Our wedding was at Carondelet House which is an indoor venue with several rooms and a couple courtyards, so logistically it is challenging. After countless searches of photographers, especially ones that have worked at Carondelet House, Jen's photographs (which my husband found on Pinterest) were the ONLY ones that mesmerized me and left an indelible mark in my brain! She captures a couple's story so well with candid emotions, beautiful lighting, and perspectives no other photographers would have captured! I had to track her down! I knew she was the one when I met with her for coffee at a very short notice. Our personalities meshed so well and she has such a positive energy that I knew my husband and I would be very at ease in front of her camera. My wife and I are beyond thrilled to have had Jen with us on our big day. We began following Jen's work on Instagram quite some time ago and we knew we'd made the right choice as soon as we received her response to our initial enquiry. Normally, I hate wedding photos. And normally, I don't much like weddings, either. But the combination of the incredibly fun bride & groom and the INCREDIBLE CREATIVE TALENT that Jen has resulted in the most spectacular wedding photos I have ever seen. And I am not alone... all of my friends who have seen these photos (who don't know the B&G or anyone else) say they are the best wedding photos ever. What makes them the best? They are unusual. They are funny. Although some are "posed," they're not stuffy -- more "staged." I was a bridesmaid, and Jen took the wedding party around and let us just play in the reception space (the VERY, VERY COOL Salvage One, which has amazing antiques and just...stuff...everywhere)... and on the rooftop in the dark...she got shots that NOBODY thought would turn out, but which look absolutely gorgeous. She really captured everything about the day, from morning in the hotel suite to evening at the party. She got candids that completely capture the complete fun and whimsy of the day, and the personalities of the individuals involved. Her "posed" shots were so fun and different... the B&G photo shoot after the ceremony was downtown, on the roads, on the bridges, with rain and traffic -- seriously, looked straight out of some "Chicago Bride"-type magazine. (Actually, there probably IS a "Chicago Bride" magazine, right?) Plus, everyone looks GREAT. My fiance and I asked Jen to photograph our engagement session, and we were so incredibly happy with this decision. Jen photographed our wedding day in June 2013. We can't begin to say how much we loved working with Jen. First of all, her personality is wonderful. She is so positive and is such fun to hang out with. She made us feel right at ease during our engagement session and we knew our wedding day would be so fun knowing that she would allow us to be our silly selves without too many "posed" pictures. My partner and I had a couple's photo session with Jen earlier this year. It was comfortable, chill, and (surprisingly) super fun! Even if I didn't get any pictures out of it I still would count it as an amazing day. We spent the whole time laughing and messing around together, and the photos came out beautifully. Jen took us through nooks and crannies of Venice with gorgeous landscaping and architecture, gave us helpful direction so we weren't left floundering in front of the camera, and let me and my partner be our weird, dorky selves together. I found Jen on Yelp, too, so I have to leave a review here as well. I am beyond happy with our elopement photos that she took! I knew we were going to have great pictures when I looked at her portfolio and saw the reviews here, but I have to say my expectations have been exceeded. Not only does Jen do a great job with the technical aspects of photography, but she was fantastic at getting us to relax and look natural in the photos. We were traveling from out of town, so we were unable to do an engagement session before the wedding. Neither of us have ever really had professional photos taken and I was a little nervous we were going to look awkward or fake since were are not used to being photographed. But Jen's personality and expertise made it actually really fun and easy to do photos - we were able to relax easily and our smiles in the photos are genuine! She has great ideas for how to move and how to pose, and has a good eye for which locations will make for the best photos. She's also fun - it felt like we were hanging out with a friend rather than doing a formal photo shoot. I think this not only made a great memory by making our session/ceremony fun, but also really made our photos turn out great because we were able to just be ourselves and enjoy what we were doing. I met Jennifer through a photographer friend when we all went out to do a practice run at a location she'd never been to before in preparation for an engagement shoot she was doing the next day. DId that make sense? She spent her own time with a volunteer model (me) to get the shoot right for her customers. We booked Jen Wiley for our wedding photos at our celebration at the Victorian in Santa Monica and she did an amazing job! We couldn't be happier with her and all of our friends and family love the photos too. I just received our wedding album, and wanted to give people an idea of what to expect after the initial rush of the wedding has worn off. First