My husband took pride in cutting my son's hair so I was surprised when he wanted to find a child stylist. This place was near us and it had good reviews so we decided to give it a try. We made an appointment and brought him in. Maybe it's because we hyped it up and prepared him ahead of time but he was excited. I booked an appointment with Selvina a day in advance for my 2 year old son. We got there and there were lots of toys to keep him busy while we waited for her to finish with the child before us. I told her I wanted my son to have a short summer cut. She knew exactly what to do and was finished in less than 10 minutes. Selvina gave him age appropriate cues to get him to look in the right spots so she could do the haircut. We will absolutely be coming back for his haircuts. read more

Unfortunately I need to update my review. This week I called to book a bang trim with Annie. I scheduled for Sunday since she only works two days a week. I was happy to schedule, and today when I arrived I was shocked at how things went. I will admit that we were about 5 minutes late, because with 3 kids getting out isn't always perfect! Since they cater exclusively to kids, I figured they build in a little grace. Apparently, I was wrong because Annie immediately went on about us being late and how she was doing someone else's cut. I would have waited, but she continued on how it would ruin her books and she had lunch after that cut. I told her sorry, that we requested her specifically, and she didn't seem to care whatsoever. I always thought repeat clients were a goal of hairdressers, but perhaps they are swimming in business and don't care. We were 5 minutes late. Her attitude was really unappreciated. So, someone else cut her bangs and did an AWFUL job. I literally had to stop her from going shorter because it was so terrible. I will never go there again. I came in for a haircut, not a guilt trip and an awful trim that can't be repaired until it grows out. Save yourself the hassle unless you are perfect and aren't fussed by people who make the already challenging job of getting a kid's haircut even harder. read more

I had the best experience getting my 2 year old son's haircut by Annie today. My son doesn't like getting his haircut and typically cries a lot when he does get it cut, but he did much better today with Annie than he's done in the past at another place I took him to. The environment at Jack and Jill is welcoming, bright, and fun, and the stylists are very friendly and welcoming too. Annie was great with my son and gave him the perfect summer haircut. Terrible. My daughter had her hair cut before her scheduled family photo session and her cut was so bad we had to cancel our photos. The right side of her bangs was a 1/2 inch shorter than the left side and the rest of her hair was completely completely jagged. It couldn't be worse. It will be a couple months before her hair grows out long enough to be fixed. I will never go here again and do not recommend for children under 6. read more

Disclaimer: This is a review based on a visit back in 2018. I came here to get my daughter's first haircut, and I'm super sad about how it went. When I made the appointment, I specified that. The person on the phone sounded excited about it! She even mentioned a special first hair cut package. When I came in, thought, things were much different. The person behind the desk was quite unwelcoming. Barely looked up when she asked for our name. She didn't mention anything about the first hair cut package or anything. She pointed in the general direction of where my kid should sit. The haircut was fine. During the cut though, it came up that this was her first haircut. The stylist responded, "This is her first cut?" I said, "Yea!" She half-smiled and said, "Oh." Like it was an interesting fun fact. We were pretty bummed when we walked out. Such an anticlimactic, bubble-busting experience. The place was clean, and they had toys. So, that's why I gave 2 stars. I won't ever come back, though. read more

I am extremely disappointed in the customer service by the owner of this business. We have come to this business a few times before and had a pleasant experience but today we were late 15 minutes and when we got there she did not acknowledge us and when I apologized for being late she said " we are book can't take you"! No flexibility whatsoever! I understand we were late on our end but she could have even offered us to wait and try to squeeze us in! My 2 year old cried because he wanted to go on the cars for his turn! Very rude! Knowing that the staff are mothers themselves they should've understood us! According to Yelp this is a walk in friendly place. It's not, I found out the hard way. I looked up a friendly place for my 3 year old and I thought this was the place. I walked in, I was asked if I had an appointment and I said no, I thought this was a walk in friendly place. Stylist says no you have to call to fit you in. I look around and she only has one customer on the chair who she seemed to be wrapping it up. It's 11am with no one inside and she would only take my son after 1:30. NO THANKS. Very disappointed. His haircut is okay, I can't really complain about it because you can't expect perfection on a squirmy 1 year old but there are a few stray hairs that I had to cut when we got home. I've taken my kids here multiple times now. They do a good job cutting hair quickly and decently. No small challenge with little ones. I wish they didn't show movies but I'm guessing for some kids it makes the job easier. We have visited jack and Jill about 3 times now and my children have enjoyed good hair cuts and have had fun at this trendy spot for kids. -Haircuts- I have a 3 year old girl and a 1 year old boy and each time the cuts were fine (can you really mess up a kid's cut?) They have little tvs at each station to keep them entertained while they are getting their cuts. -Services - Although we usually stick with cuts, other services they provide are manicures and pedicures for the little girls, and they also have fun birthday packages. We were there once when one of these parties were going on, and they had a karaoke machine and it seemed the kids were all having a blast in a back private room. Overall, sure its a little pricy, but the kids have fun there and we have been happy with the service so far. I would recommend this place to any parent with kids for a fun experience that is much less painful than a salon that isn't kids friendly. read more

I was walking my dog and noticed a new kids salon in Park Ridge. I assumed it was like a snippets or new chain, but I was pleasantly surprised when I walked inside to check it out. I was immediately greeted by one of the owners and she gave me a tour of the salon. The space was so bright and colorful, without being obnoxious. It was also energetic and spacious. The front of the salon has a wall of products and unique toys, ribbons and the like for sale, as well as a few infant / toddler hair stations made of automobiles. Each seat had a small flat screen television with kid friendly shows, nice touch! There was one shampoo bowl in the back and two additional seats for larger kids or tweens. As you walk further, you'll see a little mani / pedi salon in the back, a stage, and a big tv with a karaoke machine! Where was this when I was a kid! The perfect place to throw a party! A nice change to have a new concept with FRIENDLY staff, owned by moms and pops, not a big corporate chain. Ill definitely be back with the kiddies someday soon. It's a little pricey ($18 + tip) for the 10/15 min cut, but given how squirmy some kids must be, I understand. I can only give three stars at this time. Booked an appointment for a specific time. Showed up five minutes earlier than the said time and checked in at the desk. Watched three walk-ins get taken ahead of us and as I approach the desk to ask if they were running behind on appointments or just missed us, the girl then highlighted our name and said that will be with you next. So, yeah. Overall environment is ok. 5 stations with kids automobiles which is cute and TVs in most of them. Overall I will give this place one more try and will avoid a Wednesday, when they give 5 off a haircut. Didn't know about it and can only hope to get better service on a non deal day.
