I can't give The Candy Store anything less than 5 stars due to their incredible candy selection. I think they carried all the heavy hitters of Swedish candy in every flavor imaginable. We got so many different varieties of candy and everything was great. Only annoying part is they have to scoop it for you. Which I get in a hygienic practice, but extremely inconvenient to get a large selection and try many different flavors. You're subject to the scoop they do and don't get to really individualize your bag. read more

The candy itself was fine, definitely authentic. The frustrating part was the weird vibe of the people working, and the ridiculous "scoop rule." My cousin and I walked in and weren't greeted, even though we were the only 2 in the shop and both woman were standing there just looking at us which was weird, but not a big deal. Then, we started taking about which candy we wanted to try and one of the ladies stopped me from speaking to let me know they don't do single pieces of candy, even of the big ones, they only go off of "scoops." They were not scoopers, they were using tongs, and multiple times reached in to give me two tongs worth of candy when I nicely asked for only only one. Some candy she would give me one heaping tong scoop, and others 2, it made no sense, but I am not one to argue. I only ended up getting to pick 7 different candies before my whole bag was filled and cost me $47. This was a bad and weird experience, and the candies I chose weren't even that good. read more

A middle-aged woman (likely the owner) helped us, but her attitude felt very passive-aggressive and pushy, even though the store was empty and we had no reason to rush. When another customer came in--someone she clearly knew--her demeanor changed immediately. She became friendly, attentive, and even offered him a free sample, something we were never offered. The discrepancy in treatment left a bad taste in our mouths. Candy should be fun, but the service here was anything but. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this store based on the customer experience. I'm so sad because this candy store has been around for a while, but I didn't discover it until recently via social media. Swedish candy is trending right now and this was the closest store that had it. The store is right off of Polk street. Parking can be tricky but if you go earlier in the day, it's easier. I went on a Saturday around 1pm and there wasn't a line. There were a couple people inside. The store is set up where they had jars of candy lined up on the wall. You can't make your own candy bag. You can buy candy by the 1/4 lb but they also had some premade bags which is what I got. It was $25 for the bag. It had an assortment of sweet and sour gummy candies. It's a nice change from other candy you usually get at the grocery store. I hope to come back for more when I finish my bag. read more

We were fortunate enough to arrive when the line wasn't super long yet, and we were very excited to try Swedish candy! Others in line were building their own candy bags, but we opted for the 1lb Swedish mix that was already prepackaged Swedish candy of various types, including the popular Bubs. The ladies working were so sweet & welcoming, and they tried to accommodate everyone in an orderly manner to ensure the line goes smoothly. I love that the wall was just decorated with so many kinds of candy, it was candy heaven. There was a cute bench outside the store, so my friend and I decided to try our Swedish candy for the first time there. It was such a good experience, getting to try out the variations and choosing our favorites. The Bubs candy definitely lives up to the hype, and it got my friend and I obsessed and wanting more. I was super excited to go to this store as I saw there was one in New York but closer! When we entered, there was a nice girl that was able to help us out but we weren't ready and let the people behind us go first. The initial interaction with the first girl was very plesant. However, after we were ready and wanted to try some of the candy out, this older lady came out with attitude and did not display someone who was happy to help in a candy store. I wanted to try some of the sour bubs as I was already planning to purchase, but the lady denied my request after asking to try another candy and prompted to ask if I was even going to buy candy... I did not like her attitude and understand that there are limitations, but why not let us try the candy that is best known... That did not make any sense to me. In addition, the store only had premade bags for the BUBS candy and none that you could get in a bag you can make yourself. Another thing was the pricing. I understand these are exotic candies, but the price was overwhelming expensive. It was $24 a pound. We got two and the price was $50 which is insane. read more

As a type two diabetic, this place is my kryptonite. But after seeing all the Swedish candy trending on Tik Tok I had to check it out. I went about an hour before they closed and there was a line. Only waited about 15 mins though, with maybe 20 people ahead of me. It's really small inside and there were only two employees. Customer service was good. The owner was the one who helped me out and I told her it was my first time here. I wish she told me more about the candies but I know she saw the line and with them closing soon she probably wanted to get through everyone quickly. Still super friendly though! Just wish I got some info on fan faves or diff flavor/texture profiles between the candies. There are signs in front of the glass jar to let you know. Their main focus is gummies but they do have lollipops, chocolates and other candy. It's $25 per pound. They have the Swedish candy pre bagged already but no one in front of me was purchasing them. They were just picking out from the jars. Peer pressured into creating my own mix and also buying the pre-mix so spent $40. Definitely a splurge but it's chewy, yummy, quality candy! It is sour and just my fav type of gummy candy. My fav are the bubs (it's like a marshmallow texture. Not sure how to exactly describe it but it just melts in your mouth) and the sugar lips. Overall, I'm glad this business is flourishing and wish the owner so much success. Candy shops are in right now i guess! Went to New York recently and tried Bonbon too. Not a huge candy person but was convinced to stop by. It's a cute tiny shop I thought the candy texture and flavor were pretty good. Definitely on average, better than candy at Bonbon, if that helps as a reference point. Our favorite was the blue raspberry candy, the flavor and texture were immaculate. It's definitely worth stopping by and grabbing a bag of candy if youre nearby. If you love candy, then this may be worth a regular visit if youre willing to pay a heftier price. $25 per pound isn't cheap, but I would say you do get quality gummies and candies you wouldnt get elsewhere. The main things preventing me from giving it higher is the price and service. It's a small shop and it took some time to pick which candy we wanted in our bag. Well-stocked with Swedish candy -- bubs, hallonshots, skulls, you name it! My favorites are: sour pineapple-passionfruit skulls, strawberry-pomegranate ovals, raspberry hallonshots, strawberry and cream tubes. These are must-tries!! They also sell interesting candies from other European countries; I love the Percy Pigs from the UK. Some cons: 1. It's pretty pricey at $25/pound. 2. You can't scoop out your own candy like you would at normal candy shops like It'Sugar. The workers scoop it, so sometimes, I end up with more of a candy that I wanted less of and vice versa. 3. Sometimes, the candies I like are out-of-stock and take a while to get back in-stock. It's so conveniently located right off of Polk Street, and I'm usually in and out with my candy within 10mins whenever I visit. The store itself is small and cute. read more

