One of my favorite places in western NC! Looking for an amazing breakfast or lunch spot without a line or massive crowd? Check out Ivory Road. Jill the owner is an absolute pleasure and her food is amazing! They only use the best ingredients and you can clearly tell once your food is served. Their quiche, soul bowl, and paninis are my favorites! Always freshly made and for insanely low prices! All dishes come with a side and those rotate daily but if you can get their collard dip, any of their soups, or their homemade chips DO IT! If you're able to purchase tickets for any of their themed dinners, I highly recommend them! They're limited so snag them when you can for a memorable experience. Tip- ask them about their tea service!

On our trip to the Asheville area over spring break, this restaurant was deemed to be our favorite meal by the group. That is high praise! I read about this restaurant in a cookbook I have called NC Back Road Restaurants and Recipes. For once, the review underpromised and the actual place over-delivered! Now, how often does THAT happen?? First, the look of the place: quaint, enchanted, peaceful. Ivy climbs the walls and creeps up the trees as you walk up a winding walkway with a twisted wooden rail to the welcoming front door of the home turned restaurant. Find a seat, either inside or on the deck and wait for them to give you a menu. You may get breakfast all day. Which is exactly what we did. I don't know that I've ever had a better breakfast anywhere. I got the Toad in a hole , the hole being in a homemade jalapeno biscuit, the toad being a perfectly cooked over easy egg. All of that served with a tiny carafe of the most delicious gravy you've ever thought about. I'm still dreaming about that dish. My daughter had a breakfast burrito with Tempeh, egg and brussels sprouts, which she loved! My son tried grits for the first time with his breakfast skillet complete with eggs and sausage. We all enjoyed our food and we enjoyed the ambiance even more. This will absolutely be a regular stop for us!

I had the pleasure of stopping by this place during our trip in North Carolina. I made a last minute change to our breakfast plans before our hike for the day. I chose Ivory Road over a couple of other local spots and I'm happy I did! The Nutella and banana stuffed french toast was the best french toast I've had, no contest. The hash soul bowl was amazing as well and if you enjoy well made duck do not pass this dish up. The restaurant is essentially a house with table seating inside and outside seating available as well. It's a very cozy and quiet setting, perfect for a relaxing start to the morning. The service was great as everyone there was very friendly and welcoming. Needless to say if I'm ever in the area again I will be ready for round 2!

So I'm torn about this place. The price is right and there's ample outdoor seating. The skillets we got were tasty with eggs, bacon, and cheese grits. The bacon was great in it! Wish the skillets came with some veggies like onions or peppers to really push them over the top. Each came with a side of toast and butter + jam. The cinnamon roll we got was super disappointing. It was hard and tasted old, like it had been prepared the day before. It was pretty dry and dense. Walk in, order at the counter, and find a seat. The staff brings out each order! However, make sure to bus your own table, especially if outside.

This is one of my favorite spots for afternoon tea in Asheville! The scones are house made and amazing! Some of the best cream I've had with a scone. They also have great little sandwiches and desserts. The service is great and everyone is very friendly. I know many people who use this place as their regular lunch pick up spot. The vibe is very much "local hole in the wall cafe" and it feels cozy and homey. Their lunch menu is just as good as their tea options!

I thought this was a brunch spot until I enjoyed dinner there last night for the first time. The menu was delicious and the wait staff was very attentive; I was told their quiche is great so I enjoyed the vegetarian quiche for dinner. For an appetizer I had an amazing collard green, bacon & Parmesan cheese dip of some kind that was out of this world! I ended the evening with their terrific banana pudding! I will be back to enjoy their drive up coffee bar & some breakfast baked goods.

Arriving from Florida we needed to eat somewhere before check in. Hidden on a side road this cute restaurant make you feel you are in a story . We ate outside on the deck because we where with our dog. It was the perfect weather. Service was super friendly and fast. I liked the special salads and the original rosemary cheesecake. Great lunch . We'll be back!

The food here is amazing and so reasonably priced. This would be my regular go to brunch spot if I lived in the area. You can tell the owner puts her heart and soul into it! The cinnamon bun skillet is to die for and you feel right at home. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating.

Though Ivory Road is more known for their breakfast/lunch menus and hours, I have only eaten there for dinner. Special dining events over the years have never left me disappointed. This year I was able to make Restaurant Week and again, I was glad that I did. If I were able to go back a second night, to try some of the other offerings, I would. I can only imagine how yummy breakfast and lunch are and I've promised myself to get there in 2023. Chef Jill is a super talented - I look forward to my first daytime visit!

We got take out so can't speak to the dining experience but the menu has some interesting/different options and the egg in a biscuit and Hemingway bun (I'm probably butchering the names of the dishes) we're both very good. Very original dishes.

