This is a SCAM! Be prepared for your specified criteria to be completely ignored, you're lucky if a date possesses one or two elements of your requested criteria. When you point this out or complain about the lack of quality matches be prepared for a saccharine sweet squeal of, "He met all your criteria!" When, in fact, the date was anything but adhered to your criteria. You will get nothing in terms of professionality when you question services; again, you will only get scripted phrases such as "it's a learning curve" "you may meet 'the one' on your next date... He's perfect for you." Additionally, they are quick to feign ignorance when you point out criteria discrepancies- either they keep terrible records of interviews and client preferences or they simply are ignoring your requests and trying to force you to date outside of your preferences. They will try to send you on dates with anyone with a pulse, do not expect an inventory of successful, attractive singes. Expect long periods with zero communication or contact- they are just winding down the clock to complete the scam. Additional note- caliber of restaurants for dates also is not as advertised. Expect unresearched inconsistent locations, distance outside of your requested parameters, diner/fast food like atmosphere. Do yourself a favor, research complaints, class action suits, and BBB. I have had a great experience with IJL. I went on significantly more dates than I could get with the dating apps. In my first 3 months with the service, I have had 12+ matches. Its hit or miss like in real life, but it guarantees you are meeting new people all the time. I also really like that they schedule the dates and pick the locations - it takes the coordination out of it. My only critique is that I wish I could see photos of the guys first. Physical attraction is important and its a hard thing for someone else to account for. Overall, I appreciate their professionalism and supportive guidance throughout the process. The sales pitch is perfect. Kim is very knowledgeable and you feel like that's the quality of service you're going to get throughout. Hold on tight because it's downhill from there. People actually matching you must be in their 20s with no life experience and full of unconscious bias; that was my experience. Plus, they make it clear they are not catering for women. They don't listen to you and what you're looking for if you are a woman. I was told what I was looking for is not out there, for example. I was discouraged from giving it any try to the matches. If you are a black woman (or any person of color) this service is NOT for you. The cultural sensitivity in the IJL organization is appalling and they DO NOT LISTEN. They will even send potential candidates with axes in their photos which is what happened to me. Myself and my close friend (another black female) are completely disheartened and even surprised by our negative experiences. IJL provided the following excuses concerning my membership: 1. Sent on a date at a CLOSED restaurant (IJL excuse: we don't have any control over the restaurant; we are sorry it was closed...it happens) 2. Date looked 10 years older than his picture (IJL excuse: we need to get that updated) 3. Given misinformation concerning the date (IJL excuse: matchmaker Debra....I'm so busy, it was a mistake, I'm swamped) 4. Requested a matchmaker of my same ethnicity who would better understand cultural nuances (IJL response: originally IJL rep Connie said "Sure" to my request; assigned new matchmaker shortly thereafter who was not black, contacted Connie again inquiring why this matchmakers was assigned...she indicated they made the executive decision not to honor the request because there were no black matchmakers in my region; weeks later spoke with Julie from exec team and she said they would never be able to honor my request for a black matchmaker and she didn't know why Connie would tell me that) 5. Sent a picture of potential date and gentleman is standing in front of an axe (IJL response: rep Michael dismissed my concerns with a chuckle and indicated context about this candidate should have been provided about this candidate and he would speak with the matchmaker) 6. Told candidate had advanced business degree when asked what school he attended matchmaker Amy indicated he received his degree from a trade school 7. Date was a complete NO SHOW 8. Julie from executive team called me after posting my initial review with BBB. We arranged to a formal time to speak at which time she was dismissive and kept cutting me off. She asked me what was going on. I got to date #2 in my experience when she starting talking over top of me and interrupting me. This conversation led me to tears because it reminded me as a black woman how our voices are rarely heard. Throughout the entire duration of the membership no one listened and everyone kept making excuses for their poor choices (misinformation, closed restaurants, catfishing, etc.) and dropping the ball. I never thought I would have to endure such treatment when paying for a professional dating service. The corporate culture of any organization starts with the head. After speaking with Julie from the executive team, it became clear the modus operandi of the organization is one of promise without any intent to execute rather to simply provide excuses. The standard of the IJL organization is to disregard their clients and be dismissive of their VALID concerns (number 1-8 above HAPPENED and IJL acknowledges they happened), and refuse to take accountability and onus for their errors. After speaking with Julie, I gained a deeper understanding of how this organization devalues its clients and down right just doesn't care. Throughout my experience, IJL had no intentions of hearing, nevertheless offering reasonable solutions for my concerns. IJL, at some point the excuses need to stop! I did as told. 3 weeks later I was told that I needed to provide all the information on my license or we could not begin the process of membership initiation. I asked for my membership fee to be refunded since I was unable to join. I was met with stern "NO"!! So know I am out huge sum of money and no membership either.And upon further discussion, the ladies, to my surprise, are behaving in a very caustic, defensive and bellicose manner. I employed them and their service was substandard. Very excitable women would call me acting as though they found a very good fit for me and every single date- and there weren't many for what I paid, was nowhere near a good match for me. I wondered if they even checked my criteria or were just sending me men who had a pulse. It took me over a year to post this review, because I was, honestly, devastated and humiliated. My goal for writing this post is to protect women, especially women of color, from experiencing further trauma in this horrific dating market, please AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS! This company deserves zero stars and more law suits! IJL is a complete scam. I ended up paying over 7k for a 10-month membership, sold on the lie that I would get no less than two matches a month. After meeting with a clueless matchmaker (whom I spoke to once), I was set up on only one of the two dates they lured me in with, which was a bust, like most of the once-monthly dates to follow. I was even so disgusted by the lack of proper hygiene of one of their referrals, I had to take a two-month break. My only correspondence after my initial matchmaker "consultation" was with Brandi, a