I was looking for a place to lunch while I was out and about and discovered Jack Astor's. It looked like your typical gastropub, so I thought I'd check it out. What a fun place! Easy to find inside a mall parking lot.... Close parking could be a challenge but it's well worth it. The front entryway is very inviting, with plants and A-frame signs and it's just really, really nice. I was taken to a booth and my server came up momentarily. Got me a water and a Coke, and I ordered the tacos. They normally come with three tacos, but I ordered an extra one. The tacos themselves were very tasty, and I have had authentic Birria tacos before and these were pretty darn close. The dipping sauce was a little thin, but it was just very very tasty. Bottom line? If I'm ever in this area again I am definitely going to come here for dinner. Everything looks and tastes wonderful service was definitely on par, and this would be a great place to watch a game and have a snack. read more

Had a great lunch with my daughter at the Kitchener Jack's. Our server, Nasheen, was phenomenal. She was very attentive, proactive and absolutely customer focused ! We had some questions about some of the entrees and she quite willingly went to the kitchen to get solid answers for us. All restaurants should have such responsive and pleasant staff members. She made our lunch extremely enjoyable along with excellent dishes which were presented very well, the right temperature and very tasty. She is an excellent ambassador for Jack's. read more

The food at Jack Astors in Fairview Mall, Kitchener, was great...except for all the flies! Ugh... We were indoors, enjoying our beers, but and when they brought out our burgers, they also brought out lots of fruit flies. Suddenly we had fruit flies swarming our beers and food. Kind of disgusting! I covered my beer with a menu card, and we kept flicking our hands to keep them off the food. The manager came over b/c he'd noticed and accused US of causing this invasion with strong perfume which neither of us was wearing! That felt rude! Food was decent quality - we had the cob salad, salmon, and the shrimp pad thai. The problem was that the service was fairly slow - and that seems to be pretty common across other Jack Astor's locations I've been to. It was also a bit on the difficult side to get our waiter's attention although he was a nice guy. Halfway through the waiting we realized that our booth was particularly chilly. We were sitting beside the window near the entrance. Their heating definitely had issues that day. Two of us started wearing our winter jackets for the rest of the meal and the waiter did not comment on it - I think the first time he saw, he thought that we were getting ready to leave. Atmosphere is well kept and they change their menu up every couple months (as in the layout and headings, I believe most of the dishes are kept the same) which makes it interesting for those who go often. read more

Always a fan of the food here! It doesn't disappoint usually. Tonight my boyfriend and I stopped for a quick dinner. He got the Angry Burger with a poutine upgrade, and the cost was ridiculous. A burger the size of a Bic Mac from McDonalds showed up with a small bowl of poutine, which isn't filling for him because he's a big guy who works out and requires a lot of food to feel full. The menu price is around $22 and then to upgrade fridays to a poutine was approximately $7. That's a $30 burger and fries combo that barely fed him. For us each to order an entree, and 3 draft beers total, our totally was $95. It just seems like wild pricing and deters me from stopping there after shopping for a breezy and affordable dinner. read more

Awesome steak! My son loved his chicken bites and fries too. Asiago pasta was great as long as it's still hot. It will need a little bit more sauce once it starts to cool down. I also had one of the drinks in a fishbowl! Overall, it was a great dining experience! read more

I waited for 2 whole hours outside for service, and while we came back, they told us to wait another 30 minutes. The customer service was not very good and overall didn't even get my food. We loved this place up until our last 2 visits. We are long time patrons. We use to go here before they relocated across the street at the new location in Fairview mall. Last visit before today, our plate was dirty gross. Food stuck/cooked on from previous order. Steaks were tough and not juicy. Over cooked when we asked for medium-rare. Today's visit was horrible. Made wrong drink, which I was able to send back and have proper drink sent ($17.97 drink). My husband's over sized beer came in a dirty class with someone old lip Mark's on it. Then the meal... my mashed potatoes were runny, my burger was pink and so was the lettuce ends (the spine of the romaine and rest of leaf was limp with dark creases). Our appetizer was really runny as well, order the lobster and crab dip...usually really enjoy the food, but from our last 2 experiences where both bills were over $140 each, we will not be going back. This last visit has me physically ill, I may have to go see a doctor, once I can move more then a few feet from washroom, to make sure I don't have food poisoning- seriously, not making it up :( Thumbs down. read more

