J Dawgs is a local favorite and a great lunch spot. This location is in a busy area, but still easy to access. There is some seating but not tons, so going during peak hours will be a little crazy. Usually everything is amazing when I normally come here. It's been a while so I'm not sure if something changed or if the worker just forgot to warm my bun or something. Anyways when I got my food there was hardly any of the sauce but there was SOOOO much jalapeños and banana peppers. The ratio was not good. Along with all that my bun was dry AF and was falling apart instantly making it extremely hard to eat it as a whole. Hopefully they didn't change their buns or anything because these were horrible. In my opinion, j dawgs are actually the best hot dogs!! I love them so much I had them at my wedding. Today, I decided to stop into this location for lunch. It was pretty busy, but things moved quickly. At this location, they ask you the toppings you want when ordering instead of having you move down the line and wait to tell the person making it. Then they yell out your name when the order is ready. It went really smoothly and was nice to be able to fill my drink while I waited. I always get the special sauce. It's delicious. They have a great soda fountain with a bunch of different options. There is really something for everyone! The Diet Coke brew is good! The inside is cute and has a decent amount of tables. Best dogs, but average toppings. Restaurant was clean and service was quick. The topping options were basically the same as any hotdog cart and poorly advertised. But really how many options do you want? The only topping that was subpar was the sauerkraut. It was just shredded cabbage soaked in vinegar. Still crunchy and none of the complexity of flavor or nutritional value that you might associate with sauerkraut. But the actual meat stick is the best I have had anywhere and I would definitely buy that in a store. For our July 4th dogs we got these and cooked them on the bbq. Went to get a hotdog to go after working all day and leaving my office late. Supposedly it closes at 10. I walked up at 9:50. As I approached the door all the workers went into the back room. I tried to go in but the door was locked. So, just remember that if you are craving a J dawg after working a long day, you won't be able to get one if the workers decide they want to close early. Surprisingly I've never reviewed this location despite being a fan of j dawgs for a while Well today I was not impressed like usual. My dawgs had cold buns were not really fresh. Quite surprising considering they were cooking them or at least it looked like they were. service was good but very slow. In the past I've been here and have been wowed with flavor and speed and upbeat service while nothing wrong with the service it was a little robotic and lacking warmth like there was in the past. Today I got a regular beef hot dog with that delicious sweet special sauce! Oh my gosh I love that stuff! I don't like a lot of other stuff on my dogs so it was perfect. I love how the hot dog is long enough to hang out of the bun. There was some in every bite! And the way that they score the dogs before cooking helps them to open up and hold more of that delicious sauce! My only complaint is that they don't have French fries. That would have made the meal complete! They do have potato chips, but not the good brand. (For my taste. Kettle cooked is to hard and thick). But other than that it was delicious! read more

Okay I can now see what all the hype is about! This was one of the better hotdogs I've tasted, complete with onions, sauerkraut, special sauce, and a pickle. You get your choice between a polish dog (which has got a little bit of a kick to it) and just good ol' fashioned beef. They also have ketchup and mustard if you're not feeling the sauce. But trust me, you'll want it. It's got a yummy sweet flavor that compliments the other condiments well. The hotdog is cut like a chain link fence, which allows for the flavors to really soak in and enhance every bite--you're living life to the fullest when you can really taste everything with one chomp. This restaurant is tiny but gets the job done, you don't need much when all you want is a hotdog. My only suggestion would be to offer other special sauces, and maybe even a couple of deals on different days. $4 for a hotdog isn't terrible, as long as you're not starving, because then you'll want two and $8 is a heck of a lot to spend. I love hot dogs, so I was super excited to try J Dawgs since I've heard such good things. I split a beef and polish dog with a friend to see which was better. Definitely order the polish, it had more flavor. The dog to bun ratio is off, and the menu in my opinion is far too simple. I wish they had more topping options or maybe like a monthly special would be nice. I guess for $4 a dog I would expect more. The service was nice and the restaurant was very clean. The ordering process was kind of messy since they don't take your name or give you a number and you basically all stand around until they ask you what you ordered. Think of it like In N' Out but for hot dogs. You know that really basic, simple menu with a few straightforward items? That's it. Only it's even less items. Two items, really. Hot dogs. Polish dogs. $4 each. From there, it's not much more complicated--you can get chips and a fountain drink to go along with the dog ($1 and $2 respectively) and then you get to pick a few toppings. I dig the kraut, banana peppers and pickle (I like that it's in spear form) but usually skip the onions and jalapeños or relish. They're known for the special sauce, but keep in