glorified admin assistant who sounded like she was constantly fighting the urge to giggle uncontrollably; perhaps she was tickled by the idea of exploiting women's desire to form real connections for financial gain. I was also supposed to receive monthly advice from a "dating coach", whom I later found was the only coach available for the entire company and had no real credentials to back up her supposed expertise. Shockingly, I spoke to multiple men who told me they were begged to join and only paid a monthly subscription that was MUCH less than what I paid. As a matter of fact, I have not found anyone, man or woman, who has stated that they were charged the same rate that I was charged. To me, as a women of African descent, this reeks of an EXPLOITATIVE PREJUDICIAL practice. Several men also shared that they were being inundated with dates several times a week. So this rip-off company sells you on a streamlined match-making experience, but only exacerbates an already challenging dating scene by giving women, particularly women of color, paltry goods, while spoon feeding men with dates every other day. They're subjecting certain men to an even greater tyranny of choice, while the women are reinforced the lie that we ought to settle for whatever we can get, even after we've paid a premium. I never imagined I'd be asked to pay for a "service" that makes finding love in the DMV even more difficult! What's frustrating is meeting men is not the issue for me. In fact, I've met more men on dating apps and out at my local bars over the last few months who have shown sustained interest. What IJL advertises is a more curated and thoughtful dating experience, which is what I was looking for. Unfortunately, IT'S JUST A DAMN LIE! I would have been satisfied if IJL would have put in half the effort that they sold me on, even with no sustained connections. If they had an ounce of decency as a company that provides what they advertise, they would offer to refund at least a portion of the inflated rate they charged me. I really don't understand why "Stacy" is all over Yelp trying to act as if It's Just Lunch is a decent and respectable business. Anyone who is considering this business, PLEASE research their legal history and look elsewhere. If you're paying more than Bumble premium for this service you are being RIPPED OFF. read more

I tried It's Just lunch because it seemed like a good and safer way to meet people in-person than the dating APPS. In the beginning I was very excited and their interview process and ID checking made me feel like they would really try to match me with someone that would potentially be of interest and a good match. This absolutely did not happen and I feel I wasted $5,200 dollars! Yes, that is how much they charged me for really just a few LOUSEY dates. It was a terrible experience. Not only did they never set me up with a person that I would have enjoyed dating, but after a few dates they told me all about a person that sounded like an exact match. It truly got my hopes up. Just a couple days before that date was set to happen I received a call. The woman, connected with It's Just Lunch, asked me if I would be interested in her going out into the community and actively searching for a true match for me...Isn't that what they were supposed to be doing?? Anyway, the pitch was long and sounded great, but in the end she told me this intense search just for me would be $30,000...Yep, $30,000! So, I said no and I would just go out on the next date that I had already paid for and that he sounded wonderful. They next day they called me and said he had pulled out and was not avaialble anymore. Hmmmmm....something was not right. However, I went out on a couple more blah dates, then they called me to tell me that another amazing match was being set up. Guess what? Two days before the date they called me to ask if I wanted to extend my contract for another $2,100...They promised this round I could get actual feedback from the dates. Why would they not have given feedback before...You need to extend to hear actual feedback...What the heck! I said no and that I was excited about the date they had set up. Guess what?? That date did not happen because the person suddenly moved out of the country....what??? So many lies. My conclusions: 1.) It's Just Lunch is a horrible scam. They don't really want you to match, because then you and your will money go away. 2.) Two of the dates I went out on were definitely just men they had hired so they could meet their quota promised to their clients. It was very obvious on the date. 3.) They make up profiles to match your preferences, say they are setting you up with these amazing men, then ask for more money. When you turn them down those wonderful sounding people disappear. 4.) They are making victims out of honest and genuine people who just want to meet someone. It is sad and I feel completely robbed of $5,2000. Matchmaker stated she wasn't aware and to discontinue the relationship asap. Several months no contact no dates. New matchmaker and no returned calls and no dates. New matchmaker. Got a date but definitely not a match. No communication for months and another matchmaker appears. He first set me up with a man who was married - again no care about what I'm looking for. This will be your true process! Matchmakers continue to leave and months pass with no communication. Most recent matchmaker quit and I got a new matchmaker-Tanya, the worst so far She never called me just sent me the profile of a 63 year old man - my new date because she sees a connection yet she has never spoken to me or read my profile apparently. This program is terrible! A refund is deserved. I've left several messages to speak to a leader yet no one calls back. They know what I am going to say. Nationally there have been class action lawsuits. I am reading that they just pull guys in from anyplace. That sounds accurate based on my experience. This program needs to be shut down. Brandi, my matchmaker with IJL works very hard to find compatible matches for me. Most of them result in a nice dinner, with someone new, a nice several hour conversation, at a restaurant I haven't been to before. And is very enjoyable. Some of the meetings lead to continued conversations. Also occasionally a second or third date. One lead to a brief relationship, but some incompatibilities were discovered. Its not easy to find the right person at an older age like mine. But I'm confident the right one will come. There is currently nice conversation with someone I'd like to know better. I joined several months ago and have been on consistent dates with matches that are aligned, mostly, to what I am looking for. Although finding the right person takes time, I believe that IJL does a great job with connecting like-minded individuals that have the same aspirations for finding a person to start a relationship with. It is an intricate and delicate thing...to find love. I believe that IJL can widen that aperture rather than the outdated and inconsistent dating apps. If you have the opportunity and can afford the membership, I say, why not give it a try? Most of the staff I have interacted with has been helpful, easy to talk to, and answers questions/concerns I may have throughout the process. The only downside is the lack of communication when it comes to providing feedback. When I first signed up, the company reiterated several times the importance of calling in feedback about the date. For a couple of months it was difficult to get anyone on the phone.
