Good place in Beaumont! I got the catfish. It was good but lacked flavor. But the texture and portion was on point. The cabbage was slightly random and okay. Last Friday night, I tried JWilson's in Beaumont for the first time with a group of friends. We all planned to go out for dinner but wanted to try something new. One of my friend recommended JWilson's because she enjoyed their food and atmosphere the last time she went. JWilson's is located across Paige Seafood right off Gladys Avenue and W Lucas Drive. The rain splattered on our windshield as we pulled into the parking lot. The exterior of the restaurant looked like an abandoned warehouse. One wouldn't think that this place was a restaurant in the first place, but the inside was a different story. Overlapping voices bombarded me as our group stepped inside of the restaurant because it was packed. The place was dimly lit giving off an intimate vibe. The restaurant has a simple rustic yet upscale theme with various of highly priced paintings hung all around. The prices of each painting was attached on the side. Presumably for customers who like to wine, dine, and buy. There was a bar in the middle of the restaurant where the older crowd hung out. Whereas, on both sides of the bar were dining areas offering guests the option of either a booth or a regular table. This would be a great place for a family dinner, or a hang out spot to catch up with friends over drinks. We waited for about 20-30 minutes for our table since it was a Friday night. However, the restaurant lacked a waiting area, so we stood the entire time. Once seated, our waitress handed us two menus: dinner and drinks. It took me a whole 20 seconds to find the item that I wanted. Hunger can do that to you. I ordered a medium well seared 10 oz flank steak and couldn't help but got a glass of Deakin Estate Moscato - Australia on the side. While waiting, our waitress was kind enough to keep our glasses of water filled and didn't bother us more than thrice throughout the whole night. The glass of moscato was so sweet and crisp keeping me occupied while I waited for my food. 15 minutes went by until I finally saw the waitress heading towards our table with a tray of food. In that moment, I was basically a kid in a candy story goggling the food on that tray hoping that she won't keep walking to another table. Thankfully, the food was ours as our waitress placed my plate in front of me. The steam coming off of my food was enough to make me salivate. My food was served on a cast iron plate platter. The steak was cooked exactly how I liked it, medium well. The seasoning of salt, pepper, garlic, and parsley combined giving the steak just the right amount flavor without having any steak sauce on the side. Underneath the steak was sautéed jalapeño and white sliced onions enhancing the flavors of the steak even more. The steak was tender enough for my knife to run through it effortlessly with each slice. Each pieces melted in my mouth coating my tongue with its flavor bringing a smile to my face after every bite. The steak came with potato wedges seasoned with salt and pepper. However, they could do better with a little less salt on them. I didn't touch my ketchup that much since the potato wedges were already over-seasoned. Also, there was refreshing coleslaw with a hint of citrus on the side cleansing my palette in between each bite of steak or potato wedge. Overall, I enjoyed my experience with JWilson's and would definitely return in the future. If you're looking to try out a new restaurant in Beaumont where you can unwind after a busy day with great food, drinks, and company then JWilson's might be the perfect place to go. read more

I've been eyeing this place since it opened. Perfect location, situated in the West End of Beaumont right at the corner of Gladys & Lucas. After driving around trying to figure out what to eat for breakfast/brunch/lunch one Sunday morning, we figured we'd come here. A few friends of ours had recommended this place previously, but we never had the chance to go. I love their brunch menu, they have a good amount of options. I ordered the biscuits n gravy - pretty good, very filling. I chose the hash brown casserole as my side, and it did not disappoint. Poured some ketchup on top and it was yummy. My boyfriend ordered the French toast and did not enjoy it. If you look at the photo, you can see the whites of the bread -he ate the whole thing because he was hungry, but stopped at the bread crust. Overall, it was a decent experience. i've never been so disappointed with restaurant food in my life. I ordered the shrimp and grits. Their menu clearly states it's gumbo style, but it is not. You could take a packet of instant grits and warm them up in the microwave and throw a scrambled egg on top of it and throw five shrimp on top of it and that's exactly what they served me. There were no onions, no bell peppers no sausage nothing like the real shrimp and grits is supposed to Taste like. , Tthey're charging $18 for this dish that I wouldn't even eat. I was too mad to even eat the shrimp. My coworker ate them they've seen the last of my business. read more

