I decided to change my haircolor from a dirty blonde back to my natural white/silver color. So, the salon was tasked with turning white roots, blonde highlights & brown lowlights into a completely different look. I also asked for some dove gray lowlights to give my white/silver hair some dimension. I also asked for a sassy new haircut. Tall order, right? This is a great place to get your hair cut, nails done, hair styled, what ever makes you (more) beautiful. Janelle (an owner) is my fave- but I trust anyone she would hire. I stop in here whenever I am in town to get a trim or have them fix up my hair for a wedding or highly stylized event. It's not because I'm fancy and it's not because I am terrible at doing my hair (or maybe it is); it's because it is real pleasure to pop in. Some salons make you feel like what the mean salesclerk did to Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman; but I promise that will never happen here! This local business is the epitome of everything that is right in a small business. Great service, available owner's, skillful stylists, affordable rates. It's like being in a (ground level) tree house with your most talented hair stylist friends. My old boyfriend goes there to get his hair cut, and he has crazy brillo-pad- permy hair- but I swear you would never know from the hair cuts he gets from here (And it also says a lot that a 20 something sporty guy feels comfortable enough to pop into a ladies salon)! read more

This place is shady. They buy their low quality products from a discount amazon store in Asia, where the products aren't America's FDA approved, and pass them off as part of their quality service. They talk smack about their customers behind their backs while the customer is still there. If you buy services from Groupon or LivingSocial the manager complains that they are losing money just so you can top them more. Oh, the kicker, the fake account reviews are the icing on the cake. Branford, until this owner cleans up her act, take your business elsewhere. UPDATE: I received a personal message from the shop owner (as well as a reply to this post) and was very upset at me writing a negative review. This shop owner is not very nice and further entrenched my initial review of her shop. If you are upset and don't like the review, then change your way of how you treat your customers and the reviews will get better. Shop owner, If you don't like new customers using your LivingSocial or your Groupon then stop offering that deal.. Especially don't trash talk them them in your shop, behind their back, when they come in wanting to use your coupon. BTW, yes, I am referring to your shop in Branford Connecticut. I don't normally leave reviews but that's how amazing this salon is! My hair was in pretty bad shape and not only did she color it exactly if not better then what I asked but it hasn't felt healthier!! I'm relieved to have found this hidden gem.. I will be back! read more

I love J Renee! Dana is my stylist, and she's great. Super sweet, very accommodating, and I always leave happy. Janelle, the woman who owns this great little spot, is super sweet and and not only is she a very knowledgable stylist and colorist, she also does manicures and pedicures in her little spot. Janelle will most likely be the one who calls you back after you leave a message inquiring about an appointment, she always returns phone calls promptly and will work to get you an appointment as soon as they can get you in. Their hours are a bit funky, not the typical salon hours that I'm used to, and that makes it tough for me to get appointments during their regular hours. The great thing about this salon is that they are willing to work with you, even if it means they have to come in early or leave later than they might normally want to. Dana always comes in early to help me out, since they typically don't open until 2 and my work day starts at 1 and ends at 9pm- and I'm done and looking great in time for my workday to start. They are awesome!! If you like small, friendly, comfortable and personal salons then I highly recommend J Renee if you're anywhere near the Branford area (although they are definitely worth a drive even if you're not!). read more

If you need any sort of color correction or a great hair cut/highlight Anna is your girl! I went in with bleached white all over hair that was fried and she has brought me to a beautiful more natural look while still keeping me blonde. The atmosphere is super cute and inviting. I have also loved my haircuts and get exactly what I ask for. I think the price is very reasonable for the time, care and results I have gotten. This is the first time in 4 years that I have gone back to the same stylist/salon more than twice! read more

Way too short. Not remotely what I asked for. Morgan needs to listen to what the client wants. This haircut will probably be good in 6 months when it grows out. I asked for a stacked a line bob showing exactly where I wanted the longest piece in the front and how short I wanted it in the back. NO LAYERS! and came out with my grandmas mushroom cut from the 80's. I wasted $48.00. :( and an additional $10 for barrettes to hide this mess! Unbelievable . Instead of pushing product listen to what your client wants . And owner Janelle is absolutely no help and extremely unprofessional! She will not give me a refund and says she stands by her work! Hmm? You gave men crew cuts all morning while I was there. You stand by chopping someone's hair and not giving them what they want.? Would not recommend . Been terrified to go to a new stylist since moving into town, but I had a job interview and couldn't put it off any longer. Dana was amazing at fitting me in and making me feel about ten years younger. A beautiful little shop easily missed on N. Main St, J Renee is worth going just to peruse the nooks of fun products they have for sale. But it's the service that rocks. I got highlights, root color and a cut for a very reasonable price. What made it all such a great experience was that I felt as if Dana really took the time to figure out what I wanted. I will most definitely be a repeat customer. read more

I love this salon; Dana is awesome. Not only are the prices reasonable, but there is no arrogant attitudes that I've experienced at a few other salons. I had to cancel last minute on a Friday; Dana was so accomodating, going above and beyond what most stylists would do - she stayed late the next day to do my cut and color because it was my anniversary.
