The crew was inexperienced, sloppy, lazy, and took no care in their work. They showed up late and spent a third of the day looking at their phones, dripped paint on all of my outdoor furniture, punctured roofing shingles, destroyed flower gardens, crashed their truck into a retaining wall, left paint on windows, and more. The crew manager was inefficient and ignorant, and the owner offered empty promises. In the end they caused over $10,000 in damages to my property.

After they finished painting my house, a few weeks later after heavy rains I noticed a stain on the ceiling of a guest bedroom. I knew immediately it was the long nagging problem of the "dead valley" along my roof. The house was designed and built according to the architect's drawings to have the roof of the first floor bedroom run into the siding of the house. It was a short "run" and rainfall should go quickly into the gutters. But, this was built under a big, old oak tree and for many years, I've had leaves and twigs built up, damming up the water. If I can remember it, I have to get up on a ladder with a rake and rake the leaves away from where the shingles meet the siding. After one major hailstorm, I had the roof replaced and when they replacing it, I asked them to build something to reduce the leave/branch damming. They did build it, but apparently not big enough. It lasted probably 14-15 years until this recent Spring. Since I had a good experience with 21st Century, I called them out to give me a bid on repairing what was probably rotted trim and exposed flashing and other rot elsewhere. And while they were at it, I asked them to build me a better diverter away from the siding. They came out and took care of it in a day. The guy was there from 8:30 to 5:00, taking a break for lunch, but got it done. Since they were also the painters, they asked me for the leftover paint they left for me (for touch-up) that came in handy as they had to replace the rotten trim and as it turned out a section of the roof decking. Attached are the pictures they took for the bid and then afterwards when they were complete. They were detailed enough to ask me first, "hey, this diversion we're putting in is a lighter grey then your shingles. Are you okay with that? We can go back and get darker materials". I said that was fine. No one can see that part of the roof and so it was trivial to me. The only negative thing from the painting and the roofing experience is so minor it's not worth taking away a star is that there will be a gap between when you sign and return the contract and they contact you about scheduling the actual work. In both cases, I had to drop them a line to remind them I was in the queue. Being a service that can't work when it's raining, I can understand that they have days where scheduled work is delayed and that causes a snowball effect of delays.

Their reviews were strongly favorable and more so noteworthy was that T1P had been voted Best of Idaho twice (among many other plaudits)! So, when we were ready we contacted them with the intention that they would provide us with our first estimate. We were visited by Ruth Brinton, a professional house painter and owner of T1P. She presented well with confidence and comprehension. She looked at many things that we would have likely overlooked. She made many observations and shared her thoughts with us. She also looked at the property and made recommendations regarding colors to not only enhance the house, but also to optimize the use of colors that would give balance and compliment to the property on the whole. The next day, we received the detailed estimate for the job. We were stunned to learn that T1P would do the job for well below our most auspicious estimates! All the information we had gathered convinced us that we did not have need to solicit another estimate. Incidentally, we wound up having someone else over to do the interior and this provided a basis for comparison. I can say that without a doubt Carol's work was really strikingly better. We had him come back out and paint some bedrooms after we moved into a new place as well as a bed for our sons that had seen about a decade of use and looked like it was time to go in the trash. The rooms look perfect and the bed looks brand new. I work from home and got the chance to hang out while he worked and noticed that the bulk of his time is spent prepping for the painting, not the painting itself. He is meticulous about taping and filling any cracks so that when the paint goes on and the tape comes of everything looks immaculate. Carol tends to work a little slower than the other painters I've had but its definitely for a reason and the results are obvious. We have some more painting coming up, and I have resolved never to bother calling anyone else.
