I booked an appointment at the beginning of the week for a curly cut. When booking, there was only one option for the stylist followed by a quick survey that asked for pictures of my current hair and desired cut. I was sure to fill this out immediately. When I arrived to the salon (again, DAYS after booking the appt), I was asked to wait to meet my stylist. I was brought back to her chair where she asked me to describe what I'd like. She proceeded to say that she did not feel comfortable cutting my hair type. While I am grateful that she did not jump in while unsure, I did find it pretty upsetting that the stylist and the salon chose to handle this embarrassing situation in front of other clients rather than calling me beforehand or even speaking with me at the front of the salon. Likewise, I have a difficult time understanding the purpose of submitting pictures in advance (which the stylist stated she saw), but then waiting until after I have driven to the salon to discuss. J. Bauman was actually in the salon while this was happening and offered no reassurance or alternative. He sat on his phone in the front of the salon while the stylist told me how "awkward" the situation was. The best that they could provide was asking me to come in a different day (mind you this haircut was for my graduation the next day.) If you have textured, curly hair, I'd be extremely wary of booking with the curly cut stylist and this salon in general. I found that EDUCE down the road was a similar price point with a much more understanding and qualified staff. read more

She gave Eli who was a new grad and admitted mid haircut she didn't know how to cut hair. She ruined my hair. I had originally written a glowing review of my hairstylist here. I've been going to her for 10 years and she is a great colorist. There is no denying that. However, I have recently felt almost abused with the attitude. Literally doesn't care at all and I tip 20% for 10 years. She was also abusive to her assistant in front of me. She wanted her to just rip my hair out when the assistant was trying to remove them so it wouldn't ruin my hair. I guess having an assistant at her beck & call was more important than my hair. I will NEVER after 10 plus years go there again. And this isn't the first time I've gotten the horrible attitude. I've said something one time before. Like once in 10 years! I had been looking for a salon for two years since I've moved to Florida. When I looked up Pray on Instagram I saw that he did a really good job with other women's hair. I was afraid that he wouldn't be able to do brunette hair like mine tho cause he had a lot of blondes on his insta - I even almost canceled my appointment Because I'm that serious about getting my hair right. I decided to go through with it and I am so glad I did, we started off with a conversation about my hair and what I wanted. He was real with me about the type of care I would need to put into my hair if I really wanted it to be this beautiful brown. I'm glad he gave me a reality check. We took the plunge and he gave me the exact look I wanted, with cutting it perfectly, even thinning my hair so that I wouldn't look like I had triangle hair. This is actually the email that I sent to J. Bauman Salon on March 10th (the day I was supposed to wash my hair after treatment) Hoping that I didn't have to write a bad review because I do like the salon and my stylist. But I haven't received any response from anyone to date. "Hi, I had a keratin treatment on Thursday 3/7 at your salon on Mills. I was excited to see how my hair will look like after 3 days. I kept it dry and followed all the rules to keep it "not bend" for 3 days. Today was my 3rd days and I just washed my hair with sulfate-free shampoo & conditioner. Sad to say, the result is far from my expectation. While my hair does feel softer it still has the frizz - lots of them. I understand that Keratin treatment might not take the natural wave away but I thought it'd at least take care of the frizz. I feel as I just had a deep conditioning treatment as opposed to keratin treatment. My hair was wavy and frizzy. I was hoping that the keratin treatment will relax the wave and the frizz will be gone I'm so upset because I'm going out of the country on Tuesday 03/12 and was looking forward to a frizz-free hair for 2-3 months. I hate to leave a not-so-great review but did I just waste $250 for "deep conditioning"? Ps. My stylist was good. He was very nice and helpful. read more

Carly did my hair yesterday and it turned out great! We cut about 5 inches off post-quarantine and let me tell you. Could not wait to chop this hair off. This was my first time at J Bauman, and the salon was really lovely. Ample parking, which is what I always worry about when I visit this area. Front desk was accommodating, I only had to wait a few minutes. After a brief consultation with Carly, she got to work washing and chopping. I usually come prepared with a photo, and she magically transformed my hair to EXACTLY match the photo - styled and all. The staff was very friendly and the salon has a nice ambience but it was the worst haircut I've ever gotten. I asked for my hair to stay past my shoulders in a V-cut and specified a "deep V", but at the end the shape was square. She was willing to correct it but my hair was already at my shoulders so we had to chop off even more to only slightly have a non-square shape and now it's too short. The stylist took over an hour and a half. Way too much time making small talk instead of focusing on the hairstyle. Conversation is ok only if you can multi-task and be productive. read more

First time I came in loved my coloring. Perfect. Second time I came in, coloring was asked to be blond with some strawberry blond in it as well. It turned out looking like orange stripes. And not only that but person took 5 hours to do this partial highlights and kept telling me girl your hair is gonna be RED! I hope you're ok with that. So I decided to wash it and sit on it for a bit and ended up still hating it. Extremely upset. Not what I asked for. Hair cut itself was fine. I called expressing how I felt. Prior to moving to Orlando almost 2 years ago, I had the same hair stylist for almost 10 years! I've been to a few different hair salons here in Orlando do to try to find someone like her but have not had the luck. Until today that is. I was nervous at first because the place was edgy and not really my style. But Neisjah made me feel so much at ease and she did a wonderful job correcting my hair! My last hair color and cut was at a different salon and I came out with red, copper and gold streaks! My head looked like it was on fire and not in a good way. The hair cut made me look like a mushroom. Neisjah from J Bauman transformed my atrocious hair do and made me look normal again! I cannot wait to go back to her so she can work on it some more.