I went on a Wednesday afternoon around 3/4PM & was the only customer. So many fully stocked candy jars! I came to see if they had the popular bubs & skulls and they had both (and in so many flavors)!!! Got the pre made pack because she said the cola skull & banana caramel bubs were sold out but in the pre made pack and also got a bag with a few flavors of each bub & skull. Spent around $50 on the two bags. I really love the texture & flavor of this candy! It's very marshmalloy & soft! My favorites are the watermelon & sour pear bubs. Unfortunately, this trip to the bay was a bust and this place really managed to make me grateful I was headed home. It was nested in a neighborhood that was congested and off the beaten path and spoiler alert, you see the entire shop in a single photo. This place is about the size of a bedroom and I almost passed out of the predatory price of $25 per pound for a variety of candy you can order from Amazon for 1/3 that price. In addition, there is a store near me that sell Assorted Cherry and Fruit Sours for $4 per pound and most like sells 60% of what this place sells for a minimum of 75% less. Even the places in the mall that over charge don't charge more than $18 per pound. I guess when you have two people working and you have to pay those wages, this is how you get it done. I guess if everyone in the neighborhood is a millionaire, this is pocket change, but for me, I'll pay extra for some nostalgia, but this was the biggest overcharge I've ever seen. I bet the candy shop in Disneyland is less than this place and there I even get a Mickey Swag Bag. The fact that this place is flooded with high reviews tells me every last person here either doesn't know the value of a dollar or doesn't care. No responsible adult would contribute to this inflation. read more

There was a line to get in, but understandable, we the shop was tiny! $25/lb is steep, but the candy is fresh and flown in from Sweden weekly. This is a dream for someone who loves gummies and sour things. So many options. I am not a fan of sour, but the texture of the candy was delectable. I love this store!!! I stopped by here today with my friends after seeing someone post about it on Instagram yesterday. The store itself is so pleasing to the eye. Immediately upon walking in, I was greeted with ceiling-height shelves of jars of colorful candy. It was so overwhelmingly beautiful!! The lady working there was so helpful - my friend is vegetarian and there was a list of non-gelatin candies provided. She answered so many questions I had and gave me such good suggestions. She even made me a custom mix of sour and gummy candies so I could try everything. She was super patient. The candy itself was amazing!! I got to try so many European gummies and chocolates that I've never seen before. Each one was a unique flavor experience and every one was surprisingly fresh and not stale at all. Of course, the price of $25/lb was pretty steep, but I was willing to pay as these candies are all imported from Europe and I loved the idea of being able to try a little bite or piece of a bunch of them. This is the best candy store in the entire united states- possibly in the entire world. Diane, the owner, is one of the kindest, funniest, most wonderful and warm people that exists on this planet. You are very lucky if you are able to meet her and be in her presence. They have the BEST selection of candy bar none. They have very rare and unusual candies and the candy is always fresh. It is never stale. Diane orders the candy every 3 weeks so it's always fresh. This is my haven. I come every single week. My faves (which they have memorized and I don't even have to ask for anymore) jelly babies, strawberry piglets, rainbow drops, and strawberry bricks. This is the best place in the world. So one of my most favorite people in San Francisco works here and sent me the cutest candy tray. Upon first bite, I was hooked! I want more. I need more. I need to come here! Without having to step foot inside, I can already tell you that gorgeous people work here because my friend is a babe. You SF people are so lucky to have her serve you such delicious sweets. Yum! In my candy tray were tropical snowflake gummies, chocolate snowmen, sugar plums, and candy cane caramels. The candy cane caramels are by far my absolute favorite! They're so small and poppable! The tropical snowflakes are also amazing and the chocolate snowmen are so smooth. I'll be honest and admit that the sugar plums aren't my favorite. Anyways, what a great treat! went today for the second time and was not pleased. candy is good, sometimes stale because it's not stored in airtight jars. custom bags are by scoop or you can buy pre picked bags. 2 of the women working were quite rude and annoying (white, middle aged). i was looking at the prepackaged mix to see which one i wanted. 4 times they told me, very condescendingly and like I was stupid, that all the bags were the same and they had a calculated system in packing them. the bags are not the same, bought 2 bags and they each have some different pieces of candy in them. it was quite off putting to be told the same thing 4 times. am i not allowed to look at the candy i'm purchasing? a women of the same demographic as the 2 workers was also looking at the pre packed bags before me and wasn't told anything by the workers. if i am paying $25 for a pound of candy, i have the right to pick which bag i want, regardless if they claim they are all the same. i will be going to a different candy store next time. this place is too expensive to be having such awful employees treating customers like they're stupid. save your money and go to world market, they sell the same candy. read more
