J&R Construction has recently remodeled the back half of our 59 year old hose in South Austin. This was the third time that we have worked with John Wilkerson and his team. They first helped in remodeling the front half of our house in 2010 and also remodeled a rental garage apartment that we own in 2011. This job included under house structural repair; sheet rocking, texturing and painting of walls and ceilings; electrical re-wiring; and the gutting, rebuilding and re-plumbing of a bathroom including a new custom shower. John's team also had to remove wood paneling in two bedrooms and a hallway and in these same rooms remove linoleum flooring in preparation for new hardwood floors. We also had eave vents added to the whole house for better attic ventilation prior to blowing in new attic insulation. His team of workers and subcontractors were excellent, did more than they had committed to, and came in on budget and on time. John handled all the permitting processes and knew when to bring us into these processes when key city questions arose. I desperately needed some help with water issues after the last rain. I found John on Yelp, and took a chance. When we first talked, he was very professional and quickly scheduled an on-site visit to allow him to give me a proper estimate. Water was coming in a the bottom of a wall on the driveway, which was was built many years ago to enclose a double car port. Another contractor had informed me that significant concrete sawing and trenching would be required. John called me after his site visit, and informed me there was already proper drainage on the driveway, but the wall had been improperly built, without flashing and waterproofing. He filled me in on how he would remove all the damaged structure and rebuild the front wall properly, solving the significant leakage problem in the affected room. His bid was very reasonable, and he quickly and professionally finished the job, leaving a clean and properly repaired work site, in a very short period of time. I have some more projects I need done, and will be calling him to take care of various issues, in the near future. My wife and I were very satisfied with J&R construction during our floor remodeling job. We had just bought a new house and wanted to remove all the tile and install laminate hardwood flooring before moving in. We had originally hired John for just the tile demolition, but ended up using him to install all the laminate flooring as well due to many conflicts and headaches with Home Depot's floor contractor, in which John actually tried to help us resolve. We are glad that John was able finish the job for us. He had to rearrange his extremely busy schedule, work weekends and some late evenings to make sure we had our floor completed before we moved in. He saved us many sleepless nights by helping us get the job done when Home Depot's floor consultants kept giving us the runaround ...trying to protect their own interests versus the customer's. John was very meticulous and dedicated to the job. He cared about our home and who lived in it. He went above and beyond to make sure my wife and I were happy with everything he was doing. We recently hired J&R to do a total bathroom remodel: they took everything down to the studs (even replacing studs that had rotted) and then built it all back up again. From start to finish, John was easy to work with, extremely competent and conscientious, and attentive to our budget. John was also very careful with our house: he cleaned up after himself and worked to minimize the impact of the demolition/construction (we're still amazed they could get the old bathroom out and the new bathroom in without banging up the hallway or the rest of the house!). We were out of town for part of the work, and we felt completely comfortable giving J&R access to our house in our absence. John kept us updated on progress without hassling us with small details. When we bought a house in Lago Vista in 2009, our plumber recommended John at J&R construction to repair a huge hole in the drywall left after a plumbing job. From that moment on, we have never even considered calling any other contractor. Every single job he has done for us - including drywall, painting, and even finding wood flooring that matched what we already had and installing it for us has been done quickly, very well, and very professionally. We have never had a single complaint. We just give John the key to our house and the code for our alarm and while we are away during the week, he gets the job done beautifully. In Lago Vista, J&R Construction did some window trim work for us including wood replacement (with hardie), caulk, and paint. This was a small project but John was still very particular and wanted it to be perfect. It looks great! J&R then quoted on adding a cover to our existing deck. John assisted with great construction options and got back quickly with a very competitive quote. They worked with inspectors as needed and got started and completed the job quickly. They tied into our roof with an A-frame porch cover, shingled, and painted. With John's meticulous work, we were extremely pleased with this project! John did an incredible job as our general contractor. He was in charge of remodeling our kitchen, a guest bathroom, a master bathroom, an entry way, and laundry room. He made sure all cabinets in kitchen, bathrooms, and laundry room were sanded and re-stained with a medium dark stain. With the wood type, white ash, with a white wash stain and varnish, THIS was quite an undertaking! But he made sure it was done to our liking. John has done work for my mom that she was very happy with and so when we needed our living room painted he was a natural choice. Not only did he do a great job painting, but he moved everything out of the way and then put it all back neatly when he was finished. He vacuumed behind the furniture and even took down the blinds and hosed them off! We were out of town when the work was done and got to come home to not only a freshly painted room, but it was cleaner than when we left it! I highly recommend him. read more

John was recommended to us by a tile contractor to demo our old tile prior to the contractor installing new tile. He did a great job, put up plastic to maintain as much of the dust as possible. He showed up on time and called ahead to let us know he was on the way. He moved appliances out of the way and completed the demo job in one day and cleaned up the remnants.