mind that stuff is sickly sweet. I hadn't been in ages so I decided to try this new location and give the special sauce another try, but it was just too sweet. Stick with the mustard, and you can also dress with spicy mustard, tabasco, or sriracha, all available on the condiment stand. The dogs themselves are good, but I have a strong preference for the polish dog. It has a bit more spice and flavor, and still has a great snap. They criss-cross cut them before grilling and it's super effective in bringing out the flavor. The buns are almost-toasted (warmed on the grill, really) and pillowy soft. I prefer something with a bit more body, but they'll do. You walk in, make your order, and then you sorta have to hang out by the counter while they prep for you. When they call your order, you come and tell them how to dress it. I see this as a real potential for cluster if you get a big group. When they call "Regular" how do you know whose it is? I've heard rumors of line jumping, and even unintentionally there is some potential for problems--why not find a better way to track this? All in all, you've got a pretty decent, simple hot dog option now in this shopping development. That staff is really friendly, and the location looks like they're ready to open a hundred more--very polished and scale-able, clean, if not cozy. The seating drove me a little nuts, though--you have those awkward, tall up against the wall seats, where you can't really see the person you came with without going knee to knee; some crazy low communal stools and tables; those awkwardly tall, round circular tables with no tabletop real estate and backless stools for sitting; and only a handful of normal, adult-size seating exists with real tables. Was really looking forward to this visit. A lot of reviews had it as one of (if not) one of the best hot dogs in the entire State of Utah. I'm a huge hot dog lover so I was eager to give them a try. Considering all they do is beef and polish dogs, I was kinda let down. They let you customize your dogs with like 7-8 toppings and several different condiments, but that's all you get. I found it to closely resemble a Costco dog in size and taste with the only real exception being the fancier bun. I spent $7 on a dog, small chips and a small drink. Apparently if you live in Utah you HAVE to go to J Dawgs. At least that's what my husband says everyone tells him. When a location opened up near our home we decided to see what the fuss was about. Basically, it's like a food truck, only in a small restaurant. Or if you took Five Guys or In N Out, but with hot dogs and less options. I'm not saying it's bad...but is it good? You have the choice between a beef or polish hot dog (which is apparently just beef with some other spices), you choose your toppings (sauerkraut, banana peppers, jalapeño, pickle, onions, special sauce, mustard, and ketchup), and you can add chips and a drink. That's it. Really. They actually have more apparel options than hot dogs, which strikes me as kind of ridiculous. The hot dog itself was big and had good flavor. I liked the banana peppers and sauerkraut. The bun was like Wonder Bread (gross), and the special sauce, while not exactly bad, was very sweet. It reminded me of baked beans without the beans. And what's up with the pickle? They stick a whole pickle spear on your bun. Are you supposed to tuck it in, or eat it separately? The employees were friendly, and service was quick. We got there around 7:00pm on a Saturday, and there were about 6 or 7 people inside, but it quickly got busy by the time we'd left. I can understand the appeal for some. Super simple, fairly cheap ($4 for the dog, $2 for a drink, and $1 for chips) and pretty filling for the price. Would I go again? Probably not. I wouldn't fight it if someone wanted to go, but I'm not going out of my way. It doesn't get more straightforward than this. It's basically a brick and mortar hot dog stand. You place your order for your $4 dog, then wait a minute or two for them to pull it off the grill, drop it in its warm toasted blankie, and you tell them what you want on it. The special sauce is funky. I've never had sweet sauce on a dog before...but I think I kind of dig it! The polish dog is the way to go. Lots more flavor than a beef dog, in my opinion. They slice a cool criss cross pattern on the dogs for grilling. It really allows the grill flavor to get IN the dog. Gonna have to try that when grilling at home. Really made a difference. The staff is really friendly. They like to joke around and chat. The dining area is small. A long communal wooden bench with small tables on one side, and a long outcropped shelf for standup or tall stool dining on the other. But who comes to a hotdog stand for the dining ambiance? The corner store in the Shops @ Fort Union has long struggled to find a permanent resident, most recently the excellent grilled cheese joint Melty Way. If my first visit to J Dawgs is any indication, they may be heading to the same fate. I'm sure their Dogs are excellent, but you just can't fail Restaurant 101, of which the first tenet is: The Grill Works. In this case, J Dawgs failed. I'm sure there are many who will say that this is unfair, but to me it's an indicator of poor infrastructure: not purchasing the best, state-of-the-art equipment leads to problems like this. For example, I've been to the Five Guys in the same complex at the same time of day dozens of times; never have they had any faulty equipment. They do burgers AND hot dogs AND fries AND shakes and so on ... not J Dawgs very simple menu. What's next? The cooler at J Dawgs fails to properly cool the dogs and everyone gets food poisoning?
