Not only did they do a bad job on my sons hair (he's 2.5 and it was a simple trim), they used an electric razor (never done before anywhere else) and cut him in three separate spots on his neck and he cried. It was not a good experience. No one was outrightly rude, but it felt cold and technical. There were no niceties exchanged. The cosmetologist did not try to interact with our 3 year old at all except for "don't move, sit still, look down etc". She didn't even ask his name or converse at all to put him at ease. The quality of the cut wasn't good either but when I saw how cold and rushed she was with our son I told her it was "fine". We went for my son's first hair cut and I will not be going back here again. I asked them to just simply cut the long hair to remove the mullet. They started to use a razor instead of just scissors and were about to go around his whole head after I already explicitly said don't cut anything aside from the mullet. I wanted to like this place so much. The atmosphere is great. However, the haircut was mediocre at best, my son had long layered hair and I said please just trim it. She cut it too short and the bangs straight across instead of the sweep he had. It looks like a bowl cut. Also, for a place that deals with children primary our stylist just keep telling my almost three old to stop moving and had very little patience. I was really looking forward to taking my son there for his very first haircut. I had read so many wonderful reviews and though our hairstylist was sweet and patient with him while he cried, I was disappointed that we didn't get what we paid for. I booked online for their first haircut package which includes a souvenir card with your child's name, the date of the haircut, a lock of hair and a photo to take home. We were not given any of this!!!! I had to ask for my sons hair. Nothing else was even offered. The haircut itself was no more than 5-7 mins. Mind you my son had a lot of hair. I understand that it's a very busy salon and location but it was suppose to be a wonderful first experience, which I booked a month in advance. My daughter decided she was ready for a trim, after 4 years of fighting the idea of a haircut. I called this salon to book right away, as I didn't want my daughter to change her mind. They were able to fit me in that day, and the customer service on the phone was great. We easily found parking, and we were kindly greeted when we arrived. Ja'net was our stylist. She had the sweetest personality, and she made my daughter feel comfortable. She helped bring out the natural curl in my daughter's hair, and she helped advise us away from bangs. She then braided my daughter's hair and even did a little pop of temporary color. My daughter felt so beautiful and special, which was the main thing I wanted. Walking in, we were approached. We told employee we had no appointment, walk-in, and were instructed to only wait a minute. While we waited...and waited... I noticed two employees off to the side buying haircut supplies off a man who brought in bags of scissors etc. The while time we were there the two employees kept shopping for supplies. The place only had one boy getting his haircut. I counted 4 employees with no work. After a good while a second employee approached us telling us it would be a 40 minute wait. Keep in mind this whole time my baby (first haircut) could've been finished. The vibe I received from this business was very uncomfortable. My wife and I got the impression that they catered to a higher social class. Why? Right before leaving, a lady and her daughter walked in and clearly stated they had no appointment. They were walked right in and taken care off. They were clearly from a higher social class. I'm not one to judge on appearances, but it was very obvious that we were put in the back-burner. Awesome, Amazing, Cool, and Unforgettable are just a few words that I would use to describe our experience at Pigtails & Crewcuts. For the past 3 years, I have wanted to take my little one in for a professional haircut. Time, scheduling, "life" made me put this on the back burner...it seemed less stressful for me to just do it myself. On a recent visit to the Glen with Xtie and the boys, we stumbled upon Pigtails & Crewcuts. We had time to kill, so we pounced on the opportunity. I should also add that both of our boys made a beeline for the salon as soon as they spotted it. Pigtails & Crewcuts is sincerely a dream come true for parents and their kids. They have a helicopter, a fire truck and a hotrod car to sit in and movies to watch while they get their hair cut. They also have a huge playroom where kids can build, play with trains, dress up, etc. They also extend their services to parents...only we're much too big to sit in the fun chairs. I never anticipated that we would have such a great time in a kid's hair salon. My son adored Jenae. She was absolutely fantastic and sincerely loved working with children. She gave him the best faux hawk ever complete with cookie scented hair spray. After his haircut, he received a lollipop and the toy of his choice from their giant treasure box. Both the boys enjoyed the salon so much that they wanted to play a bit after their haircuts. The staff was super cool about it and even offered to watch them so that Xtie and I could shop! Amazing! We didn't take them up on it, but we did get to spend some time talking to the owner, who has to be one of the most nicest and down to earth guys that I have ever met. He has definitely won us over and I would recommend this shop to anyone who has kids! The salon also carries a great line of hair products, toys, gifts, and accessories. Was in the area with my kiddies and decided they needed a bang trim. We were walk in's on a Saturday afternoon and they had no problem fitting us in. The shop was bright, clean, and spacious. I liked that they had a huge separate play room for the kiddies and just lots of places to sit in general. My girls loved the different vehicles for the hair cut chairs. The bang trim is $5 if it is your first visit--but after that they are free---sweet! The staff were all pleasant and attentive. Great location since there is lots at the Glen. We have been to other kiddie themed haircut places and felt like this was definitely a step up from the other places we have been to. I had an appointment and had to wait 15 minutes for my son to get a seat. By the time they called us in he was past his attention span window. My son had a meltdown and we had to leave. Staff was unhelpful, lazy, and judgmental. When another kid came in they had the free hairdresser help him, they should've just done that when we arrived for our appointment on time. No thank you! If I want toys & junk, I'll go to a real toy store. I wasn't sure if they'd be busy St. Patrick's Day evening so I made an appointment. We walked in and everyone was so friendly! Bob the owner was at the front desk, greeted us with a warm welcoming hello along with the rest of his staff. Theresa was the stylist and she was great! We had our choice of fun kiddie cars to sit in and of course, chose the police car. She was friendly and patient, my son was more curious of everything around him than frightened. She worked quickly & did a super job! She even showed him the clippers & tickled his hand with it so he wouldn't be frightened. We went for the 1st haircut package that included pictures & locks of his hair. The other stylist was the photographer & she was wonderful at getting my son to look at her. Worth the money! I don't recall my daughter having the same stylist twice because I love venturing out to new kids' salons. If I had charged my cellphone quicker, I would hvae pictures to capture our moments. So visualize this: 1. Take advantage of the $2 off haircut. Haircut alone is $19.95, not including shampoo and blow dry which is another $10. Typical price range, slightly higher than most competitors; since you are paying for your child to watch tv and sit on a cool rocketship, airplane, truck, or whatever is the store theme. Since my daughter had DIY slime in her hair; I obliged for the extra $10 for wash and dry. Well worth it, smelled great and hair was soft and bouncy. 2. The waiting area has video games, toys, or coloring books before their name is called. 3. Couches in front of the hair cut seat so you can relax to observe the hair cut in process. 4. Daughter is distracted on tv screen to squirm around, allowing a somewhat perfect trim. If the cut is found uneven after we leave the place, we can go back free of charge to clean it up. 5. Stylist was quick and works well with my daughter. 6. After haircut, daughter has choice of animal crackers or lollipops and can get a prize off the treasure chest. read more

