I chose J&J to make the necessary repairs after reading through their yelp reviews. They did a great job fixing the exterior and contracted out to have the interior thoroughly detailed! They found and repaired damage that my insurance company had missed. Their customer service was exceptional! I found their office manager (Mimi) to be direct, efficient, and a clear communicator. I can't speak directly to the competitiveness of their rates (who knows how much these things cost?), but my insurance company spoke highly of them so I assume they are fair. Having been hit while parked, no note left, my VW golf needed the front fender repaired. Chuck and Peggy were totally flexible with me on when to bring it in (night dropoff an option), prompt in reaching out with updates, and worked directly with State Farm so I did not need to. Their work was flawless, and they even replaced my tail light bulb gratis. There was still a strange dragging sound when I picked it up but I had no time to deal with it. 2 weeks later I night-dropped again. Chuck called first thing to tell me some screws were missing which were likely not replaced properly during my last oil change (which was long before I brought the car to him). We experienced a hit and run where the front of our BMW had been smashed in while it was parked and the police could not get an office out to investigate at the site of the accident. To make a long story short we were stuck with paying the full deductible for the repairs. J&J worked with our insurance to settle a cost for all of the work. They then continually kept me in the loupe as they began making the repairs. The insurance adjuster wanted to use generic parts and the settlement reflected this. We wanted to use BMW parts. J&J shopped the parts and were able to use only BMW parts and still stay within the settlement. Their work was first class the quality of their craftsmanship is equal to or better than the fit and trim of the car. Over the past few years I have had a few repairs done at J&J. Done good work in the past but this time they muddled the job. Part of the work included a new passenger side mirror for my Ram Truck. The side mirror worked perfectly fine but the plastic casing was cracked. First they priced the wrong mirror then they ordered the wrong mirror then they told me the correct mirror needed to be back ordered with no definite arrival date. they suggested that the existing mirror be put back on, I agreed, and the new mirror would be put on when arrived. Unfortunately the glass on the existing mirror was now completely shattered and the electronic adjustments no longer work. Its almost useless. I pointed this out to the owner and his attitude was basically "what do you want me to do about it". If the owner reads this by chance, a simple apology would have done just fine - jerk! read more

My car was hit by a pizza delivery guy in the parking lot while I was hanging out with my family. The right passenger door was smashed in and the paint messed up. I went to five places in the area for estimates and decided on J and J. They did not give the cheapest estimate but I had a good feeling about Chuck and facilities. What caught my eye first was their rating with the BBB which was an A+. When walking in you'll notice the usual ASE certificates and other standards, but Chuck also had an award for teaching Automative Classes at South Seattle Community College. I took my car in wed and had it by two on friday. The color matching was perfect even in direct sunlight, the door closed better then when I bought the car, and they give you a lifetime warranty on their services. They handled the insurance and rental car without any hassels and washed the car when finished. I recommend J and J to anyone who wants superior quality and service. read more

My car was hit by another driver and his insurance took responsibility for the repairs. I received a check and went to J & J to schedule the repair. They wanted the insurance check first. No schedule or estimate. Just hand over the check and we'll then schedule you in. I'm not use to doing business that way. It seems a business should do the work then expect payment. After all, they will have my car as collateral. Although we agreed to a down payment for parts (approximately 30% upfront), I decided to take the car to Ballard Collision instead. I had work done on my Honda in the mid '90's and was really impressed with them. Now over 15 years later, I needed some work done on my Mini Cooper. Once again, they did an outstanding job!! Not only on my car, but their customer service is the best! I learned from a botched job before (had to go where insurance co told me) - as well as complaints from other Mini owners - that it is challenging to find places to take a Mini in to. I was told by a good friend that she had twice been given great service by J and J Collision in Ballard. My Jetta was damaged from someone backing into the driver side front panel. The panel needed to be replaced. They did the work as they described, on time, with good workmanship. There was a minor glitch with the electric lock on the passenger door afterward, but they immediately worked on it when I brought it back and had it working perfectly in a short time. I really wanted to bring my car to J & J as they were recommended by my mechanic and I would always prefer to support a small local business over the larger chains. Unfortunately when I called for information the person who answered the phone wouldn't even let me finish explaining my situation before she started telling me what I could and couldn't do. Maybe she thought she was being helpful, as I'm sure she receives a lot of similar inquiry calls, but it came across as really rude and dismissive. Also, what she told me directly contradicted what I had been told by my insurance company. I have only written two reviews. One a moment ago to inform everyone to stay away from Abra Auto Body and Glass on Aurora and this one to talk about what a spectacular experience I had with J & J. After a truly terrible experience trying to get my car repaired at Abra, I had it towed to J & J on a recommendation from my mechanic. The folks there accepted the car without complaint even though I had failed to set up an appointment with them. They reviewed the estimate I had received from Abra and determined that they could do the repair for $2000 less than what Abra had quoted me. They walked me through the repair and answered all of my questions and had my car repaired on time. I wish I had started with them. J & J was great and the staff was really friendly and nice. Happy to support a local Ballard business over a national chain that really didn't demonstrate any care for its customers. read more

