I have been ordering from here for over 15 years and the food quality is just as good as it was the first time I had it. This is a family owned business and the entire family is amiable and warm. The owner, Brian, is an absolute sweetheart. The vibe inside is quaint, cozy, and cat themed. The chicken wrap (with free range chicken) has always been my favourite but everything I have ever tried from here has been great. They also have many ice cream flavours and usually have freshly baked butter tarts as well as a couple different kinds of cake slices depending on the day. This café is so adorable! Cat themes are everywhere and it's very relaxing and pleasant place to be in. There is a guitar and piano that customers can play, which are very enjoyable. Very lovely owner who likes to crack some jokes! Most seating is up a set of stairs and most tables sit 2-4 people on them. The coffee is really good and may end up being one of my go to places from now on, nothing like what I am used to at other cafes and they have it available for purchase! I had an egg breakfast sandwich (egg, onion, tomato - mine didn't have tomato), which was also really yummy. There were a good selection of sandwiches available as well as baked goods. I guess people come here for the atmosphere and the cat decor but the beverages were average. If you look up at the air vents they are super dirty so this place could use a deep clean. A Markham hidden treasure. I ordered a London fog and my date had a Green tea. Locals will regularly come by and have a quick chat with "Brian" the owner. Interesting it is seeing the dynamics this cafe. We dined upstairs reading cat books that were near the T.V. They also have an electric piano, and a washroom at the end of the hall. Nice cute little neighbourhood coffee place which set up like some one house... a really homey atmosphere with tons of cats and kitten decorations all over the place! This place is really cute, as it's a nice and cozy cafe with lots of decor that makes it feeling clustered but a homey feel. I only had a drink (latte) which I still quite enjoyed. Espresso was not overly strong, which I didnt mind at the time even though I do prefer stronger coffees. That being said, I did appreciate the cat cocoa powder sprinkle on top as it fits their theme! Nice spot to have deep conversations with one friend, and I do mean one because it's a rather small place (which is normal as it's at main street). Havent tried their food so cannot comment. FOOD/DRINKS I only got the Catticcino and my friend got two scoops of ice cream. The cappuccino was full of flavour and was nice hot. It also had a cute cat design on top of the milk foam. There is also a nice selection of pastries but the supply and selection varies each day. The owner will try his best to make any adjustments to your salads or sandwiches! SERVICE/OTHER Friendly service and you can tell that the owner really knows the frequent patrons and their orders! It was nice seeing locals visit this place and chatting up a storm together! There is also seating outside of you want to soak up some sun. However, I would recommend checking out the decor inside on the second floor, it really adds to the atmosphere of the whole cafe. This is the transformer of all coffee shops in the Greater Toronto Area. Why? Well because from the outside looking in this modest coffee shop looks to be just a simple front counter and 2 chair shop... kind of like a take-away spot. Then you walk inside and BOOM! a set of stairs opens before you revealing a loft space filled tables and chairs, enough to easily seat 15-20. Take THAT Markham Main Street Starbucks!!! So you settle into a spot and go back down the stairs and take a look over the menu... and it's QUITE the menu. By my count it extends to over 5 white boards of options. All basic foods you would expect in a coffee shop BUT with a certain X-factor. Their meats (chicken, beef, pork) are all FLOSS certified (Fresh, Local, Organic, Sustainable, Seasonable), from local free-range farms. I spoke with the owner (Brian) and his claim is that he's been buying his meat like this long before it was trendy to do so. While I didn't have a chance to order some food this time (I had JUST eaten) I did order my go to caffeinated Americano and was plum shocked when it came to $2.50!!!! Take that times TWO Starbucks!!! After reading all positive reviews about this cafe, I came here for coffee with a girl friend on a snowy Saturday afternoon at around 4pm. The cafe is tiny but comfortable. Most seatings are provided one floor up. The place was quite busy when we arrived. Luckily, there was one table available. We tried cappuccino, latte, regular coffee and pancakes. They are not superb but good price, very friendly service, free wifi and comfortable atmosphere make this cafe special. There