We have come here a couple of times and have always left feeling good about that decision. The other pigtails and Crewcuts places have never been as warm and friendly as this place. My son used to be so scared of getting his haircut. So scared that he would rather go to the doctor than get a haircut. To be honest though, our doc is amazing, so it's kind of not a fair comparison, but anyway... I can't remember the last lady's name, but our recent one was Kay and she is just the sweetest. Her voice is so calming, I almost started to meditate just listening to her talk to my son. At the end of the cut, my son had a huge smile on his face! Kay was so attentive and was so sweet to both of my boys and my other one didn't even get a haircut! Haha. Though at that time there is nothing they could do to help since my daughter's hair was too short already, Marina took great care of my daughter and my son afterwards. The hair cuts she did has always turned out to be a fashion. She is funny and kind. My kids and I love her. ************************************************************************* My heart broke when Carmen finished my daughter's hair cut! I told her to cut 4-5 inches off so it won't be knotty. She cut at least 10 inches. Seriously !!! My daughter's hair was super long and touching her waist, now it is only above the shoulders. Carmen even could not do the layers right and the edge of my girl's beautiful soft shiny hair is going UP. She said "it was because her hair is straight". Ok, Marina and Jamie both had cut her hair and neither of them had caused a problem like this. Do yourself a favor and Chose Marina or Jamie. They are excellent. read more

We've been going to P&T since my 8 y/o boy was 10 months old. He has rockin' sensory issues and the ladies who've cut his hair have been consistently patient, kind, and gentle with him. He spent the first 6 years screaming, crying, and wailing. They would patiently wait while he calmed down, gave him breaks, and were generally respectful of my little person. We used to visit the Randhurst location but since it closed we've moved to Glenview. Carmen at Glenview has been great! My son is terrified of the clippers and always patiently cuts his hair with scissors. Then, at the end of each visit, she talks to him about the clippers, shows him how they work, and doesn't press. We know that eventually, he'll decide they're ok. Or maybe not, we don't care either way. She always does a great job on his hair. read more

When we got there we were handed off to some random stylist, not who I made my appointment with. It was fine, as we were just getting a trim, but I was disappointed. I've been going to this location for close to 6 years, and my 6 year old daughter has always had a good haircut. She even had her first haircut here. Our last trip left much to be desired. We took advantage of the discounted haircut sent through the promotional email list. We had a stylist we had never had before. I told her I wanted a trim, (her hair was to the middle of her back,) and a few face framing layers to slightly blend in with the bangs my daughter was growing out. After the trim, she proceeded to make an awkward chop (layer?) under the bangs that were growing out. Nothing was "blending" like I asked. I told her again what I wanted, and she proceeded to use a thinning shears to thin out her existing bangs, (lets add to the growth time!) as well as the rest of the hair. She quickly whipped it into a side braid and and it seemed to look ok as we left. After I washed it that night, I saw that it wasn't a nice cut at all. Her hair hits her shoulder blades, but now has an awkward chop at jawline in front, then the rest of the hair is straight down her shoulders. No face framing layers, no blending, just now shortened bangs and a layer that hits her jaw, with about 3 inches of straight hair under. It looks like those bad 80s haircuts in front (thankfully only in the front.) Now we've just added onto the amount of time it will take for the bangs, as well as the rest of the hair to grow back. I'm done with Pigtails and Crewcuts. They are ok for babies and very young kids, but a 6 year old girl with long hair proved to be too much for one of their stylists. read more