off, we decided to go all out, and got the metal etched cover. A photograph really cannot do it justice; it's absolutely gorgeous and has a very classic, yet modern feel (I was a little worried it might feel gimmicky; those fears were unfounded). My husband and I have very contrasting tastes (he loves everything geometric, symmetrical, and no mixing of color v. black and white, I like contrast and asymmetry), and Jen did a great job of incorporating both those aesthetics, so that we were both able to say that this is our album. As we went through page by page, we were amazed at how she was able to pick up all our little, unspoken favorite things about both the venue and our guests: how the afternoon sun makes the sky just the right color blue in San Diego, catching my dad cracking a joke to my mom while dancing and her shocked/amused reaction, my anticipation of eating as we cut the cake (I loves me some cake!). In short, I'm looking forward to spending every anniversary opening up a bottle of good wine (or maybe mixing a cocktail), and flipping through the pages of our album with my wonderful husband. First and foremost, Jen defines dedication while being exceptionally good at her craft. She spent her birthday with us for our elopement. The whole time she was cheerful, friendly yet focused. We love the photos and have heard wonderful praises about them when we shared them with family and friends. While picking a photographer, we both had separate lists. Not to our surprise, J Wiley Photography was both of our first choices. I appreciate that her photos don't just capture wedding couples but also the world around them. The photos tell a story in an artistic way and there is a feel to her photos that you don't get with most others. Jen did a wonderful job despite all odds being against her. The weather being finger numbing-ly cold (I was impressed she could hold onto her camera, not to mention change lenses and tweak all the buttons), quickly fading sunlight, a hike into the park and the list goes on. We cast a wide net for wedding photographers, since we're based in Minneapolis and were planning a wedding in San Francisco. Once we started considering flying someone in vs. using a local San Francisco photographer, there were a ton of options. Outstanding. I cannot even say enough about her! A long story short, for my boyfriend's birthday, I wanted to give him some photos of me (regular pics - get your heads out of the gutter). Since we are in an LDR, I figured it would be a great present to give him some professional shots of me. Now, I would like to say that I HATE myself in photos. I mean everyone has a thing they don't like about the way they look and my thing is obvious at me in photos. I think it makes me look like a muppet. There have been very few candid or professional photos that I like of myself. I chose Jen based on a recomendation of a friend. After 3 sessions, I wound up with TONS of fantastic shots. I loved the way I looked in the photos - very natural and beautiful, which is something I don't usually say about photos of myself. She has a fantastic eye, a command of her camera (I think she put some kind of spell on it to make me look this good), and a knack for making her subject feel comfortable being themselves. Jennifer is an amazing photographer. This past December, she came over to our home and photographed my 3 month old daughter for 1.5 hours. She did an outstanding job dealing with a fussy 3 month old. She went above and beyond turning our home into a photo shoot. When we got the pictures back, we were astounded at how she captured our daughter's little personality during the time she was here. We had so many great pictures (I mean dozens) that our biggest problem was picking out which ones we thought were the best. I was lucky enough to have Jen be our photographer for our July 1st 2011 wedding- I do not think their are enough positive adjectives in the world to describe Jen and her amazing photos. She's extremely easy to work and communicate with, very professional but fun with a great personality, responds quickly to questions/emails (any Bride will appreciate this) and most importantly a wonderful person in general. Her photos are timeless and elegant but also fun and quirky at the same time. When it came to planning our wedding one thing we both wanted was to have a unique photographer-most times when you look at wedding photos they are standard and unoriginal and that was the last thing we wanted. I searched the web and called a few places and after talking to the photographers without any chemistry at all-I turned to Facebook and started clicking on random peoples wedding photos, I luckily some how got redirected to Jens page and was amazed by her work -it had the vintage romantic feeling we were looking for. The first time I talked to Jen we ended up being on the phone for over 2 hours-talking about everything from my upcoming wedding to our personal life and by the end of our conversation I told her to save our date. We used her for both our engagement and wedding photos and both experiences were extremely enjoyable- especially since we were both nervous having our pictures taken. Everyone loved our engagement pictures and were blown away by all the different shots and angles- they turned out better then we could have imagined and ended up using them for our save the dates. Jen