Ivory Road Cafe is a cozy, unassuming spot off a back road in Arden, NC. They offer a variety of breakfast and lunch options with a rotating selection of specialty quiches, baked goods, and daily entrees. On my first visit I tried the Franklin Panini, which contains bacon, tomato, and avocado under a blanket of gooey melted pimiento cheese on grilled sourdough. The sandwich is thoughtfully assembled and all ingredients complemented one another, in between perfectly toasted and pressed bread. On another visit I went with their Toadstool Panini, consisting of thinly-sliced turkey, gouda, arugula, mushrooms, and pesto mayo. I'd be hard-pressed to choose which one I liked better as they were both outstanding. This place knows how to make a sandwich. The kettle chips they offer as a side are perfectly fine, but keep an eye out for their side-of-the-day: the smoked trout dip served with baby carrots and sliced cucumber was phenomenal. The freshly-fried donuts they have are also fantastic. Perfectly-fried yeasted donuts with a slightly crisp outer crust and soft interior, the different flavors offered (with coffee and butterscotch being the two I've tried so far) are restrained and not overpowering, nor too sweet. These are the perfect donuts for the discerning lover of quality baked goods, not just for someone looking to satisfy their sweet tooth. With excellent service and perfectly reasonable pricing (maybe even on the cheap end), I'd be happy sitting on their comfortable patio eating lunch here every Saturday. Maybe I will.

This place was good. Not great. But good. The sign to mark this place next to the road is very small. We drove right past it. Parking here is a nightmare. Seating is like finding a table in a maze. The service here was good. Not the best I've ever had but still good. The restaurant is clean and appears sanitary. I wasn't impressed with the food. The egg yolks on the deviled eggs were dry. They tasted good but were like small golf balls placed into an egg. The sourdough bread that was pressed for my sandwich was really good. Unfortunately, the chicken salad was bland. The chicken by itself was bland. I wouldn't order it again. The chowder was the best part of this experience but it wasn't good enough for a 4th star. I wish we could give half stars. This was a 3.5 restaurant. There are much better places to eat. I can't recommend this place.

I wanted to like this place. I've been following them for quite a while. We finally made a visit and honestly it just wasn't exciting. First it isn't table service per se. You order at the counter. They do bring your food to you. The register when you check out has tips set to 18% and more. I don't expect to do that much tip for counter service. I'm not cheap I just think you tip based on service. My husband got the Pimento cheese, tomato and bacon panini. His side was pretzels with onion dip. Neither were impressive. The dip tasted prepackaged. And I did taste the dip as well to see what I thought. I ordered an apple cider donut. It was a cake donut and I didn't get the apple cider flavor. It was a little dry. I had a chai tea. It was ok. They do bring cream. I ordered the sausage scramble which was ok. Eggs, cheese, and sausage. But the cheesy grits side tasted like they were from a pouch. You could see where they had been in a restaurant pan because they had a corner visible in them. They were so mushy. Maybe they were having an off day so close to the holiday. But I don't think I'll make the drive to try them again. read more

Celebrated a birthday in a large tea room that was quaintly decorated with tea pots. The meno boasts a plethora of fresh and creative offerings. This place is everything I like about a small town bistro and bakery. A nostalgic small stone cottage with a beautiful porch to dine in fine weather, a local owner who is involved in the day to day workings and preparations of the cafe, and food that is scratch made, customary and solid for the region it presides in. Everything is flavored accordingly and delicious. You cant go wrong with breakfast all day. And if you find yourself heading down the road early morning a drive thru coffee cottage with homemade baked goods resides on the property to greet passing transports to work or the airport. The atmosphere lends itself to pleasant familial gatherings. The kind of place that I would love to take my daughters for a special afternoon tea, or my parents who prefer cozy accommodations with authentic local offerings. read more

Quaint, cozy, nostalgic - The three words I find that best describe this place. The first time I came here was with a group of coworkers. It was a chilly day and half of the parking lot was still covered in snow. As I walked in, the floorboards creaked under my steps and echoed in a familiar greeting. This place reminded me of my not-so-distant youth, a time when I frequently visited a certain cafe on campus. It was also a house turned into a cafe -- where the hallways and stairs were narrow; there was a sense of oldness to that cafe, but at the same time, the place was always bustling with chatter and laughter. I had spent many hours there studying and chatting with friends. They were fond memories, but when I stepped into Ivory Road, they felt like yesterday. As a breakfast enthusiast, the two times I've come here for lunch, I ordered from the breakfast menu on both occasions. While I have not been blown away by any of the food I've tried so far (my standards for breakfast food are admittedly a little high), I will say their French press coffee is to die for. It was one of the most delicious cups of coffees I've ever tasted. My coworkers chose a spot by the electric fireplace. Halfway through our lunch, a soft tune could be heard, and it was then that I knew none of us wanted to leave this little solace. All that was missing was a blanket and a nice afternoon nap. Small restaurant in older stone house but the food was 5-star. My wife ad my sister joined me for supper there tonight. We shared three entrees (crab cakes, tomato pie, and mac&cheese - all wonderful. It's a southeast of Asheville near Arden but worth the drive. They do supper Wednesday through Saturday nights. They have breakfast and lunch six days of the week (closed Sunday). A truely hidden gem of culinary delight. read more

