Julianne is amazing! I moved back to CT from New York five years ago and struggled to find a hairdresser for years. I went here for the first time last week and saw Julianne. I'm so glad I did! I hadn't gotten my hair done in 6 months and was trying a new place after my long time hair stylist moved. I was really nervous and unsure what I wanted to do, I just knew I needed a cut and color to make me love my hair again. Julianne was awesome and my hair came out so beautiful! She did a consult with me and when I changed my mind the day of appointment, she adjusted and transformed my hair. I'm so happy with how my hair looks now and am so relieved to have found my new hair person. Plus, the salon was clean and comfortable and has complimentary Prosecco. Just got my hair colored for the first time and I seriously love it. I have very curly (biracial) hair and Gina knew exactly how to work with it. I got a face frame balayage and Gina helped me choose a color that would allow me to ease into lighter hair. The results of the balayage along with the blowout are amazing! I was so scared to go lighter for fear of damaging my curls, but my hair is so healthy and you'd never know that I just had it lightened. I'll be coming to Rebel and seeing Gina for my hair color and blowouts from now on! I've already gotten so many compliments and I can't wait to come back and do balayage on the rest of my head. Seriously cannot believe how easy and damage-free the process was with Gina! Rebel is such a nice salon too, and everyone was really friendly. I have gotten great haircuts here in the past, but was surprised to see that they are not complying with the New Haven mandatory mask mandate. They have a sign on the door saying you can choose whether or not to wear a mask, and they will not allow discussion of "politics" or COVID. The mask mandate is not "politics"-- it is a city regulation. Disappointed. read more

I love my hair! My stylist, Meredith, just gave me the best cut of my life. This is the second time I have sat in Meredith's chair and I thought her work was perfection the first time - but she outdid herself this time. What I love about Meredith is that when I asked her to use her talent, expertise and creativity to create a style for me, she took it to heart. She proposed some ideas which included a much shorter, a-line, undercut style and I love it. She first cut my hair in July and strangers have told me that they love my hair - on a few occasions - in the past few months. That has never happened to me in my life and it's a pretty great feeling! Meredith is also kind, fun and easy to talk to. I noticed a previous review mentioned upselling, but this was not at all my experience. Meredith was happy to tell me about the products, but only because I asked. Rebel is a beautiful space with great energy. I would love to hang out here. What I also love about this place is their attention to sustainability - something incredibly important to me. Their products are vegan and most are organic AND they have a refilling station so you don't have to continually buy and recycle more plastic bottles. I LOVE THIS!!! They also don't use paper products outside of the TP in the bathroom. Washing a full load of towels has less environmental impact than making, distributing, and disposing of paper towels. The prices here are on par with what I have paid in Fairfield County but with a far, far better experience. read more

Salon is well laid out, great location with convenient parking. But overall experience was just okay. Personable stylists but found it very, very overpriced per the quality. Had to wait for almost 40 minutes. Had someone not gotten me a glass of wine about 20 minutes in I was about to walk out. Not impressed with the person who let me wait for 20 minutes since I had seen her several times before I got my glass of wine. So not sure Rebel cares about customer service. My stylist didn't even come to say hello, even though I had been seated in her chair for 40 minutes. She also didn't listen carefully since about 5 minutes into the cut I had to tell her again what I wanted. I do like the cut but I was made to feel that wanting just a haircut and a new customer put me on the bottom of their priority list. read more

Rebel presents itself as an upscale salon. The space is beautiful. They treat you well (though they upsell). And it charges about double what you'd pay at another New Haven salon for all services. But those hair and color services are, at best extremely mediocre, even form the salon's owner. Don't let the packaging, presentation, pricing and style of this place lure you into a belief that you're trusting people at the top of the local market with your hair. You're not. They are only the top in prices and interior design. Try an established hair salon instead. read more

I went in today having damaged hair from a terrible bleach job inquiring about extensions. We worked out a great deal, the staff are so kind and understanding. Wow! Rebel opened up in the new hip part of East Rock, leading by example. It's everything you want in a salon... clean, cool setting; animal and environmentally friendly; experienced staff; and a thoughtful owner. Mikayla took my brassy overly blonde hair and blended it back to my natural color and made it look incredible. She educated me on everything she was doing and why and made me feel so at home. The stylists at Rebel are an amazing group. I love "me time" at EVERY appointment. Although Meagan (the owner) has been my stylist for YEARS, the other ladies never disappoint. They all have my color and cut on point before they let me walk out the door. The salon has a simple modern style. There is a large elegant space for the ladies. The guys have a fabulous station filled with masculine style AND a whiskey bar. The spa room is definitely an experience.
