A rushing water sound made by the many waterfalls into the narrow canyon. I've traveled so many places, but I was awestruck at the beauty of this place. It looks exotic and out of place in Texas. Still, it was wonderful. It should be open to the public and protected at the same time. To get to it, walk the length of the Blanco River from either the north or the south. Really truly do not pass over private property. They will catch you and at the very least you will get a really expensive fine and Class C misdemeanor. They don't mess around. No one owns the river as the Blanco is known as a perennial River and these types of rivers cannot be privately owned. So, take the river from public property and walk up or down it to reach the Narrows. Don't litter as the place is pristine and really don't jump from the cliffs. We tried to be as respectable to the place as possible and left it how we found it. Please do the same when you find it.

I have been twice and want to go a few more times in this life while I still can. The water is perfect and clean, the canyon walls are pristine, and the area is quiet. I went to find it on the advice of a beautiful woman and it was worth the cost of doing so. It is extremely hard to get to if you don't have access from the surrounding property owners, and a sheriff will find you on your way out. I actually favor this situation by it has preserved the narrows, even though 99.9999% of people will never see or even know this spot. Life is not fair. I got an expensive misdemeanor after the second time. But I also took the beautiful woman with me the second time, and money can't buy happiness.

There's a nice long loop around the base of the rock top hike and there's the summit hike. The summit hike is the one that draws the crowds. On this occasion we opted to do the loop. The weather was pleasant, but got warm fast. There's not much shade, so prepare accordingly- sunscreen, hats, water. The trail is peaceful and quaint. We didn't see very many hikers or wildlife. The hike is relatively easy, until it isn't. At one point, I really thought we must have turned off the trail. We were down to single file, rocky terrain. I didn't remember this part of the trail so I'm memorializing my trauma now. Luckily, I was with a supportive and helpful partner who lead the way and helped me when I needed. Once we got passed that stretch of terror, we were home free! And then we had to traverse the parking lot clear to the other side. Come to find out, there's two ways to start the loop. Pro tip, park somewhere in the middle to trick yourself into feeling like the end doesn't last forever. Sign me up to go back on the winter!

Most of the trail is gravel used to access the primitive camping site. There is plenty of water right now thanks to all the recent rain. In addition to being a beautiful outdoor adventure you will discover some historical places along the trail including an old cemetery at the top of the hill and some ruins of an old ranch house. Jones Spring is a beautiful spot to stop for a snack or lunch break and swim - see pics! There is several other beautiful water spots along the trail to cool off as well. Wolf Mountain is a short 45 minute drive from Austin but a world away from city life!!! This trail is most easily found if you follow the Primitive Camping directions. Upon entering Pedernales State Park continue driving approx 3 miles into the parking area for Primitive Camping you will see the trail head at the end of the parking lot. Happy Trails.....

Chris was super busy because of the storms that pushed through the day before, but took his time and showed me the ropes. He related the lesson to things I was familiar with and made me comfortable with my body mechanics on the bike. He brought me to the skills park for a ride to get me in the groove and then we hit the trails. It was like having a buddy teaching me new skills. I can't say enough about my experience here, started on the greens and ended up finishing on mid-level blues. All the staff were amazing and helpful. I'll definitely be back, and will be bringing my wife and kid!

Due to COVID-19, it was one of the very few parks opened the weekend of my visit. It wasn't crowded, plenty of open space for social distancing. I was impressed with the cleanliness, even the picnic tables and park restrooms were well maintained. The park offers a nice view of the lake with lots of boating & jet skiing activities. Boat ramps are available on the park. The over night camping section of the park remains closed due to COVID-19 restrictions. I will definitely consider Arkansas Bend Park in the future for outdoor activities. Next time I'll be better prepared for some picnicking & BBQ, along with some extended fun in the sun.

The campsites are set on top of each other, therefore you will be within 10ft of another group. This would be fine if your neighbors are respectful. The restrooms (portapotties) weren't very clean either. However, the campsites did have plenty of shade, a table, campfire, and bbq grill. Could be a cool place if you're lucky enough to be near good people. We ended up leaving in the middle of the night. Unfortunately no refunds :(