Nice location, we went on an off night and service was fast and friendly. I got the giant 'Deluxe Bacon Cheeseburger' and it was great! Tons of cheddar shacked high, took some real work to eat this as tall as it was. We're definitily planning a return visit once we cycle through a few of the other local restaurants. read more

The service at this restaurant is awful, have been here a few times and always regret. Bartenders are not good either - their 'take' on a drink recipe needs alot of work. Servers are very disorganized and we had to ask for too many things they forgot: drink menus, appy side plates, condiments for burgers, and my pet peeve: clean utensils!! Every server who came out with plates did not know which table to serve! Is there not a table number with each plate? Other guests were complaining of the same dismal service. The only thing this restaurant's wait staff are good at? Bringing you the bill before you ask for it. On a positive note, our food order was correct as ordered and tasted pretty good but don't expect a tip for such sloppy service. read more

They were more than happy to accommodate if more people than expected showed up. My boyfriend and I just went here. The place was half empty but the waitress decided to seat us in the corner beside the bar. We waited 30 minutes and no one came to our table despite 4 different waitresses standing around talking and looking bored. We tried calling one of them over but the music was too loud for them to hear us, and then they all walked away and didn't come back. My boyfriend got up and tried to find a waitress but there was no one so we left. First time I've left a restaurant, whoever was working our section should keep better track of who is actually seated there. Going to East Side Marios instead. read more

Ordered the Jacks Cheese Garlic Pan Bread. It's was really good and was served hot and fresh. Next came the classic stacked poutine. It was cold, a lot of the cheese curds not melted. The gravy was kind of thick. Finally ordered the My cookie ate your brownie. It's was alright. A little over cooked compared to other Jack Astor's locations I've been too. The service was fair. A little too slow considering the restaurant was not busy at all but to be fair to the employees it seemed the management did not have an adequate amount of employees working. read more

Staff always courteous, come here at least one a month for dinner with my wife and family. My daughter loves the tacos, my favorite is the chicken bowties with the house hot sauce on the side. Always a great variety of beer on tap, has my current favorite polly want a pilsner. read more

This place has never let me down usually good food and good service. But today I went with my girlfriend she ordered a coke and it came very watered down and flat so we complained, and asked for a different drink. I ordered the pad thai and it comes with soy sauce and the soy sauce was filled with over 15+ flies so I called it back. I used to love it here when they first opened in the new location . I came here very regularly as I worked very close by . Went back a couple weeks ago after not going for a while . They hired all new staff that were well more interested in each other then the clients . And my food was partly cold .... it was a poutine .... Okay, so I came here 2 days ago and it wasn't that busy and I waited about 10 minutes for my cocktail... I don't like waiting long for a simple drink but I've came to this location a few times and the customer service is really good here. That's the only reason for the 4 stars... I tried the new BBQ Steak with Bacon bits on top and instead of the fries it comes with, I asked for mashed potatoes and Garlic butter and Veggies. The steak was made the way I like it (Medium) but the flavor wasn't there for me... It didn't WoW me... I Should should have stuck with my regular go to items that I often get, when I come to Jack Astors (the steak fajitas or the bourbon steak with shrimp or thr buffalo chicken fingers). These are hands down the best on the menu, in my honest opinion but the bbq sauce on the steak was really good, I thought it needed a bit more sauce (I should have asked for Extra Saucy Steak hehe).. ah well. My Gin Cocktail was really good and I got a pink cocktail.. It tastes like it has strawberries in it, I just can't remember the cocktail names but I'd go back for them. read more