We arrived late for lunch in a blinding rainstorm. The place was packed even then, an encouraging sign. My friend got the cheese pannini as did I, and iced tea. My other friend got a chicken sandwich . I know why the place is popular. The food was good and warm. And happily there was not too much vinegar on the Caesar salad which was topped with slices of Parmesan cheese, a nice touch. Most Caesars are over dressed. The service was speedy considering the large crowd. My only complaint was that the seats were uncomfortable. I might have stayed longer if I had not had fanny fatigue. Would love to go back and try other parts of the menus. The cookies were the size of Frisbees. read more

My friends and I were here for a classy Bachelorette party experience. The cafe was very quaint, casual, and fun for anyone in the family! Their selections of scones, finger sandwiches and pastries were divine! It was about $25 per person which was perfect and there was definitely enough food so feel full. Quaint little place off of Brevard Rd. Really nice and cozy with terrific food and friendly staff. The skillet I had was excellent and the coffee very tasty. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Everyone in S Asheville should check this place out. Don't dwell on the negative tea lady's review. Searching for a teatime experience during our vacation....we at first tried to book tea at the Biltmore and I am delighted that they did not have any availability because we would have missed out on a lovely afternoon. The setting is in a old stone home ...inside walls are decorated w local art and the table presentation sits beside a crackling fire place. My wife and I visit Asheville with regularity. We always make a tip to Ivory Road, often more than one. We thoroughly enjoy breakfast, and you can always count on a great quiche. I also recommend the Hog Wild Scramble. Locally sourced ingredients, prepared to perfection, and low key friendly service. Sit outside weather permitting. Slow down and look for the sign, appears to a converted home. Don't miss this spot. read more

such a perfect little get away breakfast/brunch spot. you can sit inside and have a cozy feeling of sitting in a cabin or outside & enjoy their outdoor seating which is so relaxing. i've had just about everything on the menu and have had no complaints everything is so delicious & fresh. they recently switched over to table service but the experience is still the same. best place in asheville for a quiet breakfast on your day off or if you're on vacation! read more

WOW! Husband and I were driving from Kentucky to Charleston and I luckily found this gem!! Right off the highway, it only added 2 minutes to our drive time. Walking in we were immediately excited about the little library in the lawn. The whole menu looks incredible but we got the Ivory Toast and the caprese panini with tomato basil soup. It was fresh, delicious, unique and JUST what we were looking for. The perfect lunch spot!! read more

Wow! What a gem! My wife and I just discovered this place after living here for three years and it will be our go-to cafe for now on. The menu offers something for every taste and the prices are beyond reasonable - unlike the tourist prices in most Asheville cafes/restaurants. It is an adorable little cottage house with a VERY friendly staff. The dishes are generous and fresh, and the coffee is great. I can't wait to eat outside once the weather warms up. I wished they opened earlier so I could sneak in before work! read more

This place is good. PERIOD. Lovely variations on the regular breakfast menu. Portions aren't insane, but just right. Coffee is good- something I find lacking in other breakfast establishments most of the time. Whether you're famished or just in need of a quick snack, you'll find exactly what you need at the Ivory Road Cafe. I was there in the late afternoon, hoping for a savory snack to tide me over until dinner. The menu, which you can see online at www.IvoryRoadAVL.com, listed three APPS & SNACKS, all of which looked good to me. I mean, how could you go wrong with deviled eggs with green tomato and bacon jam? Prices were reasonable for all three offerings. I went with the smoked trout dip served with veggies. I would've taken a picture, but it looked so delicious that I dug right in. (No pic this time, but I'll be back later in the week, when I'll order something different. The APPS & SNACKS menu changes according to the seasons, so be sure to come this spring, before the menu changes if you want to taste that startlingly good, freshly-made smoked trout dip. The place is charmingly arranged -- a variety of small and large rooms with eclectic decor and a sign announcing the special of the day, which is removed once that special is sold out. Most amazingly, they can make a number of their dishes VEGAN on request. Just look for the asterisks on the menu. I seldom write reviews, but this place is such a winner that I had to. Came here with my friend. This was HONESTLY one of the best meals I feel like I have ever ate in my life at the moment. The sandwich was delicious as well as the tomato soup. If I wasn't a calorie freak, I would've ordered what my friend ordered which was the Nutella French toast which was possibly even better than my meal. My friend and I had afternoon tea on Sep 29. It was a delightful experience. We enjoyed all the pastries and sandwiches along with our tea. Our favorite was the Spinach Wrap with fig jam, goats cheese and honey pecans. We would had been happy with several of those instead of just one each. The food was great! The service was excellent. I had the quiche of the day- red pepper and feta. It was served with some lovely breakfast potatoes cooked to perfection and a fruit salad. Everything tasted very fresh. The atmosphere was very cozy and inviting. They have linen napkins making for a higher quaility experience. My only small suggestion would be to get better quality forks in time. And to be honest, I may have just randomly got that one. It reminded me of the utensils I had in my first apartment. As sweet as the memory is, the fork is not the same. I look forward to returning for lunch with my husband and trying that pimento cheese sandwich with the avocado, I think it was called the Franklin, and also bringing the kids in for some sweet treats. Very disappointing visit. I expected to be educated about the different teas and the staff wasn't even able to answer my questions. Not only that, but you could only choose one tea to have. You would think that they would want you to experience the different kinds of teas. These weren't even loose leaf teas, they were the same teabags that I can buy in the grocery store. When I made our reservation, I told them that one of the three in our party is gluten free. When our finger sandwich platters came out, I questioned our waiter because one of the GF sandwiches looked the same as the ones on the other two platters but was assured that everything on my daughter's platter was gluten free. Well guess what folks? It obviously wasn't because my daughter has celiac disease and she was violently ill that night. Never again!! read more

