THE best bakery in Kokomo. The variety of beautiful chocolates, cakes, and cupcakes rivals that of boutique and gourmet patisseries in larger cities, but is much more affordable. I live all the way out in Seattle now, but I still use them for surprises for my family back in Kokomo. I liked everything about the store except for the cramped parking. But once you find a spot, you will be glad you stopped! Not only do they have a display counter for individual chocolates (I got two kinds of turtles that were delicious!), but they carry cakes, cupcakes, bagged candies, some popcorn and canned items, and even some gift ideas like soaps and mugs. The staff was friendly and let the customers browse. Note that when you order from the chocolate counter or pickup something from the surrounding shelves/displays, you wait at the cashier with everyone else (so the person who helps with your chocolate isn't the one who handles your money.) There were also a couple staff members out on the floor of the shop helping people who were wanting assistance on making selections or for ordering items to be shipped. Note that there is a small sampling station in the middle of the store where you can try some of their products. I didn't try them since I was already focused on what I wanted when I arrived. If I could give ten stars, it would not be enough. I love cake, I mean really love cake. I never turn it down. I get cake everywhere and J Edwards is my absolute favorite. Their cakes and cupcakes are so pretty, you almost don't want to eat it. But, you will. Maybe even 30 seconds out of the parking lot. I ordered a cake from here for a birthday surprise. After arriving home I opened the cake to see it and it was perfect. Once I went to serve the cake though we opened the box to find a mess. It was more than disappointing as this was for a surprise birthday. I reached out to them by email and received an email back asking for a picture. They called me later that day and informed me that after reviewing the pictures that it looks as if it melted from the hot day (2-10-24 which had a high of about 62 degrees). They also informed me that I should have refrigerated the cake until 15 minutes before serving. I told them I wasn't aware of that and that I thought it would be fine at room temperature. They then told me that there were signs all over the store. I ordered online however and simply picked up in the store and never saw any signs about refrigerating the cake nor have I ever refrigerated any of their cakes before. The best they were willing to offer were 4 cupcakes. They weren't super kind and treated me as if I was just trying to get something for free. I've ordered several cakes from here before and I've loved them all. This "cake" was delicious but the customer service was so poor that I won't return. The difference in price between what they offered and what I bought was $5. The lack of kindness and the willingness to fix the issue is disappointing. read more

I decided to stop in because I'm addicted to chocolate and two do my trainees said I must stop in. The chocolate is amazing! It's rich and creamy. Also the white cloud cupcake was heaven. Wow, do these people know their stuff when it comes to sugar. You just about get a contact high when you walk in the door! We tried a number of the chocolates in the case --all amazing... Turtle brownie was awesome, and a sample of a peanut butter chocolate dessert--not even sure what it was-- almost like a lighter, creamier cheesecake type thing. They had a TON of cupcakes on offer, and a lot of fun cards and other longer shelf-life gourmet items. This would definitely be a place to put together a birthday or other special gift basket. A cake was ordered well in advance for a very special family occasion--the surprise celebration of our mom's/grandma's birthday. When we phoned to confirm the order two weeks ahead, we were told that there was no record of the order. We then, replaced the order. A week later we received a phone call from the bakery asking if we wanted two of the cakes, we clarified that there was one cake desired. When we went to pick up the cake, they asked for us to pay--but we had already prepaid over the phone weeks earlier. Confusing! We had ordered a 10" decorated vanilla layer cake with butter cream icing and strawberry filling. What we received was 10" vanilla layer cake--the cake tasted like a box mix, the "buttercream" icing tasted of shortening and without a trace of real butter, the filling had an artificial strawberry flavor, the decorations were very basic and lacked even moderate skill. The price for this cake was in keeping with a very fine pastry shop which this product was certainly not an example. It's hard for me to even figure out how to put into words how amazing J Edwards is! When I first moved to the area I heard people left and right raving about this place. I would have never imagined how incredible my experience would be! I've only ever had cake from J Edwards but that in its self is so heavenly. Everything from presentation to flavor is just out of this world! BUT that's not even the best part about this place! I work for a senior living community in the area and J Edwards is ALWAYS offering to drop off sweet treats for the residents and staff. In a time like this, with COVID, the smallest gestures go a long way in a health care community and J Edwards NEVER fails to do their part to provide incredible customer service and be a wonderful contributor to its community and the people within it. I can't believe a business this disorganized is still in business. They lost the order, then they doubled the order, and then they forgot I had prepaid... The cake was ok, but the frosting definitely wasn't a buttercream, more like a canned frosting and it fell off the cake when it was sliced. We ordered a strawberry filling in the cake and cupcakes. I ordered a cake for my husbands retirement party. I read about this bakery on an Indiana top places to visit. I drove 80 miles one way to get it. It was a beautiful cake, Banana split. The cake was very dry and really couldn't taste the flavors of one layer from the next. I also ordered full size cupcakes, chocolate mouse heaven. I thought they were small when I picked up, but everyone seems to be downsizing. Very disappointed! They were just plain dry mini chocolate cake with white cool whip topping. All I can think is that I was given the wrong ones. I reached out to the shop by email and they sent me a survey. No response to the email. This has been my go-to cake/desserts place for the past 10 years. Even after moving 50+ miles away, I still make the drive on special occassions when I need a cake that brings the "wow factor." The banana split cake is to die for and always seems to be made with love! Their chocolates are also delicious. The owner, Mr. J. Oh..what to say...and how to say....first...there is not much in Kokomo to brag about...I mean it really is not a foodie city. I moved here from Ann Arbor...foodie paradise. I quickly found J. Edwards and for the last 4 years have been faithful to them for family b-days, Easter and Christmas. This past B-day...my daughter came home from a 13 year tour in the Middle East...our first b-day together in 13 years...I was very excited and wanted to have a J. Edwards cake to celebrate....I was quickly disappointed. I called the week before and asked to have a cake LIGHTLY frosted...my daughter does not like a lot of frosting. There was sooo MUCH frosting on this cake..we could not eat it...3/4 ended up in the trash. Thin layers of cake...with thick layers of frosting...it was horrible! I just ate my first chocolate from J. Edwards and I am speechless! I have never ever tasted a good chocolate (in this case filled with some sort of coconut stuff) in my life!!! I have eaten A LOT of chocolates before (I'm a chocolate freak) but this one was the smoothest creamiest chocolate ever. If I would have to describe the chocolate, it would be a sweat creamy cloud, melting with a velvety texture in my mouth.
