I haven't had j dawgs in a while, but I've been wanting to introduce it to my boyfriend, who despite being a Utah native, has never had it before! Needless to say, it did not disappoint. He got a polish dog with special sauce, sauerkraut, and a pickle, and was impressed! Solid 8.5/10; he said it's not as good as Portillo's (the gold standard for Chicago dogs) but still liked it. He said he doesn't usually like hot dogs, but could see himself craving it. I got a beef dog with special sauce, onions, and a sprinkle of celery salt, and it hit the spot for me (9/10)! I would've wanted the server to be a bit more heavy-handed with the special sauce, but there are free little to-go cups you can grab yourself, so I definitely added some to mine. I'm sure we'll be back. It's a little tucked away from City Creek and we didn't even realize it's been this close to where we live all this time, but now that we know, it'll be added to our rotation! Restaurant is clean and modern. Be sure to go straight and then right to order rather than directly right. We saw a lot of people make the wrong choice and have to turn around. A more obvious sign on the wall rather than hanging from the ceiling might be a good idea! read more

Stopped in before a hockey game for a quick bite. Not many customers and only two employees. Location at City Creek was clean and has plenty of seating. Our order took a bit to be made, but it was made fresh and wasn't a precooked hot dog sitting under a warming lamp. Well worth the wait. The staff were friendly and helpful. They have a lot of condiments available and the food was served hot. Definitely worth a visit and certainly better service, price and quality... instead of grabbing a hotdog, fries and drink at the Delta Arena J.Dawgs location. read more

This new location is beautifully designed both interior and exterior. The dawgs taste as amazing as ever. But the best news of all....wait for it....they now have fries instead of the awful kettle chips they used to have. And these fries are absolutely superb! Perfectly seasoned and crispy. My wife was craving a Chili Cheese Dog so I looked up a place that sells specifically Hot Dogs. There were three places I found in the area we were at. So I picked one and gave it a try. J. Dawg s at 50 E. South Temple St.,Salt Lake City, Utah USA, located on the North side of the City Creek Mall, just East of the North entrance doors going into MACY'S and just West of VRX Pharmacy.. It is hard to see from the street, and their signage is small and almost impossible to see. Well my wife and I went in to order a meal and it is a Fast Food style restaurant that serves two types of Hot Dogs and has Six choices of toppings, Seasoned French Fries, and Fountain Drinks. When we first walked in the employees were all talking to each other and a few High School aged kids that were getting their food and drinks discounted. So I had to cough loudly to get their attention.one of the young employees came over to the register and turned to grab a stool to sit on and then said, "What you want?" I asked how the place operated and how I order my meal? The employee turned and pointed to the sign and said, "That is what we have!" I asked what he would recommend since I still didn't understand what I needed to do to order a meal and how it worked, and he said " we have Hot Dogs and Fries!" I again asked if he would recommend something to me? He said , "Everything we sell is on the board. So I got the attention of the two kids over on the grill cooking and asked if one of them would explain to us the process of ordering and getting our meal. One of them came over and asked what we needed. I told him that I wasn't a big hot dog fan but that my wife was craving a Chili Cheese Dog and wanted one now. He said that they don't sell chilies. I said , I've had COSTCO's hot dog and drink for $1.50 and know what that is all about, but I'm here at a restaurant that specializes in hotdogs so can you recommend one for me to try? His answer blew me away! He told me that he would recommend me a hotdog because he might like something and I might not like the same thing and so he refused to recommend me a hotdog to purchase. I asked him if he would just make me a hotdog, and I don't care how it's made, if it's a polish dog or a beef dog, and I don't care what condiments it has on it , I just want a hotdog that most people would enjoy if they ordered it from there place of business. He actually turned to his fellow employees and ripped off his apron and said that he wasn't going to deal with such bullshit and so he was going to punch out and go home, and he did. The other kid cooking on the grill came over and asked me if I wanted a generic hotdog and anything on it? I said yes. He started cooking it. My wife ordered a polish dog with onions and sweet peppers on it. The kid at the register rang them up and gave us our total. I asked if they came in a meal or if they had anything else I could get with it? He gave me my total and I paid for it. I then asked that since I wasn't able to order a drink, if I could get a cup for water? He told me that the water cups were over near the fountain. I asked if I could order some fries to go with our order and he just rang them up and gave me a price due. I paid for it and grabbed our food when it was ready. I have the kid who cooked our meals and recommended my hotdog a $5.00 tip and we left pretty disappointed in the joint or restaurant. You can probably guess that I won't be going back there again. Next time my wife is craving a Chili Cheese Dog, I am taking here to Alberto's Mexican Food in Salt Lske City, Utah ,just off of 500 S. 300 W. I will admit that after we left J. Dawgs and got to the Food Court in the mall, we sat down to eat the hotdogs and found them both to be quite good and almost delicious. But no, I'll never do return business there at J. Big fan of J.Dawgs! Big fan of their take home kits! It is surprising to see that they have some of the best fries around. I wouldn't expect that at a hotdog joint. We came here for a quick bite before exploring the Temple grounds. You can choose from polish or beef sausages and add a variety of toppings for free including sauerkraut, banana peppers, raw diced onions, pickles, and jalapeños! For sauces, they had an in-house BBQ that was super yummy. The inside was gorgeous and had plenty of seating, but we chose to sit in the covered "patio" of windows to the right of the restaurant by the mall. The service was wonderful as they walked me through the process and what combinations of food they liked best. I also loved the crunchy fries that came with it! A good hot dog, but it's still a $6 hot dog with ketchup, mustard, onions, pickles, jalapeños, sauerkraut , banana peppers, and "Special" sauce which tastes suspiciously like grocery store BBQ sauce to me. Beef or Polish hot dogs are cooked to order and they will add your toppings at pickup time. Since they're cooked fresh, expect a five minute wait. a hot dog, fries, fountain drink was $13.05. Delicious hot dogs but the guy up front treated me like literal garbage when I asked any questions about condiments or if we were allowed to sit out in the area to the right of the building in the courtyard (I asked nicely so I can't fathom the rudeness) ? He also immediately walked over to the girl in the kitchen and it was very clear they were having a laugh about me for some reason. Just incredibly rude.
