I paid $7,000 for what was supposed to be a highly personalized matchmaking experience, and I'm extremely disappointed. Out of the four matches I received, none reflected the standards I clearly communicated--particularly around fitness, attractiveness, and lifestyle compatibility. These are not minor preferences; they were core to what I was looking for. Even more troubling is that the company claims to refine matches based on client feedback after each date. In reality, that process did not happen. I discovered that new dates were being arranged before they had even received or processed my feedback from prior matches. That completely undermines the value proposition of a "customized" service. I raised concerns twice and was met with little more than, "we have another date for you," rather than any meaningful adjustment or acknowledgment. At this price point, I expected a thoughtful, evolving matchmaking process. Instead, it felt impersonal and inefficient. I would strongly caution others before investing in this service. read more

The people you talk to are very friendly and easy to talk to. They seem interested in getting to know you and genuinely want to help you find someone special. The matches are good overall though there have been a couple that were immediate no's and none really blew me away (granted I doubt that I wowed any of the women I met). If you're someone who has trouble meeting/approaching people and/or you have very little experience dating this is a great way to go (if you can afford the price). The only real problem is that every date is a blind date I rather dislike not knowing the whom I'm meeting. You don't get to talk to or see who they set you up with and that can be uncomfortable. As an introvert I can say that the experience IJL has given has been well worth the price even if I decide to take my new found experience and go my own way. I joined Its Just Lunch DC a few years ago and it consistently set me up with quality dates. Whenever I reactivated my account I would usually get two or three introductions each week and the people they matched me with were always kind and enjoyable to meet. If you start to like someone you should tell them to put your account on hold because they are very efficient and the dates keep coming. The service made dating simple. They arranged everything and I just showed up. No apps. No endless messages back and forth. Every date felt low pressure and even when there was no romantic connection it was still a pleasant dinner with a good person. NEGATIVE STARS. THIS IS A DESPICABLE BUSINESS. After repeatedly asking them to stop calling me (you would think after my review below they would know better), they continue to call. And when I politely say please take me off your call list they (Michelle, DC) rudely hang up on me without responding. I really wish they would go out of business. From reading other reviews, it appears I'm not alone. The amount of gaslighting in the responses is incredible. Someone even reported the exact experience with Michelle and the response from IJL was "oh that's odd, we'll look into that." I would like to be clear...it was not a big deal that the matches weren't great. That happens. But when I decided the bang wasn't worth the bucks, and communicated that I wanted to terminate my contract, that's when the nightmare started. The woman I was talking to literally said, do you not want to find a relationship? Is finding your true match not important to you? Total mind games, and she got angry when I didn't fall for it. It is the company itself, its business model, and the interactions with the employees that make it horrific. If everything goes wonderfully for you, great. But if you run into any challenges, which is pretty normal with dating, they are not the people you want in your corner. read more

I've had a positive experience with using IJL thus far. It's easier than trying to find compatible matches on the dating apps, joining different clubs, and it takes the "guess work" out setting up the dates, especially if you live at a distance from main city. I had an initial interview with Kim (who's the head of the DC chapter), and I found that she really loved her role and her work in the company (over 17 years!). This was important to me to see how committed the staff are at the company and if they were familiar with the dating dynamics of that particular city. I've enjoyed working with my advisors (especially Maggie). She's really personable and professional when it comes to setting up the dates and figuring out the next match for me. It can be tricky trying to set up a call with the advisors (in general) to provide feedback or setting up the dates, but I have been on consistent dates while I've been using the service. Regarding matches, a couple of them have led to extended conversations and more dates after the first date. It takes time to find the right match, but it's worth a shot if you're not meeting as many new people as you used to, don't want to meet people at bars/clubs anymore, want your matches screened before the dates, and are looking for a committed relationship. Each person I spoke with at IJL was nice, friendly and accommodating. Along the way we had some laughs and some good stories! Dating is just rough I guess! What I liked was having the opportunity to ease back into dating after a long relationship and recovery. It was a low pressure, low effort way to meet some prospects. However I began to question exactly where the matchmaking actually came in. The bios they read to me sounded great but the actual man across the table from me was frequently not as advertised and in several cases, I would have been able to tell over the phone - their energy level was just wrong for me. About mid way through my subscription I had a call with them to refine what I was looking for in terms of activity level and social skills but that didn't do much to move the needle. My final date was the best of them all but I felt like it was almost accidental on their part. Along the way I encountered several dates who were in the program for an extended period of time and my sense was they didn't have the same objectives as I did - it was more recreational for them than an actual attempt to find a partner. At the conclusion of my term I got passed to someone whose job it is to match members after their initial term and she promised me she had so many better men for me - a whole new crop of great guys! She was pretty insistent. Really I think her job is to prevent you from being a once and done client. Well my issue is if you didn't have the right guys for me 6 months ago you should have disclosed that and then activated my membership when the pool was well supplied! Another issue I had is they told me their policy is they find a location kind of in the geographic middle but on 2 occasions I drove over an hour and paid for parking and the guy walked 2-3 blocks! That was really frustrating. All in all, for the money I paid I didn't feel the value. It saved time and my personally reviewing a bunch of online profiles, taught me more about how my priorities have changed since the last time I was single and looking, and eased me in to dating again but I don't plan to return because the cost - not just of the subscription but also the time commitment to get ready, drive across town and spend 90 minutes or so with a clear "no" was too much. read more

This is a SCAM. They prey on the vulnerable and single. They are professional scammers and very good saleswomen who will scam you out of thousands of dollars. If you are able to get matches and dates off of dating apps, this service is not for you. This service is for people who cannot get dates at all, in real life or on the dating apps. They make it seem like they have a "wonderful clientele" but it's just weirdos who have no game and no ability to date. Save yourself thousands and spend that money on premium versions of the dating apps. Also, I tried to cancel the service the day I signed up, one hour afterwards and was denied and not once has anyone from upper management contacted me. Their concierge runs this entire business. I am a busy professional, and I don't have a lot of luck meeting women outside of OLD. Did get a call from IJL, and Camille did a great job explaining the process and asked what I was looking for. I did do my due diligence of looking at reviews but the mentality of me going into the service is to expect new connections of meeting women whom I otherwise wouldn't have met, whether they are a match or not in person I feel it is out of anyone's hands. The Matchmaker do take into account the search criteria and do give some recommendations and take feedback on future dates well. Buyer Beware. IJL is inventory management and you're the inventory. You want to meet Mr/Ms Right who's outside of your friend circle but is mostly like your friends, while IJL matches you with whomever comes through the door. Yes, your matchmaker has a lovely voice and warm, encouraging manner (hello Lindsay) but she's talking from a script, she doesn't live in the DMV, you wonder if she's heard a word you've said, and has product to sell. You will meet nice people who want a relationship, they might--or might not--have qualities that you've repeatedly stated that you are seeking, but if IJL doesn't have someone who possesses qualities that you've paid a matchmaker to find for you, they'll match you with whomever they've got, you will have NOTHING in common with that person, but he's in their database and they have contracts to fulfill. SAVE YOUR MONEY and WORK IT. Ask your friends to introduce you to the one single gal/guy they know (s/he's actually nice); join a sports league; go to church; start a MeetUp book group; hiking club, and mix it up as much as you can. It's more work, but at least you'll have something in common and you won't have to drive to Dulles or Richmond or Baltimore to meet them and wonder what in heaven's name IJL thought had in common other than that you're both members of the human species..... read more
