I've been dropping off my various donations here over the years. They take most items and give you a receipt if you ask for one. They are always super nice and helpful getting all my box's out of the car. While driving into the lot I noticed a plaque with a dedication name for the 805 freeway. It was dedicated in 1981 to Jake Dekema. He served California as the Director of Transportation for 25 years. But when I am near San Diego I do have a thrift store I usually go to. I went yesterday and again didn't find anything. I guess I was Jonesing because this morning I checked an app I write notes in, for stores I mean to visit when nearby. Then looked here in Yelp for stores near where I was at that moment. This store was near me so I drove there, stopped in and looked around. I found an article of clothing that I liked. Only 40% cheaper than the one I ordered on Amazon recently. But when the Amazon one arrived, the color didn't match the color name. White is not grey. It was an Amazon house brand. The one I bought at Salvation Army was a premium brand, a color I was happy with and there was no sales tax. And no wait to get it. An overall win in my book. I saw a couple of other non-clothing things I liked but we're too pricey IMO for the condition or for how much I wanted them. That's ok. Someone else will see them differently. I'll be back again.

But it's a donation center that opens at 9am - 6pm everyday. So happy to have found this place as I was looking to donate some house items - many new, with tags, or lightly used (if you know me I buy quality things) and in the midst of minimalizing my home. Usually I drop loads at The Salvation Army but they open at later times and even the big donation centers are rejecting items "we don't have room" (ex: small 4 pair shoe rack) but you'll see them take a truck behind you full of junk-junk. Parking is easy, it's in a not so busy neighborhood plaza. Workers show up early or on time (I respect that!) and are ready for you at exactly at 9am. You can walk in and drop items off in the bins or you can wheel the in with the carts. The staff will give you a receipt and you are on your way. I bless my past things and hope the get put to good use and to good homes in need!

Every time I've come, there is parking right in front for easy unloading. Staff offers to do tax write off receipts if needed. I've never spent more than 5 minutes here even with a car full of items. He rudely says "what??" I repeat it. He proceeds to tear open the trash bag to inspect the items. All of this while he smokes a cigarette blowing smoke in my direction. Opens the box that had a clock in it. Very rudely. And of course he did his routine walk off when he sees you pulling up. Salvation Army, do better. He was eating pizza and said "how am I supposed to know what you dropped off?" He came out and literally pushed over two of my bags of clothes so they toppled onto the ground. Went back into trailer saying nothing. I was about to leave and he came out and handed me a blank receipt and walked away. My guess is my 8 bags of nicely folded clothes, shoes, housewares will end up in some garbage dumpster rather in the hands of people who could use some support. Absolutely disgusting. Don't bother. Either find another place (Goodwill has been great and I regret not going back there) or toss your beautiful things in the trash.