was hands down, our favorite wedding vendor. Wedding photography was the top of my priority list while wedding planning. I went through dozens and dozens of photographer websites and portfolios before finding Jen. As soon as I met her, I knew we'd be in good hands. Not only is her work amazing - our engagement photos and wedding photos won rave reviews from everyone - but she is just so darn nice! Being in front of the camera can be awkward and vulnerable but Jen made it so easy. As everyone else here has said, she's super friendly, warm, and accommodating. I originally had all these crazy ideas for our photoshoot and Jen managed to very diplomatically talk me down to something more manageable. It's takes real skill to deal with high-maintenance, emotional brides and Jen never made me feel like a bridezilla. She was also incredibly meticulous during the album editing process and her design skills there are amazing as well. I'll probably remember a dozen other wonderful things about Jen that I forgot to mention as soon as I hit post on this review, but suffice it to say that you should just hire her. Jen took our engagement photos, and she was awesome! I would definitely suggest her to anyone looking for a photographer. We wanted two separate locations, kind of far apart by L.A. standards, and she was not only up for it, but excited for both locations. She was open to any ideas we had, and she of course had her own great ideas. Another really important aspect, is the personality of the photographer, and Jen is great. She was funny, cheerful and outgoing, and she completely put us at ease while also being very professional and getting SO many great shots! She really managed to make both of us feel comfortable in front of the camera, and gave good direction when it was needed. After our session, she posted sneak peeks and kept us informed as to when the photos would be ready, and it didn't take long at all! I found Jen through my own yelp& online wedding searches. I was looking for someone to capture our elopement that I would trust and who's work I loved. The photos on her website and blog speak for themselves but it was Jen's passion for what she did that blew me away. We had the most incredible time with her on our wedding day! Jen photographed our daughter's wedding and was able to capture the absolute joy on the faces of everyone who attended. We were really lucky to find Jennifer as our wedding and engagement photographer. She has a great style to her photos and seemed truly unique after literally looking at dozens of other photographers. But what made us really comfortable choosing her was her personality and how easy she was to get along with. You could instantly tell she had a passion for photography, but also making you happy. She always made us feel comfortable so we could just be ourselves and get photos that turned out wonderful and natural. She knew a bunch of great places to go in the city for pictures that weren't overused and also took pictures at the typical Chicago places that you get a whole other perspective on. After seeing our gallery online and also receiving the full disc we couldn't be happier seeing some of the moments we missed and also the little details throughout the day that we will cherish forever. She didn't miss a thing. Jennifer was willing to basically try about anything the day of the wedding which included driving the bride in her car over to the venue for the "first look" photos because the bridesmaids were running late. Hopping in the front of a taxi with us in the back to get some photos and speed to the Planetarium for some last second photos. Cutting the line up to the Sears tower skydeck for some private ledge time as a bunch of tourists took photos at the same time. As well as, dealing with one of the mothers who just had to have 2 sets of photos of her entire side of the family during the reception which wasn't easy. She did everything with a smile, but when needed an business attitude to get in all the photos we wanted. We couldn't have asked for a better photographer combined with an awesome person. My husband and I got married this past weekend and we had Jennifer and her assistant Leo come and take our photos. Prior to our wedding Jennifer did our engagement session in the city as well. Every moment of our time together with her has been amazing. She has managed to capture every second that we experienced in the the absolute best way possible. Every picture she took was artistic, well thought out, perfectly lighted, and captured my husband and I in a way that perfectly identified how we are on a daily basis. I was referred to Jennifer from a co-worker who had her engagement photo's done and raved about her, and her photo's were amazing. I was having family pic's and wanted to be able to capture a glimpse of our everyday life and who we really are. To say she exceeded our expectations is a huge understatement! She did our friends wedding shortly after our family pic's, and the wedding pictures were amazing again. When another co-worker at work was getting married later that year she loved her work so much she flew her our to Vegas to photograph her wedding as well, which was again absolutely stunning. She is so gifted and talented even with 3 young kids who didn't always co-operate she manages to get tons of amazing pictures. She is consistently the best!
