My friend's reading was packed and I felt like it was such a comfortable environment with great vibes. Store manager, Madison, emceed the event and she's such a natural speaker, her love for books shining through, which I think made the readers even more comfortable. I also love the staff picks for books (and agree with so many of the picks, a nice mix of classics, modern classics and new titles). After the reading, my friend had a reception with food and complimentary drinks so I didn't try the coffee/wine available for sale, but I could easily see myself coming back sometime when there isn't an event and sitting with a book and relaxing in this generous space. Also--manifesting this here-- when the time comes for my own book reading, P & T is at the top of my list!

The gallery is centrally located on the ground floor in Chelsea. Natural light and unimpeded wall space provide ideal viewing of photographs ranging from small photobooth prints to monumental museum-sized pieces. Respect for the medium is immediately apparent. The stable of represented artists is lengthy but includes Mickalene Thomas and Julius Shulman. Recent gallery-based exhibitions and presentations at Untitled and the Armory include recognizable mainstay artists like Larry Sultan, Sharon Core and Ori Gersht; Rachel Perry and Hellen van Meene, too many talents to list. Jared Bark has been shown in the gallery after many years of exposure limited to only collectors in the know, prompting a re-examination by curators and art historians. Focused exhibiting of artists newer to the scene, but no less important, like Zanele Muholi, document socially important concepts of race, gender and sexuality in her native South Africa. History and aesthetics perfectly merge through the gallery's own lens. The Gallery should be a must-see at any tour of Chelsea. Likewise, it's a gallery to seek out during the important art fair weeks in Miami and NYC. On a personal observation, the entire staff is professional and polite. The namesake, Yancey Richardson, loves what she does and her genuine passion is immediately apparent. She is easily engaged in a conversation about the artists, art works, the process and the medium. Similarly, Director, Sarah, is equally happy to provide information and quick to provide insight and information. I've enjoyed seeing the gallery exhibitions and art fair presentations; and, personal acquisitions have been easy and exciting experiences.

I never want someone to be turned off art by the attitude of some supercilious gallerist. Yancey Richardson is exactly the kind of rude, cold place to discourage a new collector. The main exhibit was '50 seasons of Survivor' I do not watch the show, but the artifacts were interesting. There were a few photo ops. There was also an exhibit of 45 years of Pac-Man, with some old machines and a lot of artwork. It was fun to play Ms. Pac-Man. The Paley Library on the fourth floor includes archives of over 160,000 television shows and audio. There is also a daily schedule of screening on the Bennack Theater, unfortunately I was there late and didn't get to enjoy any of the shows. The two gentlemen at the front desk were very pleasant. I spent less than one hour in the museum.

Disappointing experience with The Farm Soho. My concern was not with having policies or…read moreexpectations, it was with the lack of clear, written guidance and how the situation was handled. I contacted Ray and later Samuel Poku regarding a policy issue and requested a copy or reference to the specific written policy being applied. Instead of providing the requested policy language, I was told that a separate detailed policy was not required and that the general rule applied. If a coworking space is going to issue warnings or threaten to terminate a member's access, the standards being enforced should be clearly defined and available in writing. Additionally, when a space advertises 24/7 access, using the amount of time a member spends in the workspace as a point of concern creates confusion unless there are clearly stated limits or guidelines. The back-and-forth communication took significant time away from the purpose of having a workspace. I ultimately decided the membership was not the right fit for my needs and canceled. I would expect a professional coworking space to provide clear policies, transparent communication, and consistent expectations for its members.

The Park Avenue Armory is a historic 19th century, Gothic Revival, military building that was…read morerestored to become an incredible NYC cultural institution. It was build in the late 1800s for a prestigious Civil War regiment... it was preserved and then became a cultural center in 2007. Make sure to enjoy the architecture, decor, art in the smaller rooms open to the public (Tiffany glass windows, turquoise tiled fireplace). The only play I've seen in this space was The Doctor. I also saw their productions of The Lehman Trilogy and Illinoise once they transferred to Broadway. Most recently i visited the Armory for the CLINEMAN installation. I spent a couple of hours watching the porcelain bowls glide across the pools of water... listening to the different pitches of their chimes.

The architecture is incredible, and the second you walk in you can feel the history. In a weird way, it kind of makes you think, "Wait... is this place haunted?" or "What stories could these walls tell?" I've been lucky enough to see a bunch of really cool art installations here over the years, plus a few fashion shows. If you've never been, definitely check out their website to see what's going on because there's always something interesting happening. The latest installation I saw had three huge pools inside this giant wooden deck with blown glass bowls floating around on the water. The whole thing was super relaxing. Some people were taking naps, some were quietly talking with friends, and others were just sitting there watching the glass drift around and soaking in the ASMR vibes. It's such a cool example of how creative they get with the space. In my dream world, I'd get married here lol.