I don't write a lot of reviews, but this is one of those businesses that deserves to be recognized. My neighbor backed into my car when it was parked on the street, and the entire repair, which involved replacing the bumper, a headlight, and a body panel, took less than two days. Plus, the person at the front desk was super friendly. They even washed my car and thoroughly vacuumed the admittedly filthy interior. I'm a big fan. I just got my car back from having some "body work" done. (2 doors on the passenger side of a PRIUS were keyed). The estimate was clear (& in line with the other two places we checked with), the drop off was easy, and the car was finished in less than two days (we were prepared for 4 days!), costing slightly less than the estimate. When we picked up our car from J&J, there was a small stripe of gray primer where they hadn't finished painting. The body panels were also poorly aligned. I was astonished that they were actually considering the work finished. Another four days and they had it fixed - the body panel alignment was still not normal. Chuck gave me an estimate for a front end collision on the left fender. Not only did he fix that but he also repaired some damage on my left rear fender that was not only not covered by the estimate, it wasn't even part of the same collision. How often have you taken your car anywhere for service and had them do more than they said they would and not charge you for it? Not often, I bet. Also the work was beautiful. J & J Collision completed its work on my Mini Cooper last week, which needed cosmetic repair to the driver's side panels after being subject to a 'scrape and run' while parked at a shopping mall a few weekends ago. The work was completed within my insurance company's appraisal and the time-frame the shop initially suggested. A further note: I picked up the vehicle late on Friday evening, after the shop had closed. In giving it a visual once-over, I noticed a small smudge of some translucent glue-like material on the front driver's side panel adjacent to where some of the repairs had occurred. I had never seen the smudge before, and so was fairly certain it must have occurred during the course of the repair work. Not a huge deal, but I hoped the shop would take responsibility for fixing it. So I took the vehicle back in to the shop this morning. The manager offered an apology and called one of the staff over to remove the smudge with some type of solvent/cleaner. The whole thing took 5 minutes tops. No denial of responsibility, no haggling for additional charges. Just accountability (which is more than can be said of some body shops, or the idiot driver who scraped up my parked car in the 1st place). Thanks J & J. read more

It has been over two years since someone hit my car and it is again in need of a body shop. It has brought to mind J&J and why I will not go there again. I had three cars repaired at this shop over the years and was always very pleased with the workmanship and staff. I thought I had a good relationship with them and particularly with the estimator/foreman. The last time, someone vandalized my car in a parking garage and put a long scratch on the left side that went from the front door to the back of the rear quarter panel. The estimator seemed surly on the initial visit and when I went to pick the car up, he demonstrated the same attitude. Two days later, I opened the rear door and a piece of trim fell onto the street. It had been re-installed with masking tape. I took it back to J&J and was again roughly treated by this person although I conducted myself civilly. A new piece was ordered and when I went back, this guy did not even speak to me and glared at me as he slammed the piece into place. I later found the chrome piece that sits at the base of the rear door window is loose and there is a paint smudge from the repaint. So, a bad day is a bad day, but surly treatment throughout constitutes lousy customer service and, as said, the quality was the same. I have absolutely no idea of why I was treated in this manner. I even baked them brownies, for chrissake's. read more

This was my first experience with any sort of 'collision/repair' shop. Someone knocked my side mirror in a parking lot so I called Bernies and they recommended J& J Collision. I called and Mimi has me bring my car in that morning for Chuck to take a look at. He quickly assessed the situation and looked up the parts and told me that the parts alone to replace the mirror on my Audi would be $1350. He then said that he would do some research and see if he could find the parts used and call me back. Mimi called me the next day to say they located an intact mirror and the price would be just over $500 for everything (including $350 for the mirror). It turns out the paint job on the replacement perfectly matched my car so I was able to save another $150. They also touched up a scratch that my husband had put on my car while it was in the shop. The mirror looks great and works perfectly. I highly recommend them!!! Very glad that I didn't just bring my car to Audi for the repair. read more