are lots of cats decorations. Facility: Located on just off Main Street in Markham, there is a parking lot in the back if needed. The store front isn't highly visible so it may be hard to spot. You'll see a furniture store before you see The Cat's Meow. Inside, the establishment is very homey, cozy, and casual. Lots of kitschy cat decor the space isn't very big. There is a little seating upstairs, holds less than 10 patrons. Food Quality & Price: All Day Breakfast is available, as well as a lunch and dinner menu. We stopped by for a quick lunch so we ordered the chili and Soup of the Day (both come with toast). Soups were delicious, and toast is homemade with butter. We also ordered the Apple Pie (which came with ice cream) and it was to die for. Freshly warmed with some tea in a pot on the side. Total rang up to just over $10 a person which was not bad at all. Service: I believe we must have been served by the owner who was friendly and attentive. He brought us the food and drinks while manning the front when new patrons arrived. Overall: On a Monday afternoon, I was really disheartened when I couldn't find a decent lunch place that served afternoon tea. After skimming reviews on Yelp, we decided to try out The Cat's Meow. Although it might not have been the "romantic/fancy" atmosphere we were looking for, the food and service certainly satisfied our hungry tummies that day. Cat's Meow is a cute little local cafe. The neighbourhood charm is in your face, with many cat pictures, decor, country-styled furniture, and in December, an upside-down Christmas tree hanging from the roof! The owner is a friendly gentleman. A lady made me a delicious home style breakfast sandwich ($3). The coffee was okay, and it was fairly priced at $1.50. I love that the atmosphere is similar to T&T Bakery on the south of the Main Street, but this is a cafe and T&T is a diner. If you are in the mood for a neighbourhood short break hang out type of place, Cat's Meow fits the bill. I probably will try their lunch next time. BTW, it sells Kawatha ice cream on cone and in cup. A cool little cafe / ice cream shop. I drove by this place for the longest time and never tried it - glad I finally did. I like the fact that it's a local independent shop. It looks like a former house converted into a cafe. I had one thing in mind tonight... Ice Cream. The nice weather seams to be giving me ice cream cravings. They had about 20-25 Kawartha ice cream flavours to choose from. Prices are very good - $3 for a small cup, but the small is plenty. You can also get soft ice cream or slushes if you prefer. They also have a good mix of coffees and baked goods including muffins, cakes, pies and cookies. There was one gentleman working this evening and he was incredibly friendly. Not sure if he's the owner but I got the impression he might be. The place has a cool design - you order on the main floor (just two tables on this floor) but most of the seating is upstairs. Some tables and chairs placed outside if you prefer some fresh air. The cat decorations are a bit much for me, but I guess it's a selling point for some. This cafe is lovely - it's cozy and warm, even during these cold winter days. They use heaters around the space to keep the temperature nice and toasty. The man at the counter was funny and friendly - made us feel welcome. We came around 4pm on a Sunday and it wasn't too busy just a couple of families hanging out in the upstairs dining area. The coffee prices are low - $1.50 for a regular size drip coffee (and the prices include tax). The coffee had a nice strong flavour to it - a medium-dark roast. Their soy latte was $4 - it was my first time having a soy latte so I can't judge whether or not it was a good one but, based on what I had here, maybe soy lattes aren't for me - it had a woody vague soy taste. I also tried one of their raspberry yogurt muffins - it tasted "healthy" - like oats - & fruity but not the freshest - maybe a day old? Where does a cat go when it loses its tail? A RETAIL store. Badum chhhhh. Welcome to a land of crazy cat lady kitsch with a purrfect selection of excellent coffee and tea. This is one of those places that you've walked by for years and never gone into because...well, it doesn't look all that exciting from the outside. Give your Judgey McJudger self a kick in the pants, because you've been missing out. ATMOSPHERE Cat lady. All those cat trinkets that you see in the flea market or that remind you of your grandma? They're in here. Hanging out with some garden gnomes, waiting for winter to pass. I don't know if they change their decor around but the garden gnomes have taken up residence next to a lawnchair and umbrella on the astroturf above the door, just to remind you that you're not in Cuba. Don't question it. Nor the cat clocks on the wall, the cat quartz light, or