I had lunch today at State & Main in Cambridge. I ordered chicken tenders (buttermilk brined tenderloin; breaded & fried, w/ fries & plum sauce). It came with two sides so I got fries and jalapeno cheddar corn bread. The fries were good. The corn bread was good too ... I was expecting there to be some heat because of the jalapeno but it wasn't. I didn't find it cheesy either. There was brown sugar butter for it but the corn bread was too crumbly to use it (I had to eat it with a fork). The chicken tenders lived up to their name and were tender and the plum sauce was tasty for dipping. I'd get this again. Josh was my server. He was friendly and took good care of me. read more

Service was very slow. washrooms were terrible with pee all over the floor. Wait staff messed up our bill twice. Ended up being overcharged for a drink. Food was OK but nothing spectacular for the price I paid. The medium and medium/rare steaks looked the same. I was very disappointed for our evening out. I wouldn't recommend. read more

Had a change of plans and decided to go to State and Main on Hespeler Rd. Cambridge. To say the least, WOW experience. From the initial seating to the end fantastic service! The "Bang bang shrimp" app hit the spot. Then every meal at a table of 7 was a home run all around. Rave reviews. I was surprised to read past reviews of this place, from from the truth. Not sure why this place has a 4-star rating... maybe they were good when they first opened few years ago...unfortunately, I didn't have as stellar experience. Pros: variety of food on their menu; great location near Cambridge Centre (which is a dying mall... lots of parking! lol); and you know what to expect because it's a chain restaurant. Cons: food is average; and staff doesn't know about the Yelp waitlist feature, so don't use it because you may be waiting in line, anyway. I ordered The Empire State, which is a 10 oz New York Striploin, and man, I haven't had a steak cooked like this without much care and much love before... jokes aside, this supposed-to-be medium rare steak was extremely chewy and too bloody for my liking. I think the chef may have just cooked it rare to make it less dry and thus less chewy(?). I felt like I can make a better steak at home. I liked the mashed potato and the gravy, though. We went there for late light supper ,they had the app 2/1 , service was great thank you Melissa. Well the food it was another story...had the bruschetta with the butter chicken poutine. The poutine was lukewarm and some chunks of chicken was cooked but still cold ,also in my book a poutine should have cheese in it ( and no 3 curds does not cut it ), the bruschetta as you can see in one of my picture comes with the croutons with the cheese melted on it already and they have the chunks of tomatoes and peppers ,and parmesan petals bathing in a mini pool of olive oil and balsamic vinegar.....not that great..... great service but the food ......I'd pick anywhere else to go for a nice meal read more

Stopped here for late lunch after a motorcycle ride out to Cambridge. Pretty good menu, varied enough that there should be something for everyone. My boyfriend took me here a few weeks ago. It was a pretty great experience. The atmosphere is classy meets comfort. It wasnt busy at all when we arrived but was getting there when we left. My boyfriend ordered a rack of ribs with cornbread which he enjoyed and I ordered the Talapia fish tacos with a side salad. It was really delicious. Im a sucker for tacos and wraps and these tacos did not disappoint. Only complaint I have is that my salad was drenched in dressing. My lips literally hurt from all the vinegar. Our server was awesome. I feel terrible that I dont remember his name but he took care of us, gave us his personal opinions and he had a great sense of humor. I would go here again. read more

I called on Saturday to ask if I could make reservations for a birthday. First attempt nobody picked up and that's fine maybe they were busy. The second call I waited a long time for an answer and got through. I asked for reservations and the person said "they don't take any,come in but it's full ."Fair enough again that they don't do reservations on weekends as some restaurants do that.However,I asked "is there a long wait time for seats?"The response I got was the server bragging that they're packed Friday to Sunday all the time. I said "if it's packed,can you tell me if there's even a lineup for ppl waiting for seats?" The response I got was "I don't know what to tell you".I was not going to go in not knowing whether I was going to wait 5 mins or over an hour. It was horrible customer service. Why would I even come in if its full and you don't have the decency to tell me if there's a lineup or not.I can only imagine how the service would have been if I had gone in,looks like I dodged a bullet there. read more