I came to eat on fried chicken night and it was not a mistake. It was more than finger licking, it was heavenly. The mash potatoes were hearty and heavy with the deep South love cooked right into it. I would Highly recommend this place! Oh my goodness, YUM! The atmosphere is good. The Tea is good. The food..... Excellent! The husband got the meatloaf Poboy with Side of roasted potatoes. He said he would definitely get it again after he tries the rest of the menu. LOL we shared the Creamed Spinach and almost had to fight over it. I got the Crab Cakes Benedict with a side of Brussel Sprouts. OH My Goodness it was good! I failed to take a picture of desert but it was the deep dish chocolate chip cookie and it was also very good, but we were so full that we sadly had to leave half of it on the table. If I could only get one item I Would highly recommend the creamed Spinach! Our eyes were bigger than our bellies and we had to bring the left overs home. My husband and I frequent J Wilson's for our weekly date nights. We love the chill environment, the friendly and professional staff, but most of all... the FOOD! Much of their food is locally sourced, farm to table, and always made fresh. That makes a huge difference in the flavor. They have a real chef, so they can accommodate special orders off the menu as well. They have a great craft beer selection and the mixologists are unrivaled in this area. This Saturday my friend and I also checked out their brunch for the first time and the menu did not disappoint! This place is very classy & the menu is definitely interesting in a good way. However, the few times we've been there, the food was lacking or tasted rushed? We'll keep going a few more times bc I really think they're doing some interesting things here. I'm really hoping we've just had some bad luck. I'm ready to be proven wrong. Two Words.... MAN CANDY. This stuff is THE BOMB, guys. It's so good that we ordered a second round! Drinks are costly and small. I had a Cuban Rueben, which was good, but nothing to "write home" about, same for the stuffed chicken my Fiance had. I would go back to try other things on the menu, but what makes me really want to go back to even to that and give it a second try is the Man Candy appetizer. It came on squash and zucchini, which I hate, but I'm always willing to try something new. I ate the whole thing! Visited this restaurant while visiting family in Beaumont! We were the first patrons for the brunch service on a Saturday morning and seated promptly. Other than having a super wobbly table (which our waitress helped to correct) the ambience is pretty upscale but relaxed. After struggling over what to order from the brunch menu, our orders were taken correctly and the food was all quite delicious! Our table had the Man Candy to start and the following entrees: Grown Man Grilled Cheese (bacon added), Brunch Bird Breakfast, Enchilada Stack, and kids quesadilla. Everything was so delicious and seasoned well! Fair warning the kids quesadilla is huge and can easily be split between two small children. The Man Candy was the surprisingly delicious treat for me; I'm never huge on salty sweet or spicy sweet combos but it had such a good flavor profile - just wish they put more on the plate! If we are ever in the area again I would love to try their dinner menu too! read more

This place came highly recommended, so I decided to give it a try while I was in Beaumont for work. I ordered the Cod Sandwich, which came out with a piece of lettuce and a tomato. There was no sauce, which was strange to me... I expected tarter sauce at least. The cod had a nice crisp, but was essentially flavorless. The fish pieces were rather big though. The bun was painstakingly dry to the point I finally took it off and just ate the fish. The sandwich came with a side of potatoes that were over seasoned and just alright. The service was a bit strange.. the server seemed unsure of herself and would do very quick check-in's at the table and walk away quickly. It took some time to get the wine I ordered despite the place being rather empty (we went for an early dinner). Also, the restaurant was rather noisy, which again was pretty surprising for having many open tables. read more

We were celebrating my Fiance's birthday and wanted to try a different place to find. We decided on JWilson's in Beaumont Texas. We were greeted by a friendly staff and was seated quickly. The place wasn't pack but there was nice crowd. We had a window view right next to the bar. The bar was fully stocked with lots to choose from. Our server was Claire. She was very attentive and friendly and also gave us some favorites to choose from. For appetizer we got the dish called Man Candy which was Slow smoked Porkbelly tossed in habenero jelly. OMG . For our entree's my fiance got the 8 Fried Shrimp with potato wedges and I ordered the Sticky Chicken which consisted of three pieces of crispy bone in chicken tossed in Root beer bbq glaze with Potato Wedges and coleslaw. We order a Moscow Mule drink which was also very good and for desert we share the Pecan Apple Bread Pudding. Everything tasted delicious and portions are very generous. Amazing food with wonderful wait staff. Will be back should we ever get to Beaumont again

Walked in during a busy Thursday happy hour. This place was a real local's place. We were looking for a seat at the bar which was pretty full. There were three empty barstools, and as usual they weren't next to each other. I walked up to one and my husband followed. A lady around the corner at the bar got up, picked up a barstool and carried around to our side. She was a local and I believe her name was Janie. The bartenders were quick to acknowledge us, and bring us our drinks. I had my usual Titos and soda, and my husband decided to try another old fashion. The only critique he had for it was there are specific cherries for an old fashion and maraschinos are not it. They offered specials for each day and then their regular menu. We opted to try a Cobb salad half size, which we wouldn't have known we could do half size if the staff hadn't told us. The salad was filled with fresh greens, grilled chicken, pork, bacon, a deviled egg and topped with honey mustard vinaigrette. Very good. I tried their tomato bisque which contained roasted tomatoes, shrimp stock, and shrimp so unless you're a seafood lover, you would not care for it. I however, thought it was something wonderful. We also tried their white barbecue chicken flatbread with Sriracha and pickled onions and jalapeños. It was also very tasty. We enjoyed talking to the locals. The restaurant was clean and well run. I would definitely recommend I kind of wish we were going to be here longer so we could return however, we leave town on Sunday. And thanks Janie for helping us find a seat at the bar. read more