We really love ivory road, seating can seem weird your first time but I think it adds to the charm. Food has always been great. The Franklin, grilled cheese with avocado and pimento, my favorite. Their soups are fabulous for winter and they started doing "takeout central" so you can have the food delivered! We make it a habit to take visitors here and have never been disappointed! Our new favorite spot. Conveniently hidden away off of 191, Ivory Road Cafe serves a wonderful "bruncheon" fare. Hearty "Southern Skillet" breakfast is a must-eat. Panini's are savory and delicious. A real stand-out features homemade pesto. "The Franklin," a pimento cheese, avocado, and bacon Panini, is their bestseller. And rightfully so. Wow. I'm not much of a sweets eater. But, if I were, I'd be pretty happy here, too. The baked goods are a feast for the eyes. Other patrons have told me they are spectacular. Atmosphere is charming, with nice outdoor seating. This place is just perfect. We were on our way to a hike and were trying to dodge the chain restaurants but didn't want to drive all the way into Asheville. It was such a pleasant surprise. It's on the way to your favorite hikes and it's got that local crunchy charm. I had the hash soul bowl and my boyfriend the three egg skillet and we both ate every last bite. They casually gave us free coffee refills and didn't charge us for a to-go cup when we were so pleased with the quality of the food that we decided to finish it with a delicious alfa jore cookie. We opened August of 2016 and operated as a breakfast and lunch cafe until October 2023. In 2024, Ivory Road reopens as a wine bar and event space, featuring a boutique Wine Club!

Meet the Business Owner: Jill H.

I’m Jill, the owner, and I grew up on the “real” Ivory Road, which gently winds through a small town in Maryland. Since then, I have traveled the world in pursuit of the exotic, the simple, and everything in-between. I opened Ivory Road as a breakfast and lunch cafe in 2016. After 7 rewarding years full of every twist and turn imaginable, I decided to change paths and regain a bit of work/life balance while still doing what I love. I chose to formally pursue my passion of wine and have it intermingle a bit more with my culinary passion. So, in 2024 I open the new and rejuvenated Ivory Road — a culinary event space focused on local collaboration complete with a unique wine club & retail selection.

A friend and I tried to eat at the former restaurant at this location and it was closed. Was delighted to see that something else went in so we went back. I am so very glad that we did. The food is extremely good and reasonably priced. The service is top notch. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. (Be sure to see the mural in the restroom!) Getting a group together to experience the afternoon tea which currently is only held every other Saturday. Reservations required. It has been a very, very long time since I've been able to experience one. My friend bought some of the really cute mini cupcakes. Out of two that she gave me, one tasted a bit "refrigerator-y" but the other was really good. If I could give them 6 stars, I would. Our dogsitter bailed last minute, so we brought our pup with us to the Valentine's day tea, and they were amazingly accommodating. The patio seating was wonderful, the service was stellar, and the food was incredible. Those were the best scones I've ever eaten! Plus, this morning my dad went back for his morning coffee and left his card in the machine. Have eaten at Ivory Road several times for lunch and loved a 5-course meal prepared by Jill and wines from Stone Ashe Winery. Service and setting were fantastic. Have also enjoyed Jill's food at a wine club dinner at Stone Ashe. read more

Great people, very cute place, and parking! the only place south of town with a lot of character where I am happy to meet people for coffee or a light meal. I look forward to sitting on their great porch all fall. read more
