting, helpful, and great at assisting my questions ("so...now what?"). Great staff, clean facility, and not too out of the way. On both flights there were less than 3 people each, so I got to sit where I wanted to, fling my bags across the aisle, and stretch out. Can't beat _that!_ read more

Even though ALL the employees know each other because this airport is the size of your living room, and even though you get there 45 min prior to departure time, and even though you already paid for your checked bag online ahead of time, and even though your plane holds no more than 30 people, Trudy and the rest of the lovely Tompkins Airport employees will make you discard your expensive toiletries and send your "checked" luggage through the regular TSA line. Oh, and then you get to drag your luggage across the tarmat to the plane yourself. I hope she has an equally wonderful travel experience her next go round. read more

Completely inept, spend the extra time to go to Syracuse instead. Ithaca's airport epitomizes the idea of a shoestring operation. Last time I flew here to Newark, they delayed our flight 2 hours. So we went outside the gate to the airport cafe to get a sandwich. Without giving us any notice at all, they moved the flight up two hours to its original departure time. We only noticed bc we asked. When we asked if they thought the flight would be delayed again they said that the Newark flight was suddenly back on and they started to threaten to leave without us if we didn't get through security again with 30 seconds. Again they gave us no notice at all, nothing on the airport TVs to indicate that the flight's original time was restored. We rushed through security, ran out to the tarmac with our shows and belts in hand (Ithaca doesn't have pre-check), and barely got on the plane. Then, the plane proceeded to taxi on the Tarmac for an entire hour. They had to shut off the AC to conserve gas, and this was during the summer. So all of us were drenched in sweat for an hour. The airport staff was incredibly rude and unprofessional, but the lack of notice was absurd. It wasn't just my group, the entire flight of people was caught off guard by the flight being moved up 2 hours. Nobody had any notice and then (after I personally shouted to everyone there that Newark flight was back on and leaving now) the entire flight backed up the one TSA line, while the staff is threatening to leave us all. Time before that, they refused to scan my mobile ticket for no reason. They said I had to print it out. So I go to the ticket kiosk and the machine is broken. I ask the staff how I can print out the ticket at the airport and they only offered that I will probably have to miss my flight. That's their response any time they do something wrong. "Our ticket machine is broken, guess you'll miss your flight". "We have no idea when our plane is actually taking off and we're too lazy to tell you when we change it, guess you'll miss your flight". It's almost comical. I'm not a negative review writer kind of person, but I really want to make sure no one else has to go through the hassle. I'd suggest you try our Syracuse Hancock instead. It is an hour from Ithaca, but it's a nice drive, parking is reasonable, and flights are generally cheaper. The airport itself is also beautiful. read more

This is nice for a local airport. The flight selection isn't great obviously, and the planes that fly out of here are small (meaning, usually, that the pilots are less experienced), so I've had some harrowing turbulence experiences flying out of here. Check in, luggage, parking, etc. are all fantastic. It's small, but there's always a good number of employees working. If you're at Cornell. it's always easier to find a ride to Ithaca airport than to Syracuse :) read more

Convenience is key here. It's a typical small commercial service airport with one terminal and a fast transit time from curbside to the gate. The terminal is pretty nice and I have yet to come across any airport workers who weren't nice and courteous. Simply put, you can't go wrong going in and out of here! read more

Let me preface this review by saying I've never flown out of here; I've only picked people up and dropped people off. That said, the airport terminal is relatively new, very pleasant and makes good use of vertical space and light to create a clean, airy atmosphere. The airport is serviced by prop-driven aircraft as well as small regional jets (50-100 seats). Facilities are clean and well-maintained. If the parking lot is at capacity, you may need to walk awhile to get to the terminal (like 3 minutes from the lot's furthest reaches). It's never been close to capacity whenever I've visited. It's an easy-to-use place, as all airports of this size ought to be. read more

Small, quaint, tiny, are all ways to describe the Ithaca airport. As I'm originally from here, I've been through here multiple times. It's quick and easy, but the flights are pricey. On the upside, your parking is free for the first 30 minutes (that still amazes me!), and in the single terminal there is free coffee (serve yourself). Don't expect any amenities here, just some chair to relax in before you walk out onto the runway to board your flight. It feels small town, and there is nothing wrong with that. Tiny airport with no stores to look at while waiting for a flight. The security process is a little different than other airports--you show your ID and boarding pass once you step through the metal detector and not before. They also want shoes separate from the bins. The good thing about tiny airports, however, is you don't need to show up 1 hour before like most other airports. Just had the worst experience with my baggage ever at Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport! I had an amazing week and great trip but they managed to ruin it. See link for what my bag looked like when it landed in Ithaca Airport! I bought it the day before I flew. I went to talk to the baggage claim gentleman and he was nasty to me and inconsiderate. He then retreated behind a locked door where I could not speak with him. He did not offer any assistance what so ever about what to do with my bag. I had to carry it out of the airport like this. Some of my things are missing and ruined. It will be a cold day in hell before I fly out of the Ithaca NY airport. They clearly need to better train their staff in customer service. The level of service this airport offers by far exceeds what you'd expect from such a small airport. It's the first airport I've ever gone through where everyone is pleasant - even at 5am. Plus, I've never had such a mellow experience going through security. Ooh and they have a computer with free internet (along with free wireless). Ooh ooh and a really comfy lounge/waiting area. **Tips: Don't show up 2 hours before you flight and don't rely on getting a hearty meal, although they do have a small cafeteria. Also, when going through security, they don't like it if you put your shoes in the bins... it gets the bins dirty. (makes complete sense, but had never encountered that before) read more

This is the primary airport I fly out of since these days after factoring in gas and parking expenses it's just as economical to fly out of here than one of the larger airports (such as Syracuse or Rochester). You'll end up having to connect to a flight elsewhere unless your destination is Newark, Philly, or Detroit. Checking in and security generally doesn't take too long as it is a smaller airport. Getting there exceptionally early will result in a lot of sitting around as security opens about an hour before the flights and there isn't anything to do at the airport (shops, restaurants, etc.) But it is what it is, local flights out to hub airports that get you where you need to go. Never had. Bad experience here, just typical catch my flight and go. read more

HeyAll, I was at Ithaca Airport today working with the Delta Airlines crew. I just wanted to mention a "shout out" for a Delat staff member, a blond lady there who was amazingly helpful to me and my family when an unfortunate delay took place. Delta should be proud of her understanding and supportive assitance of their customers. Another staff assisted us in reconfiguring flight plans without a fuss and helped the stress ease away. Along with this, I also want to extend a "shout out" for the security crew you also assisted my family and were so kind about the mix-ups that were taking place, as my large family was really hoping for their support. It's pretty funny to me that people think that Ithaca is such a tiny airport. I guess they are used to airports like JFK or O'hare or Orlando. I'm a private pilot an I guarantee you that there are thousands of airports that are way smaller than KITH. Most airports don't even have a control tower, which Ithaca does. Ithaca's runway is almost 7,000 feet long and 150 feet wide, which is the same as the largest runway at Laguardia in NY. Services are available commensurate to the number of passengers that go through it. If they had a lot of retail space, the businesses in them would go broke. I've always had a good experience flying into KITH because I understand how these smaller airports have a hard time staying afloat and I don't demand too much. read more