the cat shaped salt and pepper shakers. Just don't. Just accept that you can has cheezburgers. With six little adorable tables and two easy chairs, seating is good for two, three, possibly four at one table. Attempting a larger group? Hedge your bets and ask lady luck for some applaws. FOOD Surprisingly, all day breakfast is available for the peckish, along with sandwiches, homestyle muffins, cookies and pie, and a full rack of Kawartha premium ice cream. All the things you could really crave in a land of benign cat-tatorship. The variety of coffee blends on call is surprising and I expect to go back to try some new light tasting flavours. The tea selection is not as fancy as Ye Old Curiosity, but the bagged tea is nonetheless good quality with enough variety to give yours truly some pause. I ordered the dark blend tea bag that the owner said would mimic coffee without the caffeine. It did not taste like coffee, but neither did it taste like English Breakfast, Earl Grey, or Orange Pekoe. I liked it enough to inquire about the price, which was $10 for a box, a normal price for premium bagged tea. I will be back later to retrieve it. Oh, and he had soy milk for me, woohoo! SERVICE One of the owners, who was charming and lovely to the children coming in for ice cream with Mum and with my party of two. A personable and considerate man who didn't hover but remained available if needed. LOCATION Located off a side street on Markham Main Street, it isn't easy to see immediately, but don't judge Cat's Meow on its nondescript entrance. Not with Kawartha and Manitoulin Island jams and nut butters inside. Green P is plentiful if you can't find street parking. They also have a private lot. Accessible by viva purple with a less than ten minute walk from the corner of Markham Road and Highway 7. This is one of the coolest little cafes ever. My friends and I came by last winter quite randomly, but it was very nice discovery! First off, when I say a little cafe, it's quite little. A relatively smaller area right when you enter and an upper level that has about 2-3 tables. Despite the lack of space, it is decorated to the brim with cat decor and gives you a very cozy vibe. The upside down Christmas tree from the roof was a super cool use of space too! The coffee here was bomb though, freshly brewed and hit the spot on a cold winter day. The food was great too! Ordered a sandwich and had it made to order. Everything was fresh and local, which made it quite refreshing to see. The most surprising element though was the price. A very affordable price for a smaller, private cafe. The owner was the only one there at my last visit, but he was super nice and did everything himself! This place is pretty cool. I came here with a couple friends, and I could fit 7 people in the upper area no problem. If you're worried about room, there are about three tables in the upper area. I got the cattucino and the pancakes, and my friends got ice cream. The portions for the ice cream are big even for a small, which is pretty good. The pancakes were delicious. But the cattucino, though cute, was extremely bitter and I could not finish it. The decorations were adorable and they had an upside down Christmas tree hanging from the ceiling when I visited. The place overall has a homey and cozy atmosphere. Overall, I give this place a 4/5 because everything was great, but the cattucino was the most bitter thing I've ever tasted (though it may have just been due to a small error, or my tastebuds just can't handle anything remotely bitter). While enjoying the stroll along a historical suburban community of Main Street, Markham. All along this road, the architectures of these magnificent buildings have remained unchanged since it was founded in 1794. We popped in today to get an ice cream after the farmer's market was taken down because I noticed the Kawartha Dairy sign through the open front door. Unfortunately, I don't know if it is the heat or what but I asked for their smallest sized ice cream and asked for a kid's size if they had it (the prices were not posted) the two ladies behind the counter didn't know and were asking each other but in the end couldn't give me an answer, I just said small would be fine and I got my ice cream but no smiles. Went here twice; first time with a friend and second time without. The first time around, the guy was super nice, attentive, all around had an amazing customer service work ethic. Coffee was good, food was good, decided to come here again. The second time around, the guy was annoyed with me. Didn't really understand why I was just asking him questions about the washroom and the food that was served, and it wasnt busy either. If I were to give him the benefit of the doubt, id just say he had a long day beforehand or maybe something in his personal life happened.
