The store itself is quite charming and very eccentric. I was easily able to find items to purchase for my grandsons as I was visiting San Francisco and wanted to get them some souvenirs for them. A security guard was posted inside the entrance (which will be significant here in a moment.) My purchase was completed by paying with my Discover card. I did not require a receipt (DUMB) because I had already received the text alert that my payment was processed. After leaving the store casually, I got about 5-6 stores down the sidewalk when I heard the clerk behind me, "Ma'am, ma'am your payment didn't go through!" Which I was confused about, but if that were the case, I wanted to correct the situation. Why did she herself chase me? Why didn't she tell the security guard to fetch me? The clerk claimed that my transaction was "pending" (Isn't that how that works???) So, wanting to make my life easier, I offered to pay with my debit card, determined I would contact Discover to get that charge reversed if it did eventually go through (WHICH IT DID). The clerk then claimed that my debit card had been declined (WHICH IT WASN'T) as I had received the text alert for that transaction too! Another clerk joined the group and claimed we'd have to scan it all again on a different computer and charge a different card. Well, but this time I knew I wasn't going to offer a 3rd form of payment. The debit transaction has now been completed as well even though IT'sugar claimed it was declined. In short, I did not get ANY merchandise from this store, and I've paid for it TWICE. Proceed with Caution and always get your receipt! read more

Super fun fun fun candy store right on the strip by Fisherman's Wharf. The store is huge - very cute, nice and bright, colorful... Everything you would want in a candy store. It was laid out nicely and it was easy to see all the choices. The two employees were so kind and helpful and cheerful. There were sooooo many choices of what to get. I felt like, well, a kid in a candy store! I bought some Silky Gems that I had been wanting to try and some other bits and bobs. They have retro candy, modern candy, sodas, things from overseas, pick/pack your own.... Anything you could want. Be sure to check the prices as you go. Pretty much a known chain at this point at most tourist spots. The store has a decent selection of nostalgic and popular candy, but I don't think the white Apple store approach works when they could have a much larger inventory and assortment instead of smaller amounts spread in the white sterile shop at heightened prices. They need more niche, rarer, or regional favorites to really be the "world's largest candy department store." Nothing from different countries (we search for violet crumbles and coffee crisp) they have a small selection of pez, mostly newish ones which is nice. I found 4 actually that I wanted and I have over 400 at home. They were $3.99 or 2 for 7 I think which is a bit pricey, almost double a normal store. They had probably every candy you would want. They have pineapple gummy bears which I love when I can find the packs of just pineapple. They had all kinds of shaped gummies I never have seen like puzzle pieces and burgers and coke. They even had trail mix types station like dried fruits and nuts. This was a huge store with two floors and is very new. The old one down the street was also still open at the time (June 2025) but I'm assuming they will close that one. read more

My family and I stopped into IT'SUGAR since we were walking the pier and came across this cute and fun little shop. Seriously?? How can anyone say no to all of this cuteness or to sugar in general??!! This joint is absolutely visit worthy even if it's just to get some really cute pics!! Here you will find all things cute, quirky, and unique. Lucky for me, I came across Jim, who conjured up a bit of conversation. He was friendly, energetic, and I appreciated his honesty when I asked for his input on a few items. Purchases of that day included loose candies sold by weight, a pair of dolphin chopsticks for my toddler, Lil' Nitro [the world's HOTTEST gummy bear], and a sucker that contributed a bit of the cost to Make A Wish foundation. Shout out to Jim who attempted to warn me about that damn gummy bear. Lolz. Lil' Nitro absolutely kicked my butt!! I'm not mad that I tried it but I won't be doing that ever again!! He was very kind and asked if we needed any help. I got myself peanut and brownie M&M's and paid almost 9$, which is a little too expensive in my opinion. Anyway, I definitely recommend you swing by! I got a bag of candy and walked up to the registers with my partner only two were open but a line was forming and worker opened another one and I walked right up to it and put my bag down and continued talking to my partner. My bag was 1/4 full so when she said 16 something I was surprised but this is a tourist area. Only once I checked my receipt half way out the door did I see two items were scanned. I went back to the register and she wasn't there she was back on the floor and said it must have been scanned already when she rang me up. They have everything from Japanese brands, Old fashioned brands, mainstream brands, and more. They also have 3 floors of colorfully designed rooms. Staff was nice and helpful. The downside is that some of the candy sections were not age appropriate. For a place that will attract families and children, they should avoid sexual themed candies. They need to separate the adult candy into another store or section so I don't have to explain to my kids about weird candies. Service was terrible, everyone just watched you- nobody says Hi, need help with anything, employees just eye you and talk to each other. We came in on a Tuesday around 430pm it was slow inside this store. The cashier was extremely rude. Out of the entire line, she told my kids who didn't even move up yet, to wait stop right there give ppl some privacy at the register, like we did something wrong. I had a stroller and my kids were standing on the side we weren't around nobody! Then Apple Pay doesn't work at her register but she failed to say anything like that. My only quam was right in the middles of the store where they had the bins to bag your own candy by the pound there was a candy string bikini. Like NO! We went inside to buy some canddyyyyyy! However, it wasn't until we got to the check out that our happiness went downhill in this sugar store. We approached the cashier to buy some jelly candy in a bag. When I hand the cashier the candy bag she tells me it's like $10 to pay which I proceeded to get my wallet out and pay at the same time. My son is snagging on me asking for the candy so I asked for the candy bag from the cashier to give to my son while I pay and she refused. She said I cannot give you the bag because our policy is you have to pay for your candy first before we hand anything back to you. Which I thought was so weird and unheard of I then decided that I wasn't gonna take the candy anymore at that point she tried to say OK and then hand me the candy which it was too late so I left and went to the next. It's sugar up the street where the staff was a lot nicer. Didn't even question me on it spoke to a manager and everything was better I guess but yeah, just don't run into that one don't run into that cashier Stephanie she definitely made me feel very embarrassed and uncomfortable. There was another employee working by the name of Becky. She was amazing. She redirected me to the second store and was so sincere about the situation. She is amazing and is a great example of what a sugar employee should provide in customer service.... (so sad. This candy shop is also great eye candy. So many amusing treats and candy-flavored items you didn't think existed, like Oreo popcorn. Lots of cute things that, as the window says, are perfect gifts for friends. I was looking fir a item and the girl at counter said you didn't have except the guy on the floor he said he was new I didn't get his name but he pointed me to an item similar by a different